In these timeless romances from bestselling authors Jayne Ann Krentz, Lindsay McKenna and B.J. Daniels, three women will discover that the West has never been so wild…
The Cowboy
After their disastrous parting, Margaret Lark thought she was through with Rafe Cassidy. So when he shows up on her doorstep a year later with a shocking proposal, Margaret has no choice but to put her heart on the line again—even if it means winning back the cowboy who stole it in the first place.
The Cougar
Jim Cunningham's Arizona ranching family has been feuding with Rachel Donovan's for over a century—but forbidden fruit always tastes the sweetest to this handsome cowboy. Jim wants desperately to mend the rift between the families—and to find out if Rachel is the woman he has always wanted.
Murder at Last Chance Ranch
Teddi MacLane's no-account, soon-to-be-ex-husband hasjust turned up dead—in Teddi's house, just days after she threatened to kill him. Now Teddi needs the help of her high school sweetheart, Sheriff Jake Rawlins, to clear her name…and to mend her heart.
The author of over 50 consecutive New York Times bestsellers, JAYNE ANN KRENTZ writes romantic-suspense in three different worlds: Contemporary (as Jayne Ann Krentz), historical (as Amanda Quick) and futuristic (as Jayne Castle). There are over 30 million copies of her books in print.
She earned a B.A. in History from the University of California at Santa Cruz and went on to obtain a Masters degree in Library Science from San Jose State University in California. Before she began writing full time she worked as a librarian in both academic and corporate libraries.
I can't really save any of these 3 novels even if of course Krentz is the best writer.
The cougar sounds racist with all those hocus-pocus just because they are half Natives. The plot was exceedingly boring and about nothing. But if I could I would give it negative stars for the homeopathic theme. Saying that homeopathy really cures is like writing that sex with strangers should happen without a condom. A folly. Romance isn't a school book but some things should not be treated as a joke. And if you think I'm going around the bend the heroine cures herself after a car accident that almost killed her with arnica and in 3 days she walks and has no problems.
Odd man out is supposed to be a romantic suspense. But I read it like a Nancy Drew wannabe that knows nothing, is thicker than a brick and stumbles around mucking things. Together with the singer sidekick. Let's not talk about the law...
The Wild West, where the men and women still roam the plains looking for their partners. But something typically always messes it up and that's when it's time for them to prove their Tough Enough. As an anthology of classic romances, Tough Enough features the risks and choices that three rowdy cowboys and cowgirls take to find their love.
The Cowboy written by Jayne Ann Krentz, features a more contemporary view of the cowboy. When Margaret Lark gives up information to her boss about her boyfriend Rafe Cassidy's business deals, she gives up on a future life of love. But, when Rafe returns a year later, after relieving his flaming temper, Margaret has but one choice really: that is to stay with him. In this sweet heart wrenching book/novella, Jayne Ann Krentz weaves a winning set of characters and an interesting plot line for all cowboy turned executive lovers.
Written by Lindsay McKeena The Cougar, another almost full length book or novella, puts two enemies in a hazardous situation: should they love each other? Almost like a Romeo/Juliet situation, Jim Cunningham has loved Rachel Donovan since he was in sixth grade. The only thing that held him back then from telling her was their fathers, both enemies in the cattle industry. But when Rachel returns from England to help her sisters save the ranch, Jim has another chance, but he struggles internally. Will he give up his own namesake to tell her?
A short story, Murder at Last Chance Ranch, is a cowboy mystery that focuses around Teddi MacLane's soon to be ex-husband. Slipping in her murdered husband's blood as she walks into her house, Teddi is automatically accused of killing him by the people in her small town. And her only get out of jail card is to relying on her ex-boyfriend Sheriff Jake Rawlins.
Overall Tough Enough gives a reader three stories, placing you right into the heart of the west. And in the heart of the tough west it turns out there can be true love after all.
Given that I normally like Krentz's novels, I was very surprise to be completely turned off by both lead characters - primarily Rafe, but Margaret was initially very closed off - in "The Cowboy". Her coldness was explained soon enough, but it took a long time to discover Rafe's softer side. In my opinion, of the three short stories included in Tough Enough Lindsay McKenna's "The Cougar" was the most successful read. I liked all of the characters and the plot was enjoyable. I also enjoyed B.J. Daniels' very brief who-done-it romance.
Three romance stories. All about cowboys. Couldn't like Rafe from Jayne Ann Krent's story. He was too strong willed and didn't listen. Liked the other two "heroes". Liked the slightly supernatural spin to Linsay McKenna's story. Really liked how short B.J. Daniels story was compared to the longer (and rambling) of the previous two.
Lindsay McKenna's story was the best overall, B.J. Daniels story was only about 50 pages so while I enjoyed it, it seemed to be over before it started.
