Welcome to Haggerty, Georgia, where resident FBI agent Mark Iverson protects the colorful individuals in the area. A young woman is found dead-with few clues, except for one suspect who is already on death row. Another young woman disappears under mysterious circumstances. On the surface, the two cases seem miles apart. But a last-minute confession from an unexpected source sends Mark on a complex and dangerous mission to learn the truth. With unexpected twists and whiplash turns, Besty Brannon Green weaves another stunning novel filled with intriguing characters and page-clutching suspense.
If you're not familiar with my books, I write mystery-suspense novels. I am LDS (Mormon) and so are some of my characters, but I have loyal readers from many different faiths. My goal is to engage the reader in my books. I want to make them laugh and cry and worry and dread the end.
Most of my books are set in the fictional town of Haggerty, Georgia - which is loosely based on my grandparents' hometown of Headland, Alabama (the most wonderful place on earth). Each book has an ample supply of romance, suspense, Southern hospitality and even recipies!"
This author is LDS and writes a cute character sketch/mystery about these wonderful friends in Haggerty. I have learned to know them as my friends! Very light, inspirational type stories and I just read to enjoy and be entertained and uplifted!
Kate bugs me. I have a hard time reading about her character because she just complains all the time and is too sensitive. But Miss Eugenia is a pretty awesome southern lady and is so likable. I usually like the mystery of the Haggerty books but this one left me a little wanting. A missing woman, a man on death row for being a serial killer saying one woman he never killed, a husband looking for his missing wife. It had all the makings of a really great story. It loses its edge with all the extra stuff going on and with the ending. I was a little disappointed although it was not an outcome I predicted. I should have know though. It seems like every time the local law enforcement has a new girlfriend, she’s the one who did it.

I started this off as an audiobook since I was going to a training with my mom and I needed a clean book. So I chose a mystery because my mom and I both like mysteries.
The humor in this book was pretty funny. It still has its cheesy moments but it wasn’t unbearable. If you aren’t LDS you might get confused with some of the word choice or you might not like it.
I liked the mystery, I didn’t guess a lot of it and I was entertained.
Borrowed this. It's ok--listened to cd rather than reading. Sort of like other LDS authors--not a complex sentence, not a complex thought. Sort of better than actually reading it. Plot goes off in too many directions and is not really about the "main character" but the old biddy next door. But it is fine to listen to while self-isolating in the car in a scenic park.
3.5 stars. I rounded up because I'm not sure if my feelings about the book were from the story or the narrator. She isn't my favorite. There were some things I figured out before the ending of the book, and some that I didn't. It was a fun story.
This book had an imaginative story line and besides, I always enjoy a good Southern style mystery! This is the second Haggerty mystery I've read and I will definitely look up another.
This was a fun, easy mystery. I enjoyed the charachters and got the feeling that Euginia may be featured in other stories by this author. I didn't realize that this was #5 of the Haggerty Mysteries when I started the book. Thinking this was a stand alone book, I had a hard time in the beginning knowing who the main character was and the relationship of the characters to each other.
I enjoed the busy body Euginia being involved in everybody's business and knowing everything about everyone, I got the small town feel from her. I also appreciated that this was a fairly complex story in terms of the myster itself with missing women and a serial killer on death row, even though the characters and back story was light and kind of fun.
This is the second book to Hearts in Hiding it goes on with KAte and Marks life they get remarried and they now have two kids Emily and Charles. This one is about a murder and five women are dead Lyle Tweedy is the serial killer but he didnt kill one person and that is were mystery comes in MArk tries to solve wchich he does eventually but KAtes sister kelsey comes down because she is having trouble with her marriage and she doesnt now she is preganant but she soon figures that out. This book was awesome i love this one too.
The book starts out strong and stays great throughout--until the ending. When it's revealed that "Ciera" is an anagram for Erica, well, that makes sense only if you read the name. If I had just heard the name, I would have thought it was spelled "Sierra." Kind of makes the reveal flop. There were no real clues that the killer was who it turned out to be. I don't want things too predictable, but I do want there to be some hint to look back on.
As in the other books in the series, the characters are well-drawn and the dialogue and action feel true-to-life.

FBI agent Mark Iverson is called to talk with a condemned serial killer. The man tells agent Iverson he is guilty of many murders but one of women on the list was not his work. Mark is haunted by this experience and works to discover the truth behind the murder. Meanwhile a stranger arrives in Haggerty, Georgia looking for his missing wife. The Iversons and their colorful friends work to solve the two cases.
Although this was once again a thrill to read, I must say, I was a little disappointed. The first four books of this series introduced a new couple every book, but this one focused on one we already knew. Don't get me wrong, I love Kate and Mark, but what really made me love the others was getting to know the new characters and new romances while still hearing about previous characters every once and a while. I sort of thought of their story as in the background.
Not one of Green's best novels. It takes place in Haggerty, which is where a lot of her novels take place. I really enjoy reading more about the characters so this is something that I like. I thought that this one jumped around a little too much and had a few too many mini-stories within the story going on.
The way the author keeps you on your toes until the last moment is truly incredible. Not only does she give you suspects that you are sure are the asnwer to the murder case, but she also skillfully puts her characters on the line for anything, whether it is marriage proposals or death sentences. Amazing.
FBI Mark is also Bishop. Called to Prision just before Lyle Tweeny is executed - says he killed more women than accused but did not kill Erica Helms - wo husband and children had been killed by a drunk driver. FBI doesn't support the invesigation - sister-in-law come nekghbor Miss Evergreen - brings part of story missing Molly Vance - really the murdered girl
This plot starts out as a promising story, but has a slightly disappointing ending. Still better than most LDS romance/suspense fiction, but doesn't live up to the promise of the first entry in the Haggerty series, Hearts in Hiding. Mark and Kate are turning into boring people who are overprotective (referring to Mark) or don't get to do anything interesting (Kate).
This book was good, but it took me a while to get through it. The first half of the book moved really slow, but it was written in 2005, and I'm reading it in 2024 when attention spans are much shorter. There's 3 different main plots but at the end they come together. I have not ready any other books in this series and did not feel like I was missing any content.
Copycat is an intense ride through Haggerty, a small southern town full of lovable and eccentric characters. Romance is only a short step away and mystery seeps through every page. This is a page turner, one you'll stay up all night to read.
This was niice light reading. A clean murder suspense book. A little slow, but a good book when you can't give it all of your attention. Next time I fly and need to keep one eye on my kids and one on my book I will get one of her novels.
This was a pretty good book. A little hard to get into, but once the story really gets going it turns into a page turner. It has a pretty good twist ending that is almost easy to figure out, but not so easy as to make it overly predictable. Overall, and enjoyable read.
Not my favorite of the series but still a clean fun mystery. I especially like the recipies, reading about all that food made me hungry. I already tried Eugenia's potato soup and it was a hit with the fam.
I guess I'm just not a big fan of the murder mysteries--the prequal to this felt more like a romance, and I was hoping for more of the same. Still enjoyable, and I still liked the zany neighbor, Eugenia.
