A beautifully Illustrated book of Fuddles a Sylvester cat that wanted more adventure then he had inside his home. He tried a little exercising to get ready for the big adventure. One day he slipped outside when no one was looking. The world was scary, he couldn't even catch a bird,he was too heavy to jump. He was glad when his family came looking for him and found him.

Oh my God this was SO cute!! Fuddles reminds me of a fat Sylvester. This pampered feline decides one day that his life needs adventure. But his people don't allow him outside. What to do? He starts an exercise regimen with his toys and scratching post, and manages to slip outside with the kids one day. And he has adventures, but they're not what he'd imagined they'd be. My favorite picture is Fuddles flying up in the air when the neighbor's dog startles him out of his nap. I laughed aloud at that one. When Fuddles gets lost in the neighborhood, will he ever get back to his comfy home and loving family? Read and find out. A must-read for cat lovers!!

Anyone who knows Fuddles the Cat knows she enjoys bubble baths, fancy pillows, gourmet food, and a carefree life with devoted humans ready to please and fulfill her every wish. Fuddles has come to not only enjoy, but to expect pampering. How is it that Fuddles could have a nightmare living in such fine conditions? It’s an omen, but Fuddles only cares about her stomach. It’s time to eat. But wait. What is this by her bowl? Is this . . . a puddle . . . a puddle of . . . DOG!

Fuddles and Puddles is a perfectly delightful story of cat-canine relations. Vischer has always understood cats and it is apparent he also understands dogs. The reason is simple. He based the story on the real life struggles between his pampered cat and new puppy. Kids will love this story. Those with a younger sibling will relate to Fuddles . . .

Spolied, fat feline realizes after an outdoor adventure that indoor life is far more preferable. Fun, appealing story with charming illustrations.

Delightful illustrations and a cute story, along with a gentle message about the many hazards that cats face when left to roam outdoors -- and why they're much happier being pampered in the home.

I loved Vischer's cartoon artwork for this lazy, fat, pampered cat. I can see Vischer's work as a Disney artist reflected in his digital illustrations for this story. Fuddles' wish for an outdoor adventure royally backfires on him.

I am without a doubt, with no apologies given whatsoever, a dog person through and through. There are life-size paw prints on my mailbox, a ceramic sign on my front walkway proclaiming "Home Is Where The Dog Is" and my family photos are of my canine companion, Xena.

But I have to say that when browsing through a local bookstore earlier this summer, spotting Fuddles written and illustrated by Frans Vischer, I cracked up laughing. You may not be able to judge a book by its cover, but it sure will get your attention. Seeing that chunky cat lounging on his personal purple settee dangling a fish over his grinning mouth was a definite draw.

Adorable and fun, but with a lesson.

I picked this book up because it had a chonky cat on the front and his name is Fuddles. How can you go wrong with that? You can’t. The writing is fun, but it teaches a lesson, and the illustrations are great.

The theme of the book is respecting what you already have, and that theme shined right through. Children will love the illustrations of Fuddles trying to figure out where he belongs and will be able to understand sometimes being where you are is the best. I liked Fuddles because he’s like many animals that want the thrill of being outside, until they get it, then they don’t want it any longer.

If you want an adorable book, with a good message, then this book is a must.

I thought this was the cutest story. I loved the illustrations as well. They really brought the story to life and made it much more engaging. I would use this as a read aloud and would put this in my classroom library. I would recommend this for a 2nd-5th grade classroom because some of the reading is a little more than new readers can handle.

Adorable story about a fat, pampered cat who wants adventure. He finally gets out and realizes how good he had it at home. He is lost and scared. He looks everywhere for his family, until they come and find him. He is so happy.

I knew just by the cover that I’d enjoy this book. A silly pampered cat getting his ‘just deserts’ is a fair description. I chuckled over the illustrations alone, but the story just enhanced what we were seeing. A fun read.

Fuddles is a very fat, spoiled, pampered indoor house cat. Fuddles longs for adventure outside, but he is denied. Fuddles finally makes his escape to the great outdoors, but what he dreamed of and what he experiences are totally different.

This is a really amusing story. It's funny and cute, but the overall message of the story is to stick to what you're familiar with and that it's better to be pampered than to be self sufficient.

A pampered housecat decides he needs to go out and see the world. There are a ton of great parts that reflect a clear understanding of cats ('No? I've never heard that word before!') and classic illustrations by a former Disney animator, but I felt the book relied to heavily on fatmisia to land some jokes and it rubbed the wrong way.

Here is a book for all the cat-lovers out there! Fuddles is a fat and pampered cat who lives the good life indoors. He seemed completely satisfied, until one day he gets it in his mind that a grand adventure awaits him beyond the front door and into the "wild." The comforts of home are no longer as appealing as the excitements of the unknown. He attempts to prepare for his outdoor exploit as best he can, but when his chance for escape finally comes, his main discovery is just how unprepared he still is . . . and when actual danger ushers him further away from home than he can navigate, he gains a new appreciation for home and family. In the end, Fuddles is finally found, as is his sense of where he belongs. He's an adventurer that happens to love being pampered!

