A ROSE Marjory Macpherson felt rebirth at hand. She'd known fifteen years of winter since her parents' brutal murder at the hands of the rival Cameron clan. But now Ewen—the enemy son she'd been forced to marry—was dead, perished in a rockslide. Marjory rejoiced. She could shed her thorns...at least, until her husband's father returned.
IS A ROSE Yet, was her husband dead? When Marjory went to retrieve Ewen's body, she found instead a living breathing man, covered in blood, talking strangely but very much alive.
BY ANY OTHER NAME Though he wore her husband's face and kilt, Marjory recognized salvation. Whether he was a kinder Ewen or another who, as he claimed, had been transplanted from the future, the man she'd found was the key, a strange twist of fate that reseeded Marjory's future. It was finally time for Crannag Mhór to bloom again: a rebirth that brought with it the promise of true love.

What to say about this...it was fine is the best way I can put it. It wasn’t exactly boring but I’m not going to rave about it either. The story was good, the romance was good for the timeline, but I felt like it was very tame. I guessed the surprises and twists of the book early on and throughout the book.
I was excited to get to read another book where the hero is the time traveler as it’s more common for the heroine to be the one who ends up in the past. “Ewen” was actually a decent guy who was very loyal and never made empty promises to Marjorie which I loved. His behavior was another thing, he didn’t like dealing with misunderstandings that included Marjorie. It seemed like he just couldn’t be bothered to deal with her. Whether it was her feelings getting hurt, not leading Aida on but not rejecting her either, or not standing up for her by trying to appease his family in evading the truth. He was honest to a point but didn’t try to make things better for anyone.
Marjorie was very harsh in the beginning but I understood why she would be. She dealt with her situation the way any woman in her position would. Always on her guard, distrusting of Ewen’s sudden change in character, not getting her hopes up. I admired her strong sense of protecting her land but agreed with the others that she put too much energy in defending her land BECAUSE her father told her to. She put her happiness to the side in order to keep control of her home. She came across as caring about Ewen a lot more than he appeared to care about her. She was the one who sought him out, asked him to stay with her when she was scared, called a truce even though she understandably was not obligated to do so, and took a stand with Aida in claiming him as hers. She put in much more work than he did and it seemed too one-sided. Ewen was just there for the ride and going with the flow of things.
Overall there wasn’t anything wrong with it because both characters had reasons for their actions and things they said. I could sympathize for both of them and don’t blame them much for their flaws. They were good people but not very interesting, to me that is. They did have some banter here and there to shake things up but I didn’t feel as if they had a true connection. It was like they fought with each other, then automatically bonded yet refused to give into their feelings with the exception of sex, and kept it very casual while also being mad at each other at the same time for one wanting to leave and the other for not understanding why they couldn’t stay. It was very meh for me. That’s the best way I can put it. Just not for me.
Wonderfully done. I do so love time travel books. This one turned all the typical and cliché bits sideways. A man, not a woman, is our traveler and he sems to be in possession of someone else's body. The usual damsel in distress is one tough woman. The mystery of who is Cameron really, what will happen when he remembers, and who did what to this or that person kept me interested through out. All the while feelings are developing and growing between Cameron and Marjory. Sadly, I have read too many books lately that skip the relationship building and I am left feeling dissatisfied. There is no short cuts with this book. I was cheering on the whole process as each character was built and thier story unfolded. I enjoyed this so much that I couldn't put it down. I bought both the kindle copy and the audible copy so I could continue with the story when my eyes and hands needed to do something else. As always Ross Pendleton was a joy to listen to.
I was actually surprised that I enjoyed this book. I am not used to having a guy as the main character but it was a refreshing change. I thought the book was very well done all though I was a little disappointed that I did not get to know anymore about the characters from the first book. I hope the next book is a good as this one!!
Despite being a fan of romance and time travel (The Time Traveller's Wife, hello), I was not a fan of this. The pacing of the plot was slow, draggy and at times, tiresome. The conflict between the two clans didn't seem to have organically sprought up and even then, I wasn't invested as a reader to find out the resolution to the conflict. The love between the two main characters seemed unbelivable and peppering it with cliched phrases made me not want to root for their happy ending. That being said, it was an interesting take on a time travel story. If you can't stand sappyness, skip this. If you are an avid time travel fan, give this a go
I really enjoyed this story. I couldn't put it down and it's one of the best I've read so far this year. I'm happy and mellow now:) it's good to read a stress free romance.
