The desires he ignites in her made him the most dangerous man in the world.
Janet Chapman returns to the breathtaking Maine coast in the second novel featuring two passionate sisters . . . and the men who have what it takes to love them.
Willow Foster is committed to protecting Maine's precious coastline. She's equally committed to avoiding her one-time fling, Duncan Ross, the rugged Scotsman who's got her hometown believing she's the love of his life. But when Willow goes home to uncover the mystery behind a worrisome lobster catch, she learns that pub owner Duncan holds some mysteries of his own . . . and that taking a chance with her heart might open her life up to passion beyond her wildest dreams.
Hey guys its Jessica. Sorry I’ve been MIA for so long. I apologize for the long overdue wait for Janet’s next book. You’ve all been very patient and loyal fans that she loves. She has been working on this book over the last year and a half while dealing with her battle with cancer. It saddens me to say that she peacefully lost this battle this past weekend while her family was by her side. I apologize if this feels sudden, she was a very private person even to her family. And she truly thought of all of you as her family. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Librarian Note: There is more than one author in the GoodReads database with this name.
Janet Chapman is the author of twenty-two contemporary and magical romance novels, all of which are set in her beautiful state of Maine. She lives in a cozy log home on a beautiful lake with her husband, surrounded by an eclectic assortment of wildlife that she finds both entertaining and inspiring. Probably best known for her Highlander Series (a saga of twelfth century warriors rebuilding their clans in modern-day Maine that now spans three generations), Janet also has two spin-off magical series (Midnight Bay & Spellbound Falls) and several contemporary family series set on the coast and in the mountains. With over three million books printed in six languages, her stories regularly appear on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller’s lists.
When she’s not writing (well, when she should to be writing but isn’t), Janet and her husband are traveling the state in their camper throughout all four seasons; hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and generally rubbing elbows with Mother Nature while always keeping an eye out for colorful new characters—human and beast—to put in her stories.
Cover weiterhin ein Graus, aber auch Teil 2 war toll. Hatte etwas von nach Hause kommen <3 ich habe zwar nicht so viel gelacht wie bei Teil 1, trotzdem war es toll!!!
After having gotten the first book in a swap with someone from GR, I just had to find out what happened in the second book. Although they are separate plots, they should definitely be read in order as much reference is made from book two to one.
In this installment, Willow Foster is working for the Maine Attorney General's office when her she is asked to look into a case of possible illegal waste dumping. The danger grows as she starts tracking down the culprits. All the while she is fending off the advances of her one-time fling and rescuer from book one, Duncan Ross. It's not so much that she doesn't want him, but that she doesn't want to love him back.
Most of the book is suspenseful and the dialog is usually fun. However, the inexplicable actions of the bad-guys kept this from being more than a three star book for me.
Duncan Ross had already decided that Willow Foster was the woman for him but she was too stubborn to realize how well they went together. Willow had come home from the AG's office in the State capitol to talk with an old friend of hers that needed her help with a problem he and his fellow lobster fishermen were having with dead or dying lobsters. After doing some snooping around, Willow discovered that someone was dumping chemicals illegally in the water around her hometown. She needed Duncan's help and together they followed the clues to find the criminals but unfortunately they were discovered and were kidnapped along with Duncan's best friend and Willow's friend from the State lab. This is a great mystery and romance and it is a great read.
Done with her usual flair of dramatics and humor. I loved the character of Willow Foster And Duncan Ross being a Duke never even occurred to me. I do however remember the Lobster wars going on years back in actuality, and even some really bad things in the news. This story brought it all back to my mind and it made this book more believable. Though there was one thing that stood out to me, the changing of the name of the Oakes sloop. It is my understanding that you NEVER change the name of any sea going vessel once it had been christened with a name and set to sail, It is total bad luck for the owner and the vessel.
This is the second book in the Puffin Harbor series. You do not need to read the first one to enjoy this one but it does continue on with some of the characters from the first so would recommend reading these in order. I have read this book before and would read it again. One of those old friends that you want to visit every so often. I like when the author mixes humor in the books and I am not disappointed with this one as there are parts that are funny. Yet there is also serious parts. I enjoy her world building and the characters. She makes them feel real and relatable. I would recommend this book to others and have.
An entertaining novel that was extremely predictable (but still fun to read).
This one had a bit of action and a lot of romance. It also featured some interesting bits relating to the disposal of hazardous waste.
Ultimately this is more of the same from Chapman. Which means that fans will enjoy this latest installment but those who are looking for something unique / memorable will be disappointed.
I chose this rating because it was a well written story with unknown story lines and many different matches and love stories that could have have made many good books.I only wish Janet was still here to write more. I will reread all her books over and over again.
