Briar Thompson had it all. The right clothes, the right friends, the right car. Being popular was all that mattered. Her parents were rich and treated like royalty throughout the community. She thought her senior year of high school was going perfectly, until the night her drink was spiked at a party by one of her so called friends.
That was the night she met Chase McCree.
Chase wanted to go back to Montana. To the ranch and the wild, wide blue sky that went on forever. He wanted nothing to do with flashy cars or spoiled rich kids. But he found himself head over boots for the quirky cheerleader who turned her back on her social status. She befriended him when no one else would.
Shunned and hurt by the people who were once her friends, Briar flees with Chase to his family ranch in Montana. There she discovers another world, and apart of herself she never knew.
The cowboy wasn’t like anyone she’d ever met. The cheerleader wasn’t like anyone he’d ever met. Apart their lives didn’t seem to make sense, but together, they were chasing forever.
I'm J.C. Isabella, and I love to write. I've been writing for about ten years now. Mostly it was just for fun, for me. But my friends liked my work, so I decided to self publish. I hope you enjoy the rest of my site, and the books I have written.
The reason I chose to write romance, is because I love a happy ending. In YA there are so many lessons to be learned, so many firsts to be had. Why not write about first kisses, first crushes, or trying to explain to your father you were bitten by your boyfriend, who happens to be a werewolf?
One thing I will always promise in my books is a happy ending. I've always hated getting to the end of a really great novel, and feeling let down because it didn't end the way I thought it should. So about ten years ago, I decided to write a book. I remember it was about these kids who hijack a boat to find buried treasure in Mexico....
Needless to say, my writing has come a long way since my teen years, and I know I have room to improve, but I feel guilty having these books sitting in my computer, with no one to read them. So I'm putting them out for the world to see!
I try not to take myself too seriously. I'm not an editor, nor am I a total wiz when it comes to grammar or language. I try my darndest though, and I hope to give people an enjoyable read that is nice a break from reality.
I put a lot of work into what I do, and I appreciate people reading my work. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
4.5 stars! LOVED this book! Loved this couple! It's YA & not steamy at all, but surprisingly I didn't even notice it until I finished the book. I really enjoyed the story. I loved how solid they were in their love.
I wish that someone would have mentioned the HORRIBLE language this book had in it in their Amazon review.......If I had known, I NEVER would have bought it!! ( Even though it was only $.99 .) I am personally married to a cowboy and grew up on a farm and yet neither of us feel the need to use "crude" and "uneducated" language like the characters in this story. The lack of morals in today's society were clearly present throughout the book,(especially in the first half) but the book didn't contain any "scenes". If not for the offensive language I would have considered it clean. The storyline had possibilities....in fact i think it could have been really cute, but again, because of the language, I couldn't get myself to even remotely like the characters. It completely ruined the book for me personally. This book is aimed towards teen readers....but I would NOT recommend it to any teens I know unfortunately.
Wow. I really, really liked this book. I smiled the whole time I read it.
Briar is the daughter of two self-absorbed parents who really are only concerned with money and prestige. After a night gone wrong Briar is rescued by Montana cowboy Chase McCree. Chase and Briar become fast friends and begin doing everything, even shopping, together. While Chase is drawn to Briar, he misses his home in Montana and decides to head back there to stay after school lets out. To make a long story short, Briar goes with him and that’s when the fun stuff happens! Mud fights, barn dances, horse rides, lurking intruders, hay fires, and more. . . much, much more!
I must give the disclosure that I liked this book so much, because it actually runs a little parallel with my life. A city girl who fell in love with a country boy farmer and now lives her HEA on a farm with 3 kids, green tractors, 14,000 chickens, a bunch of cows, tobacco and soybean crops, and a whole lot of hard work and love.
If you are looking for a sweet YA read, this is definitely the book for you. Don’t expect steamy scenes, just sweet young love.
3 ½ Stars! Adorable book about a young cowboy, who is out of his element, and a cheerleader, who captures his attention when she falls at his feet in a drunken stupor.
What ensues between Chase and Briar is somewhat unbelievable, yet charming and sweet. Told from alternating points of view, the writing is geared more to the younger set, as is the story itself. Chase offers Briar an alternative to the high society life she is living and has never quite embraced. Ignored by her parents, she is intrigued by Chase’s offer to go home with him for the summer to spend time on his ranch. Her grandmother helps her and supports her decision to join him. She is thoroughly taken by the life on a ranch. As Chase and Briar spend time with one another, they find themselves falling in love.
