** I received an eARC copy of the book from InkSpell Publishing for review.**

When Shadow of the Witte Wieven became available for review, I almost passed it up. It wasn't because I didn't want to read it, I did. It's exactly the sort of story I love to read. I just wasn't sure that I had time for it. Well, I am very glad that I did not pass up the opportunity to read this book. I loved it!

Aliyana Montijo is a DEA agent on assignment to gather information against Emil Mercado, a known drug lord for the Columbian cartel, by posing as a security specialist hired to install a new security system at Emil's compound. On the day she finishes the job she knows that Emil won't let her leave so she escapes in Emil's Twin Otto plane only to encounter a dark storm cloud. She ends up crashing, after landing the plane in the water. Wolfaert Dircksen Van Ness, captain of the Witte Wieven, having seen Aliyana crash, rescues her.

What Aliyana isn't aware of, at first, is that she is no longer in her own realm, she's in the in-between. With Wolf's and his crew's help, they return Aliyana to her own realm. However, they wish to help her with her assignment and that's where the adventure begins.

Wolf and his crew have unique abilities that help with Aliyana's mission. I found this part of the story particularly fun and fascinating. Also, since Wolf and most of his crew are from the 1600s they have a more proper way of speaking which I enjoyed. It sort of gave the story a historical feel. The romance aspect didn't come about right away but was really sweet. Apart from the fact that there were a couple of actions that were repeated perhaps too often, and that aspects of the story could have been drawn out just a little more, there wasn't anything that I disliked.

I really enjoyed this book. There were moments where I laughed and others were I cried. If you like light romances with adventure and suspense, give Shadow of the Witte Wieven a try. I don't know whether there will a sequel but I certainly wouldn't object if there was. :)

I give this book a 4.5 rating.

I enjoyed reading Shadow of the Witte Wieven unique storyline . Aliyana works for the DEA, and she is almost wrapping up her case. Her case, to catch the Columbian drug lord Emil Mercado. She is working on the last minute details, collecting evidence which will ensure Emil's arrest. Upon completing this task she makes a run for it, only to find her source of transport, her bike missing. She hijacks Emil's plane - after kicking some butts along the way - and flies, escaping the guards and gunshots raining all around her.
Then something interesting happens. Without warning, the weather shifts suddenly and as she manouevre the plane, she crashes into rocks, losing consciousness.

When she later wakes up, she finds herself inside a lighthouse, and beside her the handsome Dutchman Captain Wolfaert, the captain of the Wieven.

Ms. Peterson weaved a truly wonderful story. The characters were an absolute treat.Aliyana is a strong character, self-sufficient. Inside that tough girl look and act, is someone who is sensitive, insecure when it comes to promises. After all what has happened to her with her family, I emphathised and understood her. Wolfaert, is just as lovable, a strong character who really complements Aliyana. The Wolf crew has a wonderful collection of characters as well, funny and loyal to their captain, and later Aliyana.

I highly recommend this book to fans of paranormal. It's unique and different, descriptions wonderfully done.

Review:

"Shadow of the Witte Wieven" by Debbie Peterson was a good read especially if you are in for fairy, ghost (ship), mystery and romance read. I found this a cute fun and lovable story. The story was definitely one that would keep you on the edge of your seat trying to follow this heroine...

Aliyana Montijo was a DEA (agent) that was to stop the assassination of top officials that had been ordered by the 'Colombian Drug Lord'(Emil Mercado Just how this author was able to get this story told using the time line was simple great. When Aliyana is over the Bermuda Triangle and the plane crashes ... there she meets up with Wolfaert Dircksen Van Nes (Wolf) and his crew. Aliyana now as a bounty on her head.....Just who could she trust? Her brother had told her to never trust anyone.
Will Wolf and his crew be able to help her bring down the cartel?
There is so mush conspiracy's and corruptions going on in this
story you really have to keep up with who is doing what to who?... because you may get lost in all the suspense.

