Waking up with a strange man is scary. Realizing you lost fifteen years of your life overnight? That's terrifying. With her memories from seventeen to thirty-two gone, Kate has no idea who she is and where she belongs. As she begins to fall for the man who found her, she wonders if she forgot those years for a reason. Should she keep trying to retrieve her original self, or start a new life?
I am a natural 1200 wpm speed reader and the author of twenty-three self-published novels including the free ebook "Life, Love, and a Polar Bear Tattoo" which has had over 400,000 downloads.
In my spare time, I read, run, swim, crochet, take care of my cat Pearl, and play drums and clarinet. Generally not all at once.
I only record books here if I absolutely love them and hugely recommend them. I definitely read more than you see here. :)
I enjoyed this story. It's the first of Heather Wardell's novels that I've read and I found it by reading an excerpt on Autumn Review's book blog. Chapter One hooked me.
A young woman wakes up naked in a strange man's bed, having no idea how she got there. More disturbingly, she believes she's a high school student. (She isn't) She has no memory of the past fifteen years.
So the story begins and it's an interesting one. The author explores the complexities of memory and identity, but she does so in a way that is enjoyable and thought-provoking. There are several twists that I did not see coming and the female lead must face some serious issues, but the narrative arc emphasizes the twin themes of redemption and forgiveness.
In addition, this story prompted me to reflect on the challenges human beings face in forgiving themselves and in making positive changes to their lives. I found the message of the novel to be positive, despite the disturbing situation the female lead finds herself in.
I'd recommend this novel, especially to those who enjoy Heather Huffman's books.
"I don't know who I am. I'm in a strange man's bedroom,with no idea who I am."
Kate sure is having the worst day of her life. She wakes up next to a stranger, no clothes on and no memory of how she ended up there! But to make things worse, she thinks she is 17 years old, while the mirror shows a mature woman in her 30's. She has no idea what's going on, why is she naked next to a stranger and how the hell did she age over night!
Jake, the guy she wakes up next to, tries to explain to her how he found her in front of the bar he works in and how he didn't take any advantage of her "situation". While trying to fill in the blanks of those 15 years she doesn't remember, he starts growing feelings for her. As for Kate, she may not remember who she is, but she definitely likes her hero Jake. BUT things are starting to get complicated as another man enters Kate's life claiming he's her husband and proving her she's not Kate, but Donna Merrill, from Ottawa, a CEO with a successful business!! Will she remember her old life, or continue being Blank Slate Kate - a woman with no memory, but one that can become anyone she wants?
I absolutely LOVED every page of this book! I literally couldn't stop myself from reading it, though I was sure I would be very very sad when I finish it. What I loved the most about it is the fact I couldn't really predict where the story will lead me! It's a perfect chick lit book, intelligently written with characters you will definitely love! The mystery element got me absolutely hooked and I just couldn't wait to find out which path will Kate (or is that Donna) choose. I assume it's too early to say this, since it's January and 2012 has just started, but I am absolutely sure about this - Blank Slate Kate is definitely one of the BEST books I read and will be reading in 2012! Mrs Wardell is an amazingly talented author, and I can't believe this is her 8th book written, but the first one I actually read. What was I doing all this time?? Anyway, one of my New Year's resolutions is READ ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING HEATHER WARDELL HAS WRITTEN SO FAR AND ANY BOOK SHE WILL WRITE IN THE FUTURE! With absolutely no doubt, I recommend this book to all romance and chick lit fans. Hmmmm, actually I recommend this book to EVERYONE! Yes, that's better!:)
Can't imagine this happening to me - being a blank slate. It has its appeal, forgetting portions of your past, but never mind, The story is all about a woman waking up knowing she was still 17, when in fact she's already 32, after a medical procedure wiped away the last 15 years of her life from her memory.
The way this was written, it made me not want to stop until I find out what happened. The writing was very light, and yet the subject matter was not.
What happened to Donna/Kate evoked a lot of confused feelings and reactions from within her. There were people in her lives that she counted on to help her recover her memory. In the end though, she realized that lost memory or not, what her life would become was all up to her. One of my favorite lines from the book: "If I'm downright mad and downright upset, it's down to me to handle what's left."
Starting over with a blank slate was good for her as it surely saved her relationship not only with her husband but with herself. But should it always entail something drastic for change to happen? Guess not.
