Great story but the reader is left with a complete cliff hanger at the end. Nothing at all is tied up so one is required to read the next book for any answers.

When I first read "Gallagher's Pride" (the first novel in this series) I must admit that Gabriel was one of my favorite characters. So I was thrilled when I learned that the second novel in the series was going to be his story and I couldn't wait for it to come out. I tend to get nervous sometimes about being too excited for novels because, what if they don't live up to my expectations? What if they lose my interest and I don't really want to read the next installment? Well, I am happy to announce that this book did not fail me in those categories:)
Gabriel is such a likable guy--kind-hearted, gentleman, and easy on the eyes. I enjoyed getting to know his character better in this novel as well as visit with the rest of the Gallagher clan (Ethan, Brenna, Eliza, and Mabel) and also meet some new characters (Isabelle and Andrew). The story begins when Isabelle moves away from New Orleans with her younger brother after a family tragedy that left them with both of their parents deceased. She takes a teaching job in Montana where she is greeted with open arms by the community and one Gabriel Gallagher. He provides housing for her and helps her settles in, as he is instantly attracted to her. Isabelle keeps her guard up, not wanting to get to attached to anyone, but can't help feeling an attraction to him as well. When Isabelle is hit with a bombshell that threatens to tear her apart from the only family member she has left, Gabriel steps up to the plate and offers her his hand in marriage to keep her and her brother together. It was sweet watching these two grow from a marriage of convenience to a marriage of lasting love. And this book contains one of the most simple, sweetest, romantic lines I have ever read in a novel. Maybe it's just me but I absolutely LOVED the part where Isabelle and Gabriel are alone in his room and he wraps his arms around her from behind, cradling her to his chest and asks, "Isabelle, will you keep me?" I literally "Awed" out loud when I read that. It was just so sweet and it made me fall in love with Gabriel even more.
Now for those of you who have read "Gallagher's Pride" you know that Ms. McClintock left us with a bit of a cliff hanger with Brenna and her search for her brother. We learn more about that in "Gallagher's Hope" as well as deal with more trouble from the Gallagher's evil rancher neighbor (and Brenna's grandfather) Nathan Hunter. I swear, what he does in this novel makes me hate him even more than I did in the first book and I can't wait until the third book in this series comes out so I can find out if he gets what's coming to him.
All in all this was a really great read and I enjoyed it so much that I had a hard time putting it down--a.k.a. I read it in one day:) If you enjoy historical westerns with a little bit of romance, a little bit of mystery and suspense and a whole lot of twists and turns than you are sure to enjoy this book.

When Isabelle Rousseau is left with no choice but to fled New Orleans along with her little brother, she takes up the job of a school teacher in Montana. Born into an affluent family, Isabelle has always had money and never had to worry about it. Now not only she has to settle down in a new town with nothing but responsibility of a younger brother, Isabelle is hoping for a fresh new start. Gabriel Gallagher is a happy man who is happy with what life has dealt him. That is until Isabelle arrived in town. It is only then that he is fully aware of what he was missing. When a terrible truth from Isabelle’s past threatens to rip off everything she had been working for, Gabriel steps in to rescue her. But there be an happily ever after for them?

This is the second book in the Gallagher Series. The first is Gallagher's Pride; which dealt about Ethan Gallagher. I haven’t had the chance to read the first book in the series, but that did not hamper my experience with this book. There were some references to the first story and I am sure that there are a lot of details about the Gallagher family in the first book. However, this book can almost stand on its own. But I also have to say that the idea of weaving in three different stories (or sub-plots) in three different books, but all under the same plot is great.

The characters of this installment (remember all of them are new to me) are brilliant. I love Isabelle for her strength to move in and settle in a foreign place because that was only right thing she could do by her brother. She takes whatever is thrown at her and takes the practical solution. I love the dynamics between Ibby and Andy. I love Gabriel, because he is so caring, gentle and patient! A perfect Gentleman. (There you go – I am in love with another fictitious character!!) But what I loved the most was the rest of the Gallagher family. They were in no means the perfect family – they had their own quirky little things and faults – and that’s what made them so believable! I loved the whole bunch.

