Nothing works better than a woman on a mission who carries a badge
Fresh off a nightmare case that found her kidnapped and still being hunted, Jess Harris is back on rotation and embroiled in a horrific murder case. The wife of a beloved member of the police force who has been deemed a saint by anyone that knew her is found brutally murdered. If you have no enemies who would not only want you dead how does Jess reconcile the anger that fueled this crime.
At first glance all appearances point to a vengeance killing which rattles the gang issues that have been boiling to the surface, but still none of those pieces fit together cohesively either. The questions outnumber the answers with the largest one poised as the possibility that this is a spur of the heated moment crime. Too many questions and no answers appear to jump at her until Jess looks right at a potential witness. The problem with the witness is a set of circumstances Jess can relate to and resolve, but right now wants to focus on just what the person saw that has them so frightened.
When the questions turn from speculation to resolution the only objective Jess has is to stay one step ahead of the murderer. While trying to win over the people that report to her, juggling a complicated personal life, and still dodging a crazed killer still set on taking her out Jess is beginning to think sleeping with her boss is the least of her problems.
This is a stand a book where the day it is available you are standing outside the book store waiting for it to open up to get started reading kind of series
A police officer’s wife has been murdered and beheaded. Who would want her dead? Also, it seems that the killer was not the only one in the house. An eight year old autistic boy named Devon was there. He holds a clue as to who the killer is.
Jess Harris is on the case along with her romantic interest, Chief of Police Dan Burnett.
Rage is my first introduction to the Faces of Evil series. I must have been hiding under a rock to have not known about this series. This is right up my reading alley. Rage can be read as a stand alone novel. The only thing I would warn about is having not read the prior three novels, I had to get caught up to speed some on Jess and Dan’s relationship.
My only disappointment is that I thought from the back of the book that Devon would play a bigger part in helping to capture the killer. I only comment on this factor because I found Devon to be intriguing and wanted to see him interact more in the book.
Jess is a good female lead. She has a good solid head on her shoulders. I am going to go back and read the prior novels to get to know Jess and Dan better. Rage is worth a second look.

Becca's Books Review:
This is the 4th book of the Faces of evil Series by the talented Ms. Debra Webb, the story picks up where book 3 ended. I Love Jess and Dan, and I can't wait for more of their love story to come forward in books to come, the only thing that bothers me is that its taking forever ever to get there..
Rage is about a murder that has taken the life of a fellow BPD Officer, its a ugly murder full of Rage.. I love how Debra takes you on the journey of solving this case. Jess is still trying to settle into her job, her life back in her hometown, having to find a place to life, all new clothes, dealing with her EX husband and her relationship with Dan.. I love that we see the same characters in all the books not only Jess and Dan, but Lori, Chet, officer Cook, Jess's sister Lily and her family.
The Faces of Evil series by Debra Webb features an outstanding cast, tightly woven plots, and chilling twists that will keep readers turning pages until Jess and her team sort out each case.
RAGE is another fantastic, hair-raising thriller that stands alone, but watching the friendships and relationships evolve from one book to the next is a bonus. Webb is a master storyteller and I'm looking forward to the next book already.
Romantic Suspense does not get any better than the imitable Debra Webb's Faces of Evil series. The primary reason that this series succeeds is that Ms. Webb manages to combine action-packed plots with character driven ones, no easy feat. There are recurring characters coping with their flaws, personal growth, and intimate relationships at the same time that they are dealing with murder and mayhem.
The main characters, Jess Harris and Dan Burnett, were lovers twenty years ago. Jess, a former FBI profiler, returns home to Birmingham, principally, to escape serial killer, Eric Spears, who is obsessed with her.
After assisting him on a case, Dan, the Birmingham Chief of Police, offers her a position as deputy chief of the new Major Crimes unit of the Department, and she accepts. Dan becomes her lover as well as her boss.
Jess is an acutely intelligent, independent, and driven heroine determined to do things her own way, even if they are outside of police protocol and, conveniently, unknown to Dan.
In her three weeks home, Jess has lead the investigations of one heinous crime after the other. But nothing prepares Jess for the gruesome murder scene of Gabrielle Grayson, wife of Police Lt. Lawrence Grayson. Mrs. Grayson had been beheaded and stabbed numerous times while her baby slept in his crib down the hall.
There is no shortage of potential suspects, someone seeking vengeance against Lt. Grayson, the fixated serial killer who continues to send threatening text messages to Jess, the drug gang which has beheaded two people for moving in on its territory, the Graysons's pool guy and, always the number one suspect when a spouse is killed, her husband.