I think, of the two, I preferred the first one but this was still great. The plot was a little predictable (which isn’t a bad thing!) and it kept things moving along nicely. Wonderful small town characters, and I loved Duncan’s confidence meeting Willow’s smarts.
Lots of fun during the contest of wills. Beautiful sailing vessel, lovely countryside, a touch of mystery, all rolled in romance, with a few twists. Just delightful.
Whew! What an ending to way too few stories in this series. I knew that Scot was special, lol. This is truly a wonderful love story with a whole lot of intrigue.
The Dangerous Protector follows the story of Willow Foster and Duncan Ross, two characters who first met in The Seductive Impostor by Janet Chapman. As an assistant attorney general, Willow’s investigation into illegal chemical dump sites places her life and job in jeopardy. Full of danger and intrigue, The Dangerous Protector is a suspenseful story that was riveting and kept me impatiently waiting to find out how things would end up. Another great novel by Janet Chapman.
Willow is Rachel's younger, much more stubborn sister, who is afraid of commitment. Which is why she's been avoiding Duncan for the past 18 months after waking up from a night of passion with him to find him planning their future together. Duncan, for his part, has been patient, waiting for Willow to realize how much she loves him. In the meantime, Willow has stumbled upon something dangerous in her office, which she decides to investigate with a little help from Duncan and his team. During the few days that they'll spend together, Willow has to decide whether she's ready to trust her heart to Duncan.
So I love the fact that Duncan is completely in love with Willow from the start, has been totally celibate and patient in waiting for her and is just starting to get a bit desperate with what to do about her. He is a delightful hero who unfortunately stays a bit too much of a mystery throughout the story, but it does make him much more enigmatic, more romantically mysterious. Willow is somewhat annoying, given her insecurities about love and what not. But I still liked her. And the suspense plot is pretty enjoyable here too. The romance in this story, especially compared to the previous one in the series, seriously falls flat. Duncan and Willow have a great, loving relationship, but their chemistry and passion was seriously lacking. In this entire story, they kiss a few times, cuddle a lot and make love once, and it was seriously underwhelming. There isn't much discussion about their relationship either. There wasn't really any closure discussion or anything. Mostly it's Willow making her decision and surprising Duncan with it and they never get a chance to talk about it. This was still a good story in it's own right, but the suspense overshadows the romance and it hardly even compares to the awesomeness of the first one.

The Dangerous Protector (Puffin Harbor Book #2) by Janet Chapman
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Willow Foster is committed to protecting Maine's precious coastline. She's equally committed to avoiding her one-time fling, Duncan Ross, the rugged Scotsman who's got her hometown believing she's the love of his life. But when Willow goes home to uncover the mystery behind a worrisome lobster catch, she learns that pub owner Duncan holds some mysteries of his own...and that taking a chance with her heart might open her life up to passion beyond her wildest dreams.
When a lobster-man, Ray Cobb, alerts Maine Assistant Attorney General Willow Foster to the presence of contaminants and dead lobsters in Puffin Harbor, she begins a personal and secret investigation. She's unofficially assisted by bar owner and former Navy-man Duncan Ross, whose offers of both marriage and passion she's been resisting since a one-night stand 18 months earlier. As the two explore both the corporate paper trail and the local seascape, Duncan reveals that he's actually a Scottish lord, while Willow is forced to grapple with her fear of commitment.
Occasionally I like to mix it up and read a nice historical romance or some hot contemporary story. This was definitely a likable read, plus it's been sitting on my library shelf for years (yes, years!) unread. Right off the back, Duncan (aka Dunky) and Willow (aka Counselor) steamed up the pages with their chemistry. Duncan's made it clear his ready to take the next step while Willow is hesitant and basically goes the opposite directions every time a serious relationship talk comes up. They blend together so well from the beginning that it's hard not to enjoy them as a couple. Duncan moved to Maine from Scotland and opened a bar two years previously, while Willow is a local AG and works on cases non-stop unless she's visiting her sister, Rachel, in Puffin Harbor. Whenever Ducan and Willow see each other, they bicker, they flirt, they secretly share kisses and more . . . and now the whole town is placing bets on their wedding even though neither are officially together. Too fun! This was a quick read for me, maybe since it was a nice change from my normal reading style, and the mystery part to the story flowed smoothly throughout. Didn't feel rushed or bada-bing-bada-bang (abruptly finished) at the end, like some stories can be. Nothing Paranormal. Nothing Supernatural. Nothing Fantasy related. Just an easy HOT read . . . just what I wanted!
