This was ok but the ending left me confused, wanting more to the story. I figured out that the "things" were shape shifters, that had me confused in the first Unseen. Things still were confusing to me after this one... was that really Jared at the end? What happens to Dakota? Were Jarod, Nicholas & Byron all brothers? What happened to Byron to get him "stuck" in between worlds like he was?
This book just left me with to many questions to really enjoy it.

The second book (which technically contains two books) in THE UNSEEN series is even darker than the first one, which surprised me. It's also much more mysterious. I kept turning pages hoping to glean another clue from the narrative about what exactly is going on.

Even though the reader is given glimpses into the mind of the Big Bad and his evil plot, we're just in the dark in many ways as Lucy and Dakota are. I loved that Lucy had Dakota as a faithful friend who is there to support her in any way possible. Of course, it becomes quite apparent that anyone that Lucy cares for is in dire danger from the evil that is stalking her.

Again, there were plenty of genuinely creepy and scary scenes that I enjoyed tremendously. I also liked the added fact that the Big Bad is a shapeshifter, so you're never quite sure Lucy is dealing with the person she thinks she is.

As for the end...wow. I set the book down and pondered over all I had read to come to my on conclusion as to what the end actually meant. And frankly, any way you slice it...*shiver*

My theory... DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK

In the end, I really enjoyed this series and I think it's a damn shame that most of this author's works are now out of print. I hope she regains her rights and self-publishes them. I would DEFINITELY buy them.

I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a good solid scary/creepy read.

I just can't bring myself to give higher than 3 stars. It depresses me, but as much as the 3rd book was a solid 4&1/2 stars book 4 was a 2 for me. I will explain why. During books 1-3, I raced along excited, anxious, confused, and trying to put it all together and find a way for a happy ending. I reached book 4 , reading as fast as possible without missing a word, and BAM! I ran head long into the brick wall that was an ending, but yet wasn't an ending at all.

****spoilers below****

Byron is okay and they can help him, right? She loves Byron and all of this was revolving around "anything for Byron". So why on earth did she wed herself to Jared right in front of Byron? Jared, Byron, Matt... made her seem like a fickle little girl in the end and not the strong heroine she was supposed to be. Mad disappointment that left me feeling stupid and cheated. Left far too many unanswered questions. I wanted an ENDING in the final book, not something that could have been the first chapter before we were told HOW they got there. What happens to Jared? How will Byron take eternity watching her make out with the "king"? Where is that darn rainbow scarf?? Maybe I just need closure... lol

goodreads? more like bad reads. what the actual heck. this book was average if anything. the only reason I kept reading was because every chapter ended on a cliffhanger. this girl cannot pick a guy. honestly bro what even was that. ending was terrible. so much left unanswered. no thank you.

The second installment in the Unseen series picks up shortly after the first book left off. The novel's protagonist, Lucy Dennison, is haunted by her past experiences. Her world is turned upside down when she stumbles across an open grave while taking an evening stroll through a cemetery. To her horror, she discovers a young girl in the grave with a dagger embedded in her chest. In her final, dying breaths, the mysterious girl imparts a dangerous power upon Lucy. With this power comes a new, deadly world that Lucy blindly stumbles into. Lucy's life is in shambles, and as she attempts to piece it back together, she becomes aware of a non-human creature that watches her every move, haunting her every waking moment. This stalker lays in silent wait, carefully calculating the exact moment to strike.

Overall, I enjoyed the first section of the book (which is technically the third book in the series) more than the second section (or the fourth book in the series). Despite the fact that I was thoroughly confused for the majority of the 3rd book, the sudden twists and turns made it an exciting read. Readers were left to guess how individual events were connected and attempt to identify Lucy's stalker. The events moved along at a fairly fast pace, keeping readers in the dark as to what would happen next and leaving them searching for answers. Beginning the fourth book, however, was like running headfirst into a brick wall. A very solid one, mind you. The plot took a turn for the worse, becoming even more confusing and rather hard to follow. The plot came to a standstill, containing a good deal of unnecessary "filler" chapters.

