From USA Today Bestselling Author, Aileen Erin, comes an all new action-packed, romance-filled, paranormal series.

There are three things I know without question. One, demons are real. Two humans make awful mistakes that get them in demonic trouble more often than you’d think. And three, I’m the only one who can help them.

I straddle the line between the mortal and spiritual realms every day. People might think they’re two different places, but they’re not. They lay on top of each other. It’s messy, and that’s why so many people need my help.

Since I was little, I’ve been called all kinds of names—unusual, abnormal, even insane. Which is fitting since they keep throwing me in to mental facilities. I’ve been in and out of them my entire life.

But no matter what people say, no matter what I’m risking, I will always help those in need.

Because there’s an endless war carrying on all around us, every minute of every day. One that can’t be seen by mortal eyes. But I can see it, the spiritual battle for mortal souls, and I’m working hard to make sure my father is on the losing side.

My father—Astaroth, Satan’s general—is why I can do this. He’s why I’m not normal. I hear him, whispering my name at night, his taunts echoing through the spiritual realm. He’s hunting me, and I know the day will come when I must face him again.

Every portal I open could be the one that finally pulls me back to Hell, and I wonder if I will brave enough, strong enough, good enough to fight him.

My name is Samantha Catherine Lopez, and I am Nephilim. This is my story.

**Fans of the Alpha Girls series will love this new series set in the same world, with a few familiar faces. ;) BUT you DO NOT have to have read a single word of the Alpha Girls series to enjoy Samantha's story.

Thank you NetGalley and Ink Monster, LLC for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Below review won't contain big spoilers, but I will reference some things from the book to explain where my opinion comes from.

Not all YA feels young, but this one definitely does.

This story follows Samantha, who is the daughter of a human mother & a fallen angel/demon father. Because of this, she is able to see through different realms and can see & react with the spiritual world. She's destined to be this important, extraordinary person (and likely save the world at one point) who is set on protecting innocent humans from demons infestations and evil spirits - via exorcisms and creating portals to Hell. She's also on the run from her father who is dead-set on bringing her (back) to Hell forever. Her best friends are some werewolves, witches, a priest, an archon, and her demon-dead friend.

This description, the world and set-up for the story sounded great, so I was excited to delve in. It did, however, not really deliver for me. My main gripe was the storytelling feeling so, so young. It was quite clunky, a lot of tell (mainly internal monologue) and very little show. The conversations had very much "teenager" vibe to it and often went on for much too long with a lot of repetition. This would've made sense for the first part in which she was still 17 years old. However, this did not change after the 6-year time-jump. She's said to have aged so much compared to her peers from having been to Hell, but this was not evident from anything whatsoever.

Some other points that stood out to me:
● While it is a spin-off, I've read multiple times that you do not need to have read the main series. I would disagree, if only for the fact that there is a lot of name-dropping through the book of characters that were very obviously part of that previous series. It wasn't that it confused me as much as it felt like you're in a conversation with people who are talking about something that you were not a part of so you're just sitting there, awkwardly.
● We hear many times how awful and terrifying Hell and her father are, but we're never actually really shown how bad it really is, I never felt that there were actual high stakes involved even when everything went to hell (pun intended). Having more emotional investment would've really helped with these moments.
● The romance was ... not really existing for me. The eventual love interest and her experience some kind of insta-love moment which I did not connect with at all. Since the events were spread out of over 2 days in total, as a reader it did not make sense for some real attraction to blossom. I'm not against insta-love or insta-lust, but this was extremely cringy for me.

Not all YA has to feel really young, and I'm actually surprised this one did, since for most of the story the characters were between 23 and 28 years old. Perhaps if I had read this when I was much younger myself, I would've liked it more. I won't be continuing the series myself for that reason, but I can see how this has potential for a younger audience (I just didn't see it being marketed that way).

First of a new Series spun off within a greater existing world. You can read without prior knowledge, but with mentions of past events and appearances from characters from the previous books, I would be surprised if you don't want to learn more and decide to dive in to the Alpha Girls while waiting for book two of this series. I know I'm ready for a re-read of the whole world now that I've been reminded how awesome they all are.

While Aileen's Alpha Girl's world (that this is spun off of) was full of werewolves, witches and fae with antagonists in all categories as well as Vampires and Demons, this one focuses on the battle against demonic activity. All the other paranormals exist and we see several of them as part of the story, but they are definitely supporting the character growth, not part of the action (yet?). So while it's the same world it is a very different focus within that world.