Wolf, the hero who was oh so sexy in his moves for Aliyana.
Wolf not only wanted to help protect Aliyana... but will he be able to
save the day? And oh how he loved his 'Lieveling'.. You will have to read this story to find out just who that is..... Were they falling in love?

The characters of "Shadow of The Witte Wieven" were all very good showing there abilities to help this heroine(Aliyana) with her task of this mission.

In the end you will find "Shadow of the Witte Wieven" a very amazing story that you will find hard to put down until you are finished. I would definitely recommend this to a young and adult reader especially if you like fairy tale endings!

I was given a copy of this book as part of a blog tour for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this story. Aliyana was deep undercover when her expiration time came and she had to flee for her life. While doing so she ran into even more trouble; meet these weird “ghosts”; and has a bounty on her head from the drug lord. Aliyana knows about the drug lord’s plot to assassinate hundreds of DEA families but can’t just come out and report it because she doesn’t know who to trust. Yes there are moles and judicial corruption in this tale. Overall….my oh my… what a thriller.

From the synopsis, I assumed this was more so a love story; yet the focus was more on the rescue then the romance. I was a tad disappointed; yet the snippets that were depicted were beyond adorable. Wolfaert Dircksen Van Ness (Wolf) was this super protective gentleman hero and adventurer who was too good to be true. I mean seriously, I kept hoping, fingers crossed and all; he would take a little initiative. *Eye brow wiggle* Wolf was also one of the ghosts. The word “ghost “is used lightly. This is a new kind of supernatural to me because, technically they’re not ghosts because they never really died. However, their physical form in this realm resembles the characteristics of a poltergeist. (I hope I didn’t lose you. )

With the Aliyana’s dilemma, it was hard to figure out what would happen next. The suspense definitely kelp me intrigued throughout. The ending was VERY fairy tale. We’re talking “and they lived happily ever after”, but I hope that’s not the case because I would like to see more of Wolf & Aliyana. I would recommend this to anyone. The romance content is PG enough for YA readers as well.

This was a fun, exciting read! Historically speaking, I am not a sic-fi reader, unless the hook is original enough to grab my attention. And Debbie Peterson scored with me. I love time travel novels. Love, love, love them. And this book had some magical elements that made this book feel a lot less "Star Trek" and a lot more "Superheroes meets fairy tales" for me. The crew members of the Witte Wieven all had abilities that helped the heroine, Aliyana, complete her mission. This added a really fun camaraderie between characters that I enjoyed. I love books with a great ensemble of characters, and Shadow of The Witte Wieven had that in spades. Plus...the hero, Wolf, was very sexy, very chivalrous, and very compelling. I loved his character, and wish I could have read more about him. I, for one, would read an entire book of Wolf backstory. I'm just sayin....(do you hear that, Ms. Peterson??) Overall, a great book, with great characters, and light enough to be categorized as a "fun" read. Well done!

Shadow of the Witte Wieven by Debbie Peterson

An excellent mix of the supernatural with a sweet romance, a ghost ship, and a mission to save innocent lives.

Aliyana is an undercover agent for the DEA. She’s out to bust the drug leader Emil in Columbia by going undercover and working for him directly. For her, this mission is personal. This man was responsible for her brother’s death, the only family member she had still alive, and she doesn’t want him to die in vain.

After Aliyana acquires a bunch of Emil’s secret files, her plans go awry when his lackey’s steal her only form of escape. She’s forced to pilot Emil’s drug filled plane and fly it across a stormy ocean through the Bermuda Triangle.

Her trip takes a detour to a world in between worlds, where she meets, Wolf, captain of the Witte Wieven, a ship used by the Dutch West Trading Company in the 1600’s. Wolf rescues her and brings her back to health. She confides in him, and he takes it upon himself and his crew to help her in any way they can.