My main complaint was regarding the conclusion. Both books in the series were leading up to the climax, which occurred fairly late (within the last 40 pages). As a result, both the climax and the ending were rushed, leaving readers with a decent number of unanswered questions. For example, the true identity of Lucy's stalker is never fully revealed. The author hints at his identity on multiple occasions, but leaves many gaping holes. Additionally, there is a large amount of information revealed about numerous characters in the final chapters of the book. This information is hurriedly flung at readers, not giving them enough time to absorb these new developments. If these facts had been revealed gradually, it would have been a different story altogether.

I enjoyed the differing points of view, which tended to switch from Lucy's perspective to that of her stalker. The chapters that were written through her stalker's eyes were very well crafted; the author managed to conceal his identity until the final chapter. Readers are provided with brief glimpses at the stalker's plans and motives, but are left guessing as to who he truly is. Also, the transitions between different narrators were smooth and well executed, as opposed to the more common, abrupt, and choppy transitions.

Lucy's character was frustrating at times, due to her indecisiveness and naive nature. She constantly denied the events that unfolded around her, choosing to ignore the truths that were clearly spelled out in front of her. When forced to confront these truths, Lucy concocted countless excuses, placing the blame on someone else. Additionally, Lucy was overly trusting, placing her faith in complete strangers. Consequently, she was extremely gullible. Lastly, she repeated the same mistakes over and over again. It was evident that she had not learned from any of her previous mistakes.

And now for the romance, or lack there of. Despite Lucy's attraction to nearly every guy within a 50 mile radius, the novel contained minimal romance. Very minimal. As in two quick kisses in the entire series. There was no chemistry between the characters whatsoever. Readers were privy to Lucy's thoughts for the majority of the book, yet she never openly discusses her love interests. Therefore, it is impossible to determine whom Lucy truly loves.

This book was decent; it had both its flaws and its perks. It was a relatively quick read, making it much more bearable. The plot became a bit complicated at times, however, so I would definitely recommend reading the first book in the series before tackling this one. It is imperative that you read carefully, or else you will miss important details. In general, I would recommend this to someone in search of a fast, easy read that differs tremendously from other YA books.

[Taken from my blog: http://geekyreading.blogspot.com/2012... ]

It’s been a few weeks since I read this (maybe more, actually), so some of my emotions for it have lessened in intensity. So, sorry for that.
This was the third and last parts of the series, and I had more hopes for it than I received. The messy wording and usage of ellipses and italics was still very much present. The italics were probably the part that I didn’t mind the most; but there was still a huge amount used, and I’m sure it could annoy others.
And then there’s Lucy. She annoyed me so much. At the end of the second book, she sounded like she was accepting things and moving forward, but instead she proceeded to change nothing. She was still hesitant and denied everything (until the very end), and even when her friend tried to convince her otherwise, she denied things. I don’t… I don’t understand why the villain was after her. Because she’s easy and fun to play with, I guess? She’s not smart, so that couldn’t be it.
Also, she felt a lot for Gran and Byron, and I felt that that was a little fast. She didn’t really get to know either of them, but was still all but actually in love with Byron and protective of Gran. I honestly don’t see what everyone likes about her, or why they think she’s so special. She’s really not. There were more people than I thought in love with her by the end, and I just don’t get it.
The plot was actually pretty good, though. There were quite a few more complications thrown in, some of which I wasn’t expecting. Or, at least, the amount of which I wasn’t expecting. Although I didn’t quite understand what Lucy had to do with the family feud. (Maybe she was just another thing they were fighting over? Or perhaps it’s just fuzzy in my mind?)
Again, the biggest thing that bothered me was Lucy. She was dumb. And several other characters would have been a better protagonist. Byron’s sister or Dakota, for example.
And the ending! I don’t want to spoil it, but it frustrates me beyond belief. I couldn’t understand why Lucy thought what she was doing was a good idea, since it was very obviously not. Although, I kind of did like the ending, no matter how much her stupidity frustrates me, because she kind of deserved it. She even asked for it, for God’s sake.
I don’t know what else to say about it. I’m frustrated, and while it was kind of torturous to read at times, the ending bumped the rating up a bit. I hate Lucy and I kind of want to punch her in the face or something because she is so dumb. I did kind of like the villain and the twists that were thrown in. I could probably continue to rant about my hate for Lucy, but it would get repetitive and probably boring (as my frustration, in my head, is just nonsensical not-actual-words-but-sounds to express my feelings), so I’m not going to do that.
(Sidenote: Aren't the covers on the original version of the books, when they were first released separately, terrible? It goes really well with the books, though, as it is basically hinting that this is going to be one of those cheesy, maybe stereotypical mystery-horror books.)