Because of the demonic focus, we have to delve a little into the source of the conflict and their natural combatants. This has been set up as more of a Spiritual war constantly happening between Angels and Demons with the humans (and other supernaturals) in the middle. And while there is a spiritual focus to the battle (we have a priest as a side character, there are prayers for help and Angels/Archons in the mix) I didn't find the story to be preachy or heavy handed at all. It's just a layer of the world that Sam has to work in and it blends with the supernatural world in a slightly different way. I feel like we will probably learn more depth into the history over time in this saga as we build to a big final conflict.

This specific story is a like a primer for Samantha's journey. We get some intro to her, we get a sense of the problems she faces on a day to day basis (at the most extreme end of her spectrum for sure) and a hint of what she will have to face moving forward through the over arching story to come. As with other Alpha Girl world books, when the stuff hits the fan, things happen quickly and the bulk of the story happens within about 2-3 days.

While not specifically a romance, this book has some romance elements (I'm expecting more to develop in the rest of the series so it builds over time). The main focus in this one is on the fact that Sam doesn't have anyone and that while she sees and works with so many fated/true mates, she doesn't feel like she will ever find someone who can manage her life and calling. This is definitely a thread that runs through because with an epic level found family like Sam has in the Alpha Girl crew (all fated mates whose stories are available to read when you're ready to gobble them down) they all want her to be happy and not lonely. We get some personal embarrassment from Sam over her past crushing on Phoenix, we get some conversations, hints of strength of character from Phoenix that lets us know he might be able to handle all that Sam has to live with. There some simmering interest, some hand holding and my favourite the "I'm not leaving" moments.

This will be a continuing saga of a story, so while not officially a cliffhanger, there are a LOT of loose threads dangling after the climax of this specific set of moments. I am very much looking forward to finding out what happens next in the saga and how Samantha deals with the fallout from the climactic events of this one.

There are moments of humour, some world building, action and lot of tension this story. And while it's not the full rollercoaster, it is a taste of what is to come. This ride has just begun and I'm really excited to see where Aileen takes us.

I requested and was provided an advanced copy of the ebook. These are my honest opinions.

Invocation kicks off an intense yet exciting delve into the spiritual realm with a quirky badass female lead and an addicting thread of romance spun around the chaos. Days of Iron and Clay is a spin-off from the Alpha Girl series that follows Samantha and the terrifying challenges she faces from the spiritual realm including the dark obsession of her father in Hell. It was pretty cool if wild witnessing Samantha at work cleansing souls, vanquishing demons, opening/closing portals to Hell, etc. but there was also enough humor and the lightness of romance to keep the horrors of Hell and that plot line from becoming too much. Familiar werewolves and fae (familiar if you've read the Alpha Girl series) make a return which is fun to see and I can't wait to see how Samantha and Phoenix's relationship develops. If I had to try and describe this book in a sentence, I might say it's a bit like The Exorcist but with other supernaturals backing up the action and a romance with a hot neighbor thrown in.

You don't have to have read the Alpha Girl series to be able to pick up this one, but (as someone who has only read the first book in that series *hides face in shame*) I will say it probably helps. There were times when I struggled to grasp the importance of characters or their relationships to Samantha because I was not up to speed via the other series. So, it's totally not necessary, but it will probably amp up the enjoyment of this series further if you do.

The cover is pretty epic and the idea had me hooked and I look forward to reading what happens next in Sam's story. Hopefully not Armageddon, but...👀

Thank you to the publisher and author for sending me an eARC to read and review!

I don’t even know how to write a review for this book. I want more!! Having read all of Aileen Erin’s Alpha Girl series, I was super excited about this ARC. It did NOT disappoint. This was incredible.

I loved that we got to see other characters from her Alpha Girl series, and I loved the new characters, too!

Phoenix is awesome, and so is Frank. The amount of times this book had me laughing at the dialogue… It was amazing.

There was a perfect mix of romance, action, and banter. I loved it so much and I can’t wait to read book 2!

I highlighted so many quotes… but I’ll just share one.

“Chilled was good. Chilled meant I was safe. There was nothing cold in Hell.”

Also ELI! I love him too.

The whole group is incredible. I love that they’re basically a family.

