This book is dedicated to your mastery of the art of realizing all your desires. The greatest gift you have been given is the gift of your imagination. Everything that now exists was once imagined. And everything that will ever exist must first be imagined.
Wishes Fulfilled is designed to take you on a voyage of discovery, wherein you can begin to tap into the amazing manifesting powers that you possess within you and create a life in which all that you imagine for yourself becomes a present fact.
Dr. Wayne W. Dyer explores, for the first time, the region of your highest self; and definitively shows you how you can truly change your concept of yourself, embark upon a God-realized way of living, and fulfill the spiritual truth that with God all things are possible—and “all things” means that nothing is left out.
By practicing the specific technique for retraining your subconscious mind, you are encouraged to not only place into your imagination what you would like to manifest for yourself, but you are given the specifics for realigning your life so you can live out your highest calling and stay connected to your Source of being. From the lofty perspective of your highest self, you will learn how to train your imagination in a new way.
Your wishes—all of them—can indeed be fulfilled. By using your imagination and practicing the art of assuming the feeling of your wishes being fulfilled, and steadfastly refusing to allow any evidence of the outer world to distract you from your intentions, you will discover that you, by virtue of your spiritual awareness, possess the ability to become the person you were destined to be.
This book will help you See—with a capital S—that you are divine, and that you already possess an inner, invisible higher self that can and will guide you toward a mastery of the art of manifestation. You can attain this mastery through deliberate conscious control of your imagination!
Wayne Walter Dyer was an American self-help author and a motivational speaker. Dyer earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy, a Master’s degree in Psychology and an Ed.D. in Guidance and Counseling at Wayne State University in 1970. Early in his career, he worked as a high school guidance counselor, and went on to run a successful private therapy practice. He became a popular professor of counselor education at St. John's University, where he was approached by a literary agent to put his ideas into book form. The result was his first book, Your Erroneous Zones (1976), one of the best-selling books of all time, with an estimated 100 million copies sold. This launched Dyer's career as a motivational speaker and self-help author, during which he published 20 more best-selling books and produced a number of popular specials for PBS. Influenced by thinkers such as Abraham H. Maslow and Albert Ellis, Dyer's early work focused on psychological themes such as motivation, self actualization and assertiveness. By the 1990s, the focus of his work had shifted to spirituality. Inspired by Swami Muktananda and New Thought, he promoted themes such as the "power of intention," collaborated with alternative medicine advocate Deepak Chopra on a number of projects, and was a frequent guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
Early in his book “Wishes Fulfilled: Mastering the Art of Manifesting” Wayne Dyer encourages his readers to declare this bold statement. The key to manifesting your desires, Dyer believes, is recognizing your divine nature and live from that.
Now this statement will immediately cause some readers to toss the book aside. “Much of organized religious teaching proclaims that God is an all powerful being outside of you,” Dyer says. People of that mindset will no doubt consider “Wishes Fulfilled” heresy.
I would encourage you to stick with Dyer and let him explain this different concept of God than what you may be familiar with. “There exists within all of us a Divine spark, called the I am that I am, and when it is kindled and nourished, it is capable of miracle-making at an astonishing level,” Dyer writes.
Two keys to “miracle-making”, says Dyer, are your imagination and feelings. “Once you place a thought into your imagination about who you want to become, I encourage you to live from that end, as if it had already materialized into the physical realm,” he writes. And “when you are able to passionately feel whatever it is that you wish to have or become, as long as it is aligned with your highest self – that is, God – you become it and it becomes you.”
I liked these ideas and looked backed at the accomplishments in my own life. Did I not first “imagine” that I could create something special, and “feel” it was possible, before my past visions became reality? Yes! Reading Dyer’s detailed explanation of this process encouraged me to make these mental exercises a part of my daily routine. I created a one page summary of the book’s key points and pasted it to my “quote wall” at home, where I look at it every day. I am excited to see what future “miracles” occur in my life by following these principles.
Dyer gives many examples throughout the book from his own life and from others on how this process can change lives. One in particular I was impressed with was the story of Anita Moorjani, a woman who was on the brink of death yet healed herself of cancer after a realization of her true loving nature. Dyer also touches on other spiritual phenomena, like the presence of mysterious “orbs” in photographs at his lectures, and his own remote healing from the Brazilian “John Of God”.