The ending sucks!!!!!

Lucy is still living with her cold aunt Irene. Her cousin Angela is still missing and Lucy is pretty sure she is dead. Her friend and priest, Father Matt is trying to help her but doesn't believe in all her "hallucinations". She sees creatures in the night and is sure that someone or something is trying to kill her and all of loved ones. She receives a package one day and it turns out to be a grave stone with the words R.I.P. Angela. Crazy stuff keeps happening and no one is around to witness it. She finds a hurt guy who claims to be Byron's brother, nurses him back to health and then when Byron's brother shows up to meet his long lost gran, it's a completely different person whom she doesn't trust one bit. Her friend Dakota proves to be true and amazing though, believing her and open to helping her in all ways that she needs. But then the creatures attack Dakota. Luckily she lives but is at risk just by being friends with Lucy.

This book did have too much filler. Way too much. It was the same thing over and over again and it was just a whole lot of build up. Yet the anticipation of a great ending kept me turning the pages like a maniac. It's a great page-turner.

The ending though: Spoiler Alert:
WTF. It almost seems as if Ms. Cusick was rushing out the door when she wrapped up this book. It is one of the worst endings I have ever read. Not only is 4 guys claiming to be head over heels for her, willing to die for her, but she seems like she is into all of them as well! She doesn't just pick one, it seems like the one in front of her at that particular time is the one she wants the most. She Liked all of them with the exception of Nicholas equally. I'm just thinking PICK ONE!!! You can't just hop around. She would be holding hands with Matt, kissing him, boom he's dead so now she's making out with Jared. Huh? And the actual ending. Jared tells her she can't go to his world, she needs to enjoy her life and her friends. Forget her best friend Dakota who has been there for her through everything and risked her life her Lucy. There isn't even a mention of their friendship when the book ends on Lucy choosing to go to their world. WTF…bros over hoes Lucy. Lucy does ask if Dakota will recover from her injuries and Jared assures her she will be, but that is not a resolve!

The unseen 2 was a good book.. full of mystery and constantly kept you wondering who did what, and who is who.
However, in the 4th and final book it was drawn out so much I had already guessed the ending ( and was right) way in the beginning. The ending was extremely abrupt and should have had at least a couple more chapters to follow. A good read but not a must read and certainly not memorable.

The main character Lucy was so frustrating and so naive it was unbelievable. If something bad happens and she would come up with every stupid excuse for it and it would frustrate me to no end. Some characters would come into the story and make such an impression, or be involved for a lengthy amount of time and then fall out of the story for what felt like forever. Honestly i think the whole 4 book saga should have been a single book.

Wow another fantastic read! Very fluid and easy to read. A great finish to this series. Some nice twists to the story that will definitely make you second guess yourself. I loved the mystery and the "scary" feel about the series and how the author leads you slowly to the terror making you sit on the edge of your seat. Definitely one of my faves this year!

*UPDATE* October 21, 2020

I did change the rating of this book to a 3 from a 5 simply because I understood more this time around and the ending was just not right. I did still like the horror aspect of the book, the mystery, the edge of the seat portions of the book, BUT the ending kind of slapped me in the face pretty hard as I realized what I was reading. It made it feel like there should be a 'once and for all' book. Utterly disappointed me. Why did I not catch it the first time around?

WHAT THE HELL? :/

*Contains Spoilers BEWARE*

The ending is confusing! I still don't understand! First of all she fell in love with Byron! Then Matt! Then she discovered she has feelings for Nicolae when she saw him dead? (He was going to kill her! And she feels sorry for him?) And then she has feelings for Byron's brother (Forgot his name?) And she was planing to live in his world with him and Byron "because she's not normal" Does it even make sense? Not to mention she was kissing him in front of Byron o.o" what the hell!

not only was he there watching them kissing, but he was hurt after Matt hit him! oh and her supposedly best friend is unconscious and she didn't give a damn!

URGHH! THIS IS THE MOST FRUSTRATING BOOK I HAVE EVER READ!

