American transplant to the Lake District, MARIE WARREN, didn’t know she could unleash demons and enflesh ghosts until a voyeuristic encounter on the fells ends in sex with the charming ghost, ANDERSON, and night visits from a demon. To help her cope with her embarrassing and dangerous new abilities, Anderson brings her to the ELEMENTALS, a coven of witches who practice rare sex magic that temporarily allows needy ghosts access to the pleasures of the flesh.
DEACON, the demon Marie has unleashed, holds an ancient grudge against TARA STONE, coven high priestess, and will stop at nothing to destroy all she holds dear. Marie and her landlord, the reluctant young farmer, TIM MERIWETHER, are at the top of his list. Marie and Tim must learn to wield coven magic and the numinous power of their lust to stop Deacon’s bloody rampage before the coven is torn apart and more innocent people die.
For K D Grace, penning a good tale is a physical act. When she’s not writing, K D is veg gardening or walking. Her creativity is directly proportional to how much soil is under her fingernails or how quickly she wears out a pair of walking boots. She’s having a mad affair with a pair of kettle bells at her local gym and an even madder affair with a stainless steel pole in the pole fitness studio just across the street. She’s fascinated with mythology and fairy tales, which inspires many of her stories. She loves to read. She loves anything that gets her out of doors. But she loves writing a story best of all.
Voted ETO Best Erotic Author of 2014, K D is the author of sixteen novels and multiple novellas and short stories for multiple publishers. She also writes romance under the name Grace Marshall. At present she is excitedly publishing her Medusa’s Consortium urban fantasy series. The first three novels, beginning with In The Flesh, are now available.
Why did I take so long to read this book??? This is a 5 star read for its genre. Having tried to read paranormal erotica in the past, I've constantly been disappointed with plot - or lack of. THIS story has one hell of a plot, worthy of any you find in a good paranormal romance, but it's focus is on the sex, and how the characters get from plot point A, to plot point B, via SEX. Which of course, is what makes this erotica. Having said that, there is a huge amount of character building. You learn a lot about them all, and really feel for them in a couple of instances. My favourite character was Tim - I just love me a true-to-life, vulnerable hero, and watching him come out of his shell and build his confidence throughout the whole book was great fun - I was there with him all the way.
Marie, I related to a little less, but she was very likeable as a heroine. I call them hero and heroine for the sake of understanding, although please note that this is not a romance. There is relationship build-up, but not solely between these two, but between ALL the characters. The way that they all interact with each other is well written and way more than you get in most erotica stories.
Other characters: Anderson, the "make-me-drip with his poetic, old-world-speak" ghost; Deacon, the "make-me-drip with his evil, sexually demanding ways" ghost; Tara, the make-me-drip witch with her ... okay, you get the idea: there's a lot of drip-worthy elements to this book.
The writing: it's very good. What else is there to say? K D Grace knows how to write, and her style also makes it an easy read.
You know what one of the great things is about this book? It's EXCELLENT for anyone who's not sure about the difference between an erotic romance, and erotica. Since Fifty Shades of Grey made it big (and I love that trilogy, by the way), many people have been confused about what erotica is, and what romance is (and to another extent, what porn is, but I'm not even going there...). THAT book/trilogy is a romance (an erotic romance), despite the ending of the first book; THIS book/trilogy is erotica. If you're not sure on the difference, read Ms Grace's book and familiarise ;) I think this book would suit a more sensitive reader who LIKES sex in romance, but wants to push their boundaries, try a bit of erotica, try something more graphic, obviously without the romance aspect. None of the sexual acts in here were overly crude - very graphic, highly sensual, but not crude (of course, this is just my opinion - don't shoot me if you read it and think, "aaaarrrgh!"). If you're new to the wild sea that is erotica, and don't know where to start, start here. You won't quite be thrown in at the deep end, but it'll be deep enough so your feet won't reach the bottom.
So, if you're looking for a helluva lot of graphic sex, with ghosts and witches that can practically make you come just by breathing on you, multiple orgasms, group sex (and there's a tiny bit of m/m and m/m/f action in there too), sex magic, interesting relationship dynamics without the romance development, a steady, strong plot that continues for three books (the other two yet to be released), all of them novel length, this book is for you. I highly recommend it.
