Ruiz was named one of the Watkins 100 Most Spiritually Influential Living People in 2018. He also co-authored The Fifth Agreement with his son José Ruiz and has continued to write and teach on personal freedom and love.
I LOVE this book. It is an inspirational book from a non-traditional perspective. It is not based on religion, or doctrine just about developing (or maintaining) a strong love for God The Creator and for self. Anyone who is in search of inspiration will find this book a useful and practical guide during life's journey.
Le livre apporte de très belles valeurs sur certains points et a cet effet relaxant lors de la lecture. Néanmoins j'ai trouvé certaines réflexions sur le mariage ou autre peu réfléchies et limite parachuté.
I had never heard of Don Miguel Ruiz when a friend let me borrow this minuscule book. After the first chapter, I went searching to find out if Ruiz was a part of a larger movement. Sure enough, he was: New Thought. Reading about it gave me further clarity into the style and content of this tract-like prayer book.
I won't lie—my first reaction to this was a hearty eye roll. While New Thought might be an attractive alternative—a balm, even—for those healing from otherwise orthodox or "mainstream" religious trauma, I had a hard time buying in; not, as some might suppose, due to an adherence to the comforts of tradition, but because this line of thinking is unmoored from any tradition or substantive anchor at all, beyond what Ruiz seems to have thought up himself. It's diet mysticism-lite.
Don't be mistaken: it's not the somewhat fluid, airy, almost cosmic way in which Ruiz writes that annoys me; it's the way in which he speaks with such moral certainty about assertions that have no other backing than his attempt at co-opting semi-religious, semi-spiritual language to prop up his notions. Don't get me wrong, some of his ideas are, in fact, healing, and tinged with the influence of healthy psychology.
Mostly, though, this little book became a toilsome travail to get through.
This a great devotional to our Creator and how to showcase our love to others, our bodies, and more importantly to Him.
I greatly enjoyed the passage about caring for our physical bodies, the living temples to our Father, and to respect them as well as to love them. I will keep this part dear to my heart since society (or this world) focuses on false perceptions of body image, and be grateful for the body you have. I am learning to pay more attention to it too.
This author never fails to make you feel good inside, see true happiness, and the love we so greatly need. I will keep this devotion to read when I so need it. "kingdom of heaven" is here on Earth that happiness with our humanity; happy with ourselves.
I loaned “The Four Agreements” by Miguel Ruiz to my dad and he didn’t like it, so it inclined me to brush up on Ruiz’s writing (and, of course, I could always use the spiritual inspiration in the meantime.)
I enjoyed this book. Although the writing is simplistic, it’s definitely intended to be slowly and thoroughly read.
Ruiz has apprenticed with a shaman and now shares this ancestral wisdom. It’s not for everybody, but it’s healing and therapeutic reading if your mind is open to it.
An affirmation for me. I have always* believed in the power of prayer. . . --From A Reader's Journal, by d r melbie.
*12/11/10 Note: Not anymore! In going through my old journals, I am starting to see the progression that led me to become an atheist. If you read enough of my reviews -- especially starting in the summer of 2008 -- you will see a journey of enlightenment unfolding. . .
MIguel Ruiz is a wonderful writer, and an inspiration. I read one of these chapters a day for a month or so, on repeat. It was a perfect way to start the day and to get my mind right. I don't think this one will be leaving my bedside table for quite a while.
The author of The Four Agreements put together a pocket-size book of meditations and simple lessons. A great pick-me-up when I only have a few moments and need to reconnect.
Absolutely fantastic book. A great resource to help you connect more deeply with God, others, and yourself. Poetic and beautiful - grateful that I had the opportunity to read this book!
Being a big fan of Don Miguel Ruiz, this book is a must have for me. It is perfect for reading when you're having a bad day, or struggling with something, big or small.