When I read the first two books I instantly fell I love with them! I didn't think there could be a better way to make it like how amazing it already is. But I was wrong, the last two books got me so hooked! The book could be predicting at some times, but when I got towards the end my mouth literally opened up with shock! This book may not be super popular but that doesn't mean you shouldn't read it. This book is just so creepy and good. YOU NEED TO READ THIS SERIES NOW!!!!!!

Again, this was just as disappointing as the first book. So many story lines that were started and never finished. So many story lines that were ended terribly. So many story lines that didn't make sense and ended up being the major turning point in the book. Terrible terrible book.

If anything, this book does surprise you...but not all surprises are good...

All four books were quick reads with good build up. They made you want to know what was going on even though there was so much filler, it could probably have been made into a single book.

The ending was too rushed and too...out there.
So is Lucy just “in love” with any guy that gives her positive attention? Is she so desperate to be loved that she’s just going to ignore her best friend and leave her behind to go along with someone she’s seen a handful of times?
The book ends with too many unanswered questions, all the information on the shapeshifters seemed too crammed. It could have been revealed sooner so that it wasn’t so rushed.
In the end, you can’t even really tell who was the one always watching her throughout the series. Both Jared and Nicholas needed her to become the leader, both wanted her soul and tricked her so easily.
Did Gran know about the bloodline thing?
Did Katherine have any idea that the two evils were HER bloodline?
Who picked up Lucy after the accident?
Which one had her in the cave?
Which one actually attacked Dakota?
What ever happened to the green necklace?

...what a mess...

This series was originally released in 2005 and 2006, and was four separate books. Walmart recently repackaged and re-released the series as two volumes, each containing two of the original books. This seems to be the trend in books these days because I've been seeing soooo many others being redone this way. Anyway, I noticed it and paused to look at it a few times before finally giving in and buying it.

I wish I would have written this as soon as I'd finished reading because now enough time has passed that I don't remember all the finer details. Overall, I liked these books. They are not grand literature, but it was a pleasant enough read. A quick and easy read too. The first book in volume one started out so good, I couldn't put it down and couldn't wait to get back to it if I did have to break away from reading. Things turned a little cheesy and over-dramatic for a while with one character but once he was removed from the situation things got better again. Each of the books ends rather abruptly, and then the first chapter of the next book is just a repeat of the last chapter of the previous book . . . which was somewhat annoying but oh well.

The story kept me guessing. Sometimes that was good and had me tense and anxious for answers, but sometimes it was just because things were not explained clearly. The end left things hanging for me. While I did have to laugh because I had not seen the final twist coming, when all was said and done I felt like some things were just never tied up. I actually checked online to see if there was another book after these. LOL

I had suspected all along that one main character (Matt, the priest) was not what he appeared to be, but he was my favorite character nonetheless and I was disappointed to see what his role in all of this really was. I'd had much grander visions.

As for the unseen, the evil stalkers . . . what were they? I still don't know. Shape shifters were mentioned a lot. Some werewolf type thing was mentioned. Something about needing to complete the transformation from one class to the next was mentioned. But was it ever really explained? I didn't come away from this series feeling like I knew just what they were or why there were that way. It also got tiring sometimes always wondering if there was trickery going on, or if things were legit for the moment. But overall, yes, I did like this series and I would recommend it for a quick supernatural type read.

MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

When I finished book one I knew I wanted to read book two to find out what was going to happen. I still had questions that I needed answers to.
Well I wasn't very happy with this book it was one I kept putting down only to pick up to put down. I think it took me a bit longer to finish that I planned to.
We start off right where we ended in book one and new characters are introduced. Lucy will finally get to meet the one that has been stalking her. The way this creature was described I was like wow okay never thought of that I was thinking more like a vampire, though the clues were all right there in front of me.
Now Lucy is still with her aunt who I just can not stand as a character she leaves her niece alone while she goes and does a job even though her daughter or well step-daughter is missing? Who does that? Obviously someone who doesn't care.
Lucy is now going to take care of Gran which I think is pretty awesome of her to do, though when someone claiming to be the long lost relative of Gran's comes into the picture you have to wonder what is this person up to. Who is the mysterious Nicholas person and why is Lucy torn between liking him and hating him?
So as I said there are some new characters and one of them comes into play and this person is Jared he says he is Bryon's brother but how can Lucy trust and believe him. Bryon never mentioned a brother right? We see how Lucy is torn between helping him and leaving him out in the cold, but in the end what will she do?
I don't really know what else to say on this book I mean it seemed to have really good potential but I feel as though it fell flat. Lucy is like in a love triangle almost she really liked Bryon but he is dead which doesn't seem like very long, but then she has feelings for Matt, then Jared it was like it was all over the place on this.
Also the ending felt rushed and didn't feel right when the whole action scene went down at the end I wondered who was the person that was talking with Lucy? I am assuming the shape shifter?

