Vosper’s Revenge

Author: Kristian Alva

In this final chapter of the dragon riders we begin with Elias and receiving his training from Tallin. Hoping to be able to communicate with his white dragon he begins to learn the many spells necessary to protect himself and others. But, danger is imminent and a dust cloud hovers over them as Vosper’s evilness lurks in the distance to make sure that he does not succeed. But, Sela and King Rali her son are trying to deal with the elves and dwarves to come up with treaties to enlist their aid against Vosper. But, what ensues and you hear will remind you of a schoolyard rant, fight and definite loud yelling matches as the clans will not give in, change their minds or even consider helping them without something in return. Each side suspicious of the other and no one willing to budge the orcs are becoming more powerful, danger is coming closer and nothing is getting done. When a Carnesir shows up with two other female dragons the plot gets more interesting as he goes head to head with Tallin. One dragon stone might save the day as one greedy elf named Bolrakei the head of the jewelcutters’ clan meets with Thorin and gives her demands. Will he be able to satisfy her greed with a dragon stone? Where he will get one and will Sela agree to the demands?

Sometimes hidden secrets are revealed and truths come out when you least expect them. Shock treatment is not what Elias needed when he learns about Chua being his father. His reaction is normal the end result will surprise you. As we visit Vosper who is aging fast and is ill. His minions are concerned about him indirectly caring about how what he requests of them will affect their lives and their respective family. Everyone but the Empire and the necromancers respects Qildor, the spellcaster. If Vosper decides to crossover and become one of the undead how will that affect everyone else? Will it change anything? Wanting to confront his father and meet him Elias leaves Parthos.

Dealing with the people in Ironport proves enlightening to Sela as she sees the conditions first hand and learns of the death, destruction and poverty inflicted on so many. Disease runs wild throughout the city and the end result would put her and Thorin in danger. Necromancers are dangerous and what happens next will definitely test Sela’s strength and hopefully get them out alive. But, what happens is tragic as more lives are lost at the hand of the necromancers and one strong character is gone. As Elias meets his father and learns more about his mother, her past and the reasons she aligned with Vosper. Greed and power are two very dangerous things and Ionela wanted both. She was clever, powerful, and defiant. But, there is still much more to come as Sela is in danger, seriously injured and she learns more about Vosper’s plans, what he has done and where he is now. Deciding to crossover he has taken the necromancer’s oath and killing elves, dwarves or anyone that stands in his way and does not pledge their obedience will die at his hand. But, things change as Elias comes to the aid of Sela and finds a way to cure some of what has happened to her. As Vosper’s men and people see him for the first time they realize what he has become and pledge their allegiance to his cause. More fighters, more soldiers and more deaths before all is said and done and the final battle is waged. But, a traitor is in their midst and what happens and who brings him might surprise the reader as the dramatic and explosive ending is near. How will they neutralize him and what about the dragon stone that belongs to him? What happens when the King Hergung learns the truth about Bolrakei and what she wants in order to cooperate? What will he do and will she get away with it? Will anyone believe Tallin or will they side with her?

The end is near and what happens will alert you to many issues that the author brings to light. Loyalty, deceit, hate, power, greed, traitors, and killing a necromancer that wants revenge and is more dangerous than you can imagine. The binding ceremony took place, the goodbyes to her father, the hope that Sela will survive and the fate of the dragon race at stake. Will Elias cure Hanko in order to allow the spirits to leave and reopen the portal? The end result you will find out for yourself. What will happen and the fate of many that you think are gone will come full circle to the present. Twists and turns at the end that will send chills down your spine and when the battle is finally over who will survive? The end might be near for some but definitely not for others as one war is over, more battles still need to be fought and enemies are still at large. Dwarves and elves cannot relate to each other, kingdoms torn apart and Parthos attacked more than four times that year. What is the fate of Parthos? What will happen if they do not attack Balbur Island and rid the world of the Balborite assassins? The answers will come in 2013 with the first installment of The Chronicles of Tallin. Great stories that teach many lessons in life to YA’S and middle school children. Forgiveness, understanding, teamwork, caring and kindness come through loud and clear as Elias and Rali teach kids that sometimes we need to forgive those that do wrong in order for something things to turn out right. Will Vosper get his revenge? Find out when you read it.

This is one series that everyone should read. With concealment spells, healing spellings, protection spells and dragons that you will definitely fall in love with and a characters are individual and unique once again author Kristian Alva penned another FIVE WHITE DRAGON STONE BOOK.

I am going to go all gushy on this book. I have already given Books 1 & 2 high ratings, but this book is even better. This is just one of those series that each book surpasses the previous one in writing skill, character depth, and plot intrigue.

First, the basics. Book 3 picks up where Book 2 left off. Vosper and his evil minions are poised to take the continent by storm as the forces of good (or at least the forces of the reasonable) are scattered and/or arguing with one another. Elias is still learning about his powers and his parentage. His bond with Nydiered (his dragon) grows each day. Without tossing out spoilers, there is death, there is intrigue, there is hope. This is one of those series that a young reader can grow with.