Debbie Peterson has crafted a nice blend of supernatural ghosts, Bermuda Triangle lore, action packed rescues, and a sweet romance. Aliyana is a kick butt heroine that I found myself rooting for all the way through. The first chain of scenes where she escapes the clutches of the drug cartel show just how strong and resourceful she can be. But, she also has a sensitive side, and Wolf knows just how to bring it out. His century’s old chivalry is charming and refreshing. I also love the way he speaks with that touch of historical poetics.

The mystery kept me turning pages. I had no idea how Aliyana would get those files to the DEA, or how she could ever end up with a ghost and have their own happily ever after. You’ll have to read to find out.

This book was absolutely enjoyable to read. It was an interesting take on time travel within the Bermuda Triangle. I like how Aliyana was a kick butt girl and that she wasn't your usual fragile damsel in distress. And even though she can take care of herself, after meeting Wolf and his crew she comes to rely on them. Wolf and his crew were really fun characters and I liked how they helped with their "Ghostly Abilities". I like the relationship between Alyiana and Wolf. It had a good start and the pace if it growing was perfect. The book was a real page turner. I didn't want to put down. I wanted to know what will happen next. During the stage of investigating Mercado and the Cartel, the author had set a good pace in gathering Intel, not making it to long or short. The book was a delightful read and I thought the ending was really delightful and really cute. It was definitely worth reading!! ^-^

My thoughts on the book Shadow of the Witte Wieven by Debbie Peterson was so much different than most paranormal romance books.  No vampires, werewolves, or witches but let me tell you she gave me a story that I never even missed them.  Aliyana Montijo is a undercover DEA agent deep into a Colombian drug cartel.  After gaining information she had to steal a airplane in order to escape.  But situation changed over the Bermuda Triangle and she happened upon Wolf and his crew members.  Throughout her recovery she finds out things about them that would have normal people jumping overboard.  Wolf and his crew help her in her quest to bring down  the drug cartel.  Along the way they fall in love.  We are privileged to get a front row seat on their amazing journey of love, mystery, and intrigue.  Do not miss out on this wonderful story you will not be disappointed.  The inability to put down this book will have you immersing yourself completely in this amazing book.

This book has a bit of everything - it's fantasy with a dash of intrigue and action, partly set in some kind of parallel world, with a pirate and DEA agent as main characters, and a beautiful romance for good measure. It had a slow start but once the story picked up I couldn't stop reading. Well the book has an interesting plot, that I admit I didn't understand right away. Many things are not well described and are left alone without further descriptions which annoyed me but as story progressed things got more clear (or they simply didn't bother me that much any more). The main female character - Aliyana Montijo was a strong heroine with a kick ass personality, a certain charisma, and a strong will of her own capable to stand her ground against everyone else. I really liked her.
The hero of the book, Wolfaert Dircksen Van Ness (yes, that's a mouthful) was very interesting character. And charming, oh so charming. I liked him too.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book, it was a nice read. Apart from the slow start and maybe a little rushed ending it was a very enjoybale book.

Unfortunately, this was a bit flat for me. The characters had no depth and, while a good plot re the DEA, there was no sense of peril or drama. Everything was too easy.

Aliyana Montijo has been undercover for several months. Her mission is to find enough evidence to put a Colombian drug lord behind bars for life. But before that she has to become somebody else. Then something big happened to Aliyana while she was trying to escape while trying to gather evidence right from the source. Worst comes to worst, Aliyana’s gate-away motorbike disappears and she’s stuck with a small pilot plane as her only gate-away route. She flees the daunting drug lord’s lair (so-to-speak) and wonders in air trying to find a safe place to land. Instead, she crashes in the Bermuda Triangle and is left unconscious or so you think.

Beside her crash site, a ship called the Witte Wieven sees the accident and the Capitan of the ship (who is extremely hot) orders his men to save whoever is on the ship. And that's where the story begins.

At first, the whole beginning was so paranormal and urban fantasy-ish but as you get deeper into the story, it turns into a detective book (which I loved).

The setting of the book was marvelously described and thought of. Peterson really knows how to paint a picture for her readers. The same can be said for the characters. My favorites would be the men of the Witte Wieven crew. They had such a unique humor that I enjoyed thoroughly. And each one had a different backgrounds and characteristics.

