BeSwitched Witch

Rate this book
When sassy black cat, Surla, ends up crossing paths with her ex-witch, the outrageous and hot-tempered Idis, it triggers again the curse of being BeSwitched.

Idis was supposed to be dead in a drawer at the morgue, and Surla was supposed to be having some bonding time with her new human best friend, Cathy. Instead, these two enemies are forced to get along while in search of the last spell book, or stay switched forever. If only the curious and handsome new guy in school, Jax Morreau, would stop distracting Surla from their plan.

Back to high school and Beswitched

The second book is good! It's a continuation from the first book. I absolutely love it although this book had me guessing until the end as I didn't know the motives of father and son but definitely a good read a d recommended to all. Definitely more laugh out moments and the characters are realistic.

Great

I enjoyed this second book of the series. Of course not as much as the first, but it was good. I look forward to reading the next book. The characters are just charming!

My original review was posted at: http://www.booksbiscuitsandtea.com/20...

Idis, a hot-tempered witch, was prnounced dead Halloween night. Her runaway cat, Surla, has a horrific premonition-come-true, when Idis escapes the morgue and then a mental hospital. These two enemies unexpectedly cross paths in the woords, triggering the curse of being BeSwitched.

A powerful opportunity comes with Surla switching bodies with her witch. She can dominate the now little black furball, giving her an education, teaching her patience and taking the shrewd to the salon for a fun makeover.

The two go to high school together, when Surla passes as a teenage girl with a little help from magic. When Surla is magnetically drawn to the curious new guy, Jax Morreau, she is infatuated. Could ravens, coffins, or a cursed ring keep Surla away from her invitation to the Morreau Family Reunion at Lake Sequoia? An ancient mystery will be revealed but at what cost?

If you've read my review of BeSwitched, book 1 in the BeSwitched series then you might remember that it took me a while until I got into the story. BeSwitched Witch in this respect was a pleasant surprise - since I was familiar with the characters and the writing style, I managed to get into the story quite quickly.

BeSwitched Witch is an action filled read for the younger generation - the story focuses on Idis, the witch who is trapped in her cat's body and Surla, her cat who is trapped in the witch's body, as the two of them are desperately trying to find the last remaining Spellbook. (a book without which they can't switch their bodies back) Snow introduces a couple of new characters in the second instalment of the series, a school bully called Brad, a young and extremely handsome boy called Jax, his father and grandfather. I really liked the new characters and I think it made the story even more intriguing.

The only reason why I "only" gave this book 3 stars (which is a fairly good rating, mind you) is that I still feel that the writing style could be much better. Based on the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed the plot itself and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series, it could even get 4 or 5 stars if it wasn't for the style. I always try to compare each book to the other books I've previously read from the same genre and I still feel like it's a bit lukewarm. I've read middle-grade and young adult books with much more sophisticated and eloquent style before so that's the only reason why I'm not fully satisfied with this series. Maybe it's just me, I don't know.

Other than that, I would definitely recommend that you pick up a copy - the plot certainly makes up for the lack of eloquence and you'll find yourself not wanting to put it down. I'm looking forward to book 3!

****Contains Spoilers if you have not read BeSwitched-the first book in the series*******

This is a sequel to the first book BeSwitched I reviewed on Monday here. BeSwitched Witch is a completely different book. As you might have guessed, at the end of BeSwitched, Cathy and Surla switch back and Surla is a black cat once again. (I told you there would be spoilers!) In a showdown with Idis at the end of BeSwitched, Idis was thought to have died in a fire and is in the drawer in the morgue when BeSwitched Witch begins. Surla can't quite believe it, to be rid of Idis who always treated her so badly. Meanwhile, Idis wakes up, gets out of the drawer and is being chased by a security guard at the morgue and tased in the butt!

