Based in the UK, Neil Daniels has written about rock, metal and pop culture for a wide range of magazines, fanzines and websites.

He has penned books on Judas Priest, Robert Plant, Linkin Park, Bon Jovi and Journey, and co-authored Dawn Of The Metal Gods: My Life In Judas Priest & Heavy Metal with original Judas Priest singer/co-founder Al Atkins. His third book on Judas Priest is Rock Landmarks: Judas Priest's British Steel.

His acclaimed series, All Pens Blazing: A Rock & Heavy Metal Writer's Handbook Volumes I & II, collects over a hundred original and exclusive interviews with some of the world's most famous rock and heavy metal scribes. His other duel collection, Rock 'N' Roll Mercenaries - Interviews With Rock Stars Volumes I & II, compiles over sixty interviews with many well-known rock stars and rock writers.

His books have so far been translated into Brazilian, Bulgarian, Czech, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish and Swedish with more foreign titles in the works.

A very cool history one of the greatest metal bands of all time. The text was broken up with shots from Maiden shows and pics of various tour posters, relics from the band's past, and album reviews. I had a blast learning more about the background of one of my favorite bands and seeing just how influential Maiden has been on the metal genre. I recommend for metal fans of all kinds! \m/

Tartuin uuden levyn ilmestymisen kunniaksi tähän vuosia sitten lahjaksi saamaani kirjahyllyssä tähän saakka toimettomana lojuneeseen Iron Maiden -historiikkiteokseen. Kirja on sinänsä ulkoisesti ihan hieno ja sen upeita kuvia on kiva katsella, mutta toteutus ei nyt kyllä tekstisisällön osalta ihan vakuuttanut. En tiedä, johtuuko se vain kehnosta suomennoksesta, mutta huonon kirjoittamisen lisäksi kirjassa vilisee myös karkeita ja amatöörimäisiä asiavirheitä, jotka vievät uskottavuutta oikeastaan koko sisällöltä. Asiavirheiden lisäksi teoksessa tilaa sai myös joukko todella omituisia mielipiteitä ja kommentteja, joiden sisällyttämiselle kirjaan en itse näe mitään syytä (kuten esimerkiksi Paul Di'Annon haastattelu vuodelta 2009, jossa hän tylyttää nyky-Maidenin kaupallisuutta 30 vuotta omien potkujensa jälkeen ja hehkuttaa sitä, että tekisi itse paljon parempia biisejä). Jokaisen albumin kohdalle liitetyt levyarvostelut ovat myös täysin tyhjänpäiväisiä ja herättävät kaikkitietävässä sävyssään lähinnä ärsytystä. Ketä kiinnostaa lukea jonkun toisen tylytystä omista suosikkikappaleista tai hehkutusta inhokeista ikään kuin ne olisivat yleisiä totuuksia?

Lisäksi teoksessa on varsin outo ja vaivaannuttava tapa haukkua muita yhtyeitä kehnoiksi ja siten pyrkiä kiillottamaan Maidenia, vaikkei tähän ole pitkän ja kunniakkaan uran vuoksi mitään tarvetta. Tietynlainen fanipoikamaisuus paistaakin kirjasta läpi ja itse olisin kaivannut neutraalimpaa näkökantaa, sillä nyt tuntuu kuin kirjoittajan agendana olisi ollut lähinnä vakuuttaa jokainen lukija siitä, että Iron Maiden on paras yhtye ikinä missään (en toki tätä kiellä).

Suosittelen ehdottomasti tutustumaan mieluummin Mick Wallin mainioon teokseen Run to the Hills. Tälle annoin toisen tähden lähinnä kivoista kuvista.

Wielkim plusem tego opracowania jest bardzo ładna szata graficzna. Książka aż kipi od zdjęć, co przy bardziej suchych biografiach nastawionych głównie na fakty, jest miłą odmianą. Oczywiście odbywa się to kosztem ilości informacji, jakie można zamieścić, więc wszystko zależy od tego, czego się tak naprawdę oczekuje. Dla spragnionych dokładnej wiedzy o historii Iron Maiden - polecam "Run to the Hills" Micka Walla, a dla tych, którzy aż tak dużo wiedzieć nie muszą, ale za to cenią sobie kolorowe obrazki - ta odsłona będzie idealna :)

Wybrane setlisty, plakaty, bilety, koszulki... czego tam nie ma. Aż miło popatrzeć i cieszyć się, że również brało się udział w tych wspaniałych widowiskach.

Tämä kirja on Iron Maiden -fanille erinomainen paketti historiaa. Yhtyeen tarina kerrotaan alusta alkaen aina vuoteen 2011 asti. Pari vuotta sitten tullutta päivitystä ei ole ilmeisesti julkaistu suomennettuna, joten tällä mennään. Toisaalta, viime vuosina ei Maidenilla ole paljoa ihmeellistä tapahtunut. Kirja on pullollaan kuvia yhtyeestä, keikkapaidoista, -lipuista ja kaikista bändin soittamista keikoista.

Kirjassa on myös Minervan kustantamille kirjoille tuttuja virheitä, jotka tuppaavat ärsyttämään lukuhetkellä, mutta niitä tuskin muistaa enää myöhemmin. Suosittelen tätä kaikille, joita Iron Maiden ja vanha kunnon brittiläinen heavy metal kiinnostaa.

Iron Maiden - Koko ura olisi mukiinmenevä pikakatsaus bändin historian, ellei kirjaa olisi pahoinpidelty törkeän huonolla kustannustoimittamisella. Tavalliset oikeinkirjoitus- ja huolimattomuusvirheet jaksaisi vielä antaa anteeksi, mutta kun kirjoittaja alkaa muistella laulaja Harrisonin (?) 90-luvun soololevyjä, tai valittelee miten bändin suosio uuden solistin Blaze Barnyardin (?) aikana sukelsi, alkavat ärräpäät karkailla. Asiallisen kuvamateriaalinsa ansiosta kirja ajaa kuitenkin jotenkuten asiansa ns. kahvipöytäkirjana.

Kenellekään aiheesta kiinnostuneelle suosittelisin ennemmin Mick Wallin varsin pätevää Run to the Hills -opusta

Para que ainda não conhece a história da banda é um bom início. O livro começa bem, com alguns detalhes interessantes do início da carreira com as constantes trocas de formação, porém passa muito rapidamente pela discografia da banda, sem trazer muitos detalhes das produções. Ritmo um pouco acelerado na metade do livro. Ao final fica mais interessante nas análises dos álbuns.

Para os "iniciados" não traz nenhuma novidade sobre os bastidores da banda.

O melhor são as imagens, recheado de fotos e Eddies por todo lado.