Aliyana was a great character. But I felt as if there was something lacking from her. I can’t pinpoint what but there was something. She’s your strong loner, who has watched everyone around her die. She’s a little broken (I would be too), so there are hints of angst. As for Wolf, the Captain, he is definitely the kind of wise, old, sexy, and unearthly being I imagined in the beginning. I know for sure, a lot of people have probably gotten sick of the whole, tall, dark and handsome love interests. I, for one love it!

Furthermore, the plot was executed wonderfully. It was very present and strong and was leaning a lot more towards the detective-side more than the paranormal/fantasy side. I didn’t mind it much since there were elements of ghostliness towards the peak of the plot.

Overall, the book is an excellent and unique addition to the paranormal romance genre. It was a combination of excitement, mystery, supernatural events and romance (sometimes but rarely the corny type).

A wonderful paranormal romance that will keep you on your toes with giggles and thrill. Debbie Peterson is an author to look out for.

Where to start, oh where to start. Well first of all I went into this story blind as a bat. I actually thought Witte Wieven was a person, and from the title I actually thought they must be a ghost, or something. Ha! Jokes totally on me. It’s actually the name of a 17th century ship that disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle along with the members of it’s crew, including the dashing and charming Captain Dirksen aka Wolf – who just happens to be quite skilled in manners of escape, evasion as well as stealing hearts.

BUT… yes big but, the story isn’t completely centered around them, no, Aliyana Rosa Montijo is our real hero heroine in this story. She was deep, deep undercover in a major drug lords’ business when she uncovered a plot to kill DEA agents, their wives, and children. She set off on her escape route when she encountered trouble that caused her to crash land her stolen plane.

Once recovered – with the help of the crew of the Wieven - she learns that the Wolf pack may have originated in our world, but due to an anomaly, they had found a way to not only cross dimensions of time but also enter into other worlds. This makes them appear ghost like and give them powers such as speed, walking through objects, and the ability to forgo food and sleep when in this dimension.

Wolf wants Aliyana to return home with him, but she fears for the DEA agents and their families. She can’t make a decision until this is solved and the evil drug lord is behind bars. There is a lot more to this plot…but you need and I mean NEED to read it.

Into the book these are the plot turning questions I asked myself. First off, does Aliyana succeed? Do they find out who gave up her cover? Will she choose to follow her heart and leave the dimension? Does the ‘Wolf Pack’ get to have some ghostly fun on the bad guys that work for the drug lord?

This is a real suspenseful page turning read that had me hooked right away. I fear to give up to much for those who haven’t had the pleasure to read it yet. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys suspense, mystery and of course romance. I also loved the fresh approach on the Bermuda triangle! Shadow of The Witte Wieven is a very refreshing story that you’ll be sure to love no matter how old you are.

This book was sooooo good - it is one of my favorites and I look forward to reading it again! I loved the depth and interaction of the characters, the suspense and drama, the supernatural and their abilities and portrayals ... and of course the romance. I became very invested in this story right from the start. I hated putting this book down and would keep sneaking in chapters whenever I could. I can't wait to read more from this author - I hope she puts out more books soon!

This was a good mix of time travel and romantic suspense. My rating 4.5.

Aliyana has been working undercover for a Columbia drug lord, Emil. Now that she is completing her security tech work she knows she must escape or face death. The local guards have commandeered her motorcycle so she commandeers Emil’s plane. On her way to Florida, Aliyana is caught in a storm and the plane is hit by lightning. While heading to crash into the ocean, Aliyana thinks she sees a pirate ship. She awakens in a lighthouse to find a handsome, strangely dressed man hovering.

Wolfaert is the Captain of a Dutch West Indies vessel who has been traveling between parallel dimensions. It isn’t easy to explain to this spirited young woman that she has fallen through a time tunnel. Before leaving Columbia Aliyana had stumbled upon information of an assassination plot by Emil against the families of the DEA. She is determined to get back to her world and time to protect those targets.

