The Translucent Revolution: How Ordinary People are Waking up and Changing the World: How People Just Like You Are Waking Up and Changing the World by Arjuna Nick Ardagh

Rate this book
The growing phenomenon known as translucence is effecting a gentle yet profound revolution in human consciousness. Millions of people from all walks of life are experiencing a deep change in awareness, an experience marked by a new sense of well-being, and increasing joy in life, a diminishing of fear — including fear of death — and a natural impulse to serve the world in a real way. The Translucent Revolution describes this awakening and offers readers ample opportunities to cultivate and encourage the qualities of translucence in their own lives. Drawing from a highly convincing body of evidence, observations from pioneers in the field of human consciousness, and a vast pool of powerful stories, the book explores the effects of translucence on many aspects of contemporary western life, including personal relationships, sex, parenting, education, psychotherapy, medicine, aging, business, and global politics.

In 1995 Ardagh developed the Living Essence Training. Ardagh is a member of the Transformational Leadership Council, a private members' organisation for motivational speakers. He speaks at international conferences, and has appeared on TV, on the radio, and in print media. He also teaches the Deeper Love seminars with his Norwegian wife, Chameli Gad Ardagh. They live in Nevada City, California with his two sons.

I went to bed early every night while I was reading this book to get a few more pages in. It not only was interesting and enlightening, it actually made me happy. It's such a hopeful vision of the world... I'd recommend this to anyone who has considered the possibility that we are all, ultimately, one.

This book gave me a lot to think about. The author had a lot of interesting things to say about the way that he sees consciousness evolving in our society, in many manifold ways. I appreciated a lot of the dialogue happening in this book revolving around personal growth or recognition of what the "personal" truly is. Every few years, it is good for me to read a book about consciousness expansion, and this book has been sitting on my shelf for a few years now. I was glad to be able to sit down with it these last few weeks and examine different aspects of potential awakening that I can invite into my life with more focused attention to the moment as it is. The subjects in this book are pretty broad and while the facts have become a bit out of date I am sure that the trends that are referred to are still continuing to one degree or another. I appreciated that the subjects in this book made for some great conversation starting points between myself and my partner about the nature of ourselves and our relationship to various aspects of life we each experience together and separately.

An interesting thesis but the book is badly written and far too repetitive. It could be at most half the length with the same effect.

Combines spiritual insight, fascinating information, and ways to which to empower who we are. I highly recommend to anyone on a spiritual path who wants to live an authentic life.

I truly enjoyed the author's warmth and sense of humor. I did find the last quarter of the book a bit preachy with the nudges towards recycling, buying organic produce, watching less TV, getting involved politically etc. The thing is, I don't want to turn off the TV because I think it's the spiritual thing to do. I want to turn off the TV because the desire to do so arises naturally out of me. The author makes this point in the beginning when he writes about forgiveness (and does so beautifully), but then there's that bit at the end (I realize this could be my projection). This book is so worth a read though because of the author's description of what spirituality looks like today. I also enjoyed the wonderful (but all too brief) interviews with Byron Katie, Eckhart Tolle, Jack Canfield, Ram Dass and others. I loved the short story of J. Krishnamurti smacking his forehead in response to a clueless fan. Oh, and the author's experience while killing time in a New Age bookstore is funny! The chapter on Leonard Cohen was eye-opening to me and perfectly illustrates the difference between New Age and spirituality (I mean, translucence...).

This book has some amazing concepts and is very relevant to what is happening in the world today. I think that the author is right in that a new kind of consciousness is developing and new definitions of what it means to be enlightened are being shaped. I like how he talks of how women connect instead of withdrawing from the world and how it is very possible to achieve a kind of kitchen sink enlightenment whilst in the middle of everyday living and not in a cave on a high mountain...the only downside to this book is it is very repetitive, I think it could have survived some pretty heavy editing and come out the other side a lot more readable and with the same core messages.

what this book gives me is much more than textual inspiration, but also the immense power it brings forth from my buried subconsciousness, which I have long forgotten. in the light of all those happening in HK which seem both depressing and hopeless, Ardagh and all her fellow authors injects a renewed perspective in my role in this evolution of enlightenment, an brings me out from my egoic misery. thank you.

This book changed my perspective of life to be translucent doesn't mean to be perfect. It means to accept life and not dwell on what's wrong with it. The beauty is in the chaos.
