I liked the premise of the story, specially since there aren’t as many dragon shifter paranormal books. However, this was too short....I would’ve liked a longer more developed story

It's been 10 years since Misty has been to the Isle of Frealon, the shapeshifter world where she once made her home. 10 years since she last saw Rafe, the man she loved... The man who banished her to the human realm. Misty is an empath and Rafe is a dragon shifter. Their kinds aren't supposed to mate. But she would have given anything to spend her life in his arms. Rafe thought her sacrifice would be too great. Once a woman mates with a Draco, she has only 20 years left to live. He forced her to leave, so that she could live a long life and find happiness without him.

Now, the Draco queen needs help. The stone which is the source of their strength has been stolen. She needs Misty's empathetic powers to flush it out. Of course, Rafe will be her guard on her mission. Seeing him again brings all the old feelings back. And being with Misty is a dream come true for Rafe. He refused to take a mate after she left and now he's dying as a result. He wants nothing more than to spend his last days with the woman he loves. The two must work together to save Rafe's people, while dealing with their unresolved feelings for one another.

I liked the story. It was sexy and the fact that these two have a history makes it easy to get right down to business. My only complaint is that Misty gets over her anger and hurt awfully fast. 10 years is a long time to live in exile. But I'm a sucker for Dragon shifters. Though he's a bit of a martyr, Rafe is verra sexy. There's a great heat factor and a sweet romance here.

The book's not too deep. After all, it's less than 100 pages. But I thought the world-building was interesting, the love story was satisfying, and the sex was hot. I hope Kristen Miller revisits this world again so I can go along for the ride.

It was a good story. I enjoyed the characters and the story line.

But there were a few things that didn’t work for me.

I didn’t understand the attitude by the queen at the end. Misty never turned Rafe away. But the queen acted as though Misty were selfish in not letting Rafe choose her as a rider. And shouldn’t the queen have been thankful to Misty after what she just accomplished?

For me personally, I prefer my Heroes to be Alpha and all “you’re mine, you will stay with me, I will find a way to keep you alive because I am just that awesome!” I’m not much into the martyr for a Hero. It wasn’t attractive. I hate that Misty was the one continually fighting for them.

But these were very minor parts of the overall story. The story was about them reuniting and falling in love all over again, or really just allowing themselves to feel that love again. Rafe was a really sweet guy, and it was easy to forgive him after you heard his side of the story. This all happened while they journeyed together to find the stolen Drakos stone. The stone that was the power and life source of all the Drakos. It was a big deal to get this back to the queen, which is why her attitude was so surprising at the end.

I don’t know whether it is very poorly written or it is just not my type but overall I didn’t like it.

Very nice plot, fast paced. I have not read very much of this author but was pleased with her writing. I love most paranormal romances that I read, it is just my genre. Will give her another try.

First Sentences: " 'How long she been out?' Misty Burke teetered on the edge of consciousness, struggling to separate the syllables of the gravelly voice. Who was that? Where was she? And why couldn't she open her eyes?"A great opening! Though I'm usually one for heavy action openings, I enjoyed these first lines. They drew me in without jarring me out of my seat. And when the heroine, Misty, was asking questions, so was I. I was able to relate easily to her, and the hero, Rafe, was immediately appealing.

Brownie Points: The sexual tension in this novella was hot hot hot! The heat level hits the ground running and it was interlaced perfectly with the conflict, which was established in the first few pages. I loved the set up of Misty and Rafe's previous relationship--young love. The history between them served perfectly for a novella. Misty's character is strong-willed and I liked that when she returned to the Isle of Feralon she wasn't willing to take any b.s from Rafe. Although Rafe is bull-headed (in a sexy way, of course), I loved that not only is Misty his soft spot, but he is willing to put aside his pride and humble himself in order to re-express his love for her. The world-building in this novella was also fantastic! The world was extremely well-developed and very detailed. I can't wait to revisit the Isle of Feralon in the next novella!

Beefs: I didn't have many beefs with the story. Though the novella was immediately hot, I wanted more time before Misty and Rafe did the sideways-tango, though when they did, it was smokin' lol! Their connection happened very soon after they were reunited and I would've liked some more time. Granted, the constraint of a novella lends for the sexy times being a bit early, so I suppose you could say I wanted this to be a novel, not a novella--which shows how much I liked it! I also wanted to see the transformation of Misty's feelings more before she decides to trust Rafe again, even though she reassures herself that it's purely physical.

Ending: I won't give the ending away, but I was thoroughly satisfied, though I wish it hadn't ended. I'm very much looking forward to Forbidden by Fate, the second novella in the series.

Recommendation and General Comments: Overall, I really enjoyed this novella. It was a quick and enjoyable read, and I was sucked into a very magical world that still felt very real. There was no shortage of romance and the story was definitely hot to match.

This novella is a great read, and the story is perfect if you want something fast-paced and intriguing. This would be the perfect read whilst traveling or even just at home one lazy afternoon--if you want to escape somewhere magical, Claimed by Desire is for you. I enjoy Kristin Miller's work and I think these novellas show even more growth in her already talented abilities. I'm a big fan of the Isle of Feralon!

