From Marvel Comics! Marvel introduces a stunning three-part gatefold variant cover for this summer's most anticipated event; The House of M #1. Featuring the artwork of series artist and Marvel "Young Gun" Olivier Coipel, this cover captures all of the characters involved in the world shattering event in amazing detail.
A comic book writer and erstwhile artist. He has won critical acclaim (including five Eisner Awards) and is one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics. For over eight years Bendis’s books have consistently sat in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic and graphic novel sales charts.
Though he started as a writer and artist of independent noir fiction series, he shot to stardom as a writer of Marvel Comics' superhero books, particularly Ultimate Spider-Man.
Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce.
Bendis’s other projects include the Harvey, Eisner, and Eagle Award-nominated Powers (with Michael Avon Oeming) originally from Image Comics, now published by Marvel's new creator-owned imprint Icon Comics, and the Hollywood tell-all Fortune and Glory from Oni Press, both of which received an "A" from Entertainment Weekly.
Bendis is one of the premiere architects of Marvel's "Ultimate" line: comics specifically created for the new generation of comic readers. He has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man since its best-selling launch, and has also written for Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men, as well as every issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate Origin and Ultimate Six.
Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion.
He has also previously done work on Daredevil, Alias, and The Pulse.
Second read review: one month and three weeks later I read this again. But this time in script form, I had a choice to make really, read the script by Benedis and learn how he writes his comics, because I read how Grant Morrison does it, and I might have read how others do it but I don't remember. Regardless, I did and I don't regret it as usual it takes triple the time it would have taken to just read the comic. It's very interesting, his style is more professional than Grant Morrison. Grant Morrison's style is like he is entertaining the artist who is reading the script and the readers who might be lucky enough to read his script. While I did enjoy what Grant did more. I can't help but admit that the way Benedis does it, is more achievable. You read it and you think Hey! I can do that too! There was actually one detail that the script made obvious that I didn't notice in the actual comic, like Benedis said the reader will notice it only with a second read. I have very few pages left in the omnibus, just some pencils and 4 pages of text, bit sure if it's an article or an interview about the event with Benedis.
First Read Review: Not all five stars are created equal. I won't ask what did we do to deserve this story, because I know what I did, I read 4 different series of X-Men up to this point just to not miss out on anything in this story, I wanted to be zoned in, the most prepared X-men reader when reading it. And I know I wasn't, out there, somewhere, there is a monster reader who also read Wolverine, and Deadpool and Cable series lol Maybe even Avengers up to this point. They gave a brief accounting of who Scarlet Witch had killed in Avengers Disassembled, I am satisfied with that. The art is probably the best in Marvel right now, only thing that was as good was Astonishing X-men. The writing is also among the best in Marvel at that point. The only thing that can mess this event up is actually the tie in issues, there is dozens of them, and I am not sure the pacing will be good at all in this Omnibus, but hopefully it is even 50% good I would be satisfied with that.
I read that somehow the new Disney+ series WandaVision is related to this comic. I'm a big fan of Avengers, though I'm not a comic reader or I followed the story of Avengers through comics, but I still followed the story and the dilemma facing Avengers and X-men because of Wanda. It's really bad when Scarlet Witch having her mental breakdowns. 😅
Did I read this for Wanda & Wanda only because WandaVision has just finished & I need to fill the void? Yup, I sure did. I was immediately hooked when I saw Charles & Magneto together. Seeing the X-men be part of the same universe as the avengers is so damn intriguing.
House of M #1 does something that a film or 30 minute TV show or even a novel can’t do. There are moments of nearly wordless grief that go on and on, cell after cell, leaving the reader in pain too. Be it Wanda’s grief, or that of her family and friends—there is a sitting with pain that the graphic novel allows that no other medium has room to deliver.
Storyline: tight and attention grabbing. Interesting start to the miniseries. Plenty of suspense and foreboding. Naturally I'm a sucker for an X-Men story where Xavier and Magneto are working together—this time to contain the loose cannon that is Wanda Maximoff.
Artwork: definitely not my cup of tea. I like the mood setting of the panels and pages that drastically changed between Wanda's alternate mind-realities, Genosha, and NYC. This was very effectively done. However I found the coloring job (mostly the toning and 3D shadowing of the figures and clothes / costumes) very distracting as it made it hard for me to see the lines drawn by the original artist.
Note: the copy that I read was the Director's Cut featuring the comic book storyboard and an interview with Brian Bendis.
Read this for the first time many, many moons ago, and since it's been so long, I thought I'd give myself a refresher. Honestly, I never finished the entire series the first time, and I wasn't all that crazy about House of M (probably because I never finished it). But, I wanted to give it another shot and see if my opinion changed. I guess we'll see....once I've finished the series.
An absolute fucking banger of a strong comic storyline. The sheer amount of intense emotion portrayed in only 1 issue?? Chef kiss a credit to the artist and writers
There's something about the vibes when the X-Men and the Avengers are all collected in a room, about to make world-altering decisions, that gives me a thrill. I shouldn't be as excited knowing a ripple is separating the mutant forces and that it's pretty much what started Civil War in the first place, but what can I say, I'm only human. Great issue to start off this series. Also, absolutely loved seeing some emotion on Eric's face other than rage, what a rarity.
Enam bulan lalu, Scarlet Witch kehilangan kendali atas kekuatannya.
The Avengers and X-Men have a unique problem: should they kill Wanda Maximoff? it’s an interesting dilemma that they do not agree on. Spider-Man makes a good point: if my powers go awry you all will kill me? just like that? and Wolverine said yes and he hopes you’d do the same for him. It’s a moral dilemma that they do not agree on at all.

The opening issue hits the ground with emotional weight. Scarlet Witch’s breakdown post-Avengers: Disassembled sets the tone — fractured, tragic, and dangerous. Xavier, Magneto, Doctor Strange, and others gather to decide what to do about Wanda’s instability, and the moral dilemma is heavy. Do they kill her for the greater good, or hope for a miracle? You can feel the tension in every panel. The artwork by Olivier Coipel is gorgeous — warm but unsettling. This issue builds the foundation for something massive, and it ends with a twist that hits like a dream — or maybe a nightmare.
