When the world ends, can a tough cowboy find true love?

The world suffers a plague that wipes out most of the population. For Benjamin, the last cowboy, it is a lonely existence. He spends his days on a farm and dreaming of someone to spend the rest of this miserable life with. That is until Cody arrives...

Cody has secrets, but the more time he spends with the lonely cowboy makes those lies harder to conceal. For this ‘in the closet’ virgin, life got a little more complicated, especially when that secret comes to the farm to kill them all.

I'm a masturbation expert (true story, I'm single) and I write unique stories. If you're looking for a plot that hasn't been done before check out my books. I currently write m/m but one day I'll venture into m/m/f territory. I'm bi-sexual. I love animals and I've always wanted to paint nude men. Feel free to friend me on Facebook or Goodreads.

**I get so many emails from people who are surprised I read hetero when I’m gay. Well, I’m actually bi and yes, I read many genres. Reading to me is an escape. I’m not at work, staring out the window wondering what the sun would feel like on my face. I’m reading about another world, up in space, vampire or shifters, even just another place on this planet. Hetero, gay, bi, whatever. All that matters to me is the effort that was put into a story and how the characters work to entertain me. **

Wow, excuse me while I fan myself. The Last Cowboy has got to be one of the hottest things I've ever read. Let's just say this one classifies itself as an erotic romance with an emphasis on erotic.

After a terrible virus wiped out most of the earths' population Benjamin has spent the last three years by himself. The long, monotonous days of running a farm have started to take their toll and he's just plain lonely :(

Cody's on the run from one of the gangs that plague the big cities. When he comes across a handsome and very naked cowboy lounging in the sun he believes he's found the answer to his woes. A beautiful man and protector wrapped in one nicely tanned package, what's not to love?

As their physical relationship grows Cody's past catches up to him. Can blossoming love overcome manipulation and mistruths?

At this point anyone that's familiar with my favorite types of books should know that if there is a post-apocalyptic setting, hot guys, and bit of sexual tension it's going to be an absolute winner ;) James Cox managed to incorporate all of my favorites in this novella. I'm thrilled to find that it's going to be a series and can't wait to read more!

Do yourself a favor, grab a glass of wine, settle down in your most comfortable spot and indulge yourself with The Last Cowboy

I’ve read the other reviews on this story and it just didn’t match with what I thought so I went back and read the story four more times and found that my opinion still hasn’t changed and I refuse to change it as I feel that I have some valid reasons for why this story is only a three star in my honest opinion that is. Without an author I don’t have a job but I also feel that I’m doing a disservice to the author and the fans when I don’t review truthfully. So without further ado here we go.

A virus hits and within three yrs it literally goes on a war path and has left humans an endangered species. Not only do the character’s of this novel have to worry about the virus but it seems that good rarely won out over evil and it’s now a world of only the toughest survive. It’s made the world a dismal and lonely place but how is anyone suppose to find a companion when one can’t afford to trust, yet maybe there is still a chance for Ben and Cody.

Let me start off by saying that I saw a lot of potential here so in a way I can understand why everyone is raving. We obviously have here a solid new author in the m/m romance genre. While the plot is anything but unique especially in this genre the author spiced it up by having unique situations and characters. I particularly like the characters though the author didn’t do a solid job with connection or chemistry the characters themselves were spunky, funny, and a bit on the conniving side which was a refreshing break from the norm.

Now that I’ve been nice lets get down to the meat of the problem shall we. First the book is only forty-two pages which is not unheard of with a new author but the downside to this is the everything has to work out and it didn’t. The details weren’t there and there were points were I really didn’t feel the story connected. Some good examples of this is that Cory is twenty-one making him eighteen when the virus hit but somehow he is a chief? Not a cook but a chief. Then you have this deadly virus going around destroying the human population and there is no explanation for how it came about but our characters never think of safety/protection not once. Plus I totally get that everything in the world is now haywire but if the bad guys can get some beer and chips then the good guy should be able to get some lube, lotion, or hey even olive oil for the virgin ass he is so intent of popping.

