Seeking revenge, Pride is headed back to the compound where she was once nearly broken to the will of an evil master. She’ll stop at nothing to free the enslaved wolves still caged in the estate’s underground prison. Knowing there is only one way back inside the fortified mansion, Pride allows herself to be captured.
Armed with a plan, she finds herself back in her cage but when things begin to unravel, she once again finds herself at the mercy of her former master. This time, however, she knows she has two wolves on her side, Logan and Stone—powerful alphas who will both fight to the death to free her.
Except the compound hides secrets that threaten both her heart and her identity and when bonds are tested and bloodlines are revealed, Pride realizes if she completes her mission she’ll be releasing her pack into a world where no one, least of all Pride, is safe. Show More Show Less
The second installment in the A Wolf’s Pride series continues to build upon the raw animal instincts and amazing characters from the first book while adding new elements that really take this story to the next level. The love triangle between Pride, Stone and Logan grows more complex and has many similarities with the one found in the Nightshade trilogy. In Pride Unleashed, shocking truths are unveiled, sacrifices are made, and battle lines are drawn. I enjoyed this book slightly less than Pride’s Run because all of the action unfolds in the compound instead of in the outside world which somewhat limited the wolfish goodness but still a solid installment.
I admire Pride’s spunk and determination; after having escaped a life in captivity she still finds the courage to go back and confront her master in the hopes of freeing her pack mates. When others would have run for the hills and never looked back, this werewolf goes head to head with her biggest fears. Even though her original plan backfires she doesn’t lose heart but instead concocts a new and improved one. This seventeen year old girl puts most adults to shame with her strength and refusal to give up. Young adult authors should take notes; this is how teenage heroines should be portrayed instead of the typical ditzy story lines. Kalen’s descriptive writing style really brings her characters to life. I can’t imagine that it’s easy writing an entire book that’s based out of a single location while still keeping the plot interesting but Cat not only pulls it off but kills it!
The battle of wills between the two alpha males is intense and all consuming; both have good qualities but I still haven’t picked a favorite. In Pride’s Run, Logan was the clear winner. He taught Pride how to use her small size to her advantage and that her human half is just as much a part of her as her wolf. I wish that Kalen would have explored Stone’s past a little bit more in this installment. I know there’s “something” about him and it’s obvious that he cares deeply for the shewolf but without more to go on it’s hard to pick a team. I found many similarities between these two alphas and Ren/Shay from the Nightshade trilogy. I absolutely loved this series so it’s no surprise that I’m quickly falling for A Wolf’s Pride too. I’m leaning toward Stone at the moment but that could very well change with the next installment.
Pride Unleashed is exquisitely written, the action is fierce and I’m crazy about Cat Kalen’s werewolves! Good things come in threes and this trilogy is scheduled to wrap-up in the winter of 2012 with Pride’s Pursuit.
Wow, I am really loving this trilogy. Pride Unleashed is book two in the A Wolf’s Pride series. In the first book we saw Pride escape her Master’s clutches and the compound and go on the run with Logan, the rogue wolf she was tracking. Pride Unleashed takes place three weeks later, with Pride and Logan, and some of his pack back at the compound with a plan for rescue and release of the other wolves.
Oh, Pride, if only it were that easy. *sigh*. Ok, I love Pride. She is such a good role model for teen girls…heck, for everyone. She has flaws, she has doubts, and she has very real fears. But she presses on because she knows what’s right is right, and the things that are wrong she tries to make right. Pride had freedom in her paws; she was out and in Canada with her mate. She could have lived her life out and had some beautiful little puppies and no one could really fault her. But she knew The Master was still abusing and neglecting wolves at the compound. She had to go back.
For those who may not have yet picked up on Cat Kalen’s wolves, they are very much more wolf than human. When they are in their human form they are constantly in touch with their wolf, and the wolf inevitably wants to show themselves and take control of every and all situations. When you read her books you don’t feel like this is the story of a hot girl and a hot guy who happen to change in to wolves. Nope, you really feel these are wolves that happen to change into human form. I really love that. There’s a very natural and real feel to all of the wolves in this series.
At the end of Pride’s Run, Stone lead the Paranormal Task Force away from Pride so that she can escape. In book two she is ecstatic to find out he is alive – and saddened to see he is in the compound. I totally understand this. I flip flop between Logan and Stone, I want her to clone herself so each version of her can have each of these guys. I did see another review that said something about wanting to see more history on Stone. I totally agree! He is such an awesome character, there is such a story behind all of his actions, and we are just not getting it in the Pride series. Cat – when you see this, let me tell you the people are asking for a spin off series! Ha-ha J Nothing like pressure, right?
So Pride is back at the compound and just nothing is going the way it was planned. And there is an addition of a new type of shifter that I find incredibly interesting, and I would love a second spin off series about them. But I am not telling you who they are, that would be a spoiler (wink). Cat, I think you are going to be very busy!!