As the investigation progresses, Jess discovers that her only witness may be Devon, an eight year old autistic boy, who lives next door to the Graysons. Just as she closes in on this lead, Devon goes missing and Jess suspects foul play.
Focusing on the rage required to commit such a murder, Jess realizes that to solve the murder, she must find who hated Gabrielle Grayson enough to kill her in such a diabolical manner.
Ms. Webb smoothly weaves the personal lives of the characters into the story. While Dan and Jess are working on the case, they learn more about each other and try to accommodate, to the extent that they are able, the other's needs. Dan tries to be less protective, or at least not show it. Jess shows Dan a vulnerability that belies her tough exterior. Just as things seem to be working out for them, Jess's ex-husband arrives from California clearly intent on winning Jess back. Who will she choose?
There is sufficient deceit, betrayal, unknown killers, and twists to keep the reader captivated.
Rage is the fourth book in this series. While it is a stand-alone read, the reader may prefer reading the predecessors, Obsession, Impulse, and Power, before Rage. I guarantee that if you read Rage first, you will go back and read the earlier books.
I highly recommend Rage, and the other books in the Faces of Evil series, to any reader who genuinely enjoys Romantic Suspense, that is, a balance between the two genres.

My thoughts: Well, I am back from my 2 weeks in my island paradise of Oahu and it is now time to catch up on the reviews for all of the books I finished while there! Sit back and enjoy the ride.
I really, really enjoy this series. I am so happy that I found it by accident on a display at Barnes and Noble. It is technically a series that is characterized as Romantic Suspense and hence shelved under romance, but don’t let this fool you, it is really a wonderful mystery, thriller series with a bit of a romantic focus.
The main characters in this series – namely Jess Harris – new deputy chief of Major Crimes unit and Dan Burnett – Chief of Police and Jess’s lover – are engaging and wonderful!
This book tends to get away a bit from the serial killer Eric Spears that is after Jess and focuses on a number of different cases, but it really just serves to wet the reader’s appetite as we all know Spears will be back with a vengeance. I can’t wait!
If you are a lover of good mystery series with a serial killer slant, please give this series a chance! You will not be disappointed.
A fast, engaging read that makes you wanting more. Book 5 (of 6) in the series came out July 30 and I will be getting it soon!
True to form, this book starts off days after the previous book ended. There is still MS-13 activity, though not as heavy as I would have thought. The previous book led me to believe that there was going to be a serious gang war, and while it was referred to several times, it didn't seem as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Jess has 2 cases to work on in this book - the murder of the wife of a fellow police officer, and the disappearance of an autistic little boy named Devon. I really liked the parts involving Devon, he was really sweet.
Chet and Lori make some choices about their future, Jess is starting to think about her future with Burnett. I am hoping she becomes what she keeps thinking about (I won't even mention it or hide it in a spoiler. You can read for yourself...) Jess has a new apartment, a space above the garage of her landlord Mr. Louis. I can't wait to read more about him, he is one of those characters that you just aren't sure of.
We are led to the killer fairly early on, although it isn't explained how or why until the ending. I also really liked the conclusion concerning Leslie and Devon, that was a really happy and uplifting ending for such a violent book.
This is book 4 in the Faces of Evil series, which will consist of 12 books. Obsession, Impulse, Power, and Rage (1-4) are available now, Revenge (5) will be available in July, Ruthless (6) will be available in August. I recommend the series and will be reading all the way through 12!
Debra Webb has done it again! The Faces of Evil series just keeps getting better and better! Rage rocks. I kept trying to guess the outcome, but I was never really sure who did it until it was actually revealed. If you love romantic suspense, you're going to love Debra. She always leaves you wanting more. I love the way the next book in the series always picks up within a day or two of where the last book left off. The characters walk off the page and into your heart. Jess and Dan are the perfect heroine and hero. You never know what is going to happen next in their relationship, but you can't help but root for them. I feel like all of the main characters are old friends now and I can't wait to see what happens next in their lives. I can't wait for Revenge, because just from reading the excerpt at the end of Rage, I am already hooked. I have read pretty much everything Debra has written. I have long been a fan of hers and I highly recommend that everyone read the Faces of Evil series and every other title you can find with the name Debra Webb on it!! You won't be disappointed!!