Wayne Dyer in my opinion is one of the great spiritual teachers alive on the planet today. “Wishes Fulfilled” is another in his series of inspirational books that have had a positive impact on my life. “Let your imagination explore your invisible realm in a way that will allow this new energy to permeate your life,” Dyer suggests. “Move to a place within yourself where Wishes Fulfilled is a new way of being rather than just the title of a book.”
This is another book review in my partnership with Hay House. I was not financially compensated for this post. I received the book from Hay House for review purposes. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.
This is one book I absolutely LOVED!! I have read so many books by Dr Wayne Dyer, and this is by far his best one. He talks about the importance of the words 'I AM' and how we can use these two words to manifest our deepest desires. Seriously, what could we not achieve by using those two words carefully. Point is, many, many, many of us don't even know how we weaken ourselves (and our spirits) by misusing those 2 words (e.g: I am weak, I am tired, I am not talented, I am not meant for this, I am not beautiful etc etc) Guess what happens then, what you are referring to in your I AM's, that's who you become, that's what manifests in your real life. I know it's true. Ever wondered why half the things that happen to you aren't actually the things that you called for in your life? What are your deepest thoughts about yourself? Do you believe what others say about you? And what about all those negative noises that your mind makes?
Dr Dyer takes us through the A to Z of 'wish fulfillment' keeping the reader at the center of the discussion at all times. He shares nuggets of wisdom from ancient and contemporary literature on the subject. Loved the way he quotes Neville Goddard and 'I AM' discourses of the Saint Germain Foundation. I think I wouldn't have been able to relate to this book had it come to me 20 years ago. But today, I can so relate to everything Dr Dyer says. I esp loved the last section of the book where he takes us through his hypnosis experience. That was bold. I would recommend this book to anybody who wants to lead a more fulfilling life. Strongly recommended to my entire GR family! Love and hugs. xx
This is a Law of Attraction book. It has all of the standard concepts that are typically presented in these types of writings and it remains faithful to the efforts by Holmes, Fillmore and Neville, who is referenced heavily throughout the book. What I found to be daring, and what might turn off some readers, is Dyer's concept that not only are we part of the Universal Mind (God) but, as creators of our own reality, we ARE God. Dyer also places a lot of emphasis on the idea of "I AM" and living as a being of love from your highest, godly self.
The basic steps to Dyer's practice include:
* Imagine a clear picture of your desired life.
* Live from that mental picture.
* Assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled.
* Apply subjective attention to keep the dream alive.
* Hold the vision in your mind just prior to entering the sub/unconscious world of sleep.
I'm new to the ideas of New Thought and have just started my studies. The older texts are esoteric but Dyer makes the concepts easy to understand using modern analogies and providing examples from his life.
I expected much more from this book. Sure, it probably is very helpful to follow the advice and I believe it may actually work if you're ready to start reprogramming your way of thinking which I'm not. What I didn't like about the book were all the religious and unnatural aspects of the book. There was just too much spirituality in all of this for such a non-believer as me. What I need is science, psychology, practicality, not someone mentioning God every other page as if you had to be religious to be able to achieve anything. It's the main reason I didn't take the book as serious as I should have and that's why I can give it only 2 stars.
I have read Wayne Dyer off and on through the years, and I have always liked his message, though not always his tone. In this offering, Dyer seems a bit more humble, perhaps because of unwanted life events that showed up on his doorstep. Rattled a bit, but unshaken in his beliefs, he came out on the other side with greater self awareness and capacity for love. Dyer has always been a student and seeker as well as teacher, and he generously attributes his sources. Here he explores earlier New Thought writings, a friend's near death experience, various mysterious manifestations in his own life such as unexplainable orbs appearing in photographs, remote healing, and a past life regression. I was surprised that he was only now discovering the "I AM" teachings, and references an esoteric book that I read decades ago in my early twenties (and still have in my library). I felt that this effort of Dyer's, which is relatively short, was not all that cohesive, rambling off topic from the "Wishes Fulfilled" theme to cover various events occurring in his life. I did like his treatment of the "I AM" as your Highest Self, and his explanation for a mostly Christian audience of its compatibility with Jesus' teachings. This is a good book for those open-minded enough to receive his message. Wishes Fulfilled is a current treatment of esoteric teachings that have been around since at least the 1930's and 40's, with a nod to past life regression which seemed to have had its heyday in the 80's and early 90's, as well as the popular topic of NDE's and newer phenomena. However, for those who are well-versed in metaphysical teachings as well as the law of attraction, there is nothing new here. But Wayne Dyer does deserve credit for broaching these topics as he continues on his own journey towards spiritual self-awareness.