I liked the story but there were a lot of moments where I couldn’t really get lost into it because I was too busy going huh which took away from the pleasure. However with that said, there is a lot of potential here and I wouldn’t mark this author of the list just yet.

The premise of this book sounded great. Major plague, apocalyptic type atmosphere, the last cowboy, could be interesting.

It was definitely hot, like porn hot. This would be a western movie I could totally get behind. I wanted to see this as more of a love story though. I was told that Benjamin met the love of his life, his soul mate, etc. I just didn't see it as much as I wanted to.

Definitely fun and sexy and I'll be reading more of this series and getting into the relationship more.

this is one star only because I can't rate it any lower and still express an opinion.
I have no idea what edition of the book the other reviewers here have read. My version is so poorly edited that it's sometimes hard to understand what the author is trying to say. Although thinking about some of what he says, this is probably a good thing. Example: "His cock couldn't get any harder walking behind the tall young man. They were nearly the same height at six feet." "Benjamin took his eyes off the house, which was quickly approaching."
You gotta be kidding. This book definitely needs a content warning, something like "contains six feet tall walking genitals and fast moving real estate". Which leads me to the unbearable way the author writes about the cowboy's penis. It's like the thing is a character in its own right. Given the shallow and unconvincing heroes, I'd have to say that of all the figures in this book it probably has the best developed personality.
The plot is unbelievable, even for an end of the world story and the end is too abrupt and absurd. In short, this book is high up on my list of worst fiction ever.

Benjamin has been alone for three years, ever since a virus wiped out a lot of the world’s population. Other than the odd straggler he’s had no company and his wrist is mighty sore. But, one day while lying nude next to a pond, someone spies on him and Benjamin has found a new companion. Cody is running and in Benjamin he finds a protector. Although, that isn’t all he wants Benjamin for and when his past catches up to him, will Benjamin even want to keep him safe, when he finds out he lied?

This is a great erotic short story, that is quite heavy on the sex or more on the want of sex, as poor Benjamin has been alone for three long and lonely years. Cody comes across Benjamin by chance, but Benjamin is wary, at first, as strangers are hard to trust. Benjamin might have a hankering for the city boy, but he still has to be careful that it isn’t some type of trap. And when the truth comes out, Benjamin has a choice to make. Cody and Benjamin are quite well suited and they make for a good story.

Okay, so there is a lot of sexual tension at the beginning of the book and it is laced throughout the book as well, but it settles down a bit after a while. The storyline is really interesting; humankind starting over after a virus wipes out most of it and going back to basic’s where money is worthless and goods are traded. Benjamin, at first, seems to have sex on the brain, but when he meets Cody he is actually interested in something longer term than just getting off. Cody is just looking for someplace to hide out, but Benjamin is more than he bargained for, and Cody ends up wanting more than just a hiding place. When these two are together sparks do fly, but Benjamin is really quite gentle with Cody as they ease into a relationship.

So, I will recommend this to those who like futuristic, post-apocalyptic, cowboys and city slickers, hot sex, a new beginning and a happy ever after. P.S. keep an eye out for the epilogue where we meet the characters for the next three books.

Reviewed by Stacey Jo: I was intrigued by this one because I’m a fan of all of the zombie apocalypse movies and books and I love the cowboy M/M sub genre so, hey, cowboys and plagues and the end of the world? That sounded right up my alley. Well, this one is quite so hard hitting; at least not in the “apocalypse-end-of-the-world”department. In that regard, I was a bit disappointed, well, quite a bit disappointed. Now if you are wanting hot, erotic sex between a cowboy, Benjamin, and a virgin, Cody, then you will be very pleased. That’s not to say there isn’t any violence like what you would expect in a book of this nature, because there is.Cody isn’t exactly truthful as to why he shows up on Ben’s doorstep. There is a gang of bad guys after him and Ben ends of dealing with them so that they never bother Cody again if you catch my meaning. They fall in love and there is more sex and then they discover there is a colony being formed by a long-time friend of Ben’s and they set off to find the colony. They do of course, and his friend is there with his partner and there are several other gay couples.