For many of the characters, we have had 2 previous books to get attached to them, or to learn to despise them. In Book 2 we had a traitor, and part of Book 3 shows us what our heroes have to do with that traitor – the tough choices they have to make (as they don’t inherently enjoy killing people and yet, how to trust this person ever again?). These interactions were some of the most moving, most intense in the book.

Then we have Elias and his father (Chua, who he learned about in Book 2). These were also touching moments, but more than that, they were sometimes downright hair raising. Elias’s dad has a wealth of knowledge, and not just from his time as a warrior, but also from his new hard won ability as a seer. He provides some background to Elias, and not just about Vosper but also about his mother, Ionela.

Tallin was probably my favorite character. Being taciturn by nature, he is a tough nut to crack. He is also a half-breed, not truly accepted by either race, and yet he has to deal with them all. We get to learn plenty more about him and just why he is a bit of a grump, and pretty distrustful of most folks.

I have one little quibble about a severely injured character. This character is then transported and it takes days. Yet no real treatment is given to this injured character during that time and this character survives the transport. So, I felt a few lines could have fixed this minor slip up in weaving reality into the fiction.

Now for Vosper. He does wreak havoc among our heroes. Also, his power continues to grow as he makes plans to go through with a final transformation that will leave him more powerful than he could ever be as a mere man. Of course our heroes hear of this plan and it both scares them and spurs them on to desperate heroic acts. It all comes to a head at the end and while I found one tiny element a little rushed (can’t say as it would be a spoiler to the ending of the trilogy), the ending was quite satisfying to me.

I did not want to say goodbye to these characters and this world. Luckily for me, there is a wholenother series in this same world with some of the same characters. You can expect me to be bringing you reviews on that series in 2015.

Narration: Adam Chase did a great job once again but I will say that I feel his narrating abilities have grown with this series. He had some powerful scenes to bring to life in this book and he did an amazing job. He also had some truly freaky, hair-raising voices to create with the numerous necromancers walking and and out of this book. I pictured him having to contort in order to make some of these characters come to life. His performance in this book puts him on my list of favorite narrators.

I was extremely excited when Defiant Press contacted me to review this series. This type of science fiction and fantasy usually isn't given enough attention in the Young Adult world. I have been itching to read a good saga with adventure and mythical creatures.
Overall I have given this series a solid four star rating and Kristian Alva definitely deserves it.
As an author she has a great, imaginative writing style. Her writing is simplistic yet engaging. Any middle grade or young adult lover of sci fi and fantasy will enjoy reading this series.

Book three, Vosper's Revenge, is an excellent ending to this saga and as expected, another page turner!
There is more action, mystery and magic. The evil Emperor Vosper and his forces are stronger and more wicked than ever and their opposition to the Riders and the land of Durn comes to an action packed conclusion.
I really enjoyed the strengthening bond between Elias and his dragon, Nydiered. Their story is sweet and warms the heart. The Dragon Riders are definitely my favorite characters in this series.
I do have to point out the very end of the book seemed a bit rushed. I would have enjoyed a more detailed account of the after effect of the war, as well as what happened to the characters.
However, the book was still a wonderful conclusion to the series and even gives leeway to Alva's upcoming series, Chronicles of Tallin! I look forward to reading more of her work in the future!

Vosper’s Revenge is another action-packed book by Kristian Alva. I have had the pleasure of reviewing all three books in this series and the page-turning drama continues through the very end of the series. There is continued drama, suspense, mystery, intrigue, and magic in this masterful conclusion. There are still dragons, battles, elves, dragon riders, and opposing forces also. The opposition is stronger in this book, but so are the dragon riders! Elias, the young new dragon rider, has grown physically and has improved his magic skills during the last year and surprises many around him with those changes. Although there is plenty of action, Ms. Alva masterfully weaves in tender moments that touch the reader’s heart, like when Elias curls up to sleep on his dragon’s tail since his dragon has grown too big to sleep on Elias’ shoulder as in the second book.

There is never a dull moment as this series wraps up things left unsolved in the other books and also quietly hints at something else to draw the reader into the upcoming series. I can honestly say this has been the most enjoyable, entertaining, and page-turning set of books I have read in a long time, even though it made me cry unexpectedly, and I look forward to future books by Ms. Alva!

Excellent! A little rushed at the end, but somewhat engaging. It pulled me right in from the beginning, and by the end I wanted to strangle a few people and I want the ability to heal too!

Definitely moving onto the next book straight away! Chronicles of Tallin!!!

The author doesn't seem to have improved her writing quality since the first book. The good ending relied on a surprise power of one of the characters, that hadn't been hinted at before; not a good plotting technique. There's no romance at all, which I consider almost a requirement for a good fantasy. I'm going to stop at three books in this series.

Vosper’s Revenge: by Kristian Alva

Vosper’s Revenge is book three in Kristin Alvas popular YA Fiction trilogy "Dragon Stones". Each book in this world full of magic, dragons, sorcery, and adventure have all been a treat to read. The series only got better as it progressed and this
book is no different.