The first book was about freedom and realizing her true potential. This book is more about her history, and what has been kept and hidden from her. There are some huge secrets in this book that come out, some things I totally did not see coming. And I also loved the edge-of-your-seat moments. There were definitely moments where I was ready to curse the written word if this or that happened ha-ha. The bottom line is this book has several really great characters that are rich with personality and history, and you can’t help but want to get to know them all. May I also suggest a third spin-off series of Logan’s pack here? I can’t help it! I want to know more! Cat Kalen’s style of writing really clicks with me, and I love the flow. There was no point where I got bored or felt like skimming pages. I was interested and invested in this story right from the first page.
So if my gushing hasn’t convinced you yet, let me be blunt – start reading this series. It’s a great blend of Paranormal and YA, on top of a great mystery and just a lot of fun to read.

After reading my review of her book Pride’s Run, Cat Kalen decided to send me it’s sequel in hopes that I would enjoy it as much as I had the original. And she was successful!! Cat Kalen, once again, stole my heart with her newest book in A Wolf’s Pride Series, Pride Unleashed. I was hooked from the time I opened the book till the time I turned the last page. My favorite thing about Cat’s writing style is her ability to project the characters emotions into the reader. Most authors attempt this, but instead only manage to confuse readers. Thankfully, I have never had this problem when reading Cat’s books. In fact, her words are powerful.
This installment begins two weeks after the original ended. After living in Canada for a short time, Pride has returned to her master’s estate to free the rest of her pack with the help of Logan and his family. In order for her plan to succeed, she has to convince her former master that she is still loyal to him. Among trying to trick her master, she must also try to keep clam while Logan is being held as a prisoner.
Even more problems arise when she quickly finds out that things are very different from the way she left them. New pack members have been enslaved and the old members resent Pride for leaving. And as if things couldn’t get more stressful, Pride has to deal with the constant animosity between her mate and Stone which only grows worse when the truth behind Pride and Stone’s mental bond is revealed.
The drama between Pride, Stone, and Logan was my favorite part of the entire story. In my opinion, a love triangle always makes for a good story. Add werewolves, and it’s bound to be a tremendous emotional ride. Cat is becoming one of my favorite authors. Her attention to detail is addicting and enthralling. And as I said in my last review “as long as she keeps writing, I’ll keep reading”.
I loved this book! I read another review that said it seemed rushed, I totally disagree. I think the pacing was just fine. The trek Pride and Logan take seemed to take just as long as it should have. I have a few opinions and insights to offer :)
While I think Logan is a far better match for Pride than Stone, I wish that there was a bit more development on the story line about Stone and Pride before she was sent on her last mission. Only to build up more about their relationship. We only saw glimpses of what Stone did to try to save Pride, and what he was going to give to get her free.
I look forward to more in this series! I sincerely hope the author works more on laying out the Canadian wolf cultures and traditions. I'd also like to hear about other compounds and enslaved packs. I feel like the introduction to Logan's pack/family should have been more drawn out. The feeling of family and feeling SAFE and protected by Logan and his free family should have been made more apparent. Especially as Pride's life-long experience with other wolves in captivity was so negative. Her eventual trust of Logan was perfect, I loved all of it and the pace it went was great.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves this paranormal/werewolf genre. This isn't anything like other werewolf books I've read to-date. Happily, it's quite different. I couldn't put it down! I think if the author is very clever she can use this baseline book to write many, many more. I so hope she does!
Oh, and of course I hope for LONGER reads too. :D If I'm going to leave a review, I want to lay it all out on my avaricious need for big thick volumes of books! Speaking up for my fellow avid readers who love this genre. Though I have to say reading so much paranormal teen or young adult wasn't my intention. There is some really good stuff if you but look.
I have mixed feelings about this book. The first one in the series was quite good and this one felt lacking. I'm not really sure what it was lacking, but it felt like it was. There's not much action, perhaps. The story doesn't advance much because the vast majority of the story is the main character angsting and trying to deal with her feelings for both of the alphas in her life.
There's a lot of tension, but it feels like very little happens. For a book with a page count of under 200, it shouldn't drag, but it does. Finding out more about the compound was neat, but I would have liked to be introduced to more of the wolves there. The 'twists' were interesting, if a but expected. All in all, this was an alright continuation of the story. I hope to see something with a bit more story in the next book.
Giving only 3 stars to Pride Unleashed. While I did enjoy this installment,Pride Unleashed came across as more of a Part Two to Pride's Run,/i>, rather than a true book two. (If that makes sense) It was shorter than Pride's Run, and I feel the plot was less developed and centered mostly around Pride and her internal struggle with feelings of guilt for putting everyone in harms way and her new uncertainty over her feelings for both Stone and Logan.