Likes: I enjoyed the town's betting pool for when --or rather if the wedding between Duncan and Willow will take place and having the various citizens of the Harbor admit who (and how much) they bet on.
Dislikes: There are definitely a lot of characters going on throughout the story and perhaps if I would have read Book #1 (The Seductive Impostor) first, I wouldn't have been confused trying to remember who was who.
I hate to give this a one-star rating, but I've now picked it up three times and still can't get more than a few chapters into it. I feel like I have to rate it, as a warning to my future self!
The trouble is I've read and enjoyed many of Chapman's other books. She's not great, but she does like to get her heroines pregnant, which I rather enjoy. So whenever I'm in a drought, I look through her catalog and think, "Oh yeah, I haven't read this book."
Why can't I get into it? The setup utterly fails for me. Willow is a sex-starved woman who hasn't gotten any in 18 months, since she had a one-night stand with Duncan. Now he's trying to convince her to marry him while she's afraid of commitment. To make matter worse, word has gotten out that he's courting her, and the town is placing bets.
If that sounds good to you -- read on! Enjoy the book. I hope you do.
But I just can't help feeling that I'm tiptoeing into a story more than halfway through, and that the entire setup is a quest for the three magic words.
A quick little adventurous romance concerning a workaholic state's assistant attorneys general who cannot seem to get her mind off of an extremely handsome Scottish bar owner in a small hometown seaport. Willow Foster will just not give into the feelings that she is having towards the attractive Duncan Ross...especially now that the whole town has bet whether or not she will marry the gorgeous charming hunk. In addition to dealing with Duncan, Willow is investigating the reason why so many lobsters are sick and dying off the Maine coast where the residents of Puffin Harbor drop their traps daily. What has been causing these lobsters to become so sickly? That is what Willow, Duncan and their friends are trying to find out. I did like the romance between Willow and Duncan...the rebellious and insecure female versus the protective and passionate male. The mystery with the lobsters seemed a little silly and outlandish. It was just an "okay" read to me.
This was a fast read for me. it took less than a day. I did like the book, but Willow started to bug me after a while. She was way too fickle for me. Also the build up was long and it was wrapped up in a summary at the end.
I wish it was more than 2 pages for dealing with the criminals instead of orders given and then they were out of the picture. Oh well. I also wish there was more character description. There was for kee, but not the rest of the men.
I am rushing through different series because I am at a point where I am having intense crossover and wonder where people went in the other series I read. Sooo hence the rush. I have 3 more to go and I am caught up with all of these. Wheew!
The battle of wills between Willow and Duncan is outrageous and at times, hysterical and totally romantic. Some parts of this were laugh out loud funny. He is the perfect man and right along with Willow, you couldn't help but fall in love with him. Willow was fiery, tender and easy to relate to. A truly romantic novel with danger, adventure, lobstermen, cops, lawyers. A real round robin of characters.
Janet Chapman does it again. Not as good as the first few books in this series but well worth the read. Really remarkable characters in both Willow and Duncan.
Book #2 in the Puffin Harbor Series and it should be read in order. Funny! Modern-day romance. Willow is an Assistant D.A. and gets caught up in a case of polluted water. This is a neat read. Both sisters have a little secret in their hometown that involves...mailboxes. And that's all I'll say about that.
Second in the Puffin Harbor series and just as good as the first. Once again good love story, great story involving poisoned lobsters and criminals after the heroine with her protector watching our for her whether she likes it or not. Wish there were more to the series. After all - how many more men are aboard that boat?
I love this book-Janet did a great job keeping my attention. I could not put the book down. I am beginning to love all of Janet Chapman's Duncan's ( Duncan from this book and Duncan from Charmed by his love) Yum-I need to find a Duncan lol. It was a great story and the bond with all the characters-love love Love!!!!
The Dangerous Protector by Janet Chapman Puffin Harbor #2. Willow Foster is an assistant attorney general in Maine, some of her friends have shown her a hugh Ecological problem Lobsters are dying around Thunder Island. Someone is dumping something toxic on the island. Ross Duncan is going to save her from herself and the bad guys.
This has my favorite kind of romance where the male steadfastly pursues the female. Maine's assistant attorney general Willow investigates lobster contamination with the help of Scottish bar owner Duncan.
Another great installment of the Puffin harbor people and their adventures! It was great to see Willow and Duncan's relationship more. Janet did a great job with this book. :)
I hope to see other installments of the other men from Kee's old salvage group and their love stories.
This is the 2nd book in the Foster sisters. This was about Duncan and Willow. We found out that Duncan is a Duke and his mother is a Duchess. It was kind of funny in spots and had a lot of mystery in this one.