Ten years prior, a broken hearted Misty was banished from the one place she considered home, the Isle of Frealon, is forced to leave the one man she has ever loved, a Draco, and abandon her dreams of becoming Rafe’s Rider (mate) behind. Misty before banishment had been one of the best empaths to explore and map out the territories between the Merfolf, werewolves and Dragons . Now she is brought back to help find the Draco stone which is the source for the Draco’s powers and the longer it's gone the weaker they become.

Rafe had banished the only woman he ever loved. Being a Draco ,also known as a dragon shifter, the life of their riders aren't long and he wanted more for her. Now that she is back he would do anything to protect her and he the happiest he has been since sending her away. Along the mission they are on he is hoping to make her see it was always about what was best for her and he never meant to hurt her, but he thought it was better for her to fulfill her dreams by the banishment. Though Rafe hasn't claimed a Rider, which causes consequences he isn't willing to let on to but is a matter of life and death . Instead, he wants to make the best of the time they now have reunited.

Let me just say first, some of my favorite stories are about shifters. Throw that in with smexy Rafe: your emerald eyed, dark haired, broad bodied, guy who has green flecks under his eyes the same shade as his dragon form, can you say Yummmm? Top that with his banter, and love for Misty, and it's bound to make you fall in love with him too. He knew when to tease and bait her, as well as showing his love and tender feelings. There was a few times I wanted to shake him as well for not letting Misty have her say in what she wanted rather than what he thought best. Misty is a strong woman who knows what she wants. Even though she was hurt, she was loyal enough to put past hurts behind with the same goal in mind. And when she gives her heart she gives it all. Since the characters have previous history it was easy to get into the story right in the thick of it which i love when you’re dealing with shorts. Miller has created an amazingly beautiful world that had me wanting to know more about each species so it will leave a good opening for books to come and characters were interested in seeing more of

The passion between Misty and Rafe is hot. You can tell the love between the characters is so strong you couldn't help but root for it to keep going forward. This short had all the workings of a great story. There was love lost and found again, sex that sizzles, some action and intrigue to the world Miller built. I quite enjoyed my journey into the Isle of Frealon and can't wait to visit again.

My favorite paranormal beings are shifters. I love all types of shifters. Claimed by Desire has a gorgeous emerald green eyed dragon shifter with sexy-cool green freckles that matches his color when he is in dragon form. Yep, Rafe is hot! Rafe and his entire race are also dying. The Draco stone that provides them with their life force has been stolen. The longer the stone is away from the entire Draco race the more they weaken.

Misty was banished from the Isle of Frealon by the only man she’s ever loved ten years ago. Her heart was broken by his banishment. It prevented her from becoming the rider (mate) of the Draco she loved. Now she’s been called back to the place she once called home. She’s been called back to assist Rafe with the mission that will save his entire race.

Novella length books work best for me when the couple knows each other for from the very beginning. Rafe and Misty don’t only know each other, they share a past. They share an intimate past that has left them heartbroken in the time they were apart. The road to their happily ever after is not an easy one. Rafe must take one of his own kind as a rider. Misty is an empath, not one bit of Draco blood in her body. Their love is forbidden and their forever seems out of reach so many times.

The world Kristin has created in Claimed by Desire is vividly beautiful. She takes her readers on a sky ride above the Isle of Feralon between the wings of a dragon. The boundaries of Feralon are divided among the Draco, werewolves, and merfolk inhabit the water. The descriptions of her merfolk are astonishing. I would have loved some more page time with them.

My only complaint is that I wanted more. I wanted more of the world. I want to know more about this race of dragons that live amongst merfolk and werewolves. I wanted more of Misty and Rafe. These two really heat up the pages while they are rekindling the love that both of them missed and dreamed about for so long. Needless to say I’m looking forward to the next book, Forbidden by Fate out July 1.

Portals from our world to the Isle of Feralon – land of shifters (dragon, wolf, mermaid)… to the Castle Arcane…

Misty Burke empath – Rafe Landon (dragon changeling)… her kind allowed on the island by all three, and they mapped it… x number of years earlier, Misty and Rafe fell in love, but Rafe knew that if he mated her, and she became his rider, that her frail body would die in 10 years, so he sent her away…
But, The dragon’s stone is missing… and they bring Misty back to find it…pairing her with Rafe… they are still drawn together as they set out to locate the stone… and as he has not taken a mate, he will die in a few days… they reconnect, they love, he is still planning to send her away… they find the stone, and she channels the power of the stone, giving her the power to mate the dragon shifter… ahhhh

Reading the blurb I was excited to explore the new alternate-universe of the Isle of Feralon! I loved the the new idea of an entire culture of shifters living parallel to our own. The imaginative world, species traits and "rules" were a welcome fresh view into para-romance. While I loved the "new world" the romance for me was lacking, I think due to the fact that the novella length didn't give the right opportunity to paint the picture. Not enough for me to fall for Rafe or cheer on Misty. I'm hoping to get more story and back story from the other installments. But with all the promise this story-line holds it still earns 4 stars from me. Kudos to Miller for creating a world I would love to visit!!

Dragon shifters...rawr! Kristin Miller is fast becoming one of my favorite authors! Claimed by Desire packs a huge punch in a short amount of pages. Hot, hot, hot! Rafe and Misty's chemistry is off the charts, and I felt connected to both them, and their love story from the very beginning.

If you're looking for a great paranormal romance with fresh characters and smoking hot chemistry, then Claimed by Desire is for you. A definite must read!