Then one day, Surla accidentally crosses paths with Idis who is very much alive and has escaped the mental hospital they put her in when she told them she was a witch. Once again Surla is BeSwitched, this time taking over Idis' body and Idis becomes Surla, the cat. Now it's Idis' turn to learn what it's like to be a cat. Surla enjoys being a teenager with her friend Cathy and they give Idis' body a makeover including an embarrassing pedicure and extensions. Then they work some magic on her beak nose and she's a beautiful young teenage girl. Magically Idis, the cat, is allowed to go to school with Surla where she becomes infatuated with the new boy who always seems to be in trouble.

There was absolutely nothing predictable about this book. Finding a finger in a fish with an old ring on it. Curses making people sick. Flying frog guts in the science class all over the teacher. Fights with jocks. Visits to the principal's office. Bad boy crushes. Shape shifters. Warlocks. There just wasn't any guessing where this story was going. I was caught up as soon as the switch happened and Idis started reaping what she'd been sowing for 300 years! Then things got really interesting. It was never ending action and the ending was a cliff hanger!! I'm hoping Molly already has the next book written. This was a quick fun read and these stories are becoming highly addictive!

This one was perfectly acceptable for any MG or YA reader. No bad words, no sex, just some light romance and some pranks. And of course magic!

Book 1, BeSwitched, was mainly about Cathy, the human who crossed paths with Surla the black cat and, according to legend, caused cat and human to switch bodies (Think Freaky Friday with a teen and a cat vs. a teen and her mom). There were many typical teenage scenarios and learning experiences.

Book 2, BeSwitched Witch, starts off a bit differently. Cathy and Surla have finally been able to switch bodies and are back to being inside their respective skin; Cathy is human and Surla is feline. Idis was supposedly killed in the explosion that ended book 1 and Cathy and Surla were now able to live quietly together not having to worry about looking over their shoulders for a crazy witch. That is until Surla goes chasing after Cathy and inadvertently crosses paths with Idis--who's apparently not dead--and the 2 of them switch places.

On the quest to find the only other Book of Spells (the one that Idis had was destroyed in book 1), Idis, Surla, and Cathy come upon a warlock and his son. Jax and the now-human Surla hit it off and it proves to be quite the distraction. Meanwhile, Cathy and her boyfriend, Todd, who don't appear as much in this installment, stumble across an antique ring with a unique symbol while on a fishing trip. As Cathy gets sicker and sicker throughout the book, Surla and Jax discover that the ring belonged to Jax's grandfather and it is cursed; causing illness to plague the wearer that is not of the family line.

Jax is one of my favorites and he's very likeable. He has a wacked out dad (but who hasn't said that about their parents at one time or another in their lives?!) that just seems creepy. Ms. Snow wrote Mr. Morreau perfectly especially when you read the book and find out what role he really plays within the novel. Surla and Idis finally get a really good look at the way each of them lives and you see them grow and appreciate things much better. Cathy, as I said, doesn't play a huge part in Book 2 but her appearances were well staged.

As with Book 1, Book 2 ends on a cliffhanger....and yes, I have Book 3 and will be reviewing it on June 19 along with having the wonderful author as a guest on the blog. Stay tuned.....

Another great book by Molly Snow. Suitable for middle grade ages and up.

MY REVIEW
This book is BK 2 in the Beswitched Series by Molly Snow. It is aimed at the middle grade aged children to young teens. It is once again a funny tale about surla the cat switching with someone else.this time Srla switches with Idis, much to Idis' distaste. Idis hates her life as a cat and seems to begin to understand how badly she had treat Surla. Will it make Idis truly change her ways? Who knows lol.
So now Surla gets to experience school with Cathy instead of as Cathy as she did in BK1.
Cathy is however very caught up with her now boyfriend Todd. So surla still ends up feeling lonely even as a human.
In this book we are introduced to Jax and his father, Godfrey, who are both Warlocks. What does Godfrey want with Surla why is he paying her so much attention.
Well you will have to find out about Godfreys rather devious plan by reading the book!
Once again Molly writes in a great simplistic way that should make the middle grade reader literally race through the book. Molly also leaves the reader wanting to know what elae can happen to Surla next? Could she Beswitch again and with whom?
The cover adds to the comedy type of feel about the book. The cover features Surla in her mistress Idis' body, after the major makeover she gives the body! in the background I would say it is Jax looking on at Surla.
Did I enjoy the book? Yes at the age this is aimed for I would have literally eaten up the book! Would I recommend? Yes Would I read more? To review for Molly and to help you guys out there with picking your books for middle graders/young teens of course!