I enjoyed the steady action and intrigue in this story. This was augmented by the machinations and nuances of time traveling spirits. Then you have the pleasure of a growing romance with a twist very near the end. I found the story creative and the writing well-paced. I would be interested in reading more from Ms. Peterson. I recommend this to readers who enjoy romantic suspense and time travel.

I will confess I might have expected too much from this book. It has a Dutch sea captain as a lead character and the title refers to Dutch folklore, so I was hoping for a good ghostly read.

First disappointment: The Witte Wieven in the title didn't refer to ghostly women who lure unsuspecting travels to their death. Instead it was the name of Wolfaert's ship. Why he would name his ship after ghosts who only haunt moors and why he used the plural form (witte wieven = white women) is anyone's guess. (And while we're on the subject of names: Wolfaert is not pronounced Wolfate! Come on! There's an R in there!)

Anyway: I decided to not hold this disappointment against this book and tried to enjoy the actual story.

And it's not bad. It's quite a nice read actually, but there were some things missing. The characters were all a bit one dimensional. I never really got to know any of them. Such a shame as there were some really interesting characters if only they had gotten a bit more flesh on their bones, so to speak. This lack of depth also made the romance between Aliyana and Wolfaert fall flat for me.

I also think Peterson could have used Wolfaert's background and the parallel dimension stuff a bit more. Now he and his crew were just handy helpers for Aliyana to give her everything she needed. It even went so far that their help removed all possible hurdles, so there was no suspense or danger at all.

In the end this was a nice, uncomplicated story, with some really interesting ideas that could have been used better in my opinion.

Another wonderful and suspenseful time travel tale from author, Debbie Peterson. This one involves DEA operative, Aliyana Montijo, who, after a bizarre storm in the Bermuda Triangle, encounters the captain and crew of a seventeenth century vessel, the Witte Wieven (for the story on the ship and another romantic pair read Ms. Peterson’s equally exceptional, Van Locken’s Witch).

In no time, Aliyana is working with Captain Wolfaert Dircksen Van Ness to bring down a drug cartel in the present day. What I like best about Ms. Peterson’s stories is how beautifully she handles two people from extremely different backgrounds falling in love. It’s that initial flush of romance. There is suspense and intrigue here by the bucketful, but the sweet and tender romance is the star of this novel. As in all of her books, Peterson delivers a believable heroine with strength, and a romantic hero to melt your heart. Wolf can sail into my life any day! In the meantime, I eagerly look forward to a new release from this fabulous author who knows exactly how to balance heartstrings and danger.

This is such a different paranormal romance novel than what you typically see. No vampires and werewolves here. Just ghosts. And the ghosts here have their own peculiarities. But let me tell you first that this book contains romance. Not just romance, but the perfect, story-book romance. The happy ending kind that you see in fairy tales.

What did I love about this book? There's a lot of dialogue. And I absolutely loved it (I love dialogue in general). A lot of the story unfolds as the characters talk and interact with each other (it makes the story more believable). And the romance... It's swoon-worthy.

What I thought was all right (or slightly lacking): the action. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of action. But I felt like the action went a little too perfectly like I was watching it through foggy glasses.

Who would I recommend this book to? Anyone who likes romance novels and is looking for a different paranormal read.

This was an interesting book, as Peterson takes on another angle of the paranormal and myth. Though sometimes a bit confusing and far-fetched, the idea is created in a plausible manner. Aliyana and Wolf are both good characters, daring and brave. Their relationship is an underlying force throughout the story, though I felt like I didn't see as much of its development as I had wanted. The same with the side characters. Though there were many and understandably they couldn't all be fleshed out completely, I wanted to know at least some of them a bit more. They were fun though, giving a nice backdrop to the main actions of the story. Very focused on the step-by-step actions of the mission, it began as hard to follow but eventually sucked me into the adventure of it. A good action story with, of course, some romance intertwined.
