The last thing the Ravynne sisters expected was 'romance' in any of its myriad forms, when they headed to Scotland to rescue their brother Allyn from the clutches of his latest love interest, Orianna, reputed to be a Baobhan Sith…or Scottish vampire. After arriving in Glasgow, they headed up into the Highlands, and found the village where Allyn was staying. Peaceful…almost idyllic at first glance, the sisters were more than a little surprised, when they slamed into a wall of unexplained hostility. The only friendly soul they found there was the minister, Angus McFarland, who told them their brother had moved to the 18th century manor house restored by the mysterious Seth Marley, who had become the new Laird of Blackcreag, when he purchased the title along with the manor, the village, and ancient castle perched above the sea on its dark crag. Little more than a ruin, Blood Castle was haunted by the dark and tormented 15th century Highland laird, Grey MacMorley, who found himself obsessed with Meg from the moment he first saw her.
I began my actual writing career as a journalist and then a TV scriptwriter, but loved putting words together to form images/thoughts/feelings almost as soon as I could grasp a pencil. There are six things important to me...well, most important to me: To love unconditionally, to always keep a sense of 'wonder', to always be kind, to find joy in simple things, to never take myself too seriously, and to make sure I don't leave this earth with a list of "if only I hads" trailing behind me. I've taken many 'leaps of faith' in my time and, so far, have landed on my feet or, in one case, on a dilapitated houseboat with my dog, and a lot of enthusiasm. I named her 'Sanctuary Annie' and hoped for the best. I knew nothing about boats, couldn't swim and wondered how long she would stay afloat. In the middle of the night, when my dog jumped up to join me on the antique Victorian bed I had moved on board, I would check to see if he was wet, knowing, if so, we were both in big trouble. But Sanctuary Annie hung in there, even surviving a hurricane, when others around her were not so fortunate. Living in the small marina, with the sea as my back yard, I found a profound sense of peace..and the love of my life....my Jim, captain of 'Wings', a beautiful racing sloop that flies across the water, when the wind fills her sails. I often think how much I would have missed out on, if I hadn't taken that leap of faith and followed my heart. Life is meant to be lived and I intend to keep on doing just that.
Charlie and Meg races to Scotland to save their brother Allyn from the clutches of a she devil. You have to stick with the story, with the Scottish way of speaking. It is difficult for the first few chapters but then returns to American English. The story is set in an isolate area, where the Castle looms on the moor and the manor house is the setting for ghosts, vampires, drug smuggling and human slaves. Of course, Zack shows up, only to get drugged and has to be rescued by a ghost. Its a fun story, where you can't help but laugh out loud at times.
This series is fun and pretty quick to read. I'm enjoying the sister interaction and the side characters. I am curious to learn more about what the oldest sister is hiding backstory-wise, though I think I already know. I'd recommend this to any lover of cozy mysteries with a bit of scare (though not very much) and a bit of romance.
Thoroughly enjoyed this new addition to the series. This family gets in trouble like my kids only on a whole new level. Love the interaction between the sisters and the brother gets into enough trouble to need two sisters to drag him out. Thanks for another great weekend of reading, Merabeth!
I enjoyed this book even more than the last one. I have a feeling that they will just get better as the series goes on. Can't wait to start the next one. I have defiantly found a new favorite author.
Excellent just like the first! The Rayvnne Sisters do it again! Although thanks to their brother they get in bit of a fix! Great read! Couldn't put it down!