In this installment of the faces of evil Jess and her team needs to find out who murdered a cop's wife and stole a little boy who witnessed the murder. Jess has more than murder on her mind she has her boss Dan on her mind and she has to deal with working and falling for him, he is seeing a new side of her dealing with people she has been showing her motherly instincts and I think Dan likes that and Jess is noticing how she feels. Jess also has someone threatening her its up to Dan and Jess to find out who. Is it the gang she was previously was involved in? or was it someone from the new murder? Time will tell. I really loved this book it was awesome it was nice seeing Jess hugging people and interacting with children, I wish her and Dan were more serious so there would be a baby in the future. She wasn't as emotional in this book as she was in the last book. I can't wait to read the next installment Debra you Rock!!!!
Rage is the next book in the Faces of Evil series. I have been reading Debra Webb, for a while. She writes the most suspenseful books, and you will find yourself wanting to know what will happen in the next book. The two main characters (Jess Harris-Dan Burnett) in this story will keep you on pins, and needle, wondering what is happen between them, and what dangers that will come around the next bend for them.
This is number four, in this series, and more to come. But if you haven’t read Debra Webb, before than you need to start to now. She is an author who I have come to enjoy reading her books, because there are so many twists and turns in her books, so that you can’t put it down. That is what happens to me, now I can’t wait for the next book in this series. Rage

She couldn’t control her Rage. I’m beginning to feel a little sorry for Jess Harris. She doesn’t but finish one case and another lands in her lap. Rage once again focuses on the case the week as opposed to the Player. This case brings Jess a beheaded cop’s wife and a missing eight-year-old boy who may have witnessed the murder. Jess must navigate the tricky waters of the death of one of their own to solve this case. A new character joins the cast in Rage: Dr. Sylvia Baron, Assistant ME. She’s very similar to Jess and initially the two women clash. However, they are able to bond over the missing eight-year-old. I can’t wait to see the relationship between these two women develop over future books. Once again, Webb hits it out of the park.
Great book just like the previous ones. Each page brings something different and makes you want to read faster to find out what happens next. Must say, I did not see it coming as to who the killer was of a cops wife. But as the story progressed, and when the person suspected was questioned, you got the feeling that something was just not right. And then when the little autistic boy from next door gets kidnapped because he inadvertently may have seen the killer, you hoped they would find him soon. I liked how the romance between Harris and Burnett is there, but does not take the lead away from the story like so many other authors will do. It leaves you with just enough to make you think they may end up together at some point, especially now that her ex husband has gone back to LA. I really like how strong minded Harris's character is. She doesn't back down from anything, not even when she knows her life has been threatened. But, when she contacts the contact person that helped her before when his daughter was missing, she learned that everything has been taken care of-the mole in the dept has been dealt with and she is no longer a target. Makes you wonder if it was possible the cop that had a hand in with the killing of his partners wife. Don't want to give many spoilers. But there is also the question of her new landlord. Out of nowhere, he goes to Harris's sister-Lily, and tells her he has a garage apt that is available. She takes the apt, but she wonders herself about him. Little things that he does, only comes out at night when it is cooler, fixes things for her without her asking, and even drags out a glider for her to use on the patio. When he ran through the data base, nothing comes out that is abnormal to be concerned about. But it feels like there is more to him that anyone knows. Now, I can read number 5 of this series-the one that I have won off the Goodreads site. I must say, I have not been disappointed by these books and will reluctantly have to wait until number 6 comes out to find out how it all ends. That will be the hardest part. Great job Ms. Webb.
I received this book for free from GoodReads First Reads. This is the fourth book in the Faces of Evil series (the only one I've read). It follows Jess Harris who has moved back to her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. She is the new deputy chief of Major Crimes and has only been back in Alabama for a few weeks prior to this novel (from my understanding). Only a few days after being kidnapped (in the previous novel) a copy's wife is found dead in their home from stab wounds and a beheading. As this is happening she's figuring out her relationship with Dan Burnett - the Chief of Police, and desperately trying to figure out who would want this woman dead. A woman who is described as a saint by everyone who knows her.
She is still being taunted by serial killer Eric Spears who cost her her career at the FBI. She finds a witness - an autistic 8 year old boy - who is kidnapped. The race is on to find the killer before he or she kills the child.
This book was quite fabulous. I simply couldn't put it down. The plot is compelling and the characters are all very well fleshed out and well rounded. I highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of murder mysteries. And while there are romantic tones - it's not the main plot point. Which made me like it more. I will definitely be buying the rest of the books in this series the next time I go to the bookstore. Enjoy!!
Also, even though this is the only book I read in the series, I had no problems keeping up with what was going on. It's very easy to infer what happened in the previous books based upon the information given.