Vosper’s Revenge has action, defiance, necromancy, betrayal, greed and the best of all dragons. Who doesn't like dragons? Especially in a war. Who do you think will come out in top? To add to the field of chaos in this entertaining tale, there are elves, dwarves and orcs, who of course don't get along.

Elias finally gets to learn about his dragon as well as to continue his learning about magic and spells. This book is great for young middle grade readers as well as high school. This book is also good for anyone who enjoys the world of fantasy, magic, action, adventure, and war. As the book progresses we come across a evil villain who wants to take over the world (a story as old as time but when spun right it doesn't seem over spun or old at all). With a good adventure comes a learning experience. Kristian Alva brings it into this reading that brings your imagination to its fullest. It teaches the reader about teamwork and that sometimes you have to be the bigger person in order to make things right for the better good.

This book has all the magic that Harry Potter can conjure up, but like him there's always others to help Elias make his destiny easier to face. I recommend anyone who dares to enter an adventure that'll suck you in to danger, and an evil king who will destroy anyone and anything that'll stand in his way.

This book starts off immediately following the second and I believe you must read this series in order to fully understand and appreciate it. There are so many clans and races and unusual names, you need to read from start to finish to get the most from it.

I appreciated watching Elias grow and learn about life. It is this growth and expanded understanding that play a role in saving his life.
I enjoyed the descriptions of Nydeired, such as a bottomless pit capable of eating 50 chickens a day plus three camels a week. Elias is surprised to learn his bumbling adolescent dragon is a risk taker and thrill seeker. I can see that drawing them both into additional troubles.
Pay attention for wise life lessons as you read.

This book is more deeply written in the fantasy genre than the previous two.
They built the world and set the scenes for the major explosive confrontation which is the goal of this first trilogy. However, the ending is NOT the end.
I was sad to lose some well liked characters along the way.
If you enjoy magic and dragons and humanoid species, if you can suspend disbelief, you can get lost in this trilogy and will want more.

I did receive the trilogy in exchange for an honest review.

was so excited when reading this book thinking "hey she got this one right" which was true right up to the ending....what a major disappointment of a ending, felt like it was just ended prematurely for some reason. Would be rated higher if not for that reason

****SPOILER ALERT****
This review contains what some might consider a spoiler

Some parts of this book were an improvement over the first two. There wasn't quite as much info dumping and the story had a marginally better flow. But I still couldn't get attached to any of the characters and the only one I even enjoyed spending time with as Tallin. Vosper is a flat villain with no clear motivation for his actions, and the good guys all kind of blend into each other. That being said, this is not an awful book. It's just not a really good one either.
In the middle of the book I was starting to enjoy myself a bit, but things went downhill toward the ending. I found myself wondering just how all these spaces provided enough open area to hold multiple dragons. Maybe that shouldn't have been a big thing, but it was enough to pull me out of the story repeatedly. I get why Parthos would be big enough for dragons, it's dragon rider central. But what about the Elder Willow, and Vosper's place? Made no sense. And then ****warning: this may be considered a spoiler**** after Elias was built up in the first two books as the only one who could defeat Vosper, he didn't even do anything against the Emperor. And what was with Hanko suddenly having these amazing powers not even hinted at before? It was just too much. I'm glad I finally finished the trilogy and have no intention of continuing on with the saga.

This is the 3rd and final book of the Dragon Stone Saga, and it ends in a way that I was not expecting, it was not the hero that has saved the day but the traitor that no one has given credit. In an overall, I have enjoyed this book, and the saga, very much and I have already see that there are other books in the series that I cannot wait to read.

Reading this a 2nd time VERY WELL WRITTEN

Elias and his white dragon, help in the war against Vosper. Vosper is versed in black magic. Necromancers help Vosper against the Dragons and the dragon riders. It's a desperate situation, the story continues. Read the trilogy for yourselves. I highly recommend it.

So this series has ended, the same characters will continue on in next trilogy. I wasn't expecting much from this given that last 2 in this trilogy have been a shoddy work but this 3rd part really set the lowest standard for the whole trilogy with the whole senseless direction taken by the characters in the story for most part. When a supposedly wise leader who is injured tries to take on enemies she can't win against just to avenge someone, risking her own life & that of her dependants, thats when you feel like the story has taken a moronic turn of events. Not to mention when the hero decides to attack the villain he can't match without any proper backup, you feel like WTF is going on! And most incredulous was the death of Vosper that had me saying WTF just happened!! And even after the epilogue, it still isn't clear what revenge did Vosper take (as per the novel's title), the poor bastard died in a freaky way!

I'm just glad this is over & I've a peace of mind that I've finished the series, however crappy it was! Never again will I read a Kristian Alva book, these 3 were more than enough!

I enjoyed this series but the ending on this felt rushed, as if putting the endings all together in a couple of neatly packaged paragraphs was a tying up of loose ends so that the author could get on to the next book/sub-series after the completion of this first trilogy in this world.