The author has pretty straightforward way of storytelling. She builds up her characters and lets them grow throughout in whatever small way. However, I couldn’t help but feel that there was something missing. That could be because I delved into the second part directly and anyway I am one of those people who is always looking for more in a book in some way or the other.

This is fairly fast read and I finished reading it in one sitting. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a Love Story.

A good story can have a little bit of romance, a little bit of adventure, and a little bit of mystery all rolled up into one. Ms. McClintock’s Gallagher’s Hope delivers all that and more.

A young woman finds herself alone in the world with just her little brother. Raised in a home with money, she now finds herself penniless. In order to start a new life, she takes a teaching job in Montana. There she finds a home, love, and more adventure than she had ever bargained for.

This story moves at a very steady pace. It could have gone faster without the narrative on the past and emotions but then the story would not have been so good. The reader will not find it hard to keep reading and finishing the book.

There is not just one story in this book. That is what I like about it. The author brings together several storylines and weaves them together in a masterful manner that leaves the end of book promising the reader even more.

Ms. McClintock’s writing is engaging and keeps the reader focused on the story. Her style is simplistic and entertaining.

I loved the way the author tactfully and expertly allows intimate scenes without having the need to describe them in detail. Just a few words tells the reader of a bedroom scene. The author focuses on the emotions and relationships being built.

This is a book I highly recommend for those that enjoy western romances without too much focus on the romantic side of things. This story comes with action and adventure.

WOW! Gallagher's Hope was SO much better than I was expecting! After reading Gallagher's Pride, the first book in the Gallagher's series, I knew I wanted to read Gabriel's story - as he is by far my favorite of the Gallagher siblings. However, I wasn't expecting to enjoy the story this much! I didn't want to put it down and was able to finish it very quickly! I can hardly wait to read the third book.

For people who are easily offended by cursing, I want to make sure that they know that this book does have a few curse words in it (D*** & H*** were used the most, but S*** & B****** were also used a couple times). I personally don't care for books that have too much swearing in them - I honestly prefer that there be none, but I can understand it being used if it is in context, not just thrown in every other sentence. This book only seemed to use it when it seemed natural in the story, which to me was okay - not the greatest but I can tolerate that.

Even though it's about the same family, I think that this book could be read and enjoyed without reading the first book. The author does a great job of giving the details from the first book that are pertinent to the story without giving too much of the first story away, so if you were to read that book at a later date I think you would still enjoy it (yes you would know the BIG details, but I still think it would be enjoyable).

If you don't mind some mild language and love historical novels, I would recommend that you read Gallagher's Hope.

***I received a complimentary copy of this book to review. I was asked to give my honest opinion of it - which I have done.***

This was a great book. I am not a fan of westerns, but I loved this book because there is so much more to it. This is the second book in the series, and we learn about how the brothers are doing and we learn about how the couple from book 1 is doing. We learn about old rivalries, and new loves. I loved the way the brothers went back and forth, the author made me feel like the story was about siblings I see messing around every day. I laughed at the banter and I cried at the sad times. I especially liked that Gabriel "manned" up and took care of his woman and her brother. I loved the ending when Brenna found something she was looking for. There is also a new book coming out soon as well. I hope that their enemy gets what he deserves in the next book.
I loved the chemistry between the couples and the book ended with answers for the main characters, even though there is somewhat of a cliffhanger.
I liked to read about how the characters took care of their land and how times were different then. I am giving this a 4/5. I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own.

I really liked this book even better then the first one. It was a page turner and full of events and surprises. The characters were very real. There wasn't alot of romance, but enough to keep it interesting. I only had a problem with the quick ending. Cliffhanger for sure, but there was to much left hanging to have to wait for book three. Too many questions left unanswered.
Can't wait for Gallagher's Challenge now.

