I have had my nose buried in a history book - fact or fiction - for as long as I can remember, but even more important to me are the places and the objects that conjure up the past. My first attempt at historical fiction at the age of eight was three pages of improbable medieval drama set in the local castle.
With a degree in geography and archaeology I love to try and 'read' the landscape and the buildings in it for clues about the past. Virtually any place can trigger ideas for plots, but I am particularly inspired by Venice, Burgundy, Mediterranean islands and the Hertfordshire and Norfolk countryside.
I live in England in a village in Bedfordshire with my long-suffering husband. He is not sure whether to be flattered or alarmed to be told he is the inspiration for all my romantic heroes! Whenever possible we escape to our cottage on the North Norfolk coast where Percy, the bossy pheasant, allows us to share the garden.
My resolution every time I start on a new plot is to plan it carefully, make copious notes first and write lots of drafts in a disciplined and orderly manner. What inevitably happens is that the story starts to write itself in my head until it gets completely out of control - meanwhile my study floor becomes a sea of open books, prints and maps and I am found sitting in the car at traffic lights, muttering dialogue. At that point I have to start writing, knowing full well that the hero and heroine are going to take over and sabotage all my attempts at discipline. It is, after all, their story.

Il migliore della trilogia. Mentre sta andando dall’India in Inghilterra per contrarre un matrimonio di convenienza, Averil, ricchissima figlia di commercianti, finisce in mare durante un naufragio e viene salvata da un gruppo di uomini su una spiaggia.
All’apparenza si tratta di un gruppo di spietati predoni, ma c’è un motivo se si nascondono la’.
Un romanzo strano ma avvincente, la vita sull’isola e’ ben descritta e coerente, così come è intenso il periodo di arrivo a Londra, in balia di nobili avidi.
Una stellina in meno per il finale trascinato, con una serie di aggiunte inutili. Luke era l’uomo giusto da sempre, a momenti l’indecisione rischiava di costare cara.

Su barco naufraga cuando va camino a Inglaterra a contraer matrimonio con un hombre al que aún no conoce, es salvada de ser violada por unos marineros que la encuentran en la playa por un apuesto y malgeniado capitán mestizo. Luc la salva, llevándola a su habitación, haciéndoles creer a todos que ella le pertenecía, aunque la realidad fuese distinta.
La verdad es una historia encantadora, romántica, lenta. Bastante graciosa. Me gusta ella, tiene bastante mal genio, y no duda en hacérselo saber. Pero sabe cuando ceder, sabe cuando decir que sí, o que no.

Definitely the best of the three books in the trilogy! Luc and Averil. WHOO. Luc is dangerous, mysterious, and damn sexy. You could have written a book about him eating soup and I would read it. What a fascinating character. His journey for redemption is just amazing. Averil's journey to becoming a strong independent woman who can speak her mind is also a plus for this book.

I liked the heroine. However, I was not enamoured of the Hero, Luc who was decidedly lacking in honour. He was quite happy to ruin a young girl for his own selfish pleasure. It was another of those stories where the plot rests a lot on lack of communication and misunderstanding, something I do not enjoy. I did however enjoy the setting for the plot, the sea journey, the shipwreck and the basic outline, ie Luc on a secret mission and his miserable rabble of men.
I was not enamoured of the editing. This book has a publisher (Mills and Boon historical) so it should have been of higher standard than an indie book, which it was not. For one example, the character Braden was on some occasions written as Brandon.
I was tempted to give this book a two star rating based on personality and relationships and editing, but the outline of the plot was good so up'ed it to three.

An adventuresome shipwreck story. The heroine is discovered stark naked on a beach after the ship she was traveling in from India is wrecked. Worse, the discovery is made by a bunch of scurvy knaves. Fortunately, they are commanded by the hero, who is a half-French captain in the English navy. The group is on a secret mission, and the heroine needs tending, so they have to keep her, and to keep her safe, the captain has to convince his men that she's his woman and he doesn't share. The adventure takes up only the first half of the book, with the heroine having further adventures after she reaches London and the earl's heir her father contracted for her to marry. It's a fun, sexy, adventurous read. I liked it a lot.

Mais uma vez Louise cria personagens interessantes. Neste Averil, a amiga de Lady Perdita de “Vidas em Jogo” que estava desaparecida depois do naufrágio, é encontrada nua em uma das ilhas por homens que estavam sem ver uma mulher a muito tempo.
A “sereia”, uma herdeira inglesa, filha de comerciantes e prometida de lorde Brandon, um futuro conde, é reivindicada pelo Capitão Luc D’Aunay, um misterioso filho de um francês com uma inglesa, moreno, narigudo e terrivelmente atraente.
A trama é deliciosa e o Luc muito mais, hehe, só achei que faltou algo... mais ação no final... uma luta que o enredo tinha tudo para ter.
Mesmo assim recomendo por que gostei muito...

A parte qualche passaggio breve ma esilarante, Louise non brilla per originalità. La trama scorre un po’ a rilento e gli eventi si succedono con poco ritmo. I personaggi però son ben delineati e nella seconda parte del romanzo danno il meglio di sé. L’inizio piratesco è abbastanza inverosimile, d’altronde sono libri fatti per sognare.

Read a couple of Mills & Boon books coz I got em for free. They were fine but, due to the era they were set in, ultimately depressing due to the aspirations of the heroines and unfortunate circumstances of being a woman in the period setting.

We continue the saga of the Danger and Desire series. We start the book with Miss Averil Heydon wash ashore found by a motley crew of men. However, was reacued by Captin Luc d'Aunany. Luc is torn with the duty to find out who is the traitor and nursing the girl back to health.
The mission a success, yet somewhere along the road he loses his heart, but doesn't recognize that it's gone. Isn't that always the case. Growing up with a lost identity he was sure who he really is, half French and half British. Deciding that he wants to regain his French roots decides torrey a French girl. However, he can't let go of Averil. Should he sacrifice his dream for love? During all this we meet Averil cold-hearted betrothed Lord Brandon. Will our to find love with each other or continue with the path that have been living with for ages?
Seduce by the Scoundrel was a pretty good read. At times it kind of drag. It could have been me. However, I must finish the series, because I'm committed. So, I hope that the last book will give me a satisfying ending.

This was fabulous. The transformation of Averil from shy, good girl to strong, sensuous woman, with a mind of her own, was so very nicely done. I adored her and Luc. His inability to see beyond what he thought he wanted and what he really wanted was well brought out, too. I adored them as a couple. I had really liked Averil as Dita's friend in the first book
Ravished by the Rake
and it was so interesting to see her become herself fully in this story. The final touch of how Dita and Alistair regain the wooden box of toys was a nice touch.

Not sure that Luc is a complete scoundrel, but this was still a fun read. It also made me break my rule of not reading series out of order, since I'm yet to track down the first book of the trilogy but have started on the third. A good cast of supporting characters too -- more than I'd expect in a book of this type -- and all of them give the impression of having their own stories to tell even if those wouldn't quite fit the category restrictions.

This was a pretty good book. I liked the characters and the story line. There were a few twists, plenty of emotions, some aggravating head bashing moments, some hold-your-breath parts, a really mean oh-no-they-didn't scene and a good ending. This is something I wouldn't mind reading again. Good for snuggling in, cuddling up and relaxing with cocoa or popcorn. Enjoy