I chose to read this book after watching Dr. Wayne Dyer's special on PBS. I am a huge fan, but seeing the special gave me the urgency to read it now. Though the sources he uses are not new (Neville, the I am discourses from St. Germaine, the Bible, the Tao, St. Frances of Assisi), I found this work to be fresh and inspirational. If you have struggled with trying to tap into the "feeling" of what it is that you want to manifest (a key to getting your wishes fulfilled), Dr. Dyer offers sound concepts on getting yourself there. In this book, Dr. Dyer addresses what has long been a criticism of the loa movement- the concern about selfishness. He shows that the ego gets in the way of manifesting and that when we move to our higher self, we set aside the ego and approach our wishes from a place of the divine and pure love. I appreciate that he writes about things he practices and studies heavily- so I immediately felt the authenticity bubble up. There were several instances while reading this book, that I felt tears stream down my face. I was touched by his generosity when sharing Nicollete's healing story- a young woman he met in Maui. I was touched when he shared about a healer-John of God, and I loved his account of his experience on his trip to Assisi.
What do I think? I know this is what all of us should be reading and then taking Wayne Dyer's words to heart. There are many, many authors, speakers, teachers and all are saying the same things in their own way. I have experienced first-hand the art of manifesting, and yet there are (too many) times when I "forget" and get lost. For me, now, I am devoting a portion of my time, DAILY, to making this a high priority in my life, an important part of my life, to teach it to those who will listen, and so on and so on, until it is who I AM, until it is second nature, until infinity. It is so simple and yet due to our conditioning and such, we are as in a fog. Moving forward, I Am.

This is yet another book on manifesting whatever you want. The difference here is that, based on the “I AM Discourses” by Saint Germain, Dyer’s idea is not to bring about manifestation using affirmations such as “this is coming to me” or prayers petitioning God for what is needed or wanted, but rather convincing ourselves that we ARE God (without ego) and therefore, can bring anything we wish into manifestation in the world.
Including forays into long-distance surgery and past (or parallel) life regressions, Dyer explains how and why to concentrate on believing that you already have whatever it is you want and how that feels, based on the foundational belief that imagination creates everything. Diagnosed with leukemia himself, 70-year-old Dyer uses his own experiences to illustrate his bottom line that love is all there is. It is who we all are and we have to be it -- not look for it or ask for it or want it -- just be it. This seems simultaneously simple and yet hard to understand much less to do. To be love, forgiveness, joy, abundance, happiness.... To stop thinking of anything you want as outside of yourself.
This is not a totally new idea, but Dyer offers some specific concepts and exercises that may be tough to swallow. Some will consider it blasphemy, others simply harmless hogwash. Those who explore all kinds of religious and new thought meditations and ideas will find it an interesting, while not earth-shattering, addition to their repertoire. There’s also a companion meditation CD available.
When I found out this book was coming out, I was immediately interested in obtaining a copy. I have read several books by Dr. Dyer and every time one of his books finds a way into my life in the exact right time, as he says, in synchronicity with the situation that I'm living.
It was with no surprise that I found Wishes Fulfilled, Mastering the Art of Manifesting, another jewel of inspiration. Full of extraordinary testimonies to the power of manifestation, the book provides fascinating insight into the law of attraction, presented in an easy to read format that flows peacefully within our minds. The examples that Dr. Dyer provides about his own life and his family's life as well as the lives of other people that come in contact with him in a synchronicity of events makes it even more interesting to relate to the teachings that are discovered in the book.