NOTE: I received this book from Writer Marketing Services, via the author / publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
As a paranormal fan, as well as a fan of K D Grace's work, I've long been looking forward to this book. Now, having read it, I'm chomping at the bit to read the next two in the trilogy.
Body Temperature and Rising is the first story in the Lakeland Heatwave trilogy, which is set in England's beautiful Lake District. It tells the tale of Marie Warren, an American living in England who, after a voyeuristic sexual encounter on the fells, discovers that she has some kind of magical powers. Taken aback, confused and terrified, Marie finds herself becoming acquainted with a coven of witches who know exactly what's going on with Marie, and how they can help her.
It quickly becomes apparent that the powers Marie never knew she had have unleashed a demon. A demon that the coven, The Elementals, had worked hard to bury. Deacon is a vile and dangerous creature and must not be allowed to continue roaming the fells. He knows what he wants and will stop at nothing to get it, even murder.
Marie, although scared of her powers, knows she'll be safer if she learns about them and how they work so she can protect herself. And so her journey into the world of sex magic begins. Marie, her landlord Tim Meriwether and the members of the coven must all work together to summon enough power to beat evil Deacon. But can they do it, or will the demon continue to terrorise the fells?
Body Temperature and Rising is my favourite of K D Grace's books so far. I don't want to give anything away, but it has some very interesting and unique paranormal elements that I really enjoyed reading about. It was also incredibly erotic. The way the plot goes means that the sex is fully integrated into the book and is completely necessary. And trust me, there's a lot of sex. Hot sex. So if you're looking for a well-written, pacy and smokin' hot paranormal romp, I'd point you towards this book. One warning, though. As soon as you've read it, you'll want to read the next book immediately. I know I do!
"Our lives are only reflections experienced through the mirrors of our personalities and our psyches."
The one word I could use to describe this book is boring. For some reason it just bored me. Usually I am hard pressed to put a book down but continuing to read this felt like a chore.
I did want to know what happened but there just was not anything in there that left me feeling like I wanted to keep reading. We didn't get to see enough of the characters for me to be fully invested in their futures. Even the sex scenes were not descriptive, or hot enough for me and the use of brit slang such as 'mons' and 'pout' was a massive turn off.
Secondly there wasn't really an element of romance in here or real connection. I just really couldn't keep up with who wanted who because K D Grace made it out like everybody liked everybody the same. I'm that invested in erotica that I realise there can be sharing without caring, or even multiple partners, or even erotica without romance but I felt that this book just confused me. It tried to be romantic at times, there were mentions of romantic connections between Anderson and Marie, Marie and Tim, Tim and Fiori but none of them were fully explored in the way they should have.
I didn't like it. It was just plain weird. Would have made a good porn film, a lot of sex and not much story. I was glad to get to the end of it, and then I just felt "What was all that about???!"
The storyline completely took me by surprise, I thought how can you make a sexy erotic book work about ghosts, would it be similar to the Entity back in the early 80's, I was a little worried it may be too corny...oh my....how wrong could I be.....! I had only read a few short stories from KD Grace before; so I was so looking forward to reading a full novel from her; especially her latest book.
Body Temperature and Rising is the first in a trilogy from this NEW Heatwave series. I adore supernatural and murder mysteries and KD has covered my favourite genres into 1 book...just brilliant. I really don't want to give too much away but I cant sing the praises of this book without giving a little away, just a little teaser. The whole story is set in the stunning British countryside of the lake district, one of the most beautiful places on earth for me, so immediately from KD's perfect descriptions the book felt familiar having been there myself. From chapter 1 a highly erotic encounter with a sexy ghost changes Marie Warren's life forever after discovering she has supernatural powers. Confused and scared Marie meets a Coven of witches who become her guides where she and Tim Meriwether her landlord find they both have alot in common. The story follows both of them learning to handle their new powers and having to defeat a demon called Deacon who Marie accidentally unleashed into this living world. The Coven knows Deacon well and are fully aware of how evil and dangerous he is as he roams the fells. Deacon reeks death and fear as he is expertly brought to life in our imaginations by KD; by her easy to read, beautifully written storyline. So Tim, Marie and their new supernatural powers have to face their fears as they try to stop Deacon as he tries to stop them.
There are alot of hot scenes that are all completely relevant and KD Grace makes every encounter sexy and exciting and its never "just another sex scene". You can actually feel the sexual tension...or maybe that is real...well how can it not.. steamy sex in caves on the fells...hell yes its every girls dream and fantasy....isnt it..?