This is the point where some of the “unbelievable” began and I did some adult “eye-rolling”, especially when Chase’s financial status is revealed. BUT if I was in my early teens, I would have been captivated by this fantasy and the rugged, handsome Chase. That’s not to say he didn’t charm this old lady too! Briar was more adult than teen in her thinking, and somehow I found her to be believable since she was an only child and seemed to have raised herself.
The endearing epilouge completed the book nicely!
This is a clean romance, well-written and for .99 was worth the money...and then some. A delightful, swoon-worthy read for girls of all ages!
(I really liked this story line more once they went to Montana and lived life on the ranch.)
Briar is a 17 yr old rich girl who attends the best private school in town. She is a cheerleader and has a boyfriend named Alex. She's part of the in crowd and has the most AWESOME grandma around. Her parents don't pay much attention to her and more or less see her as a business deal at one point. Her dad is all about what others can do for him and how nothing can get in the way to tarnish his name or reputation.
Chase is almost 18 and basically is already living a man's life and helping to run the ranch that has been in his family for generations. Once he turns 18 the ranch is legally his. He comes to live with his mom for a while in Florida and she sends him to the same school as Briar. Being in Florida is driving him stir crazy and all he can think about is returning to his life on the ranch in Montana ...even after he meets Briar.
Briar and Chase meet under not so favorable circumstances. They become friends, even when Briar's friends turn against her. Chase never was accepted at the school to begin with...so these two become each others friends. He invites Briar to spend the summer with him in Montana before their senior year of high school. Once they hit the ranch the book takes on a different feel in the story and this is my favorite part of the book all the way to the end.
FAVORITE PARTS: 1. NOTHING gets between Briar and Chase 2. Briar's love for animals 3. Briar's love for the McCree family and the ranch 4. Briar's not afraid of letting Chase know what she wants 5. When Chase calls her Briar baby 6. The easiness of their relationship and how they work well together as a couple and on the ranch 7. Briar knows how to pack a mean punch or two
This was such a great read! A light and fun story with great characters! From start to finish, the moment I met Chase and Briar, I was invested in their story. From the first meeting, when Chase found a drunken and heartbroken Briar in the park, I knew this was gonna be a good story. I mean, I wasn't always a fan of cowboys, but I was married to a country boy and boy are they different than city living people. I loved the ranch and Chase's family. The way the author described his home in Montana, I could see the scenery and the way the house was built and everything country living entailed. It definitely brought me back to life on a farm for 5 years, which took some getting used to. But it was an experience. Briar was quick to adjust and I couldn't at all blame her; from the way her life was before he popped in, or shall I say, swooped in on a fucking horse. Hello? That's awesome. I love riding horses and that was one of my favorite parts. Really, the whole story was just so wonderful, I literally couldn't put it down. I just loved Chase and Briar and wanted nothing but happiness for them. And oh my God, don't get me started on Grandma and Pops. They were awesome!! I laughed so much because of their quirky humor. And Mille was also an awesome character. And Jerry! I loved all of Chase's family. So different and laid back and non-judgmental, compared to Briar's rich, snobby, asshole, parents and friends. But she really fit in so well with the McCree's. So glad I read this gem. And you should too. We all need a light and fluffy read from time to time and this was the perfect feel good book!! Still got a smile on my face.
"I'd follow you to the end of the earth just to kiss you." I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him with everything in me. "Good thing for you I'm not going anywhere."
Chasing McCree is a story about a city girl and a country boy or more like a princess and a cowboy. At first glance Chase McCree and Briar Thompson seem like the total opposite of one another. Chase is hard working and mature beyond his years. While Briar lives a sheltered rich life and moves with the popular crowd at school. One night, bored out of his mind, and missing his tranquil life in Montana, Chase decideds to give his horse, Ash, a little workout to a city park. There he stumbles into a girl he recognized from school but being the new kid doesn't really know her well. Briar Thompson is an amusing drunken mess but also emotionally distraught but Chase, being the gentlemen that he is, takes pity on her and helps her out, which starts an unexpected friendship. At school, Briar is pushed aside by her so-called-friends and turns to Chase for companionship. They have an easy instant connection. Briar begins to see her self differently when she's around Chase. Someone who can be comfortable in her own skin. So when Chase tells her that he's leaving Florida for good and moving back to Montana, neither of them want to lose their new found friendship. So when Chase invites Briar to Montana for the summer, to his surprise she agrees. Once they get to the ranch it's a whole different world and Chase and Briar start to realize that they have more in common then they thought, changing their lives for the better.
