I liked this book but not as much of the first and a lot of that is because I felt in some ways like I was still reading Kenna’s story and not Dani’s. I also think the author starting to realize this and sent Kenna off scene so the focus could actually shift to Dani.

My biggest issue was I didn’t like Mo/Dani together at all. I fell in love with Mo’s character in the first book and I guess I was just expecting more for him. I’m not saying I don’t like Dani but the romance was rushed and I didn’t get a real sense of the chemistry between the two characters.

I have to also let folks know who listen to the audiobook that 1/5th of the book is spent on a single flashback and much of that flashback was told in the first book. This was a really difficult thing to get through as an audiobook because I felt like I had heard it all before and it took away from the current story.

I know a lot of folks had issues with the cliffhanger ending. I didn’t because Kenna and Dani have been the two leads for this scenario and the cliffhanger setup the third book to be able to focus on someone else. I just hope the author can pull it off.

This whole series is just fantastic, it was a pleasure to read each and every book. The characters, main and secondary, are all wonderfully drawn. Some are hilarious, like the old ladies who own the B&B and cafe in town. My favorite thing about the Bluegrass series is how well each book ties into the next in the series.

The southern flavor in these books is spot on and delicious. I'm looking forward to reading other series by this author for sure! Put Risky Shot on your must read list!

We meet Danielle and Mo in book 1, Danielle is Kenna’s best friend and the other woman to be witness to a crime. So when they think its save for Danielle to come to Kenna she does.

She then meets Mo’s who is a modern day Prince. And they hit it off; I loved this so very much. I loved Mo in the first book and knew, knew he needed a HEA.

But so does Danielle she is so head strong and strong of heart she needs that someone to let her be her.

I loved this town, this series and all its characters.

I forgot it ends in a cliff-hanger so without farther a due I am off to start it!

Eric G. Doves narration.. Again is fanfreakingtastic!! I can’t even he has all these voice he makes everyone have their own. I love that he can do the old ladies!! Haha

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Quick read but so cheese. I really like the plot of this story with the continuation from the first book into this one. You never know when the bad guys were going to be at, but the romance between Dani and Mo was mush.

Dani, having been fallowing the men in black in NYC for 4 month has decide to come to Kentucky. Mo is a prince just looking for love in all the women his father sends to him. He has until her 35 birthday to pick her own bride or his father is going to do.

Mo was already have in love with Dani before she even arrived in Keeneston, but when he saw her he just knew she was the one!

The Cliffhanger at the end of this book is probably one of the best.

A good second book in the series. I enjoyed going back and seeing the events in New York from Dani's perspective. We knew the information from book 1 when we saw things happen from Kenna's perspective, but seeing the same events through different eyes was good.

I enjoyed meeting Mo in book 1 and learning about his marriage deal with his father. It was nice to see him fall in love with Dani and not only fulfill his requirements, but truly find someone he loved. It did seem a little far fetched that Dani's father and Mo's father knew each other even though they were from different countries and had only done business over the phone. Now they meet face to face in the US in Mo's house after Dani and Mo have fallen in love. A little unbelievable.

Seeing Dani practicing her self defense with the Davies brothers was a nice way to introduce us to Paige's brothers (therefore setting up more books in the series). Dani really is faced with lots of physical trauma during this book, but remains strong.

Of course, it was great to see prior characters like the Rose sisters and continue to see Will & Kenna (and their wedding) plus learn more about Paige. Again, another good set up for more in the series.

This book was a big let down. First reason is that I really really like Mo and Dani but there was very little romance between them. I wish that there was more time devoted to their relationship. Second reason is that it ended in cliffhanger. I so wish authors would clue you in on that ahead of time. I do not like books with cliff hangers. I do not want to read a book that wants to force me to read the next book inorder to get the full story. I really like the plot of the book and series but i feel it could have been executed better.

Overall the series was a disappointment. I did not like that the author didn’t disclose that the books were not standalone. Their “big thriller” in the first book carries through the series and the 2nd books ends in a cliffhanger. With exception to book 3, the romances seem like a side plot. As much as I liked Mo and Dani (second book) there was hardly any romance. It seemed like a whirilwind romance which was definitely disappointing since they are my favorite couple in the series. The people you meet in the town are the best part of the book. I initially had a hard time recalling all the towns people but they really made the book enjoyable, especially the Rose sisters. It was the love of the people that kept me reading the series.