Ok, Heather, we GET that each character in EVERY SINGLE BOOK you write is trying to re-invent herself. But girl, you gotta end these novels tight, because in the 3 books I read, I was completely absorbed--until the endings, where I went WTF???
You had SUCH a good chance with Blank Slate Kate. What an awesome premise and you pulled it off so well. Maybe you could have written an intense 10-page ending instead of the Deus Ex Machina you threw in there? Kate was confused throughout the novel, and I felt for her!! I really could relate! But there I was, at the end, going WTF?
You are a beautiful writer. You capture emotions, and you show instead of tell. The reader is caught up in your stories. I just want one of yours to make me say "holy s**t" instead of WTF...
I read the Polar Bear Tattoo, and A Life that Fits, and Blank Slate Kate. Please, when you have a moment, if I've forgotten one that has an ending that doesn't just taper off, and I will buy and read every one.
I would like to give this book 3 1/2 stars. Kate/Donna wakes up one morning in a strange bed with a strange man, thinking she is 15 years younger than what she really is. She finds it hard to come to terms with how different life is now and it's also a struggle to sort out who she is. Jake, the rescuer and Ryan, her husband try to help her remember. I did like this story, even though it was far fetched! Sadly you didn't really get to know any of the characters properly and the ending was unsatisfying, as if it had been finished in a hurry but that wouldn't put me off reading other books by this author. It was light, with a nice style of writing - perfect to take on holiday. I was given this ARC by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
A mixed bag - the premise was a good one, but the story turned out to be a bit confusing, especially Kate's feelings for the two men, Jake and Ryan. I had thought there would be some great reveal or climax to the story, but there wasn't, and it felt like a rushed ending. Some things which had been introduced (about her background) were not elaborated on, so it was rather an unsatisfying read. Thanks to the publisher for a digital review copy.
So, I’m just going to go ahead and dub this week “I don’t know who the hell I am!” week, seeing as how all but 1 book I’ll be talking about this week is riddled with amnesia, (yeah…weird)
Anyways, I am a super huge goober fan of Heather’s and have been for a while now, (especially since she named a character after me!) so when she emailed me over the holidays and practically begged, (ok…maybe it wasn’t quite that dramatic) to read her next novel “Blank Slate Kate” I couldn’t refuse.
Here is the thing, Heather is fantastic with emotional dynamics, she has on several occasions, (Planning to Live, Go Small or Go Home, Seven Exes are Eight too Many) made me cry like a teenage girl who realizes her Gucci is fake, and when I’m not making a total ass out of myself, I’m laughing at her rather refreshing takes on life, (“I follow a link to Twitter and am soon drowning in endless updates like “Boyfriend farted this morning. Ew.” and “At Starbucks to work. Go me!”. Everyone’s talking, constantly, but nobody’s saying anything that matters.”) So when I realized that “Blank Slate Kate” was about a woman who wakes up thinking she’s a hot 16 year-old blonde girl only to find out she’s a 30 year old tattooed brunette, I couldn’t wait to get started.
First…they synopsis:
Waking up with a strange man is scary. Realizing you lost fifteen years of your life overnight? That’s terrifying. With her memories from seventeen to thirty-two gone, Kate has no idea who she is and where she belongs. As she begins to fall for the man who found her, she wonders if she forgot those years for a reason. Should she keep trying to retrieve her original self, or start a new life?
Now, as much as I love Heather, (and her work…obviously) this was not her finest hour. While the book was entertaining, and even laugh out loud funny in parts…it lacked the draw I usually feel when reading her work. Was it poor character planning? Maybe…there is one character in particular (Jake) whose attitude was very mono-directional only to be chopped in half and scattered about like buck shot, (dear God… I did NOT just make a gun reference) about half way in, BUT… even this couldn’t REALLY be the problem, it wasn’t THAT bad. Maybe… it’s that Heather’s writing almost solely depends on her ability to capture her audience with emotion and that’s hard to do when your main character doesn’t know how to feel herself. Who knows… the fact remains, that regardless of the pleasantness of this read, (and yes…it was a fun, quick, pleasant read) I wasn’t attached, (emotionally) they way I should have been to Kate/Donna and her battle for self-recognition. (*tear*)
All that aside, the story, (premise) itself was undeniably fantastic. There was Heather’s ever present “love” aspect, but at the same time there was intrigue, (in the form of a mysterious iPhone app) gobs and gobs of heartache, (bound to happen when you are basically clueless) and enough wit to fill a garbage bag.
