I read various reviews and felt I should add a different opinion to the mix. I always read the reviews and am impressed that none so far shares the same feeling I have about Tall, Dark and Fangsome: I HATED it. I've read the previous 4 books, really liked the first, kind of got more of the same in the second, really liked the little spin off on the third, the fourth didn't do it so much for me but this one I had to drag myself to finish reading it.

Sarah Dearly is in theory a vampire good in the heart. Love the idea, but there's a line between nice and stupid. She sure crosses it. Mostly you know the answers before you got to half of the book but even the most intelligent characters can't figure it out. Sarah keeps making decisions that make you want to slap her in the face. The worst is that she knows they're the wrong ones but makes them anyway and keeps saying: it's all my fault. Oh my God! Seriously? Of course it's her fault, apparently when she was turned she lost the ability of thinking. Being confused and not knowing what to do right after your life has been turned upside down makes total sense, but eventually you have to stop acting stupid.

Gideon Chase is the center of this one and though you get the clear impression the author is trying to make you feel some sympathy for the guy it's just not happening. Apparently the fact that he's all handsome should be enough, but it's not. I mean, we already have the hunk of the story. The fact that he's in pain should be enough for everyone reading it think he's forgiven? Come on, there could have been something more solid for us, readers, to re-think our opinion about Mr. Chase, but as it is, there's nothing and the whole problem proposed by the plot simply doesn't exist. The answer is there since the start of the story, but everyone involved refuses to see it. Better yet, Sarah refuses to see it and drags everybody else along with her.

On top of it all, the book ends, everyone accepts the whole trouble she got them with a smile on their faces and still she can't explain why she did what she did. I don't think even a very creative author could have come up with the answer for that.

56 points/100 (3 stars/5)

Sarah Dearly has been cursed to be stereotypical vampire, a scourge on humanity. She is left with few options to break the curse. Now, a famous vampire hunter, Gideon Chase, is blackmailing her to do his bidding. Gideon wants Sarah to turn him into a vampire, because he thinks that will cure him of his injuries. He even made her break up with her boyfriend, Thierry!

Another series ended. I just really wish I could say I liked it. Tall, Dark & Fangsom continues the story started in Stakes & Stilettos. There were no real surprises to this book, everything basically plays out the way you expect it to.

I really grew to detest Sarah over the course of the series. It started out just mild dislike at this bimbo that manages to mess things up for everyone and herself, and then has the audacity to go "But, that shouldn't have happened!" before everything magically fixes itself for her. But by now, she is just pretty awful. She constantly has to get her way and she lies to everyone as long as they let her. She treats her friends like crap. Sarah is also constantly trying to see the best in everyone, which is just annoying. She isn't Dumbledore. It just makes her look dumb(er).

The relationships she has with people are just horrible, too. I feel like a broken record, but it is true. The worst part of the book and series was how she treats everyone around her, and how everyone treats her. Her best friend sounds more like a hostile enemy than a friend. Her boyfriend is with her for some mysterious reason that Sarah claims is easily seen. She treats her best friend like hell, and constantly makes fun of her friend's partner.

None of the people in this series are good role models. There is not a single person I can point to and say with confidence that they're a good person. As a reader who likes characters, this makes for a pretty boring and uninspired read. For a series that relies so much on its characters because the plot is boring and barely there, it is devastating.

At least everything was over pretty quickly. I really didn't quite care if Sarah got her curse lifted or not. She seemed to mostly be managing. I didn't care about the Red Devil, it seemed to be just a way to further the relationship between Sarah and Thierry while actually not managing to add a single thing to it. I just didn't care about pretty much everything.

This was one series reread that did not hold up at all. Glad it is over.