I really enjoyed Blue Grass State of Mind where we met McKenna and Will. McKenna saw her boyfriend and a bunch of high ranking politicians in a bit of a precarious situation and went on the run when they tried to silence her. Before hitting the road, she told her friend everything that happened. That friend being Dani, stayed behind to try to get as much dirt and information as she could before she met up with McKenna. Risky Shot is Dani's story and if I'm being completely honest, it was a big let down.

We got to see a bit of what Dani went through while she remained behind in New York. Between living in her car, in homesless shelters, and being chased all over the city, she has been living a rough life. When she finally makes it into the small town where McKenna is hiding out, she's immediately embraced by the locals. I think, for me, seeing all these strangers take Dani in and protect her was by far the best part of the story. That and when a bunch of older women toting shot guns held off a predator until authorities could arrive. That was pretty awesome.

However, the story jumped ahead and didn't really give you any sense of depth. Dani's love interest is Mo, someone we sort of meet in the previous book. However, he might as well have still been a secondary character in this novel. They go out on one date and all of a sudden they are in love, and she's just waltzing into his house like she lives there. They relationship progressed way too fast and it came out of nowhere. Not only did I have a problem with the pacing of their relationship, but the story itself would jump ahead from situation to the next within the same chapter, with little warning. Time seemed to speed by and it left no time for me to get any grasp on the characters.

With that being said, there are a bunch of errors in the book. There was even a part in the book where Dani's parents are just hanging out in Mo's house, without him even knowing. They show up to his house, get inside the front door, start making out, and all of a sudden Dani's father is yelling at Mo for molesting his daughter. I am so confused as to why her parent's were just hanging out in his house. He had never met them before, they had no idea who he was, and the whole thing just seemed misplaced. I kept thinking maybe I misread something and they were really at the B&B or something but after a few times reading the scene, I realized her parents were just randomly creeping around in her boyfriends house.

This could have been a really great addition to the storyline but it's random pacing and grammatical errors left me wanting to put it down more times than not. I didn't connect with the characters, I didn't like or understand their romance, and I just felt like the book never told Dani's story. This ends on a rather big cliffhanger but even that can't push me to read the next book in the series.

This book tells us Danielle De Luca's story. If you haven't read the first book, you shouldn't start with this one. There is a big story on-going and you have to start with Kenna's book to get the whole thing. You will be spoilered if you read this before you read Bluegrass State of Mind.

It starts where the first one ended, with Dani arriving at Kenna's doorstep. Finally, she is here and for the moment save from the bad guys back in New York. Dani tells Kenna and the others what she learned when she stayed in New York instead of running as Kenna told her to do. But Dani is stronger and was determined to find out more about the people behind the crime to get a feeling what is really going on and it is worse then Kenna thought. Powerful people are involved and determined to silence Kenna and Dani forever. Chad is still on the loose and out to get them and Agent Parker is scrambling for evidence to finally get all those people behind bars. Of course there is also a romantic angle in the story when Dani meets Sheik Mohtadi Ali Rahmen who is Kenna's neighbor and very good friend. We all know about the 'bachelorettes' Mo's father is sending regularly to get his son to finally marry one of the women he has chosen for him. It's practically love at first sight but not without obstacles which was funny to read because Dani is no push over.

Another good book with a very cruel cliffhanger. I'm very glad that the third book is already published because I'm dying to know what happens next. Again a 5 star read for me. Keep them coming, Kathleen!!

I liked that with this book we got to see how Dani was surviving while in NYC in the aftermath. Sounds like she was both brave and stupid in her actions. But I think my favorite part of the book was her coming to KY and how much of a fish out of water she was, how the towns people continually surprised her in a good way. The romance with Mo was cute. I also liked that they had more in common than they both realized at first. I hated how this one ended, mostly because it was a cliff hanger and a huge one at that. Makes me glad I have the next book ready to go.

Risky Shot is the second book in Kathleen Brooks’ Bluegrass Series and this book end with a humdinger of a cliff hanger, not since “who shot JR” do I remember a cliff hanger like this one. I’ll admit though if I’d had to wait more than two minutes to read the next book, it probably would have ticked me off so I’m kind of glad I discovered these when the next book was already out! That’s not to say this isn’t a good book, because it is but you’ll want to have book three loaded and ready to go when you finish this one.

Danielle (Dani) De Luca is Kenna’s friend from New York. She finally makes it to Kentucky and arrives with a slight chip on her shoulder when she finds Kenna living in the lap of luxury while she’s been reduced to living out of her car. In this book, we get to relive Dani’s life as she stayed behind in New York to gather information when Kenna fled. I love strong female characters and Dani is one smart, tough lady. I found myself amazed by her actions and scared to death for her at the same time. Dani gains the respect of everyone involved with solving the case against Kenna’s ex-boyfriend and boss. She also catches the eye of Mo; as you might remember is a Shiek who runs a horse ranch next to Kenna and Will.