It's an enriching volume of self-discovery and we need an open mind to absorb the messages presented in this book. Wishes Fulfilled is a lesson in self-discovery, self-esteem and the magic of believing in yourself and your strength to make you create your life in the best possible way. Thanks to Dr. Dyer, it's possible to see the world in a new, encouraging and positive way. I am that I am. Believe, and manifest. Believe that with God, all things are possible.
I was not financially compensated for this post. I received the book from Hay House for review purposes. The opinions are completely my own based on my experience.
This book as apsolutely changed my life. I am a Pagan and many of what he was saying I was very ready to embrass and it was easy for me to understand. This is the most potent "magick" that I have ever done. I put his steps into practice every night before going to bed and I am telling you that EVERYTHING that I have wanted manifested in my life has come true 100 percent and those that have not yet, are in the works.
This is an excellent book. I cannot tell you how much this book means to me and how it changed my life. I had the privilege of speaking with Dr. Dyer several times and he was an amazing inspiration.
You were born with potential. You were born with goodness and trust. You were born with ideals an dreams. You were born with greatness. You were born with wings. You are not meant for crawling, so don't. You have wings. Learn to use them and fly. -RUMI
An invitation to break from a life of normality and realize our truest self. Dr. Wayne Dyer shares wisdom and experience in this short volume of under 200 pages. I felt this book was good, but not amazing. Glimpses of possibility are offered, but I was hoping for something a bit more powerful to fulfill the promise of the title Wishes Fulfilled: Mastering the Art of Manifesting.
Favorite Passages: Now I know how perplexing it is to contemplate this idea of no past, no future, and no linear consciousness, especially since the brain (which is the only thing we have to do this contemplating with) is in a body that is linear and did have a beginning and will have an end. It is simply one of the great mysteries, this idea of everything happening at once, yet in my dream state and occasionally in deep meditation I have had a glimpse of this nonlinearity. _______
There's a level of awareness available to you that you are probably unfamiliar with. It extends upward and transcends the ordinary level of consciousness that you're most accustomed to. ________
In many ways you've been programmed to believe that you do not possess the wisdom or ability to manifest the fulfillment of your wishes and desires. I am saying as clearly as I know how to say it in these opening pages: There's a plane of awareness that you can opt to live at, wherein you can, if you are willing to change your concept of yourself as an ordinary being, find yourself fulfilling any and all wishes that you have for yourself. ________
. . . your concept of yourself is everything that you believe to be true about your inner and outer self. Those beliefs have created the life you're now living - at what I can an ordinary level of awareness. To move into the extraordinary space that I'm writing about in this book requires you to change what you believe is true. ________
This is akin to doing a somersault and landing in a new reality - a reality in which all things are possible, a reality where you no longer identify yourself with all of those cultural memes and mind viruses that were programmed into you as a young person, preparing you for an ordinary life. ________
The concept of your higher self will gradually evolve into your highest self, which is truly omniscient, almighty, and capable of producing miracles. Here you will see a new reality - a majestic idea of yourself that previously seemed inconceivable. ________
The reason it may seem blasphemous to say that I am God is because we've adopted the God of the ego, created by humans from ego-based ideas of a God that imitates our most unholy human attributes. ________
The essence is quite simply that I am is the full activity of God, and that each and every one of us can realign ourselves so that our I ams reflect the God that we are, rather than the ego that most of us have become. ________
Never, and I mean never, allow anyone else's ideas of who you can or can't become to sully your dream or pollute your imagination. This is your territory, and a KEEP OUT sign is a great thing to erect at all entrances to your imagination. Generally speaking, the viewpoints of other people regarding how you should occupy your imagination involve their own self-interest. ________
Practice using imagination to define yourself only in ways that are compatible with your highest self, and the universe will supply the happiness, love, and success that you previously imagined eluding you. _________
The more you believe in your own Divine nature, the more it starts to become real to you. _________
No ego, no force, no special privileges; simply an awareness of the power that exists within us when we assume that what we pray for, always aligned with our highest selves, is a completed fact. We are, each and every one of us, a participant in this dance of creation. ________
Synchronistic, unexplainable happenings become more easily accepted, and things that you were taught are impossible and outside the realm of reality show up. ________
When you lose the love, you lose who you are because who you are is love. ________
Summary
Be willing to change your concept of yourself, which means changing what you have believed to be true.
