One Horseman of the Apocalypse down, three more to go.
Basil and his team leave France as acclaimed heroes, but a new threat arise in the East: his homeland of Bulgaria is besieged by the mechanical armies of the Unity and their ruthless dragon general, the cruel Blackcinders! With the help of his new ally, the mysterious Kalki, Basil must journey across Europe and show the invaders mankind won't kneel before them.
However, challenges are many: Basil's mother Aleksandra is alive somewhere in Bulgaria; the Maleking, now short of a Horseman of the Apocalypse, schemes to enter Earth in person; and Blackcinders might prove to be the team's deadliest foe yet...
But no one said being the Apocalypse Tamer would be easy.
Alright, the book series follows the same logic and feeling as in Vanquire the dragon, I was listening to audio book, so listener beware, even though I like narrator very much in this book he tries to impersonate Bulgarian accent and it does poor job, its so annoying, the 4th book I bought for kindle and there experiance is much better.
That should be the name of this series. Each one has been just good enough to get the next one. This one is no exception. About half is good, A quarter is eye rolling, and the final quarter is meh. One of the things that bothered me the most was ignoring established system rules in an attempt to heighten the drama. Every single one of the rule breaches could have been done without and still ended up with the same conclusion. When one side has RULES! and the other has suggestions it decreases my enjoyment of the experience. If there was even a hint of a reason why some are able to break the established rules when others are not it would have been different, and I might have given 4 stars. The next one is the final installment so I will read it and hope that the story's completion makes it a series that is better than good enough. Tom out
Apocalypse Tamer: 3 Having helped reclaim Paris, Basil sets off to reunite the reincarnation of Vishnu with his love, but first a detour to return to Bulgaria and to his mother, who has miraculously survived the System-generated madness. Story becomes more grimmer with each book, the few moments of light-hearted banter not enough to offset the realities of the apocalypse. Also, the leveling gets more and more ridiculous. Basil is repeatedly given food for thought, a few by the Maleking, but he stubbornly refuses to think too much into it, brushing them off as a devil's temptation, which was annoying. I didn't enjoy this one as much, so I give it a 3.5 generously rounded up to 4. I'm glad the author has a planned ending for this series (though his prediction to end it with book 3 didn't make it).
A couple of really funny scenes to punctuate the ongoing death and destruction of Earth. I was slightly more into this one than the last, but not quite as into it as the first.
Either way, I love seeing the horsemen of the apocalypse get taken down. A gun on the moon? That was pretty wild. But nothing beats in-laws and dinner parties.
This is a solid LitRPG with a great ensemble.
Personal note: If anyone reading my reviews might be interested in reading my SF (Very hard SF, mind you), I'm open to requests.
Just direct message me in goodreads or email me on my site. I'd love to get some eyes on my novels.
I didn't like Basil in Book 1 but stayed because of the supporting characters and the story. However, our MC has grown into a hero the world needs as events have forced him to face his fears and insecurities in order to save those that have become important to him.
More people should read this series and I can't wait for the concluding book.
Definitely a bit different than expected in this one. It flows well with the rest of the series though. The character growth was well done, with some nice ability progression. It ramped up pretty quickly towards the end. Can’t wait to start the next one.
This series is approaching its end, but there is still at least one more book to go, and I've already started it. It is fast-paced, with a bit more romance but very light, and we get to see some awesome upgrades. The power sets in this book are fascinating. I am still having a hard time putting these books down.
Still an enjoyable good read, has tie ins from the other books the author made and they're making the MC journey much easier. Dont know if I'm a fan of that kind of ruins the tension knowing there are goods who can help the MC if needed.
wow, seems like the background of this volume also in Christmas and new year. this volume is not as long as the previous volume, and also the content is lighter.