Author Michelle Rowen has sold twelve novels in paranormal romance, futuristic romantic suspense, and young adult fantasy to some of the top publishing houses. She has been on the Waldenbooks romance bestsellers list, is the winner of the 2007 Holt Medallion for Best First Book, and her alter ego Michelle Maddox was nominated for a Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award. Other titles include: Stakes & Stilettos, Angel With Attitude, Bitten & Smitten, Lady & the Vamp, and Fanged & Fabulous. Michelle resides in Southern Ontario, where she is the Vice President of the Toronto Romance Writers.
Sarah Dearly’s vampire life began about a year ago when a blind date went horribly wrong. It’s not all bad, but it’s not all B-positive cocktails either. A curse has made her a nightwalker, the most vicious and almost extinct kind of vampire there is. It forces her to wear a charm that keeps her deadly appetite at bay, but it’s starting to wear off. Her master boyfriend, Thierry, is in a century long marriage that he cannot get out of, and her friends are still trying to hook her up. To top it off, a hunter from hell named Gideon Chase has forced her to break up with her very sexy, very French boyfriend to help him escape a doom of eternal hellfire. Turning up the heat, he threatens to kill the ones she loves if he doesn’t obey his orders. As if that wasn’t bad enough, her growing feelings for Gideon, a bad boy who keeps showing a sensitive side, is clouding her judgment. Will her dark side take over before she can cure herself of the curse in time to stop Gideon? More importantly, can she still have a happily forever after with Thierry?
I don’t get to say this very often, but Michelle Rowen is truly a unique voice in this genre. It is no wonder at all how she has gained such a large following or won as many awards. To take a supernatural element in books like vampires, and put a different spin on it is tough, but she pulls it off. Vampires walking by day, a curse is what makes them evil, etc. Inventive. Add to the mix that this is a clever and humorous spin on a usually serious paranormal romance genre, and you have a lethal combination. Told in first-person point-of-view, you will be laughing until your sides ache by the time you get to chapter two. Witty, distinct, and imaginative- you will be dying to read more of her work, (pun intended).

The series ending, was, in a nutshell, awesome! I loved every word, but I was kind of sad to see it end. I've been so much in-tuned with Sarah Dearly that I was definitely hesitant to say goodbye.
But, nonetheless, this addition is just as exciting and revealing as all of the others. Readers can't help but be drawn into the story, and hopefully like me, you'll be hanging on every word!
Question: Is it just me, or is there always something exciting going on in this series? Seriously, it seems to me that Sarah doesn't ever catch a break...she's always in some kind of predicament or some sticky situation that she has got to get herself out of.
Anyways, I loved this book. I was definitely happy to get it after recently finishing Stakes & Stilettos--what a cliff hanger that book was!
So, if you've been reading this series, I highly suggest NOT stopping where you're at. Rowen is definitely in my Top-10 authors list, and hell, this series is in my Top-5 list!

So sad to have this story end. I fell completely in love with all of Rowen's characters. A great ending nevertheless! Hoping she'll bring the characters back for yet another adventure!

Giving 4 stars to this one because I felt like it would never end. The last few chapters I was struggling to finish. Gideon did this but then Sarah tried this, but Gideon did something else, just get on with it already. Anyhow, good series all together.

I cannot overly state how amazing this book was. I read the entire series for two days. It was UNPUTDOWNABLE! . Once i finished the first book, i am itching for the second until before i knew it, i was up till 5 in the morning. THANK GOODNESS IT'S SUMMER or I'll be sleeping in my desk if this was a school day.

Ok, i should warn you that my opinion is been extremely affected by my personality. well, duh. I am a hopeless romantic. Totally, extremely, utterly hopeless. I love a great romance. I adore and worship a great romance.

as to not be confuse or anything:
Great romance= fidelity, trust, loyatly, chemistry, acceptance, happiness, passion, understanding, nd fierce love

all of this are present in the entire series and with a some mystery, action, drama, friendship, cool vampire creatures...How can i refuse???

Not to mention the amazing characters!!! Our heroine is perfect. She is hilarious, sarcastic, and has a HUGE heart. She makes mistake, but that makes her realistic. And PERFECT for our heroine.

description

And our hero is HOT HOT HOT! Mysterious, sexy, with a great nay! perfect poker face....and hopelessly in love with our heroine!

description

Being a 6? hundred year old vamp, he has done some terrible things and thinks he's not worth our heroine, at the start he tries to push her away but one thing our heroin has is courage and an unyielding determination. To bad for him. Great for us!!!

I love the whole series. I lvoe it to death!

description

Together they tried to work things out. They have some problems on the way...hence the other 4 books that followed, but the more difficult the problems were, the deeper they fell for each other.

SO yeah! Lol, TOTALLY RECOMMENDED! I hope this series NEVER ENDS!

Mon avis en Français

My English review

Sarah Dearly is back for her fifth and final adventure in Tall, Dark & Fangsome. Still battling with the nightwalker curse that was bestowed upon her in Stakes & Stilettos, Sarah is playing "servant" to one of her worst enemies, Gideon Chase. Gideon is a vampire hunter, but for the last several years he has been under the torture of hellfire. He thinks Sarah is his solution and that if she turns him into a vampire, he will conquer said hellfire and be immortal and whole again. In order to get Sarah to follow through with his plan, Gideon is now blackmailing her, threatening to kill Thierry, her loving boyfriend which means saying goodbye to him. It's a good thing the Red Devil from the previous novel is still hanging around town. It seems like he may come in handy once again... especially when Sarah realizes she may have figured out his secret identity.