Aww, this was such a sweet sweet story! There really is no other way to say it. Once in awhile a book will come along that may not have a huge plot line or in-depth meaning or even excitement and suspense, but it still makes you fall head over boots in love. Chasing McCree is that book for me. I absolutely adore the way J.C. Isabella sets up the story. How different we see city life compared to country living. While the city does provide more opportunities and endless entertainment, there is just something really calming and peaceful about being on a ranch. That was my favorite part of the book. Being on the ranch and taking it all in. From the animals to haying and riding horses and kicking back swinging on a porch swing. But it's not all fun and good times. I never realized how much energy goes in running a successful ranch or the possibilities of real danger. Still, I could totally see why Briar and Chase love it so much. It really does feel like a different world and it made me feel relaxed and happy.
There is nothing I enjoy more then genuinely caring about the characters I read about. There is only one other cowboy that I've read before and that would be Tucker from the Unearthly series, but after meeting Chase, I gotta tell ya, these country boys are starting to look really good. Chase is the kind of guy that I'd be proud to hang on my arm. Thoughtful, sweet, well mannered and quite the gentleman. He's a boy with a mans life. He's honorable, responsible, respectable and fair. Briar is really the one who surprised me the most. She's not at all who I thought she was and I loved seeing her finally be happy and content with her life. She's got a lot of sass and this amazing scrappy side, something I'm sure she inherited from her grandma (whom I adored). I love the way she's always right there to defend Chase to anyone who dares utters a negative word. Very cool. I also commend her for being brave enough to take a risk, following her dreams with her heart leading the way. Together these two bring out the very best in each other. I loved those playful moments. They made such a cute pair. The romance is very clean. A kiss stolen here and there and a little pantry incident, but it was enough to still make me smile. I also really loved Chase's aunt and uncle and his friends. Everyone played their role well, making the experience that much grander.
Bottom line, I really just fell in love with this one. It's a simple story, yes and it's even a bit predictable, but I couldn't care less. It's a beautiful and tender love story about two people who find a connection and don't want to let it go. It's a story about finding that spark and passion that makes life worth living and doing it cause you love it and not cause your obligated. My only complaint was that I wish it was a little longer. I was having so much fun reading about Briar and Chase and ranch living that I wasn't ready to let them go. J.C Isabella has a new fan, and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books!
Charming, fun and adorable!! Definitely recommended!
This review and more can be seen at WinterHaven Books:
This was a super cute read. I really liked both characters (why cant authors of other romance authors make their heroines like this?) Briar was an awesome heroine. She had backbone and she didnt take crap off of anybody but did she come off as a bitch at any time? No.. She could take care of her self but at the same time didnt pitch a hissy fit when Chase stepped in.. I could not think of these two as teenagers throughout the book and really the teenage aspect seemed like just a plot device.. They were both so mature for their age and were older teens.. It took me awhile to realize they were only juniors in HS in the first part of the book. I didnt like that though, Im one of those "love and baby carriage" people but I still liked this book. There were quite a lot of typos in the story but for 0.99 I still think the story was worth the price.. I loved the epilogue but would have liked it to be a little in Briar's POV too..
That was another thing I liked about the book- the POV switching.. I liked gettting into both of their heads :)
There was a lot of cussing going on by just about everyone.. And not just a few damns or shits there is a few eff words thrown in there and I will agree with the other person that a lot of things in here were questionable.. But at the same time I didnt think about it very much while I was reading.. now that I think about it her grandma was a bit over the top but I thought of her as cute..
While the plot occasionally pushed the reality envelope, the story was heartwarming and the characters endearing in an almost old-fashioned way that was really charming. :)
Wow! Just wow. Not only was I swept away from page one, but I never wanted to put it down either. Chasing McCree was funny, sweet, and *swoon* worthy. JC Isabella made me wish I had a cowboy to love.
It's late when Chase comes across a girl, a cheerleader, bleeding and complaining of a headache. She is barely coherent and he is set on making sure she gets home okay. Once she is convinced he is only worried about her safety does she accepts his offer to take her home only to realize she doesn't have her keys. Now what will he do with her?
I loved the two main characters, Chase and Briar. Chase is a cowboy with only pure intentions. He is sweet, funny and down to earth. He has money, but doesn't like to show or talk about it and he doesn't flaunt what he has. Briar is the preppy little cheerleader who has had everything handed to her and goes along with what her friends want. Her parents don't know her, let alone know where she is and who she's with until she comes home and they ask questions.
