The Heavenfield is the first book of the Heavenfield series.
A dark science-fiction thriller set within a British experimental research facility, the Heavenfield features clandestine Government agencies, supernatural forces and alternate realities.
When Dr. Grace Palmer and her team of research scientists discover a way into a mysterious world they name the 'Heavenfield', they trigger a devastating chain of events. Bizarre, unexplained murders and attacks on the project leave scientists trapped in the Heavenfield with no way to return. As their air supplies run low and their equipment begins to fail, their nightmares begin to play out before them...
As well as an author, I.G. Hulme is also an accomplished artist, illustrating hundreds of images to go with his books. The Heavenfield website contains THE DATAVAULT, an encyclopedia of information and images detailing the Heavenfield world.
To go with the new LUMINA series, the Planetarium is a digital art book of space scenes from the stories.

This book is great, it grabs you right from the beginning but I frequently found myself wondering what the hell is going on?! What are the physical parameters of this book? Who are Alex and Dragor? What is "standing point" technology?!
I listened to this book on Podiobooks at work so maybe I wasn't paying enough attention during the key moments of exposition but I will definitely listen to it again and continue on to the next book in hopes that these questions are answered later in the series.
The Heavenfield, by I. G. Hume is a science-fiction, book, ebook, podiocast and audio-drama series. The book/series has been granted various awards, the FX are awesome and the cast is brilliant!
First, the illustrations are envy-inducing! They're dark, eye-catching and tell so much of the story, you have to be curious! The scenes, I borrowed for the slideshow, are nothing compared to what your mind conjures up with the elaborate descriptions and audio. Sometimes, a scene is playing out and you can hear the sounds of the wind, a haunting howl or voices- luring you/your character into their certain demise. It is all so fascinating, I went
ahead and purchased the physical book! I had to have my own copy to enjoy and spice up my book collection. I do believe you will enjoy the series if you're in to SciFi. I'm about to dive into the second book next. So what's the story about, you ask?
Grace Palmer, a scientist, and her team have found another world. A world, either in another dimension or in-between dimensions. While in the field, a crew member dies and the others end up stranded, with no way to return. And they have no idea the land they crossed in to is a war ground between planetary residents and nightmarish creatures.

Honestly, since I got this as a podcast off of iTunes for free, I wasn't expecting high quality. However, the story was very gripping and it actually moved me. It managed to blend science-fiction and fantasy so that they melded seamlessly together. While I'm not sure I feel comfortable with the shelves I've listed this under, it's how they were referred to, so I'm going with it.
Listening to it as a podcast. An interesting premise, great realization of the world, but some of the principle characters are a bit flat. Thankfully the action and concepts behind the story are very engaging, so it's still enjoyable and I'd recommend it.
Eerie, frightening and fantastic, especially when experienced in audiobook format. The sound design and voice acting is excellent and really makes you feel like you are inside the story.
