Special Agent Bella Jordan is assigned to investigate a series of murders in West Texas that are linked to the Spider Rock Treasure. Since she spent the first fifteen years of her life in this area, FBI authorities believe she can get the job done. What they don’t know is that one of their prime suspects—a man who’s been on their wanted list for years—is deeply connected to Bella’s past.
The other prime suspect is Carr Sullivan, the man who owns the ranch where the murders occurred. Carr was once one of the wealthiest businessmen in Dallas and has a shady past a mile long. But it appears he’s turned his life around. Can Bella trust him, or is he just trying to cover his tracks?
As Bella probes deeper into the case, threats on her own life convince her the killer is someone she knows. But it soon becomes clear he’s not working alone, and she’ll need to face the past she’s tried so desperately to forget in order to solve the case and prevent more murders.

The third book to wrap up the “Call of Duty” series, PURSUIT OF JUSTICE surrounds itself in intrigue and a family controversy that promises to be difficult to untangle.

I must admit that I was personally not as impressed with PURSUIT OF JUSTICE as the previous two books in this series. While the book is a normal novel length, I didn’t fly through it on the wings of the suspense. I thought the heroine was kind of flat. She just didn’t have a great deal of dimension and depth to her. I couldn’t really see her growth beyond accepting Christ. The tension between her normal life and the job just wasn’t there.

The hero, Carr, was an interesting character and I saw his struggles and identified with them. Though I have never been charged with murder, I understood his anger and desperation.

I wasn’t completely disappointed in this book. There was still the suspense and danger angle. Who really committed the crime, etc. So many dead bodies, though!

In the previous books I have not minded reading about a woman in a macho type role, it was very well portrayed, this one however, in my humble opinion, was just not carried off to the degree as its preceding titles.

This review is my honest opinion. Thanks to the publishers for my copy to review.

Another Christian-themed romance mystery from the pen of DiAnn Mills, "Pursuit of Justice is the third of the three book "Call of Duty" series, but easily can be read as a stand alone...FBI agent returns to her Southwest Texas roots, to investigate murders committed by a criminal on their watch list...Lost treasure, more murders and a mysterious handsome rancher all provide a decent read!

I really enjoy DiAnn Mills' books whether historical romances or contemporary suspense, I'm rarely disappointed. Her latest book is Pursuit of Justice, the third installment of the contemporary suspense series, Call of Duty. While not as believable a story and not as much romance as the previous books I still enjoyed it.

First off if you have an aversion to reading about murder and corpses turning up you might want to steer clear of this story. It's not graphic but it's probably not for the most sensitive of readers. That said even though there were a lot of murders I felt that they were almost skimmed over. I don't like grisly stuff but I like to read details that involve CSI, forensics, and things like in suspense novels and that just wasn't present in this story. I will say this however, usually I can pick out the "bad guy" pretty quickly but Ms. Mills threw me off! I was genuinely surprised by who one of the villains turned out to be!

The characters themselves, Bella and Carr, weren't the most dynamic and original but still I had an interest in them and what would happen with their lives. I knew right away that Carr, the reformed bad boy/ladies man would be a favorite of mine and he was. Bella, was a tough as nails girl which is what one expects of an FBI agent so she didn't disappoint in that sense but I felt rather detached. She was almost too tough! While she finds redemption by the end of the story I felt that everything wrapped up too quickly. With the lifelong difficulties that she faced with her father which shaped her life, I felt that one or two chapters at the end didn't do them justice. Don't get me wrong I still enjoyed this book and DiAnn Mills is still a go to author of mine this just wasn't my favorite. I'm really looking forward to seeing what direction she takes with her next series.

"Pursuit of Justice" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. It's the third in a series, but it works as a stand alone novel.

Bella returns to confront her past when the FBI is called to investigate several murders related to a long hidden buried treasure. She personally knows several of the men who would kill to get the treasure. More than one may be involved--including her father and the man who plans to kidnap Bella once he's got the treasure.

She asked questions and looked for evidence while avoiding repeated attempts to shoot her. She also had to deal with her unforgiving attitude toward her father based on how he treated her as a child. She's not interested in marriage, but she enjoys Carr's company enough to rethink that.

Carr struggled with why God would allow the murders to happen on his property. His reputation is ruined just when his plans for building a ranch for at-risk kids was coming together. He struggled with his temper, which has gotten him into trouble in the past, and he's also a target for the bad guys.

There was some mystery about the identity of one of the bad guys. There was was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this exciting novel.