Once again, I found myself fully absorbed into the words of Michelle Rowen. Her Immortality Bites series has been so much fun to follow from start to finish and I'm sad to see that it has come to an end. The storyline of this particular novel had plot twists that left me guessing about what was to come next and who was up to no good, and I truly enjoyed the suspense. Since this is the final book in the series, I had to think back and wonder about whether the book had wrapped up everything I wanted to know about nicely in the end, and the answer was, yes. I'm disappointed that there won't be more to come, as I'd like to see where all of the remaining characters go from here, but I like how Rowen tied up all of the loose ends in the final chapters of the series. I give her major kudos for that as I hate being left to guess at what might happen in the future for the characters! Now that this series has ended I will be awaiting Rowen's new series to see what she has in store for us with a whole new cast of characters. Highly Recommended!

The first time I got to read Michelle’s first book for this series, I was completely and utterly smitten with the way she wrote, her characters and overall everything! I cannot fully explain in depth how in love I am with this series! This is the last book in the immortality bites series, which I was very sad indeed to see it end. This book starts off where it ended in book 4, with Thierry and Sarah broken up, G. Chase still seeking Sarah to sire him, among other things like Sarah’s nightwalker curse. My favorite part of the series overall is just the voice she gives Sarah. You could see her transform from this girl who is just materialistic to one who completely and helplessly tries to see the good in people rather than the bad. Sarah’s character is strong, beautiful and an abs romantic. Her relationship with her friends, family and even Thierry is just what makes her have those qualities about her. Amy, her best friend, is just like someone I knew back in high school. The way she writes the dialogue for every single character is just so different. I can clearly hear each and every characters voice through those words! Thierry, oh Mr. Hot Sexy Fangsome love interest. He’s everything a girl could wish for, strong, secretive and extremely good looking and protective. Their relationship is just pure awesome! I started reading this like Richelle Mead’s Georgina Kincaid’s character from her Succubus series, at five pages a day but I just had to know what was going to happen to everyone! I’m sad to see the series go, but the way Michelle ended it was filled with closure and left me very satisfied. With that being said, I give this book 4.5 out of 5 paws.

I received Tall, Dark & Fangsome almost a year ago. Since this is the 5th book in Michelle Rowen's Immortality Bites series, I wanted to read the first four books before I started to read this one. Yeah, that didn't happen. Even though I didn't read the first four books, I wasn't lost as I read this book. I really liked that Michelle Rowen gives you "The Basics," telling you everything that happened before, and as you keep reading, you get a glimpse of what happened before.

I really enjoyed reading Sarah Dearly's final story. Sarah is a vampire who was cursed by a witch to become a nightwalker. She wears a necklace to help her not go crazy and drink anyone's blood, vampire or human. She is getting blackmailed by Gideon, the head of the vampire hunters. He wants her to turn him into a vampire because he's been touched by hellfire from killing a vampire. She had to break up with her master vampire Thierry or get all her loved ones killed.

Sarah is very sarcastic which I love! Sarah is such a great character, she knows what she wants (most of the time) and is willing to do whatever she can to get it. She needs to figure out a way to be able to get rid of her curse and deal with Gideon so she could go back with Thierry and finally be happy.

I will definitely be getting her previous books to get more details on her story, even though I know what happened.

Tall, Dark & Fangsome, the final installment in the Immortality Bites series featuring Sarah Dearly, is another slam-dunk effort for Michelle Rowen. TD & F picks up immediately after the cliff-hanger ending in Stakes & Stilettos. Sarah, still left dealing with her nightwalker problem, must find a way to outsmart her blackmailer and hide her forbidden relationship with Thierry.

Throughout the story, the characters remain true to their established personalities. Part of the charm of this series has been the perfect love and devotion that develops between Sarah and Thierry. It’s wonderful to read a story where you know the characters are truly in love, if only the evil minions of the world would leave them alone! Old favorite characters from early in the series return, and readers are presented with a new creeptastic character to add mayhem in Sarah’s life.

This final book, as with the entire series, continues to display a blend of sassy chick-lit fun and paranormal adventure. It is light fun, but there are twists and unexpected turns to keep readers on their toes. If you have enjoyed the series so far, the ending should not disappoint. I’m very satisfied with the final result.

Recommended for fans of MaryJanice Davidson’s Undead series and Katie MacAlister’s style.

First off I would like to mention that I have not read the other books in the series, so I was coming to this book with no previous knowledge of the characters. That said, I absolutely loved the book, and plan to get the earlier books in the series to see how they ended up where they did in the beginning of this book.