This is honestly one of the best books Ive read and I dont say that lightly. I'm so excited and I cant wait for the next 2 books, its going to drive me crazy till then, but this book gives you a teaser of a small chapter of the next book coming out in October.. I cant wait.
This beautifully written novel and a great mix of good plot and steaminess makes this a great start to the trilogy; I never realised you could write such a great novel mixing both supernatural and erotica without it being corny; I loved every page!
Warning; make sure you have hours to spare as you cant put this book down.
RATED: 4.5 Marie Warren has left her life in the states to start anew at Lacewing cottage in England. Her plan to find new direction in her life is forgotten as she finds herself thrown into a world of ghosts and demons. In her innocence, she has unleashed Deacon, a demon from the past, who is determined to destroy the leader of the local witch’s coven and all in her circle in payback for her taking his life a century earlier. For the coven to survive, Marie and her landlord, Tim Meriwether, must embrace their magical nature which is powered by lust and sex. Without their acceptance of their gift and this sexual magic, they, the coven — the Elementals — and their spirit friends are doomed for destruction. Deacon’s hatred has transcended time itself and he’ll stop at nothing until he’s had his revenge.
Ms. Grace’s story had me struggling to keep up, but in a good way. I don’t think I’ve ever read a story with sex magic at its heart. I find the concept refreshing and Ms. Grace definitely takes advantage of the sexual potential between the characters. In some stories, a lot of sexual romping can slow a story down. I didn’t find that in this tale. The sexual activity works well within the premise of the story and didn’t detract from the story for me.
The complement to all this sexual intensity is an intricately drawn narrative with a diverse group of characters – alive and dead. Although the storyline revolves around Marie I was drawn to the characters Anderson and Deacon who are deliciously written. I love Anderson for his sex appeal and honor; but I also enjoyed the evilness of Deacon. When these two characters are on the page, the story really came alive for me and moves along at a fast clip. The plot definitely engaged me. It’s a series of one intriguing revelation after another, and one steamy interlude leading into another. An in a quick aside, I can definitely see a sizzling triangle developing between Tim, Anderson and Marie. I’m keeping my figures crossed for that.
Ms. Grace has developed a magic ‘mythology’ I want to learn more about it. I also want to learn more about the characters. They enter the story so quickly; there really isn’t a lot of background information for most of them. I hope this is addressed in the following books in the series. Ms. Grace gives the reader a complex story of ghosts, witches and sex magic that I enjoyed and I think you will too.
The title of this book is pretty darn indicative of what you're going to get when you read it. For the love of all things steamy, this is one HOT read. Now, before you read any further, I should let it be known that I have a bit of a kink when it comes to paranormal, ghostly sex. As in, I enjoy figuring out how a non-corporeal being is going to manage to have dirty, sweaty sex with a living person. What? It's all about the journey, right? And this journey was both hot and fun.
K.D. Grace has laid some nice groundwork for future books with her interesting coven of sex magic witches. Without giving too much away I'm very curious to see how Tim deals with certain issues and if the connection Marie has with her ghostly lover deepens and becomes more permanent. As for the bad guy, Deacon is the kind of guy you love to hate. He's just vile. Vile and horrible and probably a big downer at parties. I mean, unless it's a demon sex party. In that case, he's probably the guy they all love to invite.
Steamy, sexy and some other words that start with S and mean hot things, Body Temperature and Rising is definitely a wild ride. If you don't like the sexy, stay out of the sex coven.
This was my first Elemental Erotica and let me tell you "Wooooo!" It was an interesting take on the duties the elements of Fire, Air, Water, and Earth have serving as Riders for Ghost. These riders are sexual witches that provide relief for ghost and have the power just by touch to turn them to flesh so they can seek their relief sexually.
The book started out slow the first few chapters of the book but then it kicked in and after being invested of learning the characters and their desires I became immersed into the story and just had to know how it ended.
I can say this, this was one hot and explicit read that exploded off the page. You will definitely want to go relieve yourself after this hot number. These witches get off on voyeurism and definitely don't mind sharing each other as you will see in a few scenes. The menage scene is awesome but my favorite scene wasn't the threesome this time, no the author won me over with the scene of Anderson taking Marie from behind for the first time and using a phallus for the front entrance to enhance her pleasure - let me tell you - absolutely explosive!
