Lots of human drama in this issue - on top of all the zombie drama! One of the reasons I like this series so much is the time that is spent on developing the characters; you really feel like you know the people - and when one of them dies it hits you hard. Our group is at a farm while Carl is recovering from a gunshot wound. Things seem to be going better - but the cover of the next issue tells me it won't last for long.

After an unexpected encounter with a stranger leads Rick to almost lose his son, they all travel to this farm that can supposedly help them. Here we meet Hershel Greene, and his children: Lacey, Arnold, Maggie, Billy, Rachel, and Susie. The stranger’s name is Otis, and we meet his girlfriend, Patricia, as well. As Carl heal they get to stay at the farm. Their secret is a shocking one… 👁️👄👁️ Finally, Maggie is in the comics!! She was one of my favorite character’s on the show and I can’t wait to see Maggie and Glenn’s relationship in the comics. (If there is one lol). Happy reading!♥️

Otis takes Rick to the farm.

Maggie doesn't come for Lori. Instead, Tyreese leads the way cuz Otis told them how to find Hershel's farm.

Hershel gets the bullet out of Carl with ease.

Hershel kids are:

Lacy - Oldest daughter
Arnold - Son
Maggie - Daughter
Billy - youngest son
Rachel and Susie - youngest daughters

Otis and Patricia look a lot younger and the book. They are also only dating.

Otis and Patricia were at Wilshire Estates when the zombies overran the place.

Sophia does not go missing and is there when Carl wakes up.

Dale tells Lori if the baby is Shane's then she shouldn't tell Rick.

Glenn tells Maggie that he had the hots for Carol but he can't do anything about it because now she is Tyreese's girlfriend.

He tells her that on the porch. It reminds me of the praying scene. Instead it is the "I'll have sex with you scene" that happens at the drug store.

Hershel's wife didn't get bit. She died 6 years ago.

Hershel tells Rick that the farm was his Dad's and he doesn't appear to hold a grudge against him.

Rick asks if his party can stay in the barn and Hershel right there admits that is where they keep the 'Dead Ones'.

Being a huge fan of the show, I wanted to see how the original writing started and how the show writers followed and deviated from the comics. My dislikes were that the comics are much more crude, crass, and unnecessarily violent. I did like the change in relationships and how people worked together differently, and the comics have a different creepiness feel than you get watching it on TV. Overall, I prefer the show, and probably will not finish out the comic book series.

Don't think I expected Glenn to have his sights set on Carol at first but yay for Glenn/Maggie. Allen was a bit rude to Andrea but I love how much stronger comic Andrea is compared to how tv Andrea was. I half wish they had drawn out the barn reveal for a few more issues though. That was the one down side to this issue.

This is a review of the entire series.

Rick Grimes is a strong-willed deputy who missed the end of the world because he was in a coma for a month after getting shot in the line of duty. Shaken, starving and confused, Rick escapes the horror of the abandoned hospital only to be met with something far more terrible. Not only has the world ended, but the dead have learned to walk and to kill without mercy. After learning that his wife and son have fled to Atlanta from a single survivor and his son, Rick goes on a journey to reunite with his family and search for more survivors.

Rick quickly has to come to terms with the fact that the world has ended and only a select few survived. The dead have risen from their graves and they prey on the living. In a world where every minute feels like hours, where there's no such thing as law and order, where finding a small meal is a tremendous task, the walking dead are quite possibly the least threatening thing for the survivors to have on their breaking minds. Humanity is pushed to the brink of destruction, forcing them to embrace their cruel and primal nature in order to survive. Sometimes you have to be more concerned about who you let into your community so they don't kill you in your sleep and steal everything you once cared about. Rick has no choice but to abandon the ways of law and order that he's upheld as an officer for so long in order to protect the few loved ones he has left. He has to become a monster to protect his crew or risk being devoured by those who became more monstrous than him and even the walking dead.