So, was I disappointed enough to steer you in the opposite direction? No…like I said, it was a pretty cute, interesting read. And though it wasn’t her BEST effort, (according to me) there’s no denying that it was still a good one. If you like romances, this is definitely one you will enjoy so go ahead and snatch it up.
Happy Reading my fellow Kindle-ites and remember: What’s in a name…a rose by any other, oh forget it, we all know that’s bullshit. Cheers!
Okay, so imagine this... you wake up (naked too, I might add) in a strange man's bed. You look in the mirror, and what do you see? Yourself... looking MANY years older than you did before. Well, this is what poor Kate is facing. Her last memory is when she was 17, and she comes to find out she is now 32 and has absolutely no recollection of the last 15 years of her life. Devastating, right?!
Blank Slate Kate kicks amnesia butt!! In my opinion, amnesia novels can be hard to relate to, appearing unrealistic and hard to believe... but this one was amazing!! Heather has a wonderful way of developing a story in a way that is completely realistic and hits close to home. The characters are totally relatable and seem to be people you would know in your everyday lives. The concept of losing a memory in your mind, but not always in your heart, is a strong one.
This was a page-turner for sure. In one chapter I would be rooting for Mr. Hot Stranger, then in the next it's all Mr. Loveable Past. What a crazy journey Kate was forced to go through to discover her past and plan her future. I honestly had no idea how this story would end until the very last page, and I loved that.
My favorite little part, I have to add, was Kate's new found love of iPhones. I have one as well... and I have to say, I LOVE my iPhone! Definitely one of the greatest creations of our present day. :)
I read this book in a day, which I'm rarely able to do. I couldn't put it down! Even with my infant in my arms while feeding him, I had my iPad propped up so I could continue with Kate's story. Now THAT'S telling you something. Page after page the story developed and grew, pulling me in more and more.
In short, I just LOVED Blank Slate Kate! I can't say enough good about it. I look forward to reading more from Heather in the future. (And a little birdy told me she's coming out with a couple new books in 2012, so keep your eyes open for them!! I have a strong feeling you won't be disappointed.)

Blank Slate Kate Review and Give...: Heather is givingaway three copies (ebooks). Posted by Jencey Gortney at 10:52 AM 0 comments Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare to Facebook Wednesday, June 20, 2012Can You Remember? Blank Slate Kate Review and Giveaway Heather graciously donated a copy of this book for Beach Read. Synopsis:
Kate suddenly wakes up in a stranger's bed with no memory of who she is. The only memories she has is of being seventeen years old. The apartment she wakes up in is Jake is a bartender. He decides to take her under his wing and help her figure out who she is. He also asks for help from his friend Hannah. What secrets will Kate uncover? Will she uncover her past? Kate explores Toronto with Jake in hopes of reclaiming her memory. One night she gets a call from the police station saying that they might have answers to who she is. Kate has to meet with her actual family. Kate struggles with the people in her life or how to reconcile her past. What will Kate end up deciding for her future?
My Thoughts: This is the second book I have read about Amnesia. I wondered would she retain all of her memories eventually? Would she totally change from her past? This subject of amnesia is well researched and well written. I had to say that I found myself rooting for what Kate would choose her past or her future. A person with amnesia has a difficult path to follow because they are often left trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together of their life. I can't personally imagine what that might be like.
What would you do if you lost everything? Would you keep the same life? Would you choose a whole new life? This is another great read by Heather Wardell and she has decided to share with three lucky readers an e-copy of the book. The giveaway is open to everyone and will run from June 20-30. The giveaway will close that evening of the 30th.
I simply love Heather Wardell's work and just sigh in contentment every time I finish one of her books. Her writing is so fresh, so emotional without being heavy, that I live in a state of excited anticipation waiting for her next release.
Blank Slate Kate was no different from my other favorite Wardell reads---I started reading and was immediately drawn in to the story, and found myself unable to put the book down. To read an entire book in one or two sittings as a working mother of a 9-month old is a true accomplishment, something that almost never happens for me anymore. Even books I love, series books I have been looking forward to for months (or longer), take me days to read now. But not Heather Wardell's books. There is just something about her writing that makes me unable to stop reading once I've started. I've just got to know what's going to happen next.