This was the 2nd in a series - 3rd book hasn't been released yet. I enjoyed this very much - BUT I felt the end was so up in the air with 2 separate story lines ????? What is that about? Apparently this book was just recently released, and I am unable to find out anything about the next book coming (Gallagher's Choice). I really need to have some conclusion made on these story lines!!

Hope in Face of War

This story starts with Isabella’s trauma and drama in New Orlean’s and her hope that her dreams will come true happens a while after she married Gabriel Gallagher.

hunter is a sad a vindictive character in this book that has tried to destroy so many members of his own family it is just sad.

I thought hope was lost for the Gallagher’s when Mabel their surrogate mom and house keeper is killed by Hunters hired guns in a devastating fire. However Brenna keeps Ethan grounded and Isabella keeps Gabriel from letting the dark ugly heart of Hunter corrupt their men’s hearts with the darkness.

A strong families struggle to find love and face adversity.

Very strong characters and storyline.
This story shows the strength of family love and how it can overcome anything thrown at them.
The Gallagher brothers face an old foe and try to protect their families. Gabriel faces not only the old foe but some trouble his new wife faces.
I would definitely recommend this book to any reader of western genre. A page Turner from start to finish.

First read from thi Author

This book happened to be free from amazon when I received it. This is definately not a stand alone book, there is a small cliffhanger at the end. I was able to keep up with everything without reading book 1. Enjoyed the storyline, and characters , everything developed nicely.

Excellent Read

I can’t get enough of this Gallagher family. This book is as action packed as the first one and I can’t wait to read number three. The challenges they face, the strange way they meet their spouses & the trials they overcome for love and family and land. Highly recommend reading it.

I listened to the audiobook. It was a good story, I enjoyed it. I got it through the Libby app, and the only issue I had with it was that a couple of the chapters were out of order and/or repeated. Probably an hours worth was messed up. It was around chapter 18 through 20 or so. I just kept fast forwarding so I'm not sure. I do enjoy this series.

Gallagher's Hope (Book Two of the Gallagher Series)
by MK McClintock
Genre: historical romance
Soft cover, 240 pages
Published 2012 by Trappers Peak Publishing
Locations: New Orleans & Montana Territory
Timeframe: 1883

A FAMILY LEGACY BUILT ON A WILD LAND. A STRUGGLE FOR JUSTICE, LOVE AND SURVIVAL. (from the cover) The cover is perfect for this story, with the focus on the mountains and the land.

Isabelle Rousseau has tragically lost her parents. Her father chose to murder and then to commit suicide rather than to live being penniless. His act deprives Isabelle and Andrew of their parents and plunges them into scandal. The creditors are quick to seize the family home and its contents. Isabelle is determined to protect Andrew from the malicious gossip and social ostracization, so she packs up their few, remaining possessions and accepts a teaching position in Briarwood, Montana.

Isabelle scanned the changing landscape. The last three days offered views of dense trees and farmland but nothing to excite her about what lay ahead. Before they left, she spent hours reading accounts about massive mountains so high a person could never climb them and land so vast that people lived lifetimes on it and never saw everything.

She glanced down at her brother, who rested quietly in the seat next to hers, his head against her arm. 'Is this best for him?' she wondered. Isabelle brought her gaze back to the landscape and felt a small rush of pleasure at what she saw in the distance. 'How grand and tall those mountains must truly be if I can see them from so far away.' Her heart raced as excitement overpowered the fear, and for just a short time, she allowed herself the pleasure of imagining a good life.

Gabriel Gallagher has the all the confidence that a loving and supportive family can give. He forms an instant connection to Isabelle and to Andrew the first time that he sees them. While Gabriel won't take advantage of a small boy's need, it does help him to spend more time with Isabelle. Running a large cattle ranch, along with his brother Ethan and sister Eliza, doesn't allow much time for getting to know them, but Gabriel will make it happen.