I recommend this book for those who love a lot of straight up explicit erotica in their books and for those who have an open mind to sexuality.
So, I read these NOT in order, and particularly adored the 3rd book in the trilogy. Getting the opportunity to read and review all three is a bonus! This book manages to combine witches, ghosts, demons, humans and a healthy chunk of danger threatening, and does it with style.
Of course, having very randy characters that are both open minded and sexually free with their bodies and emotions is a draw – although I did appreciate the frequent and bawdy sex, there were a few characters that I would have preferred to learn more about, and the complexity of the story in the beginning, especially with the Elementals and their powers to turn ghosts to flesh was incredibly unique and interesting and deserved to be flushed out more fully.
But, as a start to a series, I can hope that the characters will grow as the action and threats seem to ramp up – and for a start to a paranormal series with a twist, this was worth the time to read. And, if you are in the market for some interestingly combined sexual pairings, there are several different options to explore here.
I received an eBook from the author for purpose of honest review for the Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
The Lakeland Heatwave Trilogy gets off to an intriguing start in this sexy yet action-packed story that starts out slow but quickly gains speed. For American Marie, a sexy dream introduces her to a whole new world of witches, magic, and sex. As she learns the true extent of her abilities she realizes the deadly demon she's unleashed, Deacon, seeks to destroy all and only the Elementals coven can stop him. Joining her in her journey is Tim and together their connection will get them through the danger ahead. There's a lot of set-up in this story with lots of characters and explanations about this magical world that weigh the story down at first but it quickly becomes apparent how important each and every person and action is. Ms. Grace has created a unique world where sex is as important as breathing and beautifully balanced the steaminess with substance and leaves you wanting more....
What can I say besides that I love this book. Truly love it. I have tried a couple of books that involve sex and ghosts and they always fell short. I got this as a free read and I am soo glad I gave it a chance. Usually not a fan of romance ghost books this book worked the ghost into the story perfectly. The whole idea if sex magic and why it was needed is really brilliant. This story is so well written I don't know what to say. This story had ALOT of sex but it also had romance and love. It had a detailed story that flowed and left me wanting for nothing. You had some suspense. And you had a villain of all villains. He was sooo bad. Took me a while to figure out who was ghosts and who wasn't. And some came as a shock.
I will definitely be getting book 2 RIDING THE ETHER. And hoping that see hurry and releases the 3rd book in the trilogy. Excellent book.
Holy hotness! I am not generally a paranormal romance reader, but something about this book caught my interest and wow am I glad I read it. The book is about Marie and her ability to have sex (and I mean HOT sex) with ghosts, which is very weird, but somehow does K.D. Grace really make this seem natural. It is so hot, I thought my Kindle was going to melt. And I loved the suspense. This book had me gripped from the get-go and I could not put it down. I would encourage anyone who is a traditional erotica reader to give this one a try. And those of you who love paranormal will completely adore it.
“I received this book as a review copy in return for an honest review” This is a must read for you paranormal readers! Very sexy read from K.D. Grace. If you like to read about witches and ghosts than this one would be great for you. What a great way to start off a book with a little voyeurism on a rocky path in the fog. The fog made it more mysterious since the others couldn’t see her. Well that’s what she thought at first. Who would have known watching this tryst would change her life forever. This is the first book in the Lakeland Heatwave series and I can’t wait for more!
It takes a few chapters to actually work out who's real and who isn't, but all in all a good story - could have been a bit better on the detail for the plot, which would have made it easier to "get" what was going on in the first place, because that part was still quite sketchy and gave the feeling that you should have read another book first to find out who was who, what had happened to them, and why they were there. Not a bad read though, good fun
If you're looking for a paranormal story filled with fantastic writing and sizzling sex, this is the book for you. Right from the get go you're transported into a steamy world chock full of witches, ghosts and sex magic. What more could you want? The story is extremely intriguing and it was definitely a case of one more chapter, another one, end of the book!
I really wanted to like this and parts I did but it just was too much or not enough. I don't know. It just felt awkward and made me Burt's out laughing at the absurdity. Such a disappointment after the pet shop trilogy, especially as the supernatural setting offered such potential.
This was the first paranormal book I have tried after it was recommended to me. It is a must read for any fans paranormal erotic fans. It has some amazing paranormal elements and is incredibly erotic. I really enjoyed the imagery the author used to draw you into the story.
