It’s been a week since Logan Wright and her friends managed to defeat Samhain, the Lord of the Dead, and put an end to the death and destruction he caused in his relentless pursuit of her.
All has been quiet.
But it’s always quiet before a storm, and as the October wind picks up once more and red eyes peer from the darkness, it becomes clear that “Sam Hain” is far from finished. He’s after something precious, something that can only be found here, and he isn’t going to go away without it.
In this second installment of the pulse-pounding young adult series The October Trilogy, Logan and her companions face an enemy that has grown more powerful, more determined, and more dangerous in spades. Samhain, who has once more become Sam Hain the indomitable god-turned-vampire, has his mesmerizing sights set on Logan Wright, body and soul.
Nothing is going to sway him this time. He’s learned his lessons and adapted. Time is running out. And nothing is more deadly than a Death God on a schedule.

"Bad Boys, Bad Boys whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when they come for you"? Fight like your life depends on it and it does for Logan as time is running out. Sam is stalking her because he came to life through Logan who is a modern day bard and a spell that went horribly wrong and Meagan feels responsible. He has decided to take her back to his world and make her his queen. Sounds kind of romantic if not for the fact that he is Death itself and he would have to kill her first let alone the fact that she doesn't want to go with him. With the help of her friends and teacher who knows magic, Logan is trying to keep her friends alive long enough to be able to close the portal and trap Sam back in his world forever. Unfortunately for them, Sam has possessed a boy who is close to Logan and she does not see that he has been taken over so her enemy is now within her inner circle and she has no idea of his secret agenda. I must admit I did find this part a bit hard to believe as previously everyone was so focussed on trying to find Sam and the fact that his eyes were blue would be a dead give away yet when Logan noticed the changing eye colour, she did not make the connection. I am trying to not give too much away hence the vague references but I felt that she should have guessed but didn't until Sam revealed himself. I loved Katelyn's rally driving and Hugh's arrival certainly was well timed. Apart from that the story was fast paced and all the twists and turns kept me guessing. There is a huge cliff hanger ending which made me think "No that can't be right, how could he do that" and now I have to obsess over whether her friends can save her in time, where is book three Heather I need to know?
I downloaded Secretly Sam straight after reading the first book, as the cliff hanger had literally kept me hanging.....
I was not disappointed with the second instalment. It takes place a few days after with Sam Hain still trying to get Logan to go the land of the dead with him, but who does Logan and her friends need to be wary of? Because who is Secretly Sam?
I was on edge through the entirety, I very rarely read books about witches but I thought these books would be cool reads with Halloween only a few weeks away and just like Heather introduced werewolf books to me, she has now opened my eyes to books about witches and the spells that can entice you into the pages. The October trilogy takes all the things I now love and wraps them into one, vampires, werewolves and witches. One new character is introduced into Secretly Sam and I am really looking forward to seeing how he develops, just please do not make me wait until next October!!!!! ahhhhh!!!
I still do not know who I am routing for.... Sam / Dominic .......Sam / Dominic??????
As always another excellent job by Heather. Heather set the stage in Sam I Am (recommended to read first), with characters, places and time. Picks right up in Secretly Sam, keeping the story fast paced and well written. It's engaging, the plot twists are amazing you can't waite to find out whats happening next. "Logans brother is a one-man walking genocide and the Lord of the Dead wanted to kill Logan and take her to his land of darkness and despair." Right when I thought I figured it out a curved was thrown and now I can't waite for "Suddenly Sam" to come out. A great read, you won't be disappointed.
I'm torn on this book. On the one hand, I really enjoy the idea of the story. Halloween as a real, creature that is brought to our world as a god of the dead searching for his queen? Pretty epid. But I'm stqrti g to realize something about this writer: she uses too many words.
Really, I think she's maybe too much of a novice overall. She uses way more words than necessary, making the story drag. She has q bad habit of info dump and too much exposition. And in the end, the story idea is infinitely better than what ended up on the page.
Aleo, I feel like there needed to be more character growth. Just cause it's a sequel, doesn't mean you shouldn't have characters build and grow and change.
I'm not quite sure now why I loved book one so much, but this one was difficult to read. I just wanted it to be finished.
Ultimately , I wouldn't really recommend it. I want to, but can't.
This is the most ridiculous crap I have read since I read Twilight. All I feel from this author is her trying to hard to capture every fandom that has been successful in the past in her own story. I found the characters to be extremely annoying and unlike able. She also references Harry Potter far too much to be appropriate. I feel my IQ dropping ...
Heather is always able to take you to another world and Secretly Sam is no different... She takes you into a world where the paranormal is real and you have Hot Alpha males... There is no exception in Secretly Sam... You have to read Sam I am to know what is happening in this one... You have a gorgeous God of Death who was able to come from his realm to ours due to a mess up in a spell from a Witch who found the stories of a Bard " a writer " and became a manifestation of all of her Male paranormal's in her stories but takes up the Vampire persona... they thought they got rid of him in Sam I Am but he is no where near giving on the idea of having Logan as his Queen... Sam found a way to stay in our world and his quest to have Logan and takes over the one person that Logan wants most... In Secretly Sam we have Witches, a Bard, Wizards and Time Traveling Wizards, God of Death, Vampires, Hell Hounds and a Goblin. Not many Authors can bring in so many Paranormal's in one story and keep it interesting and also have you sitting on pins and needles anticipating the next book, but Heather is one amazing author and that's exactly what you will be doing... I know I am!