I’d say more but I really don’t want to spoil anything other than go read this ASAP.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

When I first started this book, I was afraid it was going to be a YA/NA because Sam was 17, and I sometimes struggle with main characters who are younger. However, when the next part started, we moved ahead in time 6 years, and I was no longer concerned about Sam’s age. This is a riveting book that crosses the line sometimes from urban fantasy to horror and back again, but that’s in a good way. It’s a little eerie, a little romantic, and all fun. I haven’t read the author’s Alpha Girl series, but I had no problems keeping up at all. I confess I wasn’t really happy at the end because of the switch in POV at a crucial time (no spoilers), but I am ready to read the next one since I enjoyed this one so much. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

This is a spin-off of the Alpha Girl series, set in the same universe but can be read without having read that series first. Although the story does make reference to the characters of that series. I haven't read the Alpha Girl series, and I didn't feel lost or unsure about what was going on.

Sam is compelled to do good things that somehow get her into a world of trouble. The only problem is that her father is a fallen angel who lives in Hell, and he will stop at nothing to drag her there too. Sam has a bunch of interesting supernatural and human friends who want to help her as she has helped them, but throughout the story, it is clear that Sam struggles to believe she is truly good and worthy

The story was engaging, and I was totally invested. I liked Sam's character as she struggles with who she is and what she has to do. She is 17 as the story starts out, and I think the author pitched her voice and actions right for those complex teenage/early adulthood years. There is a reference to her feeling older than her years due to her experiences, but she still has that impulsive and unsure side to her, which felt believable.

The pacing is good, and the book has moments of real tension. I also really liked the writing style. It is a mix of romance, supernatural, horror, and fantasy, and I really enjoyed it. The other characters are a lot of fun and I liked the banter between them. I'll look out for the next book in the series as I'm keen to know what comes next!

With thanks to the author, Love Books Tours and Ink Monster Books, for providing a copy of the book. This is my honest opinion, which I'm leaving voluntarily.

I kind of really liked the cover and the story description sounded interesting as well, so I was really looking forward to reading this book. Invocation is the first part in a new series, and a spin-off of another series by the author. I hadn’t read any other books by this author, and while I did manage to follow the story without major problems, I do think having read the other books set in this world would have made reading this book a bit easier, because of the numerous references to stuff that already happened in the original series.
Invocation follows Samantha, daughter of a mortal mother and demonic father, as she helps people who get into demonic trouble – and with her father constantly trying to lock her up in hell, this is no easy task.

The short description promised an action-packed, romance-filled, paranormal series and I do have to say I was disappointed with how the story progressed. I did like the beginning of the book, and it made me wonder what would happen next. The story is written from Sam’s POV, and I really liked her inner monologue at first and the dialogues felt alive and authentic. As the story progressed there were more and more things that made it hard for me to finish the book though.
One of those things was the constant talk of Sam’s love life and how getting her a boyfriend seemed the only thing anyone around her was really interested in – even her much older friend who is also a priest, made it his mission to find a romantic match for her. At some point it seemed to be all everyone talked about, so much so that all the promised action made up only a small part of the actual story. And even then, the execution of the action scenes, aka the scenes where something was actually happening, was the opposite of satisfying. The whole book is also told over three days in total, without a lot actually happening, so it felt like a little bit of action mixed with a lot of, often repetitive, filler. In my opinion there just wasn’t enough happening to warrant the number of pages this book has.
What is more, there is a heavy focus on religion, and I can imagine that this might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Another thing that negatively influenced the reading experience immensely was the amount of typos in the copy that I read.

I did like the character of Gabriel, Gabe, though and would have liked knowing more about him and his backstory and how he ended up where he did in the end. He was by far the most interesting character (if only he wouldn’t have had to add “babe” to every second sentence he said).

Thank you to Netgalley for providing this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Invocation by Aileen Erin.

I am first of all very thankful to Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this e-arc before the release.
I absolutely loved this book. I found it a bit harder to get into, since I later found out that it is a spin-off of Aileen's first series Alpha Girls. However, I do think you can read the book without having read the prior books, it is just a bit more adjusting, since you don't have any prior knowledge on the world building.
Further the story is so different from anything I have read before and it is so intriguing because of that. The spiritual battle between good and evil, Satan and God, and the love story that is going on in the meantime.