With that being said, I will definitely read book three, Pride's Pursuit. Pride Unleashed did introduce some new and interesting elements to Pride's world and ended with a cliffhanger. So I feel the need to know what happens next!
Pride comes back to her master's place to free the people who are captured. But the plan with which she came is not easily done and now all her people are in danger.
And the troubles are doubled when she sees there's some new danger lurking outside helping her master, logan's pack is in trouble and there is no escape.
But pride uses every inch of her strength to come past secrets, lies, betrayal and fights..but what if the enemy is ur own?
I loved reading it and when i got to know about stone n her (though i guessed a little)i was surprised..and i am waiting to see what she will do!
I am waiting for the next one ..now pride's life is more troubled as it's matter of her species entire existence that's at stake. Sri.
Now there's the awaited clash of the alphas! It just didn't show who was more powerful, but that might be seen in the next book. I wonder who's side I'm in? I mean, Stone has been doing cruel things to her in order to protect her ever since and Logan is the nice guy type but still overprotective, though he's MORE open-minded than Stone and lets Pride make her own decisions.
Pride is a naive girl, but it doesn't stop her from making decisions and plans. Even though she made fatal mistakes, she bounces back instead of wallowing and not doing anything. The ending for this book amazed me. She didn't let revenge turn her into a heartless killer like her master. And what do you know! PTFs can be good (Is that PTF under her master's payroll?) I wonder if they will be able to form alliances.
What a thrilling sequel! It’s a gripping page-turner.
I love Pride as a character; I enjoy reading from her perspective and seeing her grow and find herself. There are so many different kinds of relationships and they are all complex in a way that makes them believable. There are some unexpected twists in the story that had me going through a plethora of emotions. I never saw things coming! I loved how unpredictable this book was. I am amazed at how the author can convey certain events in the compound without giving you a play by play. Overall, the writing is really good.
This was a great addition to the story! I wish the last book was out so I could find out how it all ends. I'm a little disappointed that there was a love triangle introduced... Blah!! I do wish the story hadn't taken that turn bc too many books already have them. I guess I'll just try to be patient and wait it out to see how that aspect of the story ends up. Overall, I thought the second book added a lot to the story and the world outside the compound. It makes you realize that breaking free is just the beginning. Anyhow, this was a fun read and I'll be looking forward to the next book!
This second book continued on from the first installment, some of the things written in these two books were thought provoking to say the least and I wondered about the abuses we are entertained by everyday. I enjoyed reading Prides story I only have 1 negative about it and that's the author was repetitive with her explanations it was almost like you were not expected to get it straight away she had to explain it 2 more times just to be sure. But still a good read.
I enjoyed this second installment to the Wolf's Pride series, but I thought it was not as intense as the first. This second story didn't sit well with me. What is it with love triangles and 'the whole thing is my fault so I must endanger everyone around me by trying to single handily set things right' teen plots??? Where the first book was unpredictable, the second wasn't as much. Still a good read though.
Cat Kalen again has stolen my heart with her newest book in A Wolf’s Pride Series, Pride Unleashed. I was hooked from the time I opened the book till the time I turned the last page. I look forward to more in this series! This was full of twist. There were somethings that I was NOT expecting.. I can' wait until the last one is published. Pride deserves a happy ending after all the pain and misery she's been put through!!
This book is part of a three book series. I felt the first book had such an abrupt ending and decided to read all three books in the series before writing a review. Each of the three books is quite short, not one tops 200 pages. This is the middle story in the trilogy. It does a reasonably decent job of not falling into the trap that middle books sometimes fall into -- having the "spinning wheels" feeling. I didn't love it but as quick, fun read.
This book, like the first in the series was a page turner for me. It's fast paced and gripping. You feel for Pride as she struggles with her choices and the burden of others fate she has placed on her young shoulders. Interesting to read how she learns to accept herself, the love of others, and to trust and forgive.
This sequel felt rushed and, given that I read it in only an hour and a half, was more of a novella. I still like Pride's spunk, but am not loving the change in relationship dynamics with some of the characters. I'll read the next in the series when it comes out and only hope that it's MUCH longer and gets some of the kinks worked out.
3.5I wish I could give this one more stars, and maybe after I read number 1 I might be able too.
I do love Pride! With all she faces she is still strong and sound minded. There are a few parts that I didn’t see coming from a mile away. I’m thinking that if you have a thing for strong woman who can shift into a wolf then you got your book :)
Pride Unleashed is full of twist. There were somethings that I was NOT expecting. Cat did a wonderful job of raising different questions that you would not normally come up with. I can' wait until the last one is published. Pride deserves a happy ending.
my only complaints: in the ending...how close is that mountain top/meeting place?! Because that time it takes to get there and it being a mountain TOP! And then the epilogue was rushed beyond belief! I have a lot to say about it but then I would spoil so you'll just have to read it yourself;)