Does this have a “yada yada yada” feel to it? Maybe so. I kept waiting for something more but never got it. I mean, most of the population has been wiped out three years previous. Loved ones were lost. Life is not easy by any means. But this story made everything feel glossy and shiny. Other than the squabble with the bad guys who were after Cody, it didn’t seem any different than if they just lived out in the country in present day. It kind of felt superficial. I just wanted more because I knew there could be more. Maybe once they are at the colony we’ll get to see how life is and not just the hot sex, which I’m not complaining about. The sex was fine. But if the point of the story is to have a cowboy and his boyfriend at the end of the world, then the world should appear to be… at the end. I’m getting ready to read the sequel though, so I remain open minded.

1.5? Little to no plot. Too much focus on sex. I get it's erotica, but...something more would have been nice. And while I appreciate the dynamics as far as who topped and bottomed weren't the usual , the scenes felt sort of empty to me (and to be honest, not really sexy . Mostly because there was little to no connection between the pair. From Ben's POV, it all seemed to be sexual. And Cody, well, I got a bit squicked out, because his innocent act at times reminded me of a young child (and not someone that was 21). The biting of the lip, blushing and Ben all "do you want to see it again?" (his dick) and Cody nodding, head tilted down (I kept thinking about some after-school Danger Stranger special or some shit). It all reminded me of a child and an adult asking if they wanted something or an adult reprimanding an embarrassed child, the actions in my mind were very similar. Hmmm. Also, while I get this is a dystopia-like time/setting, I thought Ben was a little too quick and okay with murdering, At the time, they weren't a threat to him or Cody. It was planned, not heat of the moment or self-defense. I don't know, I guess things change in the future like that, but I would have rather spent time given to that plot element, on Ben and Cody getting to know enough other and giving some semblance of a relationship.

Edit: Oh! And I forgot to mention, Ben for a man in his 30s, seems to be getting erections way too much and often. What ever happened to recovery time? It was nearly non-existent. I mean, I don't really know what the usual is for a man of that age, but it seemed way too much and often. He was always hard, it seems, even after ejaculating previously. I could have over looked this if Ben was a shifter or something, because they often are written with quick recovery times, but Ben was human. It just didn't ring true.

I really, really enjoyed this story. It wasn’t perfect as it could have used more details about this virus and a little more length but that was made up for by the characters personality. The plot was well done. It was fast paced but still had slow moments for the two hot guys to fall for each other. The romance was scorching hot and if you like some serious heat between sexy men, I think you’re going to love this.

The Last Cowboy was a quick, hard-hitting read that I will definitely recommend

I really liked this one, the world building was pretty decent and the characterisation was pretty darn good to. The sex was cute, hot and yummy - it was a really well written virgin sex in my opinion.

My only comments is that it was to short to really do the premise justice. This had the chance of becoming a 5 star book if the author took the time to develop a more indepth and emotional relationship and 'showed' us the events in the plot (plague, baddies, future) the ending was summed up great but would have been amazing if longer.

My first thought was "Wow...the end of the world could be awesome!" Then I felt a little guilty about that.
Seriously though,James Cox has written a very hot, sexy story about two men who come together (hehe...come together) on a small, out of the way farm and make some magic. I absolutely loved this short, scorching little love story. Definitely pick this one up.

Lame and pretty predicable. One dimensional characters. No real sense of end of the world suffering and danger other than silly subplot of boy friend on the run. Just an excuse to write a porn rag save your money

Sex was blah and as usual everyone falls deeply in love. Thank god all gay men who survive a planetary disaster are always beautiful and well endowed.