I will start of with a small summary. The story is about Samantha, in short Sam, who is the daughter of Astaroth, a fallen angel/demon and a human, Ana. Because of this she has the ability to see through the different realms, and into the spiritual world. This ability has not always been such a good thing to have, since it caused her to be thrown into different mental facilities, and be seen as weird, abnormal and insane.
Throughout the story you see how she grows, and deals with her ability, while trying to stay on the good path and help others.

The book is also very spiritual and often refers to prayer and God. So be prepared for that.

Overall I really enjoyed the book and loved the characters, my favourite would definitely be Phoenix, Gabe, Eli and Frank. But they all were so great and fun to get to know. I will definitely be on the look out for book 2 next winter, to see how the story continuous.

This is an action-packed fun YA paranormal romance. I really loved how the spiritual realm, demons and portals are just everyday life for the FMC. There’s a dramatic incident at the start of the book so we start off with action, which I loved, but then there’s a big time jump. I really invested but then this threw me. I’m glad certain characters came back into the plot, although this was all a bit convenient. The romance was a slow-burn and I really enjoyed the MMC point of view at the end to get to see how he was feeling. Overall a fun quick YA read that I would compare vibes to vampire diaries (slightly cheesy with plenty of YA drama). Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an E-ARC. This is a voluntary review of my own thoughts.

*Thoughts*

Aileen Erin's Invocation is the first installment in the author's Days of Iron and Clay series. Even though it is said that you do not have to have read the Alpha Girls series, it would be nice to understand the world this story takes place. Especially since a bunch of characters from the Alpha Girls series play pivotal parts in this story. The world recently woke up to the news that supernaturals like werewolves, witches, vampires, and other supernaturals are real.

My rating:⭐️✨

Spice level: 0 🌶️

Read if you like:
▫️angels, demons, and werewolves
▫️urban fantasy
▫️found family
▫️strong heroine

This story starts when Sam is seventeen and then is supposed to jump to her being twenty-three, but the whole book felt like reading about a teenager, and not in a good way.

I also struggled with it because it was all telling and no showing. I lost count of how many times she said Hell was so awful. But what about it was awful? Give me details and descriptions. Paint the picture. Give me scenes there. Tell me about the year you were trapped there and what happened to you. I need more world-building.

It also felt overly religious, which was a bit off-putting at times. I wasn’t expecting it, and don’t want that in my fantasy novels.

Everyone was weirdly focused on Sam getting a boyfriend and it distracted from the plot. And when the romance did show up, it was cringey and unbelievable. Sam spends five minutes with Phoenix once when she’s seventeen, and then when she sees him again years later, they fall deeply in love immediately. They barely talk or spend any time together. She had more chemistry and on page time with Eli and Gabe than with Phoenix.

I barely finished it and I won’t be continuing this series.

Thank you to Ink Monster Books, Love Book Tours, and Aileen Erin for the ARC. I received an advanced copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thanks Net Galley for the ARC!

Invocation is a fast-paced, gritty paranormal romance. It has the depth of lore seen in similar themed stories such as Constantine (movie starring Keanu Reeves), and it has the witty banter that's seen in The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.

I haven't read any of the Alpha Girls books, and Erin has done a marvellous job of making sure readers are up to date with what we need to know to fully appreciate what's going on.
Sam is a smart, sarcastic, and strong character that can't seem to catch a break! I loved the dynamics between Sam and her supernatural pals. Especially Eli. He reminds me of the way angels are portrayed in the Supernatural TV series (we love a sassy and bored-esque man with the ability to glow brighter than the sun).

As someone who usually steers clear of romance, I'd happily continue reading what Sam battles next.

Thank you to Book Sirens for supplying me with this ARC! As always it has no impact on my review.

⚠️ Let me be so very clear as well that while this book wasn’t for me, this is absolutely no hate to the author. Publishing a book is such an accomplishment and nothing will diminish that⚠️

That being said. Let’s get into this shit.

I really want to start positive. The premise for this book was really cool. It grabbed me from the very start and was super excited to see where it went. The problem is where it went.

I feel the need to mention the weird obsession this book had with food. As someone with a history of ED, this felt VERY ED coded. The issue I had wasn’t the time Sam passed out because she forgot to eat, but literally everything that followed. Why was there an entire conversation about how fast food is “poison” but then later in the book she’s eating peanut M&Ms? Why are we demonizing food first of all, and second of all if “bad food” is “bad” why are we eating it?? I could entirely understand the fast food convo if Sam had the personality trait of being super health conscious and a health nut/ vegan/ vegetarian etc, but this felt so so random. Partnered with the fact there is not one but TWO chapters where a room full of people are chastising her and yelling at her to eat. I’m not fucking kidding. In the second chapter it is THE MAJORITY OF THAT CHAPTER. It’s literally maybe 10 characters in a room all telling her to eat more, and ignore her hunger signals. It’s so strange for a book meant to be about a girl fighting demons.