The story is witty and engaging and all the characters are wonderful, especially Sarah and Thierry. I even have a soft spot for grumpy Barry! It did not take long for me to feel like I knew the characters, and I always left the book wishing I could read just a little bit more. At one point, I was reading in class instead of listening to my science teacher! I really liked how it ended, and that this book is the final for the series. While it will be sad not to see any more of these characters (after I finish the books I haven't read yet), I am grateful that Michelle Rowan did finish it, as many authors tend to drag series out, causing you to, in the end, be fed up with that series.

I will definetly be reading the first 5 books in the series, and fully intend to continue reading books by Michelle Rowan. I definetly think this book is a must read for all vampire romance fans.

Tall, Dark & Fangsome is something else; in a good way of course! Set in Toronto, Ontario this story has the appearance of a contemporary romance novel…until you start reading. I haven’t read books 1-4, but this final volume in the Immortality Bites series, is a winner in my books! There are so many colourful, well-developed characters in this story that it was hard to choose a favourite. With a fast-paced, action-filled plot the reader is going to have a really hard time putting the book down. There is a wealth of romance in this story even though there isn’t any graphic sexual content; there are some super-HOT, romantic moments that...

Well this book was awesome, I love Michelle rowen books I have to read her other series from this book. I love sarah she so beautiful and at the same time dangerous bc of her nightwalker. Theirry is hot and so sweet to Sarah because he loves her and at the same time he still have a wife. But he want to be w Sarah. Gedon was in this book the bad guy, but Sarah see that he has a good side. I love how Michelle made this story w the vampire and hunter hating watch other, Sarah has a heart for Gedon who want to be a vampire and get rid of his hellfire curse he got, and he was the leader of the vampire hunter group and killed vampire and he don't feel guilt doing it. Sarah see that he can change when she change him in to vampire, see the light I should say. This book was awesome book it had great humor in it and at the same time there action and draw u in to each page. I was so glad I read this book bc I'm hooked now and I already got rest of her books. Can't wait to read the other ones.

Tall, Dark & Fangsome made my all night page turner list. I’d been trying to savor the book, only reading a few chapters a night to make it last. But last night when I was in the middle of the book I just couldn’t put it down; and did an 8 hour marathon read to finish it. Poor Sarah blocked, or should I say staked, at every turn to try and rid herself of her nightwalker curse by Gideon Chase. The desperate, manipulative, and now dieing vampire hunter is hell bent on having Sarah sire him. In the end he gets what he wants, and more to his dismay. But alls well with the world of Sarah and Thierry for as with all romance novels they get their HEA. A very good series even if it is romance without sex scenes.

A fitting ending to a hilarious series! In "Tall, dark & fangsome" we accompany vampire Sarah Dearly as she tackles her non-stop and ever increasing problems. There are moments that are sad, moments when you just want to cry... Then there are moments when you laugh uncontrollably at a bus stop full of people... TRUST me, I know from experience. The weird looks they give just make you want to hide in hole somewhere...

Anyway, back on topic :)
Basically this a quick and easy book to read that's entertaining and not completely dead serious all the time, pun not intended, well maybe it is... :D
Heheehehe

Anyway, enough said: just read the series!!!!

Michelle Rowen saved the best for last in her "Immortality Bites" series. This was a riveting story and made it hard to put the book down. Sarah is still cursed to be a "Nightwalker" and is being blackmailed into turning Gideon Chase into a vampire despite the fact that his family have been the leaders of the hunters for generations. With the witch who cursed her deader than dead, Sarah is running out of options for getting rid of this curse that gives her an uncontrollable bloodlust, a serious allergy to the sun and a dark side that loves to come out and play. Great finish to this series.

There are three mystery novels that follow this series and they are a lot of fun. I actually read them first so going back to read the first 5 novels was me doing a bit of housekeeping. If you liked this series I highly recommend them.

When you were so sure about how it would end only to find out that you were entirely wrong, that was so damn satisfying. Hence, praise the author for making an excellent conclusion!

As per the author, this is the final book, but three more books are available in this series? If it's a spin-off, I'm not sure why the librarians still included it in the series, duplicating it to 'Immortality Bites Mystery Series'. As usual, I refused to read the synopsis, so I have no idea. I hope Barkley would be there as he's the only one that's without a proper closure.

So I've literally had this book sitting on my bokkshelf for years and I don't know why I never got to it. It was a rally good, upbest story, and although you can definitely tell it's book #5, I never felt lost anywhere. It does have all the spoilers from the last 4 books (at least, I think) so I'm kinda bummed I don't need to go back and read the first four books. I have nothing to complain about for this one.

Very clichè and predictable
Until it came to the part in the cemetery with the demon— did not see that coming
But the rest is still very clichè
I honestly wanted to hit Sarah for how ignorant she was