There was nothing I didn't like about this book. It was well written, entertaining, funny, and left me wanting more. I loved that the point of view switches between Chase and Briar. There is so much chemistry between them and seeing how each of them felt about the other made me *swoon* even more. Most everything was realistic. I've met a few cowboys and Chase fit the description. There were some spur of the moment choices that weren't completely believable, but those choices were made by two teenagers in love. If I were to walk across a cowboy like Chase, I would jump in his arms an never look back, so I can't take those choices and hold them against them.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable read. I stayed up all night and loved every page. I would highly recommend this book if you want a lighthearted, quick, romantic read.
FTC Disclosure: I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was not monetarily compensated for my opinion.
This is the first book I've read by J.C. Isabella I really enjoyed her writing, clear and concise and easy to read. The plot and character descriptions were written extremely well and as I said I really enjoyed her writing.
We are introduced to Briar Thompson, who comes from a well off family, has everything she wants and needs. One night at a party her drink is spiked and she wonders off...well chased off. She ends up bumping into a young man named Chase. Chase is a real cowboy, growing up in Montana he has recently just moved to the city to live with his mom.
Briar and Chase become friends and Briar realizes she is not that happy..her parents are not interested in her life, her friends are a bit superficial. The only one who keeps her sane is her grandmother. Who you will love while reading this book.
Briar decides to take a risk and heads to Montana with Chase for the summer. This is a light fun romance novel for young adults probably more geared to high school youths. But saying that it is a cute romantic novel.
I have rated Chasing McCree 4 stars and I enjoyed J.C. Isabella writing and the story was cute.
Is this really a young adult novel? Cuz it didn't feel like one... It was so much more.
Chase is a teenage cowboy. A very very wealthy owner of a ranch at 17 years old. Even though he's very rich, he didn't let it get to his head. All he ever wanted was to run the ranch in peace. He was currently with his mom in Florida when he met the cheerleader, Briar. Their circumstance is very unusual. They are so very young but they acted as if they're already in their 20's. Briar's parents are always incognito and are always keeping up appearances. They care so much for money that they forget that they have a child. Maybe that's why Briar knows how to be alone and take care of her self. Anyway, Chase and Briar became friends. Briar comes with Chase to Montana and there began their love story.
The plot was a bit surreal. I swear, the story is like a fairy tale. You know that this couldn't happen in real life but you're still happy reading it because you know it's going to have a good ending.
This novel was adorable. And I mean that in a, "this is a really great YA love story" way, not the cheesy kind of adorable you would save for your little sister. For one: cover love is pretty clear here. J.C. Isabella made a FANTASTIC choice with that one. The cover drew me right in, I didn't even have to read the blurb.
Then, the story! Straightaway, I was in love with Chase (I think I've made those feelings pretttty clear, since he's a country boy and all). I loved how Briar had no problem befriending Chase, I often get annoyed by stories where there's a conflict between popularity and Mr. Perfect. Briar didn't care what her "friends" thought of her hanging around Chase, and she had no problem sticking up for him when it was necessary.
Things got heavy when they headed to Montana. It was clear they were falling for one another and Briar had no problem adjusting to the lifestyle changes.
It's a quick, extremely fun book. I definitely recommend it!!!
I just loved this book! It was the sweetest story. Brair and Chase were adorable together! Brair's grandma was the best, she was so funny and she made up for Brair's crappy parents. Such a cute, light ya book!
I absolutely adored this book. I felt like I was reading a Hallmark movie, and a very good one. It was romantic, fun, adventurous, with the hot guy, cowboys, the city girl, wow. The cover drew me in automatically, and it is absolutely perfect. Chase McGree is a cowboy from Montana, where he was born and raised. He decided to move to Florida with his mom, to spend time with her before he graduated and took over the ranch. Being your classic cowboy, of course, he had to bring his horse, Ash, with him. Unfortunately, his mom's backyard wasn't that big, so he would sneak Ash out for a rides. One night while riding in the park he happens to run across a rather intoxicated and really cute cheerleader, Briar Thompson, a night that would change both of their lives forever. Of course, being the gentleman that he is, Chase wasn't about to leave her by herself in the park all intoxicated, so he takes care of her. Briar awakens and has an epiphany of sorts, realizing her life, her family, and her friends weren't what she thought, and neither was she. Her whole life she had believed the goal was to be popular, and everything and everyone (with the exception of her Grandma) revolved around who you were, your social status, how rich you were, how popular you were.....me, me, me. Chase McGree on the other hand not only was hot, he was real, honest, fun, exciting, and nonjudgmental, and he had taken a liking to the fiery little Briar Thompson, and she had most definitely taken a liking to him.