This book was my introduction to Frans Vischer, who is both author and illustrator. This rare talent combination is dynamite, since much of the fun in picture books is the interplay between what should be spoken with words and what the illustrations can reveal to us "between the lines." In this case, there is an endearing storyline with a perfectly subtle, yet sure, message of family and belonging. The illustrations take it to a whole new level, adding humor and emotion, and reminding us readers not to take our own blessings for granted. One of those blessings might be a fat, pampered cat on your lap awaiting a soft belly rub, just like in the final, adorable illustration.

Recommended for ages 4 to 8!

This was actually the third of the Fuddles books I read, and I already loved this cat. I will admit, I love him partially because Fuddles reminds me so much of my own cat (also fat and spoiled). I thought he resembled my cat before, but with this story about Fuddles' deep down soul of an adventurer, Vischer could be writing about my cat specifically (the little escape artist...).

So, knowing that I'm biased, Fuddles is still adorable. Very spoiled and pampered (or as a cat would say, only what he deserves) and wondering what else is out there. Upon escaping for his adventure, though, it's a lesson that the grass is not always greener. Nothing remarkable in the story, exactly, but the illustrations are funny and cute, and the humor is deadpan serious. A fun read.

However much of a cat person you are, this is a good storytime read too. Lots of sound effects as Fuddles explores and gets into mischief, along with silly illustrations, make for an entertaining read for the kids. I'd pull it out for a storytime on cats or exploring/adventure.

I recently read Nini Lost and Foundand it was natural to contrast the two books. Both are about a cat who leaves his/her comfortable indoor home and ventures into the great outdoors. The tone and illustrations in Fuddles are much more humorous. Fuddles is a fat, pampered cat, as anyone can see from the book's cover. He decides that he wants an adventure and heads for the door, but Mom says, "No." Fuddles is amazed. He had never been told No before. And thoughts of the forbidden take hold. He must get outside! But first he undertakes an exercise regimen to prepare himself. When an opportunity presents itself, he's outta there, and on his big adventure. But his indoor preparations weren't enough to promise success outdoors. Soon a tired, hungry Fuddles is lost in the dark and hoping that his family will find him. Great story, super illustrations.

Fuddles is a fat and pampered indoor cat who one day realizes that his should have more excitement than just, eating sleeping and using his litter box. He wants to go outdoors. Human mom says "no", and he can't understand why -- no one has ever said "no" to Fuddles. Determined to go out, he brushes up on his jumping, hunting, and claw sharpening skills --indoors, and one day sneaks out of the house. He quickly learns that he is too fat to hunt, the bird bath is filthy (and now so is he). He also gets chased by an angry dog, he gets lost and has trouble finding his way home, but one day hears his worried owner calling his name. Fuddles, quickly realizes that pamper cats really do need to be indoors, and is happy to be back home.

The illustrations are awesome, and the story teaches children a lesson, about indoor cats belonging indoors, and that moms really do know best. It is a very cute story and highly recommended.

I’m always a bit impressed with children’s books that are written and illustrated by the same person. Frans Vischer works as an animator at Disney and Fuddles, intended for children ages four to seven, is his first picture book. He has modeled Fuddles after his own pet.

Fuddles is a spoiled house cat who dreams of being a great adventurer and so sneaks out of the house one Sunday afternoon. He soon finds that the great outdoors isn’t at all as he imagined it would be and as darkness settles, he finds himself lost and scared.

Vischer’s illustrations have an almost water-color quality about them. During Fuddles’ time indoors, the cat—he is a BIG cat—dominates the pictures. Outdoors, the spaces are bigger and, by nightfall, we know Fuddles is good and lost.

This story is a valuable moral lesson for young children in the importance of ‘listening to mom’ and being happy where you are. Four stars.

Fuddles is a pampered house cat, but he has big ideas about making it in the big, wide world. But will his ambitions turn out to be nothing more than delusions of grandeur? And will he realize where the heart really is?

I was interested to discover that this was written and illustrated by a Disney animator, which perhaps explains why the art is pretty good but the story is okay. It wasn't that original, and it felt like it was trying really hard to be something from the library of the masterful Marla Frazee, but it didn't quite measure up. But it has humor and fun and a pretty good message so we enjoy it.

Fuddles is a pampered feline, who dreams of living a life of adventure. Unfortunately, he gets his chance...and it's not quite what he expected!

I wasn't disappointed! I found this book online and fell in love with the cover...but for a long time I was unable to find a copy of it. But then I noticed recently on a general search that my library has a copy - and I immediately put it on hold.

The illustrations have a lot of movement and the text was good. If you want to get into the mind of a cat, here's your chance! ;)