Recognize yourself as always connected to your Source of being.
Become willing to say "I am God" from an egoless perspective.
Treasure your greatest gift - your imagination.
Live as if what you desire is already here.
Assume the feeling of your wish fulfilled.
Never let your attention be directed by anything or anyone other than your highest self.
Use the last moments of your day before sleeping to reinforce in your mind your desires as fulfilled.
A totally different perspective for the manifestation practices we hear over and over again. This is not just another book on manifestation, but an exploration of a new way of being.
Many years ago I tried to read a couple of Wayne Dyer’s books but found them hard to get through. More recently I’ve tried others of his and found them more approachable, and in fact inspiring. Now at last I feel that Wayne’s work is about as good as it can get. He has really worked on himself and developed tremendously through the years – I feel now on the same wave-length as him – not to imply in any way that I’ve reached his stage of development but this is my objective.
This is an amazing book and I aim to emulate Wayne in his daily processes – though he may prove hard to live up to.
Apparently Wayne has immersed himself in the teachings of both Saint Francis and Lao-Tzu in recent years and felt their presence.
He refers us to the book “Dying to be me” by Anita Moorjani, a book he encouraged her to write. It describes Moorjani’s healing journey after a “certain death prognosis”.
In this book Wayne is wonderfully open about his own experiences and synchronicities. He meets significant people owing to these synchronicities and is instrumental in helping people to heal themselves.
Throughout the book Wayne refers to the metaphysician/writer/speaker Neville (Goddard) whose main theme was how to fulfil your wishes by feeling that they had already been fulfilled. Neville is one of my absolute favourites – he was one of the great ones. The main theme of the present book obviously mirrors that of Neville.
We are also referred to Uell S. Andersen and his book “Three Magic Words” and to St. Germain’s channeled “I am discourses”.
Wayne reads widely and continually refers to and quotes from the work of past inspiring teachers/writers.
We are introduced to the concept of our highest self (=God). In fact one of his main theses is that we are God. We are not just a part of God, we are “altogether God” (to quote Uell S. Andersen).
The power of God’s name, “I am” (which I have previously encountered through Harrison Klein) is absolutely a man theme of this book. Wayne reminds us to avoid following the words “I am” with a negative adjective such as “weak, poor, depressed” and so on, as most of us continually do in everyday speech. “By observing and teaching the I am awareness, you will become more aligned with your highest self” – (God).
The book includes photos of Wayne while teaching, etc. and these photos portray many orbs. Orbs contain angels (see the works of Diana Cooper).
We must ensure that we avoid negative thoughts immediately before sleep, as these will programme our subconscious mind negatively for several hours. Instead we should say positive I am-statements just before sleep – I am healthy, I am abundant, I am love, etc.
Wayne was recently given a leukemia diagnosis, but received remote healing from John of God, which healing he describes in the book. I trust he is now fully healed.
In the book’s final chapter we are given a transcript of a “past” (parallel) life regression where Wayne describes his life as a man who had learnt that love solves all of life’s problems, though no-one else in that life understood what “he was on about”. The details of that life of his did not surprise me – he was/is a great man in that life and a great man in this one.
This book is absolutely one of the most inspiring and well-written books I have read for a long time, though I have read many inspiring books. It is definitely the best of Wayne’s that I have encountered. I strongly recommend that you read it.
Wayne Dyer is known for writing and teaching about the spiritual principles of manifesting that which we desire into our lives. Although some of the messages may seem repetitive from other books by Dr. Dyer and other authors of the same genre, Wishes Fulfilled provides an excellent explanation of our spiritual power to create into our lives the good things we imagine.
The biggest lesson I learned from Wishes Fulfilled was the significance of beginning affirmations with the words "I Am". I learned that to think "I am" preceding anything you want and to actually feel the feelings of already being there totally takes away the possibility that it isn't already so.