I wanted to rate this Trilogy higher but I did not like the ending. Sam was a pain in the A$Z! for all three books. He was Mean and Evil and Condescending. He threatened Logan, did awful things, and harmed her classmates as well as her friends. Sam had no redeeming qualities, NONE. I could not believe at the end of book 3, Logan says to herself that she was in love with Sam, Really? How? Why? WTF? I do not like that she had to make a deal with the devil to save her friends at the end of book 3. So, she is kissing Dom during the day and willingly dream sharing with Sam at night??? That seems like cheating to me..
I do not like how the witch, Ciara, did not have free will. She went through alot to escape Sam and in the end she ended up with him anyway. She cast a spell to avoid him, that.. should.. say.. something. I do not want to hear about FATE, that is BS!
There is nothing romantic about forced relationships and a stalker. This was not a romance story, it was a horror story... The author should have written a better ending.
So I finally read Sam I Am and wasn’t surprised at all that I found another Heather Killough-Walden series to become enamored with. Then I read Secretly Sam and I’m officially hooked. Wow! Talk about a roller coaster ride. Just when you think you know where this book is going everything gets turned upside down.
This is really a hard book to review. Mainly because I really don’t want to spoil it for anyone. Logan is thrown for a loop in Secretly Sam and not in a good way. The supporting characters in the series are front and center in this book and have as much to do with the action as Sam, Donovan and Logan.
The only bad part about this book is that I have to wait an entire year to find out what happens next. Yikes! Talk about cliff hangers. The perfect part about the wait is that I know what I’ll be reading next October. The October Trilogy is nothing if not the perfect Halloween read. If this doesn’t get you in the spooky, eery, Halloween holiday spirit, nothing will. Enjoy!
Sam, Logan, Dom ~ LOVE this series! I am a HUGE fan of Heather Killough-Walden and have only read her adult novels up to this point. There was no weirdness that this series tends to be more for the YA group and I was drawn into their stories just as quickly and deeply as I have been in her fabulous Big Bad Wolf series:)
As I read this story (and its predecessor, Sam I Am) I could literally see both being made into movies - so visual and Halloween themed - my favorite time of year! Highly recommend that you pick this up - only downside is that the 3rd will not grace us until October 2013:(
Really wish there was a 3 1/2 star, that's the rating I truly believe it should have. I can't give it a four because the storyline I felt was too similar and predictable to the first one. I do feel the last 6 chapters or so were the best of the storyline. I like the direction heather is headed for book three and I do look forward to reading it. Above all else, her writing is great, the way everything is described, truly gives you a mental picture. I really liked Secretly Sam, wish I could say love, but if you enjoy paranormal and vampires and witches and spells and romance, you will definitely like this series.
I had to stop reading this edge of your seat, heart -pounding book because my heart could NOT take it. Books two started almost right after the end of book one and with all Heather Killough Walden’s books… the bad guys...Well lets just say they aren’t weak and they are evil to the core. This book shot up my BP and I couldn’t take it yet I kept going back to it! I have read this book twice! The twist was mind blowing, unbelievable! The creativity and the thought put into the writing was utterly wicked. I can’t wait for the conclusion and Secretly Sam is a fitting name indeed! I really liked it… worth my time twice over and then some.
Wow. This being Book 2 of the Trilogy looses nothing. If you love Autumn, Halloween, vampires, magic, and the Idea of finding your soul mate, loosing him/her, best friends always being there to help and not giving up. Yes all of these things happen in this book and more.
This book is for everyone, and should be read along with Sam I Am (Book 1) also.
Heather is a great writer that puts a lot of herself in her books. She also does a lot of reach to make sure that everything is correct. Take a look at these and you be pulled right in . Have a great time when you read these.
Story was good but a lot more predictable than the first book with one or two exceptions. I enjoyed the read and while the storyline progressed I did not feel like the main characters developed or evolved more than what we learned in book one. The lesser characters of Logan's friends and teacher we learned more about but not Logan, Sam or Dom. That being said I do feel like this second book was more of a setup for the final installment of the trilogy so I am excited for the last book. Will be anxiously waiting for the third and final installment of the October trilogy.
This is a amazing series that I share with my children I can't wait for the third book to come out! Sam and Logan are wonderfully written characters that just draw you in. My daughter and i even made Sam and Logan bears as a tribute
Oh my goodness (it was that good)!! The book was longer than I was expecting but her words were not long winded. She did a great job in setting the scene, increasing and decreasing the suspense and I just kept turning and turning!!. I don't want to give away any spoilers but I was most definitely not expecting the ending. Now on to read book 3
I had a little trouble at first in reading this book but only because it took so long for this one to come out after the first one. But once I remembered the characters, it was finished in a couple of hours. Another great read by Heather Killough-Walden!
So much amazing in this book! I really cannot at this stage see how the story is going to end. Part of me secretly hopes that Samhain will emerge victorious...this is one book where you definitely can't help but fall for the villain <3
I highly recommend the October trilogy. Halloween is my all time favorite and these books capture the essence and spirit so well and spin it into a story so captivating I was unable to stop reading until I had read them all!
I loved the first book "Sam I Am" and I was not desappoiment, she did it again wonderful story, can't wait till the next one. I totaly recommend you will enjoy it!