Kate wakes up one morning having no idea of where she is, or even what year it is. She feels 17 but quickly realizes her body is much older. She soon learns that she is actually 32, but has no memory of the last 15 years of her life. Kate is taken in by Jake, who seems to be such an all-around good person---at first. Enter in a husband who Kate doesn't know, a domineering mother-in-law, and a thriving business that she remembers nothing about, and Kate has her work cut out for her. I loved living the journey to self-discovery with Kate.
I really thought I knew how this book was going to end, but I was wrong. I was so wrong, and I love being surprised like that! Heather took the book in a direction I was not expecting at all. It was an unexpected ending and I enjoyed it more than the ending I had prepared myself for. I loved the character development and the love story. I love Heather's writing and pacing, which kept the book moving quickly. I would recommend Blank Slate Kate to just about anyone. Fans of chick lit will especially love it!
Amnesia is a scary thing. It is even scarier when you wake up in bed naked with a stranger! (It isn't so bad when that stranger is a hottie!)
First let me say, I have read several of Heather's books and I've been impressed by them all. This book was no different. Heather's books all have strong heroines. Kate could have been a weepy, emotional wreck. If you loose 15 years of your life, I think you are entitled to a few meltdowns, but Kate really handles things well, even if she is going through a host of feelings and emotions as she relearns who she is.
This book is really about being able to start over, and there are a lot of reasons Kate has for needing a fresh start. As the story unfolds, we learn a lot about the woman Kate was...her name...her marital status and quite a bit about her personality.
Kate/Donna or Kadonna as her brother Ethan called her, really don't seem like they could ever be the same person, but they are and Kate isn't totally different from Donna. I found myself laughing with her and crying with her many times in this book.
I especially liked the dynamics between Kate and the two men in her life, Jake and Ryan. Once there were two men in her life I expected to instantly favor one or the other, but I didn't. I actually felt bad for the one that got left behind. He may have made some mistakes in his past, but I wanted him to be happy with someone. I hope somewhere down the line that character gets a story of his own. (See how well I did that without giving away any spoilers?) I will let you in on one thing, the ending is not what I expected.
I've said this before and I'll say it again, if you haven't read a book by Heather Wardell, you really are missing out. Her characters are always so realistic in their behavior and you really want to welcome them into your life as new friends.
Kate wakes up one morning in a stranger bed, hungover and the last thing she remembers is being 17 and in high school. At least she might be Kate, that is what she told Jacob, who's bed she woke up in, her name was. She spends the net few weeks trying to piece together her life and the past 15 years together. Not only does she learn about how the world changed, 9-11, iPhone, twitter, it is all new to her now. But, what kind of life has she lived, who is her husband, and what are the secrets that she has been keeping from her friends (the ones that she might have still) and her family that she doesn't remember now. Slight spoiler, Kate never fully gets her memories back. But, we do see her piece her life together and learns from it what she doesn't want to do again, keep secrets, and how she can change her path now.
I could really appreciate and enjoyed this novel. Mental problems was one of the underlying issues and though I don't have them to the extend the main character does I could appreciate how she felt with them and was overwhelmed. She had to relearn about it after she lost her memories and realized that maybe she was trying to forget with her memory lose. But, she can't just keep running away which is what she seems to be keep doing. As she pieces her life back together.
I won this book in a contest and I am so glad that I did. I really enjoyed it and felt I need to read it with how it dealt with mental health. I have to give this book 4 stars and I would recommend this book to others who enjoy chick lit and want to see a way that mental health can be face and see what many in society have to deal with.
For some reason I have a weakness for amnesia-themed chick lit. I don't pretend to understand it, but there you go. So read this with a grain of salt, knowing I'm predisposed to like books like Blank Slate Kate from the outset.
This is the first book by Heather Wardell that I ever picked up, and it wasn't until I reached the end that I realized it was part of a series of linked books. I think it says something that I was motivated to go back and read all of the Toronto Series books based on this one.
The plot is pretty straightforward: woman wakes up in attractive strange man's apartment with no memory of the past fifteen years, they develop a mutual affection for each other, they find out she's actually married and was running away from her old life when she lost her memory.
On the surface it seems like just another predictable beach read. In fact, it manages to be surprising and interesting
I'd definitely recommend it for a quick and engaging read.