Available from Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk £2.54 (a reasonable price!)

This series just keeps getting better! The first book was off on a rocky start for me, but by the end I really enjoyed it! And this book started off good, and got even better and now by the end of it, I can't wait to read the 3rd book! That is pretty impressive. I love when series get even better, and this one shows so much promise- I just know the 3rd book is going to be really exciting!

The first book was focused on Cathy and this book was more focused on Surla. I liked that, because I think that Surla is more relatable and a better developed character. So reading about her was more interesting to me. Even her witch, isis showed some growth during the book, which I did not expect at all! I thought the story was going to take a very different turn somewhere down the line.

Jax is the guy in this story, and yet again, he is my favorite guy so far! Are you seeing a pattern here? I like everything more, I think BeSwitched Witch is an all around better book. I think it was better developed, not choppy or jumpy in parts. It flowed better and held my interest more.

There were a few new characters too. A new bully at school, a magical force and a whole new drama. This book was even cuter than the first one, and the next one looks like it will be great too! It ended on a cliff hanger and with some of the new characters playing a role in the next story, it seems to be a set up for a great adventure! I am really liking this series for a light and fun, magical read!

I think I liked this switch even more than Surla's switch with Cathy. What is great about this story is that now we are introduced to a more confident Cathy, though this book is not really about her but Surla and Idis. We get to see Surla missing being a human, which is funny because she doesn't like them......well until she meets Jax Morreau. The chemistry between the two of them was such fun to read. The banter between Idis and Surla, and how the relationship between the two changes, as they both get to see how the other side lives, literally. I thought this was a very well written interaction with the witch and her familiar. The characters were memorable, and easy to relate to as a reader could identify someone or themselves with each one. Surla may be a cat but she is a kitty with style and pizazz. Can't wait to read more about the characters' journey. Wittingly charming and full of humor this is a must read!

3.5 stars I did not enjoy it as much as the first but it is a fun and interesting read. Surla and Idis are up to their hijinks and get caught into mischief which seems to be their specialty. A few new characters who were just as quirky as in the first book. I absolutely adore this cover! The ending leaves me in suspicion that could be another book in this series and if the author writes one, I will read it!

I had heard such great thing about these books! Truthfully I was rather disappointed, but that could have been because I built it up so high in my own mind or the fact I did not start with the 1st in this series. If that is the case I will come back and change this.
Overall this was not a bad book. It had lots of really great features and taught some great lessons as well.

I've really enjoyed this series thus far. This book is a bit more exciting than the last.

Great for a quick, easy, innocent story with witches and love.

Probably great for Tween girls an anyone else who enjoys an innocent romance - I appreciate a book where kids aren't sleeping around and doing things they shouldn't.

A great 2nd book in the series

This time it is Idis and Surla that are switching bodies. Will Idis learn from her mistakes and how badly she treated Surla and others. What happen's when Surla in Idis body falls for a boy and Cathy's school.

Looking forward to reading the 3rd book in this series

I love the series! Just wish I had more time to read books like this more often. The first book, BeSwitched, focuses on Cathy and this second one on Surla, the cat, what makes the story really interesting and fun.

I'm excited for the 3rd book for sure and highly recommend the series.

Too much dialogue...

Not enough substance. Felt too young for its intended audience. I felt relieved when it ended.....disappointing because the premise has such potential.