"He's (Andrew) tuckered out tonight." She (Isabelle) nodded. "He hasn't expended this much energy in a long time." A few moments of silence passed as the first hint of stars twinkled above them. "Thank you for today, Mr. Gallagher. It meant a lot to Andrew." She paused for just a fraction of a moment. "And it meant a lot to me." Gabriel's eyes met hers, and he guided the horses on instinct alone. "You're welcome, Isabelle." His whisper-soft words caressed her skin, and she pulled her cape closer to her body. She wasn't accustomed to the cold temperatures of this northern land, but she loved the cold crispness of the air as it moved around her. She would remember this as the day that Andrew found happiness again and that was a debt she could never repay.

When trouble develops for Isabelle, Gabriel is fast to come up with a solution. Isabelle is wary, but she must accept Gabriel's help and to rely on his promise. When trouble develops for Gabriel, Isabelle and Andrew are drawn into it, much to Gabriel's anger. He is determined to protect them, but Isabelle has a hard time trusting that he will be able to do that.

There is just so much to like about this novel! The story is a satisfying length and was a fast read. I actually went back and read it again, just to stay with the Gallaghers a little longer.

The background information for the main characters is there at the time you want/need it. There are few secondary characters, so that you don't get lost trying to keep up with who is who. Nothing feels forced or rushed. I really appreciated the fact that the author does not have Gabriel jumping to the wrong conclusion about Andrew, a tired romance plot! The story is peopled with decent men and women, so watching Gabriel and Isabelle develop a relationship is natural and very enjoyable.

The one thing that I didn't like was a secondary character dying...I was hoping for her story! But, it did add to the drama of this book.

occasional profanity
"discreet" bedroom scenes-NOT a bodice ripper

Generally, the second book in the trilogy is a little weaker or just not appealing as the others. This novel is the exception to the "rule". I liked the first book, but absolutely loved this one! Go read it, but start with book 1- Gallagher's Pride! I am looking forward to seeing what the Gallaghers are up to next in Gallagher's Choice. Note that this is the second in the series, but it is a stand-alone book, with no major cliffhangers!

I was not monetarily compensated for this review in any way. I won a free copy of this book by being randomly selected. All opinions are 100% my own.

I do not normally read historical romance books that are set in America. I prefer reading the historical romance book’s set in England. However, after reading this book I might just change my mind at least for this author. MK has written a book that grabs the reader’s attention and refuses to let go.

Isabella is trying to overcome the death of her parents while trying to take care of her little brother Andrew. She has taken a teaching position in Montana. She is moving away from everything she has every known and every person. However the people that she once called friends will not see or speak with her any longer. However, as I always say when something like this happens in real life, “Their loss, and your gain.”

Gabriel is the middle child whose parents were cattle ranchers. Okay, I admit this is one part of history I would love to go back and experience. Can you imagine going on a cattle drive, thousands and thousands of miles on horseback, sleeping under the stars, cooking over an open flame, not having to worry about being anywhere but behind the cattle. Gabriel sounds like a man that would help anyone in need. In my mind, he is tall well over 6 foot, sandy blond hair, light gray eyes, nothing but muscle, with a heart of gold.

Gabriel meets Isabella and is intrigued by her and Andrew. He wonders what their story is and why they seem to be running from the past. Isabella is just trying to lead a normal life, to allow Andrew to grow up in to a wonderful person and give him an education.

This is the second book in the series. I have not had a chance to read the first book. However it is in the TBR pile. With that being said, click on over to Amazon and get this book. I am so glad I read this book. The author gives the readers just enough information to make you wonder about the first series. She makes it sound so interesting. Yes, a lot of the characters are carried over from the first book, but that is the best part about a series. Readers get to find out what happened to the pervious characters. The only drawback I found to this book was I cannot wait for the third book. I will have to change my TBR pile around to read the first book in the series.

Thanks for a great read MK. The bunnies and I enjoyed reading your work.

The bunnies and I give this book 4 carrots.

I can honestly say that I enjoyed Gallagher’s Hope just as much as I enjoyed Gallagher’s Pride. This book continues the story of Ethan, Gabriel, Eliza, and Brenna (who I loved) and introduces us to Isabel Rousseau and her brother, Andrew…only this time the story takes on the perspective of Gabriel and Isabelle.