I have been a fan of Heather Wardell’s since her first book, and have happily read and reviewed each and every one on Chick Lit Plus. When she contacted me about doing a tour for Blank Slate Kate, I was thrilled. Mainly because I got to read another book. I was super curious about this one, where the main character wakes up in her thirties – but her last memories are from when she is seventeen. Kate – or is her real name Kate? – has lost all her memories from the past fifteen years. She has to try to figure out who she really is, and things really get complicated when her husband appears. Kate doesn’t have any recollection of this man, her wedding, her corporate life. How can she piece the puzzle together?
Again, another five star review for a Wardell book. Once I started this book, I just could not put it down. I loved figuring out Kate’s life with the little clues that would come to us throughout the chapters. It was such a mystery, and a very well thought-out and written one at that. Twists and turns surfaced at so many points, but instead of being overwhelming, it just kept making the book better and better. The aspect I think I loved the most was the ending. Wardell gives her books the best endings – they never end the way you think they will or is the “norm.” (Check out Planning to Live and you’ll see what I mean). I really enjoyed the ending to this book as well, and again – if you haven’t checked out Heather Wardell yet – do it! You’ll thank me!
This is the second Heather Wardell book I have read. It won't be the last. Ms. Wardell has the gift of creating an intriguing plot that sucks you into the story and moves along nicely.
The plot is both silly (amnesia, a 17 year old suddenly feeling comfortable as a 32 year old), serious (depression, family secrets), and at times a bit unbelievable (what WERE the police THINKING???). The author, fairly new on the scene, appears to be still developing her craft. This actual writing in this book is much better than the one I read previously, but is still a bit stilted in parts, though the plot is INTERESTING enough that those parts are easy to overlook.
That said, the plot draws the reader in, as the author does a WONDERFUL job of keeping the reader looking for secrets and clues that appear to be "just around the corner", only to reveal more secrets and clues until the ending wraps it up fairly nicely. I don't have a need to finish every book I start and often put a book down and never pick it up again if it doesn't interest me; not so with this book. I WANTED to know what happened next, wanted to turn the page and see what was happening to the main character, Kate.
I read this book on Kindle, where the author is self-published and the book is inexpensive.
It's more than a fluffy chick-lit read, but certainly no heavier than your average "beach read". I recommend reading it, for FUN, and watching to see what this author does in the months and years to come.
Forgetting is a part of our lives. Sometimes we're so busy that we forget to call someone back, or you wake up with a foggy memory of the events from the night before. Some lead to disastrous events, some don't. We don't mean to forget, or at times we do. Imagine waking up in a strange place, next to a strange person and realizing you're not in the life you once remembered. How about losing fifteen years of your life and can't seem to figure out how this could have happened?
This is the situation the heroine of Blank Slate Kate. This is her story, and how she tries to recall her life. I was intrigued by the premise of this book when it first came to my attention, and I wasn't disappointed. Her story is remarkable, suspenseful, and there's many scenes that made me laugh and even shed a few tears. Heather Wardell puts so much life into these characters it's hard not to feel for them one way or the other. This book was a stay up all night finish in one sitting kind of book. There's charm, witty and humorous moments, there's some revelation and secrets that I never saw coming- this book has it all! This is my first time reading a Heather Wardell book, but after how enjoyable I found Blake Slate Kate to be, it won't be my last. In fact, I already told a friend about this book and she bought it instantly. This is a highly recommended book. If you're a fan of chick lit romance books, then really, what are you waiting for?
The plot of Blank Slate Kate - a thirty-something woman wakes up naked in a strange bed and can’t remember the last fifteen years- could have been filled with predictability and cliches. Could have been. But wasn’t.
Of course there’s the husband that Kate doesn’t remember. But Heather Wardell gives “Kate” a number of options. She doesn’t send Kate immediately back into the arms of her husband, nor into the arms of a potential lover.
Instead, she lets Kate find herself naturally, revealing the stress that leads to Kate’s depression and memory loss in bits and pieces. And it is totally something I didn’t see coming, which you know I love.
Wardell’s trademark is to give us likeable heroines with whom we identify. They are women we either wouldn’t mind being, or would want to be friends with. With Kate, Heather strikes just the right balance of Kate wanting to discover the things that comprised her pre-amnesia life with the desire to be true to herself as Kate, whomever she might be.
I haven’t read a book from Heather Wardell yet that I didn’t like. Blank Slate Kate doesn’t disappoint. It kept me turning pages and reading, because I wanted to know what happened next.