With her Grandma's help, and after run-ins with her ex-boyfriend Alex, and his friend, she goes to spend the summer with Chase at his ranch in Montana. This would be the ultimate test for this city girl and this cowboy. They both find there is a lot more about the other than they originally thought, especially when things start happening around the ranch that aren't quite accidents, and then on top of that Briar's parent's find out where she really is. Can this cheerleader turned country girl and this cowboy who loves her overcome all the odds stacked against them?
As I said earlier I adored this book. Chase has the whole hot cowboy persona going on and I just loved everything about him. He may seem easy going, but he knows what he wants, and he is a force to be reckoned with. I really liked Briar to. She's not your typical little stuck-up rich girl, and when she realized her feelings and what she wanted, she boldly went after it. I especially loved Briar's grandma, she's a hoot. The romance in this book is clean, yet very hot. I loved the story line and was captivated from beginning to end. I am a really sucker for a good romance, and Chasing McCree definitely fits the bill. Not only is it is a good romance, it has plenty of action and drama also. If you love YA contemporary romance, or contemporary romance in general, especially if you have a soft spot for cowboys, then Chasing McCree is one book you won't want to miss.
Favorite quotes:
I followed her further into the yard and towards the sounds of country music. Chase was around the back of a shed...shirtless, with a crossbow, shooting at a target painted on a tree. Cripes, he really was one of those woodsy hunting types. And Damn if he didn't look good. He grinned turning down the music and dropped the crossbow on the ground. "Hey, I was just about to call you, see where you were." "With Grandma, she was very chatty," I grinned back, trying not to stare since his mother was right next to me. "You really are the kind of guy that could go into the forest with a pocketknife and build a city." His mother burst out laughing and had to excuse herself. "Maybe not a city," Chase grabbed a flannel shirt that he'd tossed over a tree branch and pulled it on. He closed the distance between us and stopped close enough that our shoes were touching. "Couple of tree houses and a lean-to."
She was wearing black hiking boots, ones with pink laces and glitter on the logo. They weren't like anything I'd ever seen, but they would be comfortable and sturdy, and she looked damn cute in them.
Brair smile up at me and whispered, "Damn them all, Cowboy, Damn them all." I tugged her close for our first kiss. "Yes Ma'am."
Chase kissed me slow and sweet in the cool night air. I changed. He changed. We changed. I wasn't a cheerleader anymore or a rich man's spoiled daughter. My life before meeting Chase didn't define me. Everything changed. Things would never be the same. And what a great adventure it would be.
Chasing McCree switches between the perspectives of Chase McCree and Briar Thompson, although while I was reading I felt the main POV was Chase's. The story begins and finished with Chase.
Chase and Briar couldn't be from two more different worlds than they are. Chase is a cowboy from Montana, ready to inherit his family's ranch, trying to live with his mother in Florida. It's not that he doesn't love his mother, but he misses ranch life and doesn't like city life in Florida. Briar is a cheerleader and one of the popular crowd at her high school. But when she stumbles upon Chase in a park one night, drunk and injured, everything changes. She sees how superficial and shallow her life has been and decides to just be who she really is, instead of who others want her to be. A summer in Montana with Chase sounds like just what she needs.
You know, it really annoys me when rich kids judge those who aren't like them. They call Chase a hick and basically trailer trash, but what they don't know is that Chase is probably richer than all of them put together, he just doesn't flaunt it around. What I like about Briar is that, just like Chase, she has a lot of money but doesn't really care about it. And it's just awesome how she defends Chase when he's verbally attacked by his classmates. Then there's Briar's parents who think that Chase is just using her to get their money. It was priceless when they found out just how much Chase is worth. That really shut them up!
Another thing was how no one believed that Briar could possibly love living on the McCree Ranch. Is it so inconceivable that a city girl could love ranch life? I mean, seriously. Just because they don't like it doesn't mean that someone else from the city wouldn't. For someone who loves animals and wants to be a veterinarian, the ranch is the perfect place for Briar.
But living on a ranch can be dangerous too, with all the buyers out there wanting a piece of Chase's 50,000 acres. They even go so far as to hire Chase's ranch hands to scare Chase into selling by setting fires, breaking and entering into his house, shooting his cattle, and desecrating his family's memorial site. But nothing they do will ever make Chase sell the ranch--no amount of money can entice him when he has more than he knows what to do with, and any kind of vandalism or violence just makes him angry. Chase's love for his family's ranch, his family's legacy, is matched only by how much he loves Briar.
One of my favorite characters, besides our main couple, is Briar's grandmother. She's quirky and funny. She doesn't sugarcoat anything, she says it like it is. And she 100% there for Briar when her parents aren't.