Despite zombies running the world and having the series named after them, what really sets this series apart from the average zombie apocalypse tale is the focus on realism and the daily struggles, flaws and depth of the characters. There's plenty of badass zombie killing action, but the action often takes a back seat to give the characters plenty of times to share their extremely tragic yet endearing stories, grow through mutual suffering and learn to adapt to a world that has left them to die. Even after the world has ended, many people still can't see eye to eye. They turn on each other and kill each other when they should come together. Others form alliances in spite of their differences and try to rebuild over the corpse of everything that was lost. The daily human drama and conflict is more intense than any monster apocalypse could hope to be.

We watch Rick struggle to balance his old moral code with the many necessary evils he has to commit in order to survive and make the world a better place for the ones he holds close. We watch people like Glen, Dale and Maggie attempt to find love in spite of having every reason to be filled with fear, hate and self-loathing. Characters like Michonne have to learn how to forgive themselves and convince themselves they deserve to be loved despite all the blood on their hands. We watch the weak like Carl and Andrea become strong and sometimes the strong become evil like The Governor. Even monsters like the wicked yet oddly lovable Negan are given the chance to find new ways of redeeming themselves by struggling alongside the other survivors that have all been changed by the horrors of the fallen world.

The pacing is extremely slow and I can understand why that may be a turnoff for a lot of people, but I eventually learned to enjoy watching the characters grow, overcome their trauma, find meaning in life and learn to love again. The characters are forced to do many terrible things to survive and it haunts them every waking moment. The ways they overcome these regrets is very realistic, human and hopeful. The slow pacing really gives the feeling that we're living beside these people. The way every tiny detail of their lives and who they are is explored makes them feel very real and believable.

When I first started reading the series, I wasn't expecting it to have such an uplifting ending. It seemed so bleak and nihilistic for a long time and things would go horribly wrong even when they seemed to be going so well, but the finale channels all the pain, suffering and betrayal of the previous volumes and tops it off with a very touching and inspiring finish. This was never a story about hopelessness. It's about learning to appreciate the little things, learning to forgive yourself and learning to move on even when it's hard. When everything seems lost there's always more to be found, even when we believe otherwise because we convince ourselves that we don't deserve to be happy ever again. Instead of dwelling on what was lost, strive to try and make things better than they were before.

I've never been a huge fan of zombie apocalypse stories, but The Walking Dead had enough heart and strong social commentary to make me stick by the characters until the end and I enjoyed every moment of their long trial.

This issue was more about getting to know the Greene's; Hershel, Maggie & the rest that I've already forgotten the names of. Carl basically recovers from getting shot, it seemed a lot less dramatic compared to the show, not sure if I liked that though.
Glenn and Maggie finally meet, and well, and then some.
I hope the next issue is a little more exciting.

While there are similarities between the graphic novels and the tv series there are many differences. We are introduced to Hershel - a beloved character in the tv series and the farm. Andrea uses her backbone. Carl is healing. Glenn and Maggie hit it off. Again, a short lived bit of peace is found.

Nota: 9,5.

This is so fast paced and to the point, been at the farm for 10 minutes and Herschel dropped the bomb on ‘the dead ones’.

How long until they all realise it’s NOT going to blow over?

Carl was hurt in the last issue but it seems that he will come out of his close encounter with death.

The Best. Carl is alive thanks to Hershel Greene. They found a FARM that they are welcome to with food!! After Carl wakes up and Tyreese gives him his hat back Carl TOTALLY looks like the lone ranger, mask and all! Sophia, Carol's daughter, has a crush on Carl and kisses his check, to which Carl does the natural boy thing and says its gross. Glenn and Maggie! I'm not even going to explain more than that, because come on those two are just two sickly cute together.

The Worst. Glenn! Before he talks to Maggie, his was kinda starting to worry me a bit. With all the awkward staring all the time at Carol. Chris and Julie. I actually side with Tyreese on his over baring father stance with not wanting his daughter, Julie and Chris to hook up. I mean come on, the world has gone to shit, the dead are walking and trying to eat you and your still holding onto the whole "Fine, we'll play it your way.. But I don't want to wait forever." Come on creeper with the beginning of a pedo-stache! I know I'm putting in the worst section cause hey its bad. Having a barn full of walkers is a major danger risk, but the way Robert Kirkman wrote Hershel saying it, its like its a passing phase or no big deal.

