I was raised in Alabama, so I know we Southerners don't hide our crazy people—we showcase them. Eccentric people make for the best stories, and we Southerners do love our stories. The need to tell stories has been a driving force in my life from childhood.
As a girl, my favorite books were mysteries and romances. When I realized there were books that featured both romance and mystery, I knew I'd found my calling. Now I get to play both matchmaker and murderer and get paid for it. Could there be a better job anywhere?

What can you say but Wow for Paula Graves and her wonderful series Cooper Security Series. I finished up Secret Assignment boo #11 in this series and it was a fast pace and increadable read that I want more to read in this series.
Very good book. Shannon had been sent to Nightshade Island to archive the late general's papers. She was immediately drawn in to helping foil an attack on the island by people looking for something the general had. Gideon had been asked by the general to protect his wife, and was serving as caretaker on the island. He didn't want Shannon there as he thought she was just someone else for him to have to protect. When it became obvious that she was an asset, they started to actually cooperate with each other and made some progress. I loved the part in the diner when she was able to get a lot of information in a short time, and how impressed Gideon was with her. Gideon and Shannon were also attracted to each other. Gideon felt that he couldn't give in to it because he was afraid he was like his father, who abused and killed Gideon's mother. Shannon was attracted to Gideon, but hesitated to do anything about it because she didn't want it distracting her from her first opportunity to work in the field. I loved the way that Shannon brought out the best in Gideon and showed him that he was nothing like his father. I also loved the way that Gideon showed Shannon that he had confidence in her abilities. That confidence came through in the final showdown when he trusted her to do what needed to be done. I'm looking forward to the next two books and the resolution of the mystery - and seeing Jesse find his own destiny.
My only complaint isn't with the story but with the editors at Harlequin, who can't seem to get it through their heads that Marine is ALWAYS capitalized...
The stories dealing with the Cooper family are amazing. They are all heroes ad heroines and willing to do whatever is necessary for home and for country. On the track of a covert group, each story takes them closer and closer to the ones behind the crimes and yet any of the stories can be read in any order and be understood and appreciated. They just keep getting better and better. In Secret Assignment, Shannon is the youngest in her immediate family and has been protected. She has now proven she does not need that protection. Gideon is no longer in the military but those skills honed by service are needed here. Fast-paced and action-packed, Secret Assignment shows how every hero deserves his heroine as well as the reverse. Don’t miss Secret Assignment by Paula Graves. It will capture you on page one and not let go until the very last word.
In Graves’ romantic suspense novel, Shannon Cooper was sent to Nightshade Island on a security mission, but soon finds she simply can’t accomplish her assignment without the help of one Gideon Stone. The former soldier is more than a caretaker, but powerful enough to ignite some serious feelings within her that goes far beyond desire. Former special ops, Gideon finds himself protecting Shannon from deadly mercenaries. As a storm builds, it mirrors the passion rising within him, and Gideon will do anything to survive so that he can explore a relationship with Shannon.
A fast-paced, action packed installment to the Cooper Security series.
Shannon Cooper went to Nightshade Island to archive General Ross' papers. She had a feeling there was more to the mission then meet the eye. When masked Men try to invade the island she works with Gideon Stone to try to uncover what the men are after & to keep Mrs. Ross safe.
This was a GREAT book. It was a page turner that kept you reading to make sure everyone was safe & to find out what the masked men were after.
Paula Graves has a new avid Reader, I'm adding her to my MUST read list!
A very nice hero (one whole extra star is added here just for him), with a cool locale, but the series stuff and related spy mumbojumbo was total Greek to me, and crowded out any real romance. A pity, since I liked the few bits that weren't related to the over-arching conspiracy plot running through what must be 100 Cooper-family books by now (or just feels like it). Not recommended at all if you're not a fan of the series, as it flounders as a stand-alone work.
I read this book awhile back, and loved it! The suspense kept me holding my breath as I kept turning the pages. I can see me re reading this book later on.
