Those who are destined for love must still struggle to win it.
The Bearens’ Hope is an extra full-length, 159,700 word, novel and is the fourth book in “The Soul-Linked Saga”.
Beautiful artist Hope Strigeda, whose genetic legacy makes her precious both to the people of planet Jasan and the part reptilian, part human Brethren, is kidnapped by the Brethren and imprisoned in a remote desert compound. Sent to Earth to investigate the mysterious disappearance of other women like Hope, the Jasani Bearen brothers—shape shifters who transform into gigantic bears--discover that Hope is their Arima, their destined, eternal soul-mate. The Bearens team up with psychic Agent Ellicia Daniels to rescue Hope and the other missing women.
When Hope and two other imprisoned women escape into the trackless desert that surrounds their prison, Ellicia and the Bearens must race to find her before she can be recaptured by the Brethren and transported off world by the enigmatic Xanti, aliens whose ultimate goal is nothing short of the destruction of Earth and Jasan. Hope and Ellicia must both call upon their psychic gifts and their human courage to save, not only Hope, but Ellicia’s babies who may themselves be a prophesied treasure of the Jasani race.
Even if the Bearens and Hope can be brought together, and even given the volcanic sexual attraction they feel for each other, can these destined lovers overcome the light years of differences of biology and custom that separate their two planets, and their mutual resistance to compromising some of their most basic beliefs, to join in an endless love that reaches across The Thousand Worlds?
The Bearens’ Hope is full of everything that has brought thousands of readers to the novels of Laura Jo Phillips: heart-stirring emotion and romance, thrilling adventure, tangled webs of intrigue, and incandescent passion. This book is not only a satisfying continuation of “The Soul-Linked Saga” for current fans, but also an addictive entre to the series for new readers.
Laura Jo Phillips is the Amazon best selling author of the genre-busting "Soul-Linked Saga" series of Fantasy/Romance/Adult/Science Fiction novels, and of the "Orbs of Rathira" trilogy, the the first volume of which was released in August 2012.
There is a lot of good action in this book and it takes a long while for the heroes and heroine to get together.
The romance takes a backseat to the plot of the series but the building of the mythology and the non romantic relationships are well done.
The misunderstandings between the love interests are lame and slow the relationship down in ways that annoy. However, the heroine has a cool psychic gift and the heroes are alien bear shifters which is cool and there are babies.
So, not my favorite but a good book in the overall series.
I have loved the Bearen brothers since they rescued Lariah then Saige. Happy to finally get to their story and was not disappointed. Sent to Earth with a prophecy to fulfill the are partnered with Ellecia, Lariah's sister. I so wanted her to be their Arima, but it wasn't to be. They find their Arima in Hope, Ellecia's partner's cousin, a Candy Bride, recently returned to Earth and now missing.
Ellecia and the Bearen brothers have an instant connection, with close siblings like feelings. She moves heaven and earth to find their Arima.
Hope is an artist with some physic talents. She had a strong pull to go to Jasan. Choosing to go as a Candy Bride. When her time was up without meeting the male set that felt right, she returns to Earth feeling frustrated and full of self doubt. Then the visions start of three men and strange creatures.
Hope is kidnapped by the Brethren. She escapes along with a few other women and is rescued by her cousins fiancé and the three men she has been dreaming of. The rescue ends in tragedy when Ellecia is fatally injury and she asks the Bearen brothers and Hope to raise her triplet sons.
Hope and the Bearen brothers struggle with their grief and worry over the triplet boys born to soon. While trying to deal with the Brethren threat. There are misunderstandings, and cultural clashes that threaten to pull them a part.
Hope exasperated me at times. I wanted better for my favorite male set. I was so proud of them finding a way to bridge their cultural beliefs and disappointed in Hope, who didn't even try to. She was so willing to just walk away from the Bearen's and the babies. While I am happy that the Bearen brothers are happy, I am mixed about Hope. When the brothers agreed to the Sentinel's terms on raising the babies, I fell a little more in love with them.
I liked the book, but not as much as the first three, I thought it had a lot going on at the same time and I was a bit disappointed by the main characters get to know almost in the middle of the book. I also was diappointed with Hope, I found her a bit annoying, always whining and full of doubts. I'm sorry, but I didn't like her. I would like a bit more of her if she had a stronger personality and was like a guardian of the traditions of Owlfen or something of the ancient greeks related to Owlfen, since her family kept record of women of the family and teach her greek. I love the Bearens brothers and was eager for them to find their Arima, but despite being disappointed with it ... I still love them. :)
Disappointed in her husband hunt, portrait artist and muralist (Hope Strigida/virgin) returns to Earth only to be kidnapped by Jasan’s enemies. Security chiefs/emissaries, shape-shifting (bearenca/bears), and magical male-set (Jackson, Clarkson, and Robson Bearson/nearly identical triplets) form brother-like bonds to tracker Ellicia Daniels, checking their blood-rage while searching for their kidnapped genetic mate. Ellicia and her finance Harlan Hontza, Hope’s relative, assist in recovery while ushering in a new era.
REC: Storyline with secondary story and flashbacks. If not for strength of character and loving times (warning: all orifices), Ellicia and Harlan would steal the show. Touching; worth the time.
A little disappointed with this one. The main characters didn't meet until nearly the middle of the book, then had nothing but discord until nearly the last page. Also, though this novel was considerably longer than the previous three, there was too much else going on with the sub plot, it was both frustrating and distracting. I know Phillips needed to move along the overall story arc, but maybe she tried to do too much in one book. It just detracted from the Bearens' story, which I had been anticipating since the first book. Sad to say the book I was most looking forward to reading was my least favorite offering in the series so far. Hopefully book 5 will be better.
This book took forever to get semi-good and then it took another dive and I had to force my way through it. I get it the guys are from another planet so English isn't their first language, but my gosh, even the the women start talking like their boyfriends with them all becoming "Actorman" without the arm movements. I didn't really like Hope, way too whiny and questioning every frickin' thing that happens. So why in the hell would these guys fall in love with that! I have another book in this series but I think I'll put this on the "read when I'm done with all my other books" list.
This is the first book int the series that I really really liked. I love the premise and plot/story line of each book so far but they all had big issues for me in the editing. Also, there were numerous 'didn't make sense' factors that bothered me. This book finally lived up to what I was hoping for in terms of writing and development. And yes, I cried, really truly cried, at one pivotal part of this book to which I'm still reeling from. Looking forward to the next book if only to see if I can stop crying.
probably that most in-depth book in the series so far! great twists and plot development (not much on the romance side but probably the best quadro so far) ;) overall, 5+ stars!
There was a bit of a tragic element in there, but it had a bittersweet feeling to it rather than a sad and depressing feel.
I liked this addition to the soul linked series but not as much as the previous books. It felt too long and there was a lot of switching between "scenes", as in who the story was about.
I also find that I'm not that interested in the Xanti scenes and just skim them. It hasn't affected my understanding of the story and then I get to focus on the jasan storylines.
I just did not love this. It was just okay. I did not like all the switching of different points of view. There was way too much jumping around. I did not like that it was jumping all the time. I liked the first book where the focus was on the main quad relationship. It was really annoying that the bearens did not have the whole book to themselves.
Different for sure, but it introduced karma and i enjoyed her book...waiting for the last two to karma's story eagerly.... Can't wait to read about the falconians and berta.