Isabelle is brought into the Gallagher clan in much the same way as Brenna was – these men LOVE to collect women in trouble! In both occasions, I had to slightly suspend belief that these women would so quickly and easily go with these men when they were newly arrived in town, but I was willing to do so because I enjoy the author’s writing style and the nature of the story being told. Andrew adds a needed light-hearted children’s perspective when there are many heavier moments that the Gallagher’s et al experience in this tale.

While there is some light romance (no bodice ripper here!), the development of that romance occurs naturally within the confines of a story of a family in the west; at times it takes precedence, but at others it steps back and lets the action scenes take over. I think it is the perfect balance of romance, action, hardscrabble life in the west, and heartwarming family story.

My only small qualm is that there is one scene early on when Isabelle is brought to Hawks Peak that is basically a direct overlap from a scene toward the end of Gallagher’s Pride, except that it is seen from the perspective of Gabriel and Isabelle rather than Ethan and Brenna. And while this served well to tie the timeline and progression of the two stories together, the fact that I read these stories back to back made it feel extremely repetitive.

My thoughts on the narration of this book are fairly similar to those of Gallagher’s Pride - I don’t think that a more perfect narrator could have been found for this book. I just absolutely loved his narration! It felt so true to the characters and story being told. His voice is so smooth with just a touch of drawl that was perfect for the setting of the book. So, not only did the characters and story suck me in, but the narration was the icing on the cake. Loved, loved loved!!

Narration - Alan Philip Ormond - Really Good! So glad he's continued narrating this series, because I really enjoy listening to him.

I Loved Ethan, but I think I loved Gabriel even more. This is the type of series that I really like. There are new MC's for this story, but we still get to enjoy the characters from the previous book and they continue to play an active role in the story.

So Gabriel meets Isabelle Rousseau, who fled New Orleans with her little brother Andrew, and came to Montana, hired as the new school teacher in town. Born in affluence, she and Andrew have just lost both their parents and are now destitute and just want a fresh start.

Gabriel Gallagher sees this beauty and her brother in the local diner and steps up to help her get settled in town. Even offering her the little cottage near the school for a place to live (which happens to be owned by the Gallagher family)

I loved Andrew and his relationship with his sister "Ibby" as he calls Isabelle, and the way Gabriel interacts with him is just - ach - So Swoon worthy! Really sweet! But from the get go, Isabelle gets bad news delivered from her past and Gabriel steps up to help her and her brother.

Isabelle is strong and loving, Gabriel is gentle and kind and the series is just getting better! We still don't have all the loose ends tied up yet, but Eliza's story is next so before you read this, you may as well get Gallagher's Choice cued up, because you'll want to get started on it right away!

"Author's Note: I fell in love with the Gallagher family from their first words. The characters are flawed, likable, and yes, sometimes infuriating, but they're real and true to themselves. This is more than just a series - it's a western saga, so some questions won't be answered until the end. The series follows the Gallagher's romance, hope, and revenge over the course of several books - each one offering something new."

I felt it necessary to begin my review with words from the author herself because she so aptly describes the books better than I ever could. The Gallagher's are a saga, one you will love from the very first page of Book 1 through the last page of Book 3, and you will be left wanting so much more.

The Gallagher series takes you from Montana to Scotland and back, from one beautiful country to another. MK McClintock has the ability to weave the details into a story that leave the reader enjoying the friendship of the characters. The covers of the books draw you in, but the story and the people keep you there.

The books are well written, full of the beauty of the countryside as well as the people. The story-lines are intriguing, full of romance and intrigue, and will keep you guessing until the very last page. As the author said, the characters are flawed, likable, and sometimes infuriating and you will love each and every one of them.

I am giving the Gallagher series five stars. You will fast become a fan of MK McClintock.

This has been my favorite of the Gallagher books so far. I loved the characters of Gabriel and Isabelle, and felt a connection to their lives that pulled me deeper into their stories. This connection, however, would most likely have been lost had I not read the first book in the series, as this story is a direct sequel to the turmoil surrounding the feud surrounding the Gallaghers and Hunters. But that's part of the beauty of the series. They are all dependent
on each other for fulfillment, and leave you hanging, but ever so satisfied the more you read.