I absolutely LOVED Chasing McCree. It has become one of my favorite contemporary young adult reads!
Chasing McCree is one of the best books I have read this year as far as romance goes. From the moment I started reading it I could not put it down. I am so glad I am a part of this blog tour hosted by YA Bound! I am going to try and do this review without spoilers in it.
Chase McCree is in Florida staying with his mother trying to give the city life a try. The only thing is Chase is not used to the city. He is a country boy through and through. Lord I love me some cowboys and country boys. I swear there is something in their blood that makes them polite and loyal to the ones they love. Chase decides that he would give his mother a shot and move up to Florida to spend time with her.
The only thing is he hates Florida because there is nothing to do in Florida but go shopping and hang out with friends. Not interested in any of that Chase decides he would rather gouge his eyes out instead of living here in Florida. That is until one day he is out riding his horse Ash and he stumbles upon a drunk cheerleader. Chase being raised with southern manners can't leave her there in the park all alone and drunk. SO he brings her home and takes care of her. Chase is not sure if they can be friends but he hopes they can be.
Briar is an only child who is spoiled rotten. She has had everything handed to her and she is oblivious to reality. That is until she goes to a party at her friends house where she learns some things about her so called friend and boyfriend. She leaves the party drunk and someone is chasing her and she runs for her life. She ends up running to the school soccer field where she meets Chase. She is drunk but yet she knows she can rely on Chase and trust him not to hurt her or take advantage of her.
The two become friends and decide to spend time together. But what is Briar to do when she has these self absorbed friends? Chase is a down to earth guy who wants nothing more than to return home to his cattle and true family. What will Chase do once he gets to know Briar? Will he return home and forget about the girl that brings sunshine into his life? Or will Briar ditch him for her friends? Come along for the greatest teenage love story ever!
What a sweet story. I think I was expecting a little bit of a fluffy story, but there was a bit more depth to it than I initially thought. While I had some minor issues with the plot and a few scenes, I fell in love with these characters and was rooting for them to have a happy ending.
I wasn't sure I would like Briar going into the book. She surprised me though and I found that I really liked her. Briar is a very real and genuine person. I like that she recognized that her friends were fake and that she wanted to distance herself from them. I think it takes courage to break away like that when you're in high school.
It made me sad that her parents weren't involved in her life like they should have been. They were so selfish. I can't even imagine not knowing what was happening in my child's life. Her grandma made up for some of that abandonment though. The grandma was a hoot. She reminded me of my grandma.
Chase is one dreamy guy. I'm not typically into the whole cowboy thing, but Chase rocked it. He is so considerate, sweet, and honest. Basically, Chase is a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He is Briar's savior and hero in a lot of ways. He helped her be true to herself and he showed her love. He was a swoon-worthy guy.
The story developed nicely. Although I have to say that I became more involved in the story once they left Florida. Her parents and friends bothered me. I was happy to see Briar become more at ease once they reached Montana. I liked that their relationship started out as a friendship, but developed into a lasting love. It was truly sweet.
I have to say that I went back and forth on a rating for this one, but the bottom line came down to the epilogue. I'm a big fan of the epilogue. I have this strong need to know what is going to happen later. I loved loved loved this epilogue. I won't spoil it, but I felt like the progression of their relationship was realistic, so it was more meaningful to me. Great ending.
If you are a fan of swoon-worthy guys, cowboys, and sweet love stories...this is a great book for you.
I loved this book alot! it was so adorable to read, and funny and everything! it is amazing!
This book, about a girl from florida and a cowboy from montana meet after he helps her one night when she is drunk and alone at a park. Briar's life is all fake, her parents, her friends. the only person she really likes is her grandparents, but then she meets Chase. He is the most careing guy, and she basically falls for him instantly. Chase and Briar go back to chases ranc hin montana for the summer and fall inlove, whilst they are struggling with briars parents wanting her to come home/notcareing about her at first, and somebody trying to ruin his ranch.
The story line to this is really amazing, i really like the complication/situation in this book, if it were a movie it would be a really really good one! My favorite character was probably....... briar. even though i loved chase i loved briar a bit more. she was living in a fake life and its like god sent chase to her to make her life better! she was a really funny and cute character to read about. Chase was so adorable and probably, one of the top book boys i like so far! He is so protective over briar in a cute (not weird) way. This is the second book this year that has me swooning over a cowboy. I'm seriously starting to rethink my type in men. Lol
Chase McCree is just such a hard working, sweet, and caring guy you can't help but like him. Well more like swoon over him. *winks* He has his head on his shoulders and he knows exactly what he wants. He is a rancher through and through, but deciding to move in with his mom in Florida definitely throws him for a culture shock. One he couldn't really find anything good about until he came across a drunk and stumbling cheerleader in the park one night. Being the nice guy that he is he helps her and takes care of her for the night, and that's when it all started...