If you’re a chick lit fan, and you haven’t checked out Heather Wardell yet, go do it. Now. I thoroughly enjoyed Blank Slate Kate and it is my selection for my February ChickLitPlus Challenge read.
Have you seen the movie 13 Going on 30, well this book starts quite close to the main theme - missing out on a few years and now trying to live in a whole 'nother world. The comedy of someone waking up and missing out on 15 years and going from a world with very little technology to our world of tweeting, iphones and internet was very fun to read. This is where the story begins, but it ends in a different spot - and I am all the more glad for it!
With twists and turns, this book ended up being much more than I thought it would be and I enjoyed the deeper story that was beyond her losing her memories. Kate, the main character, has two men who are trying to help her find her memories and make new ones. She is trying to unlock the past to find out why she has such a strained relationship with one of the men. This review may sound general, but there are some great aspects of this book that I just don't want to spoil, so I don't want to be too wordy in my review.
A perfect chick lit read for the new year to remind us to keep our memories close because they can be easily lost. I would definitely recommend this book to all my readers who love a great chick lit with a little love triangle action.
Kate wakes to find herself 15 years older and with no memory. What happens throughout the next few hundred pages is she does her best to find herself with the help of a random male stranger (whose character is unbelievable - he takes her to his place, buys her all her clothing, feeds her, houses her - as he sleeps on the couch for 6 weeks - and he expects nothing in return and states that she can continue to live there indefinitely, regardless if she gets her memory back or not) and a husband that finds her no less than six weeks later. Really? It took him 6 weeks to find his wife?
He informs her that she suffers from sever depression and that she's undergoing electric shock therapy. To add to the insanity of this book, the reason in which she lost her memory is mundane and that in itself is unbelievable.
The ending is greatly disappointing and there's such a strong sense of anticlimax that even I'm desperately searching for my some for of antidepressants. At times the reader is lost as to who is speaking in the book and there's a muddled sense of time; it's hard to decipher how much as passed.
The only good thing about this book is that at least it only cost me 99 cents and a bit of my time.
The premise of this story is fascinating – a woman wakes up to find out she doesn’t remember who she is. I loved investigating along side Kate as she discovers who she…or at least who she isn’t. I couldn't trust anyone at first, including Jake. The circumstances were too vague for me to be 100% cool with him. As the story progressed I was won over a bit on his side though. For me the really interesting part started the moment we knew Kate’s actual name, Donna. And then came a husband, a witchy mother-in-law, and more secrets.
The struggle Kate-Donna went through trying to feel comfortable in her own skin – fighting against the name and trying to fit into her life – gave the story a Alice in Wonderland feel. Things were all out of sorts - the reader spends the book trying to piece together her past using the characters she runs across in her journey...just like Alice does looking for the White Rabbit.
The ending was good, but I was really rooting for the guy she didn't end up. His character took an unexpected turn towards the last third of the story which I was a little bummed with but that didn't impact my view of the book overall.
I am a huge fan of books that involve memory loss or amnesia, so when I saw this book for Kindle for only $0.99 I bought it and began reading it immediately. While this memory loss chick-lit book was engaging and interesting at times, it was really just okay for me. I found too much of the book completely ridiculous and absurd to truly get into it and enjoy it . I also found the big reveal to be rather dull and anti-climatic and was hoping there would be something more interesting . While I don't regret reading it, I don't know that I would recommend it to people either, as it really is just "okay" in my opinion; it passed the time, but it was utterly forgettable.
This was the first book I read by Heather, but it definitely won't be the last. It was fun and exciting and very light hearted. It was also a clean romance with a very casual Canadian setting.
I love how casually it was set in Canada. Canadian settings still seem to be fairly rare, and quite often they are pointed out with big flaming arrows. But this book was very smooth about it and let the setting stay in the background with the story front and centre.
I thought Kate was an interesting character. She doesn't remember anything after age 17, but she doesn't seem like a teenager. She seems exactly like what she is: an adult woman with missing memories. Her whole persona, and the book in general, had a grown-up feeling that was still very refreshing.
The love story was almost like a love triangle, but more like a 1-2-1 progression. It was more realistic, and sweet to read.
Overall, I really liked this story. It was chick lit at its finest. This book makes for a quick and easy read that it just perfect for putting a smile on your face.
