"Hotaru commence elle aussi à être attirée par Kôsuke, mais alors qu’il vient la voir pour lui amener des polycopiés dans sa chambre, Yukako débarque et les trouve tous les deux… Se sentant trahie, elle décide de faire le maximum pour les séparer. De son côté, Kôsuke impose un marché à Hotaru : s’il bat son frère à un concours de tir à l’arc, il gagnera un rencard sinon, il abandonnera.".

The way her best friend stabbed her in the back and the way that Kousuke-kun act sometimes really piss me off, but I guess that is teen drama and behaviour. . .

It's incredible how these things didn't bother me as much when I was younger while reading this, but now I see things in a different manner 😅

A Note on Aikawa Saki
If you've read one, you've read them all.
If there's an author who I love and read despite my better judgment, it's Aikawa Saki. I absolutely adore her artwork. However, her plots and characters are virtually all the same and filled with cliches. Knowing all that, I still seem to love each and every one of her works.

Hotaru has finally managed to get into the same high school at which her long-time crush has become a teacher. But whenever she tries to approach Haruna sensei, her classmate Kosuke gets in the way. Just when she was noticing the resemblance between Haruna and Kosuke, she finds out that they are actually brothers.

Boku kara Kimi ga Kienai was my first work by Aikawa and has been a favourite of mine from the first. I can't say enough how much I love the art. And despite the repetitive themes and characters, there's just something about how Aikawa works her stories that just makes them such fun books to me.

One thing I really liked in this manga, and it is actually something that is not that common, is that both characters are pretty ordinary. By that, I mean that neither Hotaru nor Kosuke is your underdog trying to win over the most popular guy or girl at school. True, Hotaru has had her eye on Haruna sensei for quite a while and he is pretty popular, but looking at just the main characters, they are really just your normal teenagers at a new school.

In that same vein, I love how both were characterised. Hotaru was naive with some things, but she's never been in a relationship and is only just about to turn 16 - let's give her some slack. On the bright side, I loved how believable her actions were towards others. She has an argument with her best friend - she misses her but also feels anger, sees her own mistakes and tries to think of a way how to fix things while going through a phase of the two of them not talking to each other. She thought about her friend's feelings, but she also thought about what is important for herself - there's no point in just doing things to please others, friend or no friend. I also loved how she was the one to include other classmates after noticing that they are mostly alone.

Kosuke is a great male lead character! He can rude and unreasonable one moment and very kind and caring in the next. Seeing certain scenes from his point of view show that most of his less friendly moments are based on being nervous, not knowing what to say and having a bit of a complex about his older brother. In general, he's a nice guy who is also just making his first experiences in a new environment.

Boku kara Kimi ga Kienai is also a prime example why I don't understand the major hate against love triangles. This manga aside, I believe it all comes down to how well the other writes this particular plot device - same as with any other. There are hardly any stories that feature romance that don't have a love triangle of sorts, just as I think it's a pretty normal thing to happen in real life; you might love someone who doesn't love you back, someone else might love you who just isn't for you, your feelings might change and the list goes on.

This manga does all the right things with a love triangle. Hotaru has had a crush for two years, just when she starts to make advances towards the said crush, Kosuke makes a move towards her. Getting to know him, perhaps her feelings might change - and why not? There's no push and pull between the three, Hotaru never truly likes two men at the same time. It's not like love is a switch where it just jumps from one to the other - it develops gradually.

That being said, I also love Haruna as a character and, as far as I'm concerned, I would have been happy to see Hotaru end up with either. The only issue I had with this series was the unnecessary - though not unexpected - meddling ex-girlfriend. It seems impossible to read a high school romance manga without these kinds of characters popping up. Alas, most series will have something one doesn't like. But at the end of the day, I love this manga, clichés and all.

The story continued to be cute but a bit predictable. At least in this one there are a fiew problems woven into the mix of being in love, not being loved back, getting to know ones own feelings, having a friendship in danger. So it was nice to keep on reading. It's a fun and cute series.