The Differences. I mentioned on the last issue, Otis shoots Carl in both the comic and the TV series, however, in the TV series it was an honest mistake, he was actually shooting a deer and didn't even see Carl standing there. Tyreese wasn't there like I said before, so he wasn't the one that went and told Lori. That was Maggie on horseback, after Rick and Otis brought Carl to Hershel's farm. The whole Dale conversation with Lori I think some what did happen here and there. He wasn't as forceful about it as he is here. Glenn was never pining over Carol. In the TV series by the time they get to Hershel's farm her husband Ed is dead and her daughter Sophia is missing which was why they were so close to Hershel's farm in the first place. They were searching the woods in the area for her. Also, Hershel didn't confide in Rick right away about the barn having walkers in it. In fact, it wasn't until after Glenn and Maggie were going to hook up a second time and meet in the barn that it was discovered. Glenn tells Dale, Dale confronts Hershel, and then Glenn with Dale's help tells the rest of the group.

Those Remembered. The wasted bullet that shot Carl. We had a lot of exciting things happen in this issue, however, there were no walker kills and all of the group survived to see the safety of Hershel's farm.

Recommend: To the fans of anything zombie related, The Walking Dead Universe, and drama horror.

As usual, I'm loving the series so far and can't wait to read more.

Now, onto my review. Given that the dead have risen and the world has gone to shit, I would assume that even though the trek to the farm was only a mile, that they would run into some zombies before they got to the farm. How would Rick even begin to defend himself and Carl, with Carl in his arms?

Sure, they had Otis with them, but I do not think the guy would be much use for anything other than getting them to the farm where Hershel and the rest of his family live.

I hated how Lori immediately jumped to the wrong conclusion when Rick said that he hoped Carl was enjoying his break from the madness going on around them. She needs to get a damn grip and stop blaming Rick for everything, when HE is the one who has not done anything wrong, SHE has.

I did NOT like the part where Allen was cursing out Andrea. I feel like she should have drop kicked his ass down the street. Yes, he is grieving the death of his wife, Andrea is grieving the death of her sister and besides, Allen does not have the luxury of breaking down. He still has two son's that need him to look after them.

I laughed when Sophia kissed Carl and he was like, "Eww, gross!"

I did not like when Dale told Lori to lie about the baby and say it was Rick's baby. Rick has a right to know if the baby really is his child or not.

The whole conversation between Glenn and Maggie about hooking up, had me cracking up. Especially when Maggie just blurted out, "I'll fuck you." I was both shocked and amused.

Chris and Julie and them having sex is realistic but stupid on their part. I doubt Chris has condoms and it is not like there are any other forms of birth control available, to keep Julie from getting pregnant.

She can not just go to the doctor and get on the pill. It does not work that way anymore since things have gone to hell and almost all people and doctors are dead.

Also, Hershel and his family keeping zombies in their barn is one of the stupidest things ever. What if the zombies manage to get out of the barn somehow? Then Hershel and his family and Rick and his group will have zombies all over the place and they will get killed.

I just can not believe that Hershel and his family would do something so dangerous and so stupid as to lock up a bunch of zombies in a barn not too far from their house. That is freaking crazy!

Yeah, good thing the bullet only hit Carl in the shoulder. I knew it had to be something like that. I'm glad I was right. And I thought it was a tad hilarious that he was so cool about being shot. Seems like the kid is getting used to this strange new world thrust upon him. Sad, but also for the best I would think.

Our group has found another group. Otis, the guy who shot Carl, brought them to the farm he's been staying at with some dude named Hershel. Hershel was able to remove the bullet from Carl with very little issue. In fact ... so little went wrong in this issue that I am a little afraid of what is to come in the next *bites nails and picks up the next comic*

A whole lot happens in this issue. Herschel and his family are introduced. A romance of sorts begins. Just when they believe everything is good, a shocking revelation is made. The pace is definitely picking up.