Then there’s Pheniox.
What a fucking character. If you’ve ever read Sarah J Maas’s series named Crescent City, there is a character named Ithan and his only personality trait is sports ball, and tortured sibling trauma.
Did yall know pheniox played soccer? He played pro soccer. Did you know? He went pro. PLEASE SHUT UPPPPPPPP. I can’t stand when a character has literally no other background other than sports. That says nothing about them it was just something they did, give this man the personality he deserves because he’s quips and inner monologue was cute! He deserves better!
Speaking of this man. Here’s another one of my main issues with this book. Age. Is this YA? Yes. Do I understand YA books generally contain young characters? Absolutely. However, the problem I have is when there are yucky issues with the age gap of a couple or characters that could literally be solved by making them not under 18. Same having a crush is totally fine, not a single person didn’t have a crush on a hot older neighbor in their life. When that crush comes to you 6 years later and says they thought you were a ‘beautiful person’ (even though they had exactly ONE conversation) and says shit like
““Just a curiosity as to who she was and why her eyes felt like she saw more—understood more—than someone should at her age.”
I have such a problem!! Even HE says he knows what he is saying is weird. MAKE IT NOT WEIRD THENN. Man would’ve been 22/23 and she was 17 please knock it the fuck off. Make her 18, or make him 18/19, why does this even need to be a thing? Not to mention after not speaking for 6 years, within 24 hours of reuniting this man says- TO HER FACE- the sight of her sweating turns him on.

Be so fucking fr with me rn.

I’m also so extremely frustrated because I had no idea this book was a spinoff until I stopped about 20% in because I felt so lost and missing so much info I had to deep dive and figured it out. You VERY much need to read the other series before this because the entirety of of cast of characters will make no sense unless you know what happened. Events are referenced that Sam
did for them numerous times that are pivotal to the plot and I couldn’t tell you what happened. Who are all these werewolves? Yea she’s saved like half of them, how? When? Where? Why? I didn’t know this world or these characters and it was so so rough getting into it not knowing these things. If i don’t have to read the other series to read this, EXPLAIN THESE THINGS.

It is so incredibly frustrating to love a concept of a book. Be INVESTED the first 15%, confused as fuck until 70% and then have to suffer through the last 30% just to mark as completed.

This was the very first ARC that I was approved for and for that alone I‘m thankful, though it did make me a bit nervous. I‘m not lying when I say I dropped everything else I was reading to start this because I wanted to provide feedback as quickly as possible. Unfortunately it also got to me right as I had to be preparing for my upcoming exams so though busy and stressed I gave this my best shot.

The cover made me click on it initially and then I read the description and thought „Demons huh? Sounds interesting.“ So I applied for the ARC and against all odds (aka me having no real qualifications or a previous feedback history) and I‘m truly grateful for that.

Samantha‘s story began with an intense start, one that would most likely freak me out if it happened to me. That’s something that remained throughout the book as she got thrown from one turmoil into the next. However, she managed just fine with her powers that I found really interesting. In a similar vein I also liked the concept of the spiritual realm being layered right on top of the normal mortal realm, I‘d never seen it written like this before.

Granted, I‘m not a very spiritual or religious person, which is also why at times this story felt somewhat religion heavy. In a context of demons and angels, I do suppose that makes sense, but it is something I noticed.

Something else I noticed that bothered me slightly, was the obsession that every character had with getting Sam a boyfriend. I liked the characters, Frank, Eli, Sam‘s mom and the werewolf pack (also Steve that I was very interested in from his two sentence appearance), but a lot of their dialogue/interaction was centered around finding Sam a partner and it just felt a bit much.

Speaking of partner, I also liked Phoenix, but my other slight criticism is that I didn’t fully feel the chemistry between him and Sam. They liked each other no doubt, but with what little time they actually spent together, I just had a hard time feeling that. It wasn’t the worst relationship I‘ve read about at all, also knowing there‘d already been some sort of history and they „knew“ each other before, but as they admitted themselves in the book they were moving a bit fast. I‘ll give them brownie points for at least being self-aware though.