I read the first two in this series a while back, and was glad to see the third and final one in the Call of Duty series was available on Hoopla from my library. I read the first one way back in 2010, and the second in 2014 (one free, the second via Amazon Prime, since my local library has none of these in print). Each are basically stand-alone, good reads. About a female law enforcement officer. This one focused on FBI agent Bella Jordan, out of the Houston office, who returns to the rural West Texas town she grew up in, chasing those searching for buried treasure, and ready to kill anyone and everyone in their path to find the gold. I didn't figure all of this one out, so it was a very enjoyable read for me, kept me guessing!

This is the third and last book in this series but I believe they can all work as a stand alone. This one has as the main characters an FBI Agent, Bella and a Rancher, Carr, who is a reformed party animal. Bella is looking to settle an old score with her father and his sidekick who had mistreated her as a child. This book has lots of mystery and suspense with lots of twists and suspicious characters. The author keeps you guessing until the end who the bad guys are and if the old tale of buried treasure is fact or fiction. It also has a thread of romance which I loved. I enjoyed this book and recommend this whole series.

DiAnn Mills has done it again. Another great book. Although it was clear (to me ) from very early on who the guilty party was, how was apprehended and how the story would play out wasn't apparent and kept me intrigued to the very end.

The Real Treasure

You think you have it all figured out and then something else happens. Rachel is a FBI Agent and Carr a Rancher. A book to read. It is suspenseful right to the end.

I enjoyed all of DiAnn Mills novels and have started on another series. This story was fascinating with the twists and the descriptions of central Texas. Her characters were good and all in all I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Justice in the end

I enjoyed the mystery and the thread of forgiveness woven into relationships. The happy ending always makes it a good read for me even though in real life God doesn't always promise us a Hallmark moment.

This can definitely be read as a stand-alone. There is no hint of it being part of a series, which I really appreciate as it can be read on its own without wondering who the secondary characters are. I liked this one. Not as much as some of her other books, but I liked it and I recommend it.

Wonderfully written!

DiAnn Mills has delivered yet another terrific book in Pursuit of Justice. I actually had a hard time liking Bella, but that didn't stop the pages from turning! Maybe I didn't like her character because she seemed so much like me: stubborn, independent, and controlling (even though I try not to be!). Bella's reluctance to give her life to God stemmed from events in her childhood. I can identify with that and it makes me squirm. While my circumstances were different than Bella's, her story hit close to home for me. Yet woven into the story are some great truths and lots of wisdom. When I finished reading this book, I felt like I had come out of the experience a better person; like it was me who went through everything instead of Bella. My story is different of course, but in relating Bella's story to my own, the wisdom shown by DiAnn Mills made me really contemplate my own life experiences and my walk with God. In essence, this book was personal to me, yet still a wonderfully written mystery/romance that kept me up into the wee hours reading! I gave this book four stars because some of the information/experiences just didn't seem to mesh. FBI protocol is much more stringent than this book portrays. I also found that some of the characters were seriously lacking in any true roll to this story. Vic, for instance, was a character that didn't make any contribution to the plot and would have better been left out all together. Frank was a weak character that popped up out of nowhere and had no background, so to speak, except for a supposedly old relationship with Bella. That part really didn't add anything to the book and actually kind of bogged it down a bit. Still, I would recommend this book to readers who are looking for a great Christian mystery/romance novel! Thank you, DiAnn Mills!

Every so often, I enjoy reading a book for my own pleasure.  Considering how many homeschool related items come through the house, it is amazing that I can find the time for pleasure reading.  Actually, I've occasionally stayed up late just to get my fix.

This title provides the thrill of a suspense or mystery novel while intertwining the lead character's struggle with her burgeoning Christian faith.  Set in Texas and using a real legend, the Spider Rock Treasure, the story draws readers into FBI Agent Bella Jordan's struggle to find a killer in an area she fled as a teenager.

Overall, this is a story I really enjoyed.

The plot had enough twists and turns that you might not see what is coming next.  There is also an illustration of people who are at different stages in their faith life.  In such a short story, it is hard to do justice for an individual's acceptance of Christ in their lives.

Ms. Mills does a reasonable job presenting Bella's first steps toward living as a Christian.  She doesn't have her just turn on a dime, but rather has struggles with how to adjust her lifestyle choices to fit with her interpretation of Christian living.

There is also an element of romance with Bella's attraction to a suspect.  Like other Christian novels I have read, this one does not have the couple engaging in "inappropriate" behavior.  However, there is an allusion to past indiscretions for some of the characters.   Including this element really makes the story seem more realistic as we are all sinners and have fallen at times.  It is through picking ourselves up, confessing the sin, atoning as needed, and then going out to sin no more which a hallmark of a Christian.