MK McClintock's books seem to only improve as they go along, unlike many series that wane in appeal as sequels are added. The plot introduced in Gallagher's Pride only thickens and the characters are more richly depicted. Readers will fall more deeply in love with this family as pages are turned. Although new characters are added in Isabelle and Andrew, this addition is not confusing, but only enriching and further revealing the of the people introduced in the previous book.

When this book ends, you will be anxious to have the third one on hand to satisfy your curiosity. MK McClintock did not disappoint at all in this sequel. If you were at all unsatisfied in the first book of the series, Gallagher's Hope will only restore your faith in McClintock's writing.

I was given this audio book free in exchange for an honest review. This is the second book in the Montana Gallagher Series by MK McClintock, and I definitely feel like I got more out of it for having read Gallagher's Pride first. It was a lovely continuation for the original story and the "war" going on between the Gallagher's and the man who own's the neighboring ranch. The tension intensifies in this book resulting in dangerous and sometimes deadly consequences for the Gallagher family.
In each book you also have a specific Gallagher's romance. This book dealt with Gabriel and Isabelle. Isabelle has come to Montana with her brother to take on the local teaching position after the death of their parents. Gabriel marries Isabelle in order to meet the requirements in her father's will that will keep an aunt from taking the boy. The question is whether or not they will make the marriage a real marriage.
I loved the story, but I also loved the narration by Alan Philip Ormond. Not only is his voice lovely to listen to, but his different inflections for the different characters are great. He also had perfect pacing of the words in telling the story. Loved it!

---I received this book in return for an honest review.

Book two is even better than book one! How can this be? This audiobook is full of entertainment. The relationship between Gabriel and Isabel, though happening fast was sincere and beautiful. I have to say the relationship between Andrew and Gabriel made my heart melt. Gabriel took this five year old into his life and made Andrew come out of his shell. Love the scenes between them. I also love that even though Ethan and Brenna's story was book one, their characters are still major players in book two. So many times you lose the fluency and consistency as a series continue. Lots of suspense and unanswered questions has me starting book three immediately. I am entrenched in this family and how Eliza and Ramsey will play out, where is Nathan Hunter, what will happen with Elizabeth and her money...so much to resolve, so much has happened.

Again, the narration was amazing! Perfect for this series.

Ms. McClintock has knocked another one out of the park. The Gallagher saga continues with Gabriel's story, and it couldn't have been better. The story continually builds after the first book, and the characters grew as I learned more about them during a harrowing situation. I love the strength of the family, when they join forces to fight a common goal. Gabriel has qualities - loyalty to family, a drive to do right, a protective streak - that make him the perfect hero. Because of his hero-like persona, it was no surprise he found himself married to Isabelle. It was as though Isabelle was a mail-order bride. The story had a lack of Eliza's presence, so I'm bursting at the seams to read her story next.

In this second installment of the Gallagher series, Isabelle has come to Montana with her young brother to take a position as a teacher. But a question of custody regarding her sibling has Gabriel Gallagher willing to enter a marriage of convenience to fulfill a requirement of guardianship. Through a slow courtship, they find a true and lasting love, and the book ends with several cliffhangers regarding the fate of characters from the first book. A sweet romance with sweeping Montana vistas as a backdrop!

Love the Gallagher's! I feel like a part of their ever expanding family. I can't wait for Nathan Hunter to get his just reward in the next book which I will start now. I will be sad for the saga to end. It has been an adventure.

This is the second in this series and it follows the family of Gallagher's and their struggles with a neighboring rancher. I did think it was too short, but looking forward to the next one.

Great story. Really interesting characters. The themes of revenge and pride are still there. The brothers romance is almost too easy. The romance is good and clean!

A wonderfully endearing book with tender moments as well as suspense and tragedy! Left with a cliff hanger, you have to go straight to book 3!
