A young American couple conducting an aerial survey of central Africa is shot down by hostile militia in a dense region of the Congo. With their attackers in pursuit, Brandon and Samantha are pushed deeper and deeper into the forest, to a place so terrifying that even the local Mbuti refuse to enter. The pair soon discovers another party is risking the dangers of the jungle, seeking a rare flower with vast medical potential. As the two groups combine forces against the genocidal militia, the Blood Forest holds them all with a secret that is more complex and sinister than any of them realize. This forest has a pulse. It beats in my chest. I can see it in the eyes of the beasts. Together, we move to this rhythm. It calls to us. It calls for blood.
What was an adventure, an opportunity to create an aerial survey of central Africa turned into a living nightmare for Brandon and Sam when their plane is shot from the sky and plunges into the dense jungle where even the vegetation seems to breathe with malevolence. As they run for their lives, they soon find they are not alone, but is the group pursuing a rare and exotic flower for its medicinal properties possible allies or will they become like a stone around their necks?
With a bloodthirsty militia on their tails, there is a far more terrifying evil awaiting them in the dense forest, a fearsome monster or monsters that strike fear into the hearts of even the natives. Could it be there is more to fear than nature? Has man managed to become the greatest monster of all?
Jonathan Taylor’s BLOOD FOREST thrusts us into this thriller with a vengeance and life-threatening action, but are the crocodiles merely the warm up act for what lay ahead? Is this forest haunted or is the danger very real, very alive and very unnatural? Will these adventurers survive the jungle or the soldiers that chase them? Is there any way out? Who will survive, how?
BLOOD FOREST is one of “those” reads, just scary enough to keep one just a little apprehensive to turn the next page, yet equally unwilling to miss a thing! Sweat in the steam of the jungle, feel the fear of being lost with no apparent way out, and remember, the forest is alive and it wants blood…is it possible to survive?
I loved this book! I don't usually go for the thriller/suspense type books, but this was a great story that kind of defies those categories! You're kept guessing about the "haunting" of the forest, which I loved. I like those kinds of books that keep you guessing about whether it's a true ghost story or more of a mad scientist kind of tale. I really loved the characters and the ending was very satisfying!
Funny story actually, I was recommended this book by someone saying that it was a zombie story and then realized one of the people in my Amazon family had already bought it. So here I thought I was super lucky and just never bothered looking to see what the book was actually about. I mean come on, free book, I'm not gonna turn it down.
It is most definitely not a zombie book, but I will say it is still a pretty good book. I don't normally go for suspense novels but I enjoyed it. I loved that there was a "different" cause for the strange occurrences in the forest, and I liked how it was dealt with.
Mercenaries, Scientists, and Pygmies—oh my! Blood Forest is an exciting adventure pushing you deeper into the heart of a cursed African jungle (Ituri/Congo), wherein you’re not certain what drives the sinister elements: legend or reality, paranormal or scientific. Action and unexpected plot twists prove captivating, will keep you guessing on both the political and personal fronts until the satisfying finish. Would make a great movie!
Blood Forest is suspense thriller, a touch of romance and sci fi, all wrapped up in a very well-written literary style. I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were numerous characters all interacting in the forest or jungle deep in the Congo. This is a long novel, hard to put down!
HO-HUM... Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2020 Verified Purchase I struggled with this one... Pygmies, talking monkeys, haunted forests and mind control sounds like it may be an interesting combination, but it didn't really hold my attention. I was tempted to just skip to the final two chapters, but resisted the temptation and plowed through every chapter. (I was hopeful, but should have followed my instinct...) Perhaps better character development would have helped? Anyway, BLOOD FOREST may work for someone else, but I can't seriously recommend this one..
Follow a couple as they go into the "outback" of Africa, get shot down, and then struggle to find some part of civilization to get away from the psychotic forest. It does not stop!

What did I think of it: OMG this was so good , it was better than I ever hoped for, once I started reading I just couldn't stop, it had every thing in it that I love about a story, and that's once it has you hooked it won't let go, it keeps you pulled in to the every end. it was also creepy in some parts and those parts had me setting on the edge of my set all the way though this story, this is a must read.
Good story line and interesting characters who are in the deep jungle of Africa. Good book for anyone who likes adventure, suspense and mystery. Who do you think is behind the Blood Forest with its magical ways? Little bit of an abrupt ending and I would have liked to know a little more of what happened with the mission and plants but that is how stories go. Also it set up for a sequel of what happens next and who was funding the big brother tactics.
This book opened up at a gallop and didn’t stop. The author did a great job of developing the characters into people I cared about, even managed to do that with a character who didn’t speak English. This story turned into my favorite character archetype: the weary and beaten down underdogs who selflessly band together to defeat a monumental enemy and protect innocents with risk to their own lives. Great story, and the epilogue was the final zinger on this rockin’ and rollin’ book.
I generally enjoyed it. The last chapters were a stretch. Brandon the poker pro getting out of the trailer predicament almost stopped me from continuing. And superman Raoul was too much to believe. Glad I read it to the end as epilogue explained Raoul. Still had to suspend reality multiple times to make it to the end.
Taylor hits it out of the park with Blood Forest. Once again, he combines science, suspense, and unique characters that find you rooting for them, bad guys or not. The mystery that is the Blood Forest is a very, very cool idea and keeps you guessing while on the edge of your seat the whole time.
Good book ... I'm always intrigued by "jungle" locations. Good story, lots of action. Had a little trouble keeping the characters straightened out, but still enjoyed it.