Heather Wardell may be the master of book dealing with serious issues. I was hooked by first couple pages. It is so intense. I cannot imagine going through this. The scenes with Kate learning about technology and the internet very early on were quite humorous. But there were some very sad scenes as she caught herself up on the world tragedies that had happened during the time she had forgotten. Those were very hard scenes for me to get through.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I wish that I could gush about all my favorite parts of this novel. I can say that I hate Claire. HATE her.
I normally dislike love triangles, but I’m not sure this one counts. I wasn’t even sure who I wanted to root for. I could kind of see reasons to choose either of the men. Some of the scenes with both men were so heartbreaking.
I loved the journey that Kate took. There were twists and turns and some moments that you just couldn’t believe because they were so unexpected. This book equals amazing. I could not put it down.
WOW! I have read every one of Heather Wardells books by now and this one just toped them all. To me, Heather manages with each book to top the one before.Ater reading the first 20% , I thought I had it figured out how it would end but I was so wrong. There is such a nice twist in the story. I love the characters in all of her books because Heather has a way to bring them alive and when I put down a book to take care of other things, the characters stay with my and I wonder about them.
My experience with Heather Wardell as a person have been out of this world as well. She is a wonderful Author and is always open for critic and praise. You can email her or facebook her. After reading my first book, I send Heather an email to tell her what I thought about the book and never in the world would have thought I would get a response. But I was so wrong. She is such a nice, good hearted person and a wonderful Author who you can connect to.
I can not wait for the next book to come out. THANK YOU!
This is the fourth book that I've read of Heather's and I'm always so intrigued to see what she comes up with next. None of her books are alike, but all fantastic! For all you series skeptics, even though this is part of the Toronto Series, you can easily pick up any one of the books and not be lost because, the characters aren't linked. In Blank Slate Kate, there are many twist and turns that make it exciting. You almost feel like you're playing a game of Clue! It makes you wonder what you would do if something like this happened to you. Would you keep your old life or would you look at it as an opportunity to start anew? There certainly were reasons and circumstances that ultimately helped Kate make that decision. If you are looking for a fresh, exciting, and thoroughly enjoyable read, get this book! This is definitely going into my favorites and will be a re-read.
Seventeen year old Kate Anderson wakes up one morning and finds herself naked and in bed with a stranger. But wait... something is seriously wrong here... who is that adult staring back at her in the mirror? Somehow Kate woke up missing the last fifteen years of her life and she's now a thirty-two year old woman with no idea what made her lose her memory. With the help of Jake, the guy whose bed she woke up in, Kate tries to find out who she really all the while wondering if she lost those years for a reason.
Ack!! There are so many things I want to say and describe about this book but I can't without giving away any spoilers. All I can really say is that I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and stayed up late more than once anxious to find out what and why Kate forgot about her past. This is my first Wardell book and I will definitely be reading more by this author. This is a must read for all romance lovers.
This was a pretty good read, considering it was only .99! The cover was plain and simple, so I was scared the writing was a reflection of that. It had a very good plot to it though, very "The Vow" - iquse. I really enjoyed "Kate" as the main character because she was so driven and opposite of who she actually was. The only thing that bothered me were the male roles in her life. Being in their late 20's, early 30's, I'd expect Jake and Ryan to be a bit more masculine? We were first introduced to Jake, who at first seems genuinely sweet, but towards the end, he just seemed like a jealous teenager. Ryan, on the other hand, was supposed to be the "business" man, but he seemed to insecure throughout the whole book. I just felt like the author could have made readers lust one over the other ya know? Like have a "Team Ryan" or "Team Jake", but throughout the whole book, I was just rooting for Team Kate. :) Either way, it's a worth a read! Especially since it was so cheap!
This was an intriguing self discovery story I couldn't put down. I really felt for Kate and was routing for her the whole time. What we think was Kate's former life is filled with twists and turns until the very end. To give away any of the plot would be to ruin the book in my opinion and I hate spoilers. You need to go into this one a blank slate ;)
The only reminder I had to continue to give myself through part of the book is that Kate has the mentality of a 17 year old (due to her amnesia), which for me made it feel a bit like a YA, New Adult. As the story progresses so does the writing and POV of Kate and is more women's fiction as it's meant to be. I thought Wardell did an incredible job of making that transition and showing the vulnerability of Kate.