Wow! Because of personal family issues, I just got to the 4th book in the Faces of Evil series by Debra Webb. This is definitely my favorite so far. Jess has finally found a place to live and settled in but her current case is the murder of a cop's wife. Is it related to the escalating gang violence in Birmingham or made to look that way? And Jess is still being threatened but by whom? Can Dan and Jess keep their feelings to themselves or are sparks still flying? You so need to read this series. I can't wait to start Book 5, which will be in the next day or so. The books in the series just keep getting better and better and truly can't wait to see what Debra has in store for us next. I truly feel these characters come to life with each new book. I feel like they are real people and it plays out like a movie in my mind. Takes a lot of talent to achieve that in a book. Thank you for bringing Faces of Evil to us!!!!!
in this fourth book in the series, Jess and team are tracking down the killer of a cop's wife. The woman was decapitated in an attempt to mimic recent gang violence in Birmingham, but that does not fool Jess. This was personal. The case is complicated by the fact that the only possible witness is an auttistic child, who thinks the killer was an angel.
This series is just so good. I really feel like I know these folks. Jess was not wound quite so tight in this one as she becomes more comfortable in her new job. She is also learning that relying on others for some things is not a sign of weakness. I like the growing relationships in the story. The mystery in this one is pretty good and there is the continuing hunt for a serial killer. Looking forward to the next one.
Rage is the fourth installment in Debra Webb's Faces of Evil series. This is not a stand alone book, you really need to read the previous three to understand the dynamics of this book. That being said, this is a great thriller! There are so many dynamics at play here. Not only the romantic struggle between Jess and Dan, but Jess and Eric Spears, the serial killer that has defined her career. The intricate side plots are woven beautifully with the main plot of Jess on the trail of the murder of a Birmingham P.D.'s wife. These books flow really well and are incredibly quick reads. I highly recommend this series to anyone looking for a great thriller.
Once again Ms. Webb does not disappoint in the fourth installment of book #4 of Faces of Evil.
Although this book wasn't as chilling as previous books it was no less gruesome and fast paced. I read it in approximately one day.
I like the characters Jess, Dan, Lori, and Chet. Especially Jess and Dan that they're of a more mature age with pasts that they're working through and hopefully because I'm a romantic can make a go of it while fighting crime.
I can't wait to find out what's going to happen in the next book!
Rage The story picks up when the wife of one of Birmingham's finest is brutally murdered in her home with a baby sleeping in the next room and the only witness Devon, is an eight year old autistic boy. Frustration is kicked into high gear for Jess and her team as they try to figure out motive behind the murder of a women who was liked by everyone. Excellent!! Just like the others "Rage" so full of excitement it was hard to put it down. I look forward to the next in the series.
Jess is back for the 4th installment of the Faces of Evil series! A cop's wife is decapitated in Birmingham and Jess must find the killer before he or she strikes again. Is it someone in the police department or a gang hit? I really enjoyed the story line, and it was refreshing to get away from Eric Spears for a bit. Great book, can't wait for the next one, Revenge that comes out in July!
How Debra Webb does it I will never know! Each book is better than the last! Jess and Dan are still clashing at work with the Birmingham PD while wanting to get their personal relationship sorted out. With all of the upheaval going on Jess lands another case where she is going to tick more people off. What is a girl to do?
Another lacklustre book. I've been having another little slump. This was very tame and the plot seemed a bit circular. There was too much emphasis on the romance this time which is boring me senseless. I was really hoping this series would be dark and gritty, and while it started out that way it has fizzled for me. I will try one more book and if it doesn't measure up I am done.
I was able to read the first 4 books of Faces of Evil back to back. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about a city in my home state where I knew the area the characters traveled. Debra Webb is a wonderful and fascinating writer and I search for her books continually.
I am enjoying Debra Webb faces of evil series. I like her characters and the setting of Birmingham AL. Somehow I fine it parallel to the series The Closer. Jess is the deputy chief of major crimes. She carries a big purse, wears nice clothes... Nobody likes her in her job.
A great series. After reading so many love stories this book was defiantly a good step in a different direction. Still has other aspects like an underlying romance and humor but the mystery is exciting and entertaining. Ready for book five.
Excellent book. I really love this series and the fact that it does not skip any time between books. I don't want Webb to end the series. I love the plots and the characters. Great books.
I really enjoy reading Debra Webb and Rage did not disappoint! The only downside to this book is that it ends.....can't wail to read Revenge!! Obsolutely love Jess Harris and Dan Burnett!!!
Deb nails it again. If you've read the other three Faces of Evil books, you'll love this one. And if you haven't read them yet, what are you waiting for?