Beginning statements with "I am" has a spiritual significance, which Dr. Dyer spends an extensive amount of time explaining in this book. He discusses why the common practice of making statements beginning with "I am" that express what we don't want (such as "I am depressed", "I am upset") is so detrimental.
"Use the last moments of your day before sleeping to reinforce in your mind your desires as fulfilled."
For a while I have thought that it makes sense to meditate before going to bed, but hadn't developed this routine. Wayne Dyer explains in this book that we already have the opportunity to live the life we imagine during about a third of our lives, in our dream states while sleeping. He expresses the importance of thinking about what you want before falling asleep.
I have spent way too many nights thinking about what I was dreading about the next day. What a relief to learn that not only do I not have to, it is not advised.
I am currently looking to buy a home, and every night before I go to bed I close my eyes and actually feel like I am in the house that has all the details I am looking for. Not only do I believe it is helping my house search, it is really fun! I suggest giving it a try. I also feel as if everything else I want to have in my life is already here. I don't dread some meeting the next day as I am trying to fall asleep. Instead, I imagine that the next day is filled with all the things I love to do.
I find that this whole business of acting as if is much easier to catch on to when my eyes are closed and everything is quiet, so right before bed is the perfect time to work on my dreams. I also do this first thing in the mornings when I am meditating.
I have read many of Wayne Dyer's books and always enjoy them and learn from them. My only critique of Wishes Fulfilled was that the first three chapters seemed to drag on a bit about concepts that I felt I was already familiar with. This might have been because I have heard Dr. Dyer speak about these topics in the past. I think I was just eager to learn about the manifesting steps presented in the book. Overall, there are nothing but uplifting ideas coming from this book.
I love Wayne Dyer, but I was surprised to find that this book felt really basic to me. Then I remembered: a few years ago, I read the book it was based on. So naturally this book would feel like old news.
In a nutshell, the 5 steps are: 1. Use your imagination to dream up bigger, better wishes for yourself 2. Get clear on the end result you want, and act as if it’s definitely yours, even if you can’t see or touch it yet 3. Feel the feeling of having what you wish. Feel it in your body, the way it will feel when it manifests. 4. Put your attention on feeling how it feels to have what you want, and never let anyone else (or your sense) dictate your attention or contradict what you want to feel 5. Before you go to sleep each night, program your subconscious mind with who you want it to know you are. (Ex. I am God in action) No going to sleep on a low note! If you don’t feel happy and peaceful, get up and meditate until you feel better. You don’t want to spend the next 4-8 hours marinating in anything less than mastery and wishes fulfilled.
One bit of synchronicity from this book: on the day that I had a bunch of corrections to make to a client’s book, I was being super whiny and a big fake martyr about it. I took a quick break, and the next passage in this book was about being your real (God) self. It specifically made the point that, if you want to give something, then give it and let it be a gift. Don’t expect anything in return, not even a “thank you.” Reading this made me realize that, although I was telling myself I was being so generous to make these corrections at no charge after formatting the whole nightmare of a book—also at no charge—that wasn’t really true. I was actually expecting something in return: this client’s gratitude and treating me like a hero for doing this boring little bit of work and not charging extra. That’s not who I want to be! once I saw that, I dropped it and just finished it with a good attitude. Thank you, Wayne Dyer!
One thing I’ve always found unsettling that he talks about here is the idea of commanding Spirit beings, or even more so, the idea of commanding God. It’s always seemed disrespectful to me, and I hate it when people try to boss me around. Commanding me is not a smart strategy for getting what you want. So why think God likes it?
But Wayne Dyer backs it up with this quote from St. Germain: “Say to your Divine Self: ‘See here, God! Come forth and take care of this.’ God wants you to set Him to work. This releases a flood of the God-Energy, Intelligence and Substance which flows forth to do the command.” —p. 158, from The “I AM” Discourses, volume 3
Also St. Germain: “Put all your power back with God, and then when you command—no matter what it is you want—you have hte power instantly on hand to bring forth the fulfillment of your decree.” —p. 158
Internationally renowned author and motivational speaker, Dr. Wayne Dyer, has written more than 30 books on personal-development. His latest offering, “Wishes Fulfilled ~ Mastering The Art Of Manifesting,” is a must read for anyone in search of changing their lives and achieving dreams. Wishes Fulfilled is a powerful and life altering read. Dr. Dyer explores the power of our imaginations. Stressing the fact that everything that exists on this earth, today, was once imagined and everything that will come into existence must first be imagined. In order to achieve our desires, we have to imagine those desires.