This is one of those perfect beach reads. It's cute, it's light, it has the right amount of drama and swoon worthy moments. Plus there is even a spunky grandma thrown in that is made of awesomeness. I LOVED grandma! She made me laugh over and over again, and I love the way she stood up for Briar. Speaking of our drunken cheerleader, Briar, you can't help but lover her and feel for her. Especially since her parents are too busy having affairs, keeping up appearances, and getting botox injections that they don't even notice her half the time. Until Briar met Chase she was never anything more than a shiny toy that you dress up and bring out for company. The poor girl was never given the chance to just be herself accept when she was with her grandma. Add that to the fact that she can also throw a pretty mean punch and you have a girl that will steal your heart.
Overall this was a great read. I couldn't put it down from start to finish, and I love how it ended!
I both loved and & questioned my love for this book. Yeah, I know, "how is that possible?" Well, let me just tell you.
For the most part, this was an awesome story. The beginning was just a little slow for me, but once the story picked up, it was very hard to put down!
Here you have Chase. Swoon worthy, mysterious, fun loving cowboy Chase. Living with his mother and her new husband, he finds himself in a new school where unless you have tons of money, you just do not fit in. Too bad they don't know his little secret.
Insert Briar stage left. One of the said rich people, cheerleader, jock boyfriend and all around girl that most girls wish they were in high school. So why does Chase find her wandering through the park at night, scratched, bloody and drunk?
While I loved reading the story of these two, there were just some things that left me with questions. For instance, what sane grandmother lies to her her granddaughters parents about letting her go to a ranch with a boy they hardly even know? Some parts of this story were a bit rushed, while others were either talked about in passing or brought up once with no lead up and that was that.
I absolutely loved this book. I beta read the book for the author but the review I am giving is of the published version. I have read this story three times now (twice as a beta reader once as a regular reader) and I still love it. I love Briar and Chase and their relationship and from the beginning I was hoping for more story. That's a good thing when you wanna keep turning the pages for more. I loved reading the book the most recent time because I could see all the changes from the original version I read. I saw the changes I suggested and was very excited to see each one. This is my first cowboy YA book and I so love it. I would recommend it to anyone cause its a good read along with "The unofficial Zack Warren Fan Club." I love music and associate music to characters in books and since Chase loves country I chose country songs. “I Don't Want This Night To End” by Luke Bryan is the song I feel comes from Chase’s perspective to Briar. “God Gave Me You” by Blake Shelton is the song I feel comes from Briar’s perspective to Chase. All the lyrics don’t exactly match everything but they work. Dustin Lynch "Cowboys and Angels" and especially Kip Moore's "Hey Pretty Girl" fit the book nicely as well.
Okay, so you know how every now and then you run into a book where you can't part ways with? Yeah, that's this book for me. I know I say this a lot, how a book has captivated me and I absolutely love it, but I do. I really do. I adored Chase McCree's character. Such a sweet and caring guy. He was always gentle and giving. And so hard working for such a young age. He knew what he wanted in life and he stuck with it. He was very protective of Briar, but not in that "come near her and I'll break your face". He gave her space to figure things out. I think that my second favorite character was grandma! Boy did she have spunk. And she also took very good care of Briar. She gave her normalcy. Briar, Briar, a girl that can give a good left hook and a good knee to the groin while defending yourself is my kind of girl! Good for her on getting away from those uppitty parents, you know, the ones that don't know how to appreciate their kids because they are too busy getting botox injections and having affairs and spending too much money. I'm glad that she was able to find a good family that loved her for who she was. And the ending, it was PERFECT!!! Yeah, like I said before, I can't get enough of this book. I keep wondering what would happen next in their lives!!!
I love cowboys. I kinda suspected this about myself, but reading this book confirmed it. Chase McCree is a true-blue cowboy. He's confident in what he wants, knows what life has in store for him, and finds unexpected love in a cheerleader. Briar Thompson can't stand her friends, her parents or her life. After a life-changing epiphany while drunk, Briar decides she's going to change her ways. Her first change is befriending the new cowboy in town, Chase McCree. At first they seem to be complete opposites, but soon realize they have everything in common. Briar follows Chase to Montana despite what everyone (including Chase's mother) thinks will happen: that Briar will go home at the end of the summer. What really happens is an unexpected summer of life-long love.