Aside from that however, I don’t think I have any more criticism on it. The concept and plot were interesting, Sam was relatable to me at more points than I‘d like to admit and the stakes were just high enough to keep me on edge while not stressing me out too much.

Overall this was a solid and suspenseful read and I enjoyed it!

This is exactly the kind of world I can get lost in, it's filled with intrigue, danger, and a world of supernaturals.
Samantha is different, she may seem like a normal teen on the surface, but she's been to Hell, literally. Her father is determined to drag her back, and she's doing everything she can to avoid that, except she's also helplessly drawn to chaos and danger and has a need to save everyone she can. Bumping into her neighbour one night draws them both into the unknown as she has to exorcise a demon and open a portal to hell, all with her neighbours help.
Not exactly the introduction she had planned for her crush, but that's the world she lives in.
6 years later their paths cross unexpectedly and it seems destiny has a plan. But romance has to wait for a while as Samantha has a rescue mission in hell, friends to save, her father to avoid, and a whole host of chaos.
I love the found family elements and the bonds they all share, and the mix of shifters, angels and demons.
Although there are dark themes with the demon attacks, possessions, evil father dragging her to hell, the banter and their bonds keeps it lighthearted.
I love the building romance, the way Phoenix is so accepting of Samantha, and the journey they have ahead of them. Excited for book 2!

1.5 rounded up

I went into this blind. The cover caught my attention and I just saw the word “demon” in the description and was excited to read it. I thought it would be closer to City of Souls demons but it was an urban fantasy story. Which is totally ok if that is what you are looking for/ enjoy reading. I was a bit thrown off by the religious bits at times but that is just a personal thing.

The main thing for my rating is that although most of the story happens when the fmc is 23 years old, it felt more like following the life of a teenager. I noticed this in the first few chapters but thought it was only because she was 17 at the time and was socially awkward, however even 6 years later while living among many others, she still thought and acted immature for her age.

There was also a lot of repetition. For example, the fmc pointed out her relationship to the main side characters three times in the same chapter.

One last thing, I didn’t feel the romance. The dialogues felt awkward and robotic instead of flowing smoothly throughout the whole book. It would be one thing if it was like this when they first met, but it kept happening.

It wasn’t a bad book as clearly seen by other reviews, it just wasn’t for me.

The plot and the world in general were done so well and is different than other paranormal books I've read previously. We follow our FMC, Samantha, as she helps humans (and sometimes non-humans) who get into demonic trouble. She's uniquely perfect for this role because her father is a very powerful demon, and that gives her certain abilities that normal humans do not have. I wasn't expecting it to have such strong religious themes, but I guess it makes sense considering the book is centered around Heaven and Hell, angels and demons. That real-world religious aspect made it feel very eerie, bordering on scary at times. There is also a romance subplot that I like the idea of, but the execution left a little to be desired. In theory their story is so cute, but it felt very rushed at the end and sometimes didn't seem like the two characters had great chemistry together. On the other end of the spectrum, there was decision-making that needed to happen very quickly (as a matter of life or death) at the end of the book and it felt like everyone involved took FOREVER to come to a decision. Which just seemed out of character for everyone based on actions earlier in the book. This was still a really fun read, and I know I'll be continuing the series!

My name is Samantha Catherine Lopez, and I am Nephilim. This is my story.

From the opening pages, I was immediately drawn into Samantha’s world. Aileen Erin seamlessly wove together a tale of good and evil that made it hard to look away. The characters came to life, even when they were dead. I love that Samantha runs towards danger and faces her fears, knowing it’s the right thing to do.

I have read books with paranormal creatures, heavenly and demonic creatures, and the humans they walk among, but Invocation is an original take on a familiar story line.

Invocation is a fast paced thriller that took my breath away and had me clutching my ereader, white knuckled, on the edge of my seat, devouring words before they could devour Samantha. She has friends all around her, but going to Hell and facing her father is something she must do alone. Talk about family problems….her father is a fallen angel and he wants her in Hell with him.

When Samantha and her father come face to face and her strength falters, who will reach out and bring her home?

At first I thought this could be a stand alone, no series book, but I was so glad to find out it’s not. I want more and I want it now!

I would like to thank Aileen Erin and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review Invocation.