In order to tap into our imaginations, we have to believe in our higher selves; that part of us that is beyond our changing physical bodies. We are spiritual beings. We come from a higher source, a source called by many different names, when we tap into that part of the source, which lives within each of us: all things are possible. In order to connect with our highest potential we often need to change our self-concepts. We have to put aside negative offerings of others and self doubt. Negativity sabotages our journeys. When we learn to perceive ourselves as higher beings, we can tap into our highest abilities.
In the pages of “Wishes Fulfilled,” Dyer shares techniques for retraining your subconscious and changing your self-concept. He teaches us to “live from the end,” where we live as if things are already what we want them to be. He teaches us to not simply think about our desires, but to feel them.
Words and thoughts have power. We control what we say and think. Our imaginations belong to us alone. When we take control of these things… we are in control of our lives.
I read this book (or rather listened to the audio version) after having seen Dyer on a PBS show. There is some wisdom in the book, wisdom that derives from some of Dyer's inspirations, like Lao Tzu and Ralph Waldo Emerson. The book is about how we can achieve what we want, as long as what we want "feels natural" to us. It also expresses a spiritual view of the world centered on the Christian precept that "God is Love". And it offers some insight into the ways in which we limit ourselves psychologically and stunt our own development. Some of what Dyer says on this subject is similar to what Martin Seligman has argued in several books. But the book degenerates in parts into a kind of dreamy New Age mysticism. It talks about "orbs" and "surgery" done from afar by faith healers and past life regressions. I can't entirely discount such things, but I am skeptical, and Dyer's seemingly naive belief in them mars the book.
I think of Dyer what I think of Choprah. He is either a clever con-man or, more likely, a muddled thinker who has found some wisdom in the teachings of the great philosophers and mixed it with a good deal of nonsense. Some readers will benefit from reading it, but there are better books on living well, like "A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy" by Irvine.
I was interested in learning more about "Law of Attraction" after watching The Secret. I thought this would be good choice based off the number of reviews on Amazon. But this book failed to deliver what i expected. It doesn't talk much about how the "Law" works. All he says is imagine it and it will happen, and he repeats it for the next hundred pages. The reason i picked this book up was to know how the law works, and it doesn't deliver it. It has a lot of quotes from Bible and Jesus. If you are not a Christian, or an atheist like me, that is a big turn off, as i thought the "Law" was universal and not religiously-inclined. And there is a lot of self promotion. Infact i didn't read past the 7th chapter. Why? There are several pictures where the author talks about magical "Orbs" in photos taken by him and others, and he put the photos in the book. Those "orbs" are the light-reflected particles when you turn on flash in your camera! If you take a picture in dark, and u have your flash on, you have seen specks of dirt reflect the light and show off as blurred white dots in you pics. Everybody who uses a camera has seen this. The author says these "orbs" are beings from the other side guiding us. Waaat?? Yeah, i stopped reading and came in to write this review. If this book has been useful to anyone, good for them, but this book doesn't make sense for me.
WISHES FULFILLED is the best of the best that Dyer has written so far! I have been reading and studying ways of further developing my spirituality and connection to the God within us for about 7 years. I've read and currently follow several spiritual authors/teachers, including previous books that Dyer has written. WISHES FULFILLED is a beautiful, and holy in the genuine sense of the word, incorporation of ideas, quotations, helpful aides in our pursuit of finding our inner God. And in the process, having all of our dreams and intentions come true.
Although Dyer relies heavily on his own mentors and teachers, he presents complex ideas in such easy to understand language. I recommend WISHES FULFILLED to anyone whether they are seeking material fulfillment in this physical world or spiritual enlightenment. It is a book for Everyone!