OK, enough about the plot. ;-) I loved this book. I fell in love with Chase right from the start, when he chased Briar through the park. I love how Briar stood up to her friends and finally her parents. This was a feel good YA romance, easily gobbled up in a day (as I have done, though I'm tempted to turn around and read it again). Another gem from J.C. Isabella.
Chase McCree is a cowboy. Briar Thompson is a cheerleader. They're both wise beyond their years and looking for love. They find it in each other, and it isn't long before Briar is running away from her selfish, rich parents in Florida to stay with Chase on his cattle ranch in Montana. It's just a short trip. Just for fun...right? What could possibly go wrong? Famous last words, my friends. Famous last words.
This was a cute, short and easy book to read. I love cowboys (and who doesn't, really?), and it was interesting to me to have two drastically different characters fall in love. In fact, I was wondering if the author was going to be able to pull it off. And guess what? She did! I was totally sold on Briar and Chase's romance. The best thing about the story was that their love was sweet rather than just plain hot, if you know what I mean. There was some substance behind it, and that was warming. There were several unbelievable aspects to the book - the characters acted as if they were in their late 20s rather than 17 year-olds in High School. But if you can get past the few quirks, it's an enjoyable story that's cutely written.
I really liked Briar in this story. She was that typical popular girl who had it all, but she didn't act like it. She was the type from high school who won homecoming queen and such because of the votes of the not so popular kids, not the popular ones. She seems to have it all on the outside, but really she feels alone. She feels that she has no one in the world except her grandma, who is pretty awesome for a grandma!
Chase came in and turned her world upside down. I loved the development between the two. How she thought he was a slacker and he was actually extremely smart. How everyone called him trailer trash and yet he had his own entire Ranch in Montana.
I liked how this story parallels the theme of Chase's parents lives. His mom leaving her world to be with his dad didn't work out and Chase and Briar are determined to prove everyone wrong.
Overall this was a solid 4 star story and even though it was young adult it reminded me of reading a western romance. Which I love! Gotta love a cowboy. I am from TEXAS! ; ) I look forward to reading more from J.C. Isabella in the future!
That should be enough for you to want to read this book. But if you’re one of those people who need more than the prospect of worn out cowboy boots and a cowboy hat to get into something, then you should read it because of Briar’s grandmother. She is the coolest old lady I’ve ever read about, always having Briar’s back.
The way Briar and Chase meet is kind of funny, considering the circumstances: Briar is running through the park, drunk and disoriented because someone spiked her drink, with scrapes on her hands and knees; Chase is riding his horse – yes, you read that right, his horse -, when he comes across Briar. Being the gentleman he was raised to be, he can’t seem to bring himself to leave her alone, so he brings her to his house to she can sleep her drunkenness off. And that’s how their story beginnings.
The more they get to know each other, the faster they fall in love, so when Chase decides to head back to his ranch in Montana and invites Briar to come along, she accepts. Soon, Briar figures out that life in the ranch is nothing like she thought it would be – it’s even better! She finally found a place where she can be herself, and be happy.
I wanted to take part in this tour because I had heard some buzz on a Livejournal community about this book and I wanted to see what it was all about. It has a super cute plot. Cowboy and a rich girl cheerleader. Sure it sounds like something that has been done before, but the story is such a fun read, that it doesn't matter, especially with the cast of characters that she creates.
You love Briar from the minute that she meets Chase, drunk and thinking she has 4 legs! And then there's her grandma! OMG! Briar's gram joins the ranks of cool old ladies, like Grandma Mazur!
This book reminded me of the YA books I read when I was in high school. Not that there's anything old fashioned, but because it was a sweet love story, complete with all the proper twists and turns necessary to keep you turning the pages. This is definitely a YA I can recommend! Plus no vampires, witches etc...which I really think are getting old. Its nice to see a normal contemporary romance for the YA crowd, and J.C. Isabella delivers that nicely!
Visit my blog! For similar and equally fab books!!
I really did love this book the contrast of a popular girl and a cow boy made a swoon worthy effect, the very fact that I'm from England made it even better! Cowboys! It's just way too cool :D
I loved this book!
This would make a great summer YA Romance read with some thriller tendencies!
Overall, I gave the book four stars because it checked a few things on my list for reading:
Romance Likeable characters (ILOVED THESE ONES!!) Hunky hero Fiery heroin Great secondary characters Conflicts thrown at the loving couple And an all out page turner
What could be better!
Oh and P.S: Although somethings may not be realistic - like a grandmother saying yes to her granddaughter leaving with a cowboy, who CARES theres a reason they call books fiction