In 15th century Scotland, Marjory MacPherson is trapped in a loveless marriage to Ewen Cameron and is trying to keep her people safe. The MacPherson's and Cameron's have been enemies for decades. Ewen's father blames Marjory's father for the death of his wife while Marjory's parents were killed by Ewen's father and brother. The marriage was supposed to bring an end to the hostility but isn't working. When Marjory receives news that Ewen has died in a rock slide she doesn't know how to take it. On one hand, she's happy to be rid of him but on the other, she'll now have to defend her hold against Ewen's father. But when she gets to where Ewen's body was left, he's very much alive.
Cameron Even wakes up at the bottom of a mountain with no real memory of how he got there but the memories he does have do not match his surroundings. As his memory begins to return he realizes that he is far from that time and asks Marjory what year it is. Cameron and Marjory are drawn to each other and begin to forge something together. But will Cameron stay with Marjory or return to his time?
I really enjoy a good time travel book and loved this one. There was a great surprise with regards to time travelers. The book was well written and the historical aspect was great. I highly recommend this book to lovers of both romance and time travel.
Trapped in a loveless marriage, Marjory Macpherson rejoices at the news of her husband's death, only to find that he is, in fact, very much alive. Marjory has spent her life hating the Camerons, waiting for the day that she can avenge her father. Now suddenly, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to a man who is the enemy. Cameron Even awakes on the side of a Scottish mountain trapped in another man's body. Despite evidence supporting his fifteenth century existence, Cameron is faced with the fact that the few memories he does have clearly depict a different kind of life, one that will not exist for another five hundred years…

Having read the previous books, I was surprised to come across so many errors in this one... Could do with a better proofread. I enjoyed the 1st & 3rd of this series, but this one was less good imo, alot of unexplained things going on and other than time travel, no apparent connection with the previous books as we're now to believe body-swapping along the lines of the Netflix Travelers series?!
I read this book as part of my Kindle Unlimited subscription (free book but I have to pay £7.99 a month for the subscription)
This was definitely different than any of the Scottish time travel romance novels I have ever read...and I have read many. Spoiler alert...so man hears beeping noise, is in darkness, wakes up in someone else's body 500 years in the past. Neat concept that you are in a coma or die in your own time but your soul transports to another body in another time. How unnerving to be stuck in someone else's body/identity. But the whole story was interesting and I enjoyed reading it. On to book 5!
Loved it! Pretty unique in that it not only had a modern day hero go back in time instead of heroine, and that he also ended up in a different person's body instead of being physically transported whole. Pace was good. I liked that the characters were all given second chances at having a better life (and love life) and the reconciliation with a loved one previously thought long-lost. Well written action scenes, love scenes, touching moments.
A beautiful story. To me it started out slow and took me a while to get caught up in it. Once I did I couldn’t put it down. It is very different than the other stories. I was actually kinda surprised. I would have liked to see some more of the other characters in it, but they were connected. All in all I loved it and look forward to reading the next book.
This is a good time travel romance, with a likable couple. I liked that this one had the man traveling back in time, instead of the woman. I also liked the way the time travel happened more than in the first two books in the series -- no spoilers here, but it just made more sense to me. I think this is my favorite of the series so far.
Time Travel is my favorite and this series was so good! Dee Davis is an excellent writer. She writes fluidly, the characters are full and well described. The scenes are very realistic and colorful. I liked this one in particular as she put a different twist in the actual travel from others I have read. I will not comment further so as not to give any spoilers. I thoroughly enjoyed!!
The author is a great story teller and weaves a good story line full of intrigue and keeps me up at night just to see how it goes. Don't miss this time travel story.
This book had so many twists in it, I could not predict the next steps. Wonderful lively characters who had me smiling, laughing, and crying along with them.
I never thought that time travel could bring a person to life again. You have opened up my eyes to that. The story was good and fast. Thank you for a good read.
This time travel book has a modern day man going backwards. Very well written wit a lot going on to keep you reading. Very few edits needed which is refreshing. Dee Davis definitely created an awesome story!
My heart raced through this book. A man taking over another’s body living in the past but remembering the future. I cried when he found his mother and I laughed at other times. This is a remarkable book.
I really enjoyed this time-travel/historical romance. The hero and heroine were wonderful characters. The storyline had twists and turns. It was a very enjoyable read.
Liked the idea that this time it’s a male that travelled through time. Enjoyed the twist and turns of the story. Exciting like her time travel series, it’s a happy ending.
This is the one of th time travel book in a series of which I’ve read two. They were both fascinating and amazing, and I can’t wait to start the rest‼️📚