I did enjoy the different points of views from Lucy and the stalker. The stalker's point of view was pretty good and it was nice to see through him.
I think the author has a good story to tell in this book but just didn't quite work for me as well as I thought it would. I do plan on reading more of her work to see what else she has in store.

First of all, part one of this book, Blood Brothers, is only 247 pages long. The page information for this book is incorrect. Part II, Sin and Salvation is 377 pages long.

So, part 1, which is really the third book in this series, was better than the first and second installment. Things are beginning to make sense, but you really have to pay attention to the very beginning of the book or you'll be lost.

I've read some reviews that have no idea what is going on with this book. So, if you don't want a spoiler, STOP READING NOW. For those that read and were confused, the character of Jared IS NOT BYRON'S BROTHER. In the very beginning of the book, the "thing" that has been after Lucy was attacked. When he heard her coming to the mausoleum he transformed into a human form that resembled Byron, telling Lucy he was his brother. This thing/Jared according to Lucy, had a huge bite taken out of him from the other things out there that are like him, as they fed off of him. Lucy sees this poor brother of Byron and the horrible wound he has as fatal. She gets him to the old abandoned church and into the cellar so he can rest and she can figure out what to do with him.

Then Lucy does something else. For a nice change, she confides in Dakota, telling her the whole sordid story from book one to present.

The story was more fast paced than the others, but as always, there was a lot of nothing added in as well. I'm very much looking forward to reading book four in the series so I can once and for all be done. AND, as always, this book ended in another cliffhanger, (more for Lucy than for us) so I want to see how this places out as well.

This book was just as quick of a read as the first one, but unfortunately it just wasn't as good.

It had all of the things I loved about the first one: good characters, a suspenseful plot, and twists and turns the whole way through. However, the ending was so weak and really disappointing considering I've been reading for about 1000 pages just to come to this, what?, 30 page ending tops?

There were more than two unanswered questions and left the reader just feeling...numb? I didn't really feel anything. Lucy ended up with a guy that wouldn't have been my top choice. And then the ending was just confusing...like I feel like the author tried to make the ending open for interpretation but it wasn't a good kind of open, and I just feel one giant "what?"

I did like some of the explanation that this final installment tackled, but on the other hand I feel like it just caused more question. So, I'm not sure if it was even worth it to try to explain what is going on with all these people.

Gonna be blunt about this story, first I enjoyed the story plot and kept me interested from book 1 and also in book 2, it did get a little confusing cause of the characters Byron, Jared & Nicolas, but once you got closer to the end of book 2 all was coming together and was able to understand what part or parts the characters portrayed, however, book 2 is a cliffhanger and I very well didn't like that. There definitely should be a 5th installment to this story, or it gonna leave everyone that reads this wondering what if? I gave it 4 stars cause to me it was worth it even though in some parts of the story was confusing and the end is a cliffhanger.

Obviously, you can't read this book without reading the first one. With this being the 3rd and 4th book in the series it continues the story of the others. With that being said, I have already written a review on the other one in this series. This book has all of the ending, THE ENDING BEING THE BEST PART ALWAYS! The ending had me stop reading and actually having to think about what I was reading. I WAS GETTING BLINDSIDED THE WHOLE TIME!! It was just amazing and I can never get over the ending that this book has given. Different from anything that I have read.

I thought this book was as good as the first one until I got to the end. In my opinion, there should have been at least one more chapter. Most of the questions that you have during the series are answered but the ending caused me to have a whole new question that unfortunately will never be answered since it was the end of the series. That is the only reason that I gave it 3 stars instead of 5.