This is book 1 of a new series. I will be honest and say I didn't read the blurb or anything I just signed up purely because the cover was so cool!!! Well I'm so glad I was on this tour because this book was so good !! I seriously couldn't put this book down. This kept me on the edge of my seat I really haven't read many Urban Fantasies but this one really set the tone for me.
I mean this book really had everything!! I loved Sam's story and I related with her so much. I think that's why this book was so good because it's so relatable. I mean I do kinda wish we had a little more romance. I loved how descriptive this book was. Really pictured everything so clearly. I mean this book really had everything especially the world building fantastic !! I seriously couldn't get enough of this book. I really can't wait for the next book to come out !!!
Highly recommend!!

I have to admit at first i struggled getting into this book. It took me a good 2-3 weeks to get going, but once I did I’m glad I did. It was a good book. I’ve never read any of the authors other books “Alpha Girl” series but that didn’t stop me from knowing what was going on. There is a little romance, urban fantasy and horror wrapped up in one. I had a hard time staying focused because of the religious aspect though, it felt weird for me to have a priest and everyone else so focused on her live life and I’m not sure if that will play into the next book or not. I really enjoyed Sam’s POV though. Thank you for approving me to read this ARC!

Invocation by Aileen Erin.
Days of iron and clay book one.
I loved the cover and blurb of this book. I really did enjoy this book. I loved Samantha and Phoenix and Eli. I didn't like Astaroth. Samantha father. Once I got to the second part, I couldn't put it down. It's full of action. I loved how everyone was. Cosette, Chris, Claudia. They were like family. I did like the writing style. I loved the Angel’s and demons part. Especially how they were described. I can't wait for the next book. I would definitely recommend this book.

2.5 stars

This had a good idea, but ended up being mostly talking in circles and little action. The main character is constantly second guessing herself and thinking about going to hell even though it's clear she's a good person. I also thought the mentions of God and religion were a bit much, even with it being a good vs evil type of story.

The climax of the story was mostly told through another person, so we didn't even get to see everything that was happening. I feel like the author just wasn't sure how to write the scene and was disappointed. I don't think I'll read the second installment.

I was given this book in exchange for my honest review for which I am so thankful!

I did enjoy this story however there was a bit more religion than I had anticipated and that's just not for me. However the story line is intriguing and I enjoyed the concept! I did find it took awhile to get more fast passed but overall a good read!

Thank you Netgalley for the copy of Invocation. I loved this plot. I definitely wish it was more Adult but it feels like it should 100 percent be a CW show. It has a buffy/supernatural vibe to it. The characters are all great. Absolutely love Gabe the demon and Frank. I hope as the books progress Sam reads as more of an adult than a teen. She definitely gave off 17 the whole book. I feel like she has a lot of potential to be more likable. This is my first book by Aileen Erin. It's not what I wpuld normally gravitate towards but it was cute and fun. It is a very quick read even at 300 pages. If you are a supernatural or Buffy fan I think this will be right up your alley.

*I received a free ARC of this book from the publisher*

This was a fantastic YA story and introduction to Samantha's life and the world she sees. She is brave, strong, and fiercely loyal, while also being relatable through her self-doubt and anxiety induced by past traumas. She would be the best kind of friend to have, which had me rooting for her the entire book. I also love her friends and family, and Phoenix is a gem. I loved the very wholesome romance in the book and I cannot wait to see more of it in the next book. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys YA romantasy!

I absolutely loved this book, it blew my mind and was incredibly thought provoking. I've been a huge fan of Aileen Erin for a while, ever since I started her Alpha Girl series. I now want to reread Alpha Girl and I'm not usually a rereader. I'm getting the same feels for Samantha and Phoenix that I had for Tessa and Dastien. Some of the themes in this story stick with you days after reading it, love, loyalty and bravery. Yes, there is insta-romance because in the paranormal they are guided by destiny. I believe Sam's loved ones want her to find her someone because she needs more in her life than this constant battle against evil. Samantha's mantra about not polluting your body with dark influences is an excellent reminder in fiction and in real life, I know it kept me awake rethinking some of my innocuous choices. Star Wars fans will see the comparisons to using the force for good or evil. I could also go on forever about Aileen's world building! I felt I was right by Samantha's side whenever she hung over a portal to hell. Her descriptions of the unbearable heat, terror and agony emanating from the pits are conversely bone chilling. Even though I laughed, I cried, I swooned, this book isn't fluff, it's a heartfelt epic adventure!
