Even witches have to keep up with the times, so Emily was thrilled to be attending her first conference: The International Code of Conduct for Witches.

Unfortunately it was just as uninspiring as its title. But her boredom quickly turns to fear when she overhears a conversation that puts her in danger. While trying to elude the menacing glares of two rogue witches, Emily walks straight into the solid chest of Jake Wheeler.

She doesn't know it yet, but as the best witch doctor in the country, Jake might be the only one with enough power to save her.

Memories of Magic is a 15,000 word novella and Book One in The High Priestess Trilogy.

Emily is a good witch attending a witch convention in Santa Monica. She is passing through a group of witches and overhears two dark witches devising a plan to develop mowarts to perform evil deeds. She sensed their evil and continues outside the hotel and meets Jake, a witch with healing powers. They have a strong physical attaction to each other. However, Emily is involved in an auto accident that causes her a loss of memory. She cannot recall anything about the convention, nor can she recall who Jake is. Will she be helped to regain her memory? The author writes a flowing, memorable story which will absorb you right from the start. It's very well written.

This is a novella so don't expect too much from it. It is the story of how Emily and Jake meet and that's about it. There is a story in there about a take-over bid of the High Priestess and how this is sorted but all in all the book is very fast-paced and leaves a lot for you to find out in the author's other books. You basically "dip a toe" into their world and it will either leave you wanting more or you'll move onto a next book.

For the 30 minutes it took to read this novella I was totally entertained. Emily over hears 2 male witches discussing plans to develop evil, soulless creatures shortly thereafter she meets Jake Wheeler, an attractive witch doctor. The same night she is in a car accident and loses not only her memory but her magic. Needless to say Jake is instrumental in restoring her memory and her magic

Reading this reminded me why I try to avoid novellas at all cost. So few are written well and this is not one of them. Poor individual character development, poor treatment of suspense, and poor transitions between scenes. This is one of the rare titles that I permanently deleted from my Kindle.

A great start to this trilogy and a quick read to get you into Emily and Jakes world.
I would have liked a bit more expansion of the witch craft elements and in places i though the story was a little rushed, but the ending made up for that.

Looking forward to book 2
