In the twisted town of New Port City, the only thing the population of criminals and murderers need is the cruel icon of injustice and amoral behavior: Bomb Queen! But political outsider, Robert Woods, believes the citizens need peace and equality, so he does the unthinkable - brings a hero to town.
Bomb Queen has killed all of the heroes in New Port City and ran the city through its mayor for the last 10 years. When a new crusading mayoral candidate throws his hat in the ring, things begin to turn sour for Bomb Queen. This is quite crude, with clothes being ripped off during fights and lots of sexual innuendo from Bomb Queen. I think this is meant to be some kind of satire but it didn't work as such.
A skimpy outfit, nipple slips and profanity don't make a good comic by themselves. You still need a solid story and better-than-average artwork. At least it's a fast read.
Bomb Queen has taken over New Port City and, as its ruler, has instituted laws that allow Crime Zones where people can get killed for entertainment. Robert Woods, a politician, is fihting against this, so he secretly bribes a superhero, Ace Justice, to get rid of Bomb Queen.
The angle of the Villainess in charge of a city is the great twist on this unique story. It was fast paced with very little in the way of slow placing. The panels were formulaic with no real "Umph" to them, very standardized. It was heavy with dialogue, which isn't a bad thing. The dialogue was snappy and certainly pushes the envelope, but borders on being too crude. This story is loaded with naked bodies, breasts, and rude puns to make you laugh.
Not funny. Not sexy. Just a collection of outdated puns, meaningless satire and cringe worthy dialogues. But I'll still read the next volume, coz that's how bad my life sucks. (and my library has the whole collection)
This comic was awful. I regret reading it, entirely. It was unfunny, uninspired and filled with lame attempts to shock.
The gimmick is that Bomb Queen is a supervillain who runs unopposed in the city. The mayor is up for election and his opponent is threatening to remove Bomb Queen in any way he can. She takes offence and that's the entire story.
The first pages offer some wonderful story-building and interesting mythos to Bomb Queen's history - there were originally other "queens" who turned hero and she took them out - and explain that the city has "Crime Zones", similar to the danger areas in Battle Royale in which crime is basically legal. This is all very interesting, but the storytellers focus on pedophilia, rape and incest jokes to remain edgy. Bomb Queen is a flat, flat character. She has no personality and has this perpetual shit-eating grin. She does not seem to get injured in battle and her skimpy clothes simply fall off when she is hurt. If this were a part of her powers or character - that she is invulnerable to everything, even her own explosives and the punches from superheroes - then that would make her interesting. Her only friend and ally seems to be a cat. That would be interesting. The fact that the rest of the city see her as the lesser of two evils is interesting.
The artist and writer focus on dick and fart jokes. And boobs and butts.
This is not a good comic and the majority of its failures lie on the fact that the genuinely exciting aspects of the story and character are ignored so that we can see a KKK member threaten to anally violate old women with impunity. Please, please, please, do not waste the twenty minutes it took me to read this nonsense. For real. Watch paint dry or something. That's far more enlightening than this rubbish.
There are a lot of problems with this book. First, there is a fine line between edgy and trying way too hard to be edgy. This book falls solidly in the latter camp. Next, Bomb Queen herself is such a badly written character. Even if your main protagonist is a villain, the audience still needs a reason to root for them--otherwise, what's the point of reading the story? Bomb Queen, however, is a totally unlikable sociopath who throws a fit when she doesn't get what she wants. Added to this is the fact that she is a major Mary Sue. She is totally invincible, untouchable, unable to be out thought, unable to be out maneuvered, has whatever high-tech gadget she needs at any time, and seems to have whatever powers and abilities are required of the plot at that specific moment. Finally, the writing is pretty bad but that doesn't really matter because the plot is so simplistic and pointless that you can Just look at the pictures without reading any of the dialog and you will seriously be able to follow along with the story just fine. I will give it an extra star because the art actually wasn't terrible and clothes behaved realistically in battle (the reason for this, of course, is to show some cheesecake. It just bothers me that a character like Luke Cage can take a shotgun blast to the chest and his discount T-shirt is unscathed). I don't think, however, that I will be reading many more adventures of Bomb Queen after this.
New Port City doesn't have a resident superhero, but it does have a resident supervillain named Bomb Queen. The Bomb Queen is completely amoral and callous, doing whatever she wants without repercussion since she has the mayor, the local police and the media under her thumb. However, a new mayoral candidate seeks to challenge the hierarchy of power in the city, leading to the Queen's first conflict in quite some time.
The story is crude, silly and somewhat humorous, though I felt it could have leaned into the crudeness, silliness and humor more. It also feels like we're dropped midway into the story since there is some background into how the Bomb Queen took over New Port City that is entirely glossed over. The artwork is also rather bland, though it does get the job done somewhat. While this could have been an interesting spin on the tights-and-capes genre, the final product is rather dry unfortunately.
Absolute trash, and not the fun kind. Rape and pedophilia jokes galore, badly drawn nudity and gravity defying costumes. This definitely didn't age well, but it started pretty low to begin with.
What if joker was a lady who ruled a city and loved T&A in-between blowing people up just for laughs? Yes this is dumb fun reading but it actually had a surprisingly good plot and will read more.
Villainess Bomb Queen does things her way in New Port City. Crime is legal, raunchy behavior is accepted, and the mayor goes through more secretaries in a week than the Queen goes through men. Yet the new mayoral cadidate has decided to change things up - and brings a hero into New Port in a ploy to shift the balance his way. As he finds out, the rules don't apply to the Queen - and the fight for control of the City becomes explosive!
The back of the trade reads "Not for children (or squeamish adults)" I'm not a child, or a squeamish adult, but this still wasn't for me. Not sure who did the lettering for these issues but their choice of font size and word balloon placement dropped this from a 2 star book to where it sits.
If the lettering would have been a little more polished I might have given this series another chance, as it is, off to the sell pile.
I haven't read a lot of comic books but seem to be attracted to twisted off-beat graphic ones. Needless to say, I love this sexy bad-tempered kick-ass women villain. I giggled several times while reading it and loved when she kicked the male superhero's asses. Granted, I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of tea but I enjoyed it immensely!