Things really escalate in this book with the ongoing case plus Mo’s parents arrive and his father is rude and condescending to Dani. He wants Mo to marry someone from their country but Mo has his sight set on Dani. Dani’s parents come to visit just to add to the mayhem and in addition more unsavory characters have arrived in town as well. We also see more of Kenna’s friend Paige and her five brothers in this book and that’s a really, really good thing!

Risky Shot is a great addition to this series, and while Dani and Mo’s developing relationship is an important piece of this story the investigation of the crimes Kenna and Dani witnessed in New York is given equal time. I’m actually surpised at how complex this story line is and amazed at the lengths people go to in order to cover up their transgressions. As I stated above, the ending to this book is a cliffhanger, you’ve been warned and I can guarantee you’ll be reaching immediately for book three.

Cute and fast paced!

Okay, I read this one last night...and at first, I couldn't figure out where I got this book. Then I remembered that there was deal in iTunes/iBooks and these were 2.99$ so I got #2 and #3 and then the Bluegrass Brothers #1. I really liked the NYC girls heading to Kentucky. The choice of Kentucky did have me thinking (Lori Foster has many-o-killer hiding out in Kentucky; Lora Leigh and her Nauti boys are there along with some crazed survivalist)...so now, these girls are hiding out in Kentucky, meeting rich horse breeders and busting up an organized ring of snuff-loving poker players who happen to be judges, FBI directors and senators.

Short, fast paced and good chick dialogue. The steam is low (so don't expect any deets)...though, I want to see Ahmed hooked up and smiling. Check this out...moving on to #3 tonight.

Second part of the Bluegrass trilogy is almost as wonderful as the first one. I loved the characters and the way the story is told. In the first few chapters the story from the first book is retold from Danielle's perspective and continues then with the shift to Danielle and Mo as main characters instead of Kenna and Will though all the characters from the first book are still in the center of the story.
The pace is very fast and the events especially in the second half of the book don't let you put the book down so you don't mind the slight weaknesses in character development but it's still a real page turner - again.
As soon as I finished this book I started the next one again - both times
:-)
By the way I think friends of Nora Robert's and Janet Evanovich's books will like Kathleen Brook's books too.

Kathleen Brooks is back with her second book from Bluegrass Series. Her first book was Bluegrass State of Mind. Risky Shot is her second book in the row. Her stories revolve around strong female protagonist with a blend of romance and thriller and a pinch of humor and happy-endings. Her Bluegrass Series and Bluegrass Brothers Series feature small town charm with quirky characters while her Women of Power Series depict that behind a sexy billionaire is a man strong enough to love her!

Risky Shot is about Danielle De Luca, a story from her shoes and about her struggles. So far she had survived without the comforts of her wealthy family. In the anticipation of events that being a witness of a horrific crime , she finds her life spinning and out of control as some of the nation’s biggest power are trying to end it. In the quest of survival , she escapes her way back to small town of Keeneston from New York.

As a prince of small nation of Rahmi , Mohtadi Ali Rahman went against his father’s wishes and followed his heart by moving to Keeneston , Kenstuky. He finds his love interest in Danielle , who arrives in Keeneston with killers on her heels. Their connection is instant. Now it is upon Mohtadi whether to choose his heart or to walk away with the decision of his family. And the story continues….

This is her second book in the row , of the first being the Bluegrass State of Mind. Danielle De Luca , being an ex-beauty queen is not at all of what she seems like. She leaves New York city off the criminals tracking to destroy her. She escapes her way back in Keeneston , Kenstucky to make her final stand by her best friend McKenna Mason.
While in Keeneston she develops a constant connection with Mohtadi who owns a horse farm here. Can Mohtadi protect Danielle from powerful men in New York? Or will Danielle save the prince from his rigid loveless fate?

After reading Bluegrass State of Mind , I got my hands on this book . The book had a slow beginning. The book starts off at the point where Bluegrass State of mind end ; Danielle De Luca arrives on McKenna’s doorstep. It makes the readers wonder on how she must have protected herself and survived through those months when McKenna was away.
After getting separated from the incident on McKenna’s 29th birthday and the being a witness to horrific incident at Greendale and Thompson. In anticipation of the events where-in McKenna escapes her way back to Keeneston , Danielle manages to stay low-key in New York , trying to hide her identity and gathering evidence against the criminals.

After she arrives in Keeneston she works with the FBI and the law-enforcement authority to track down the bad guys. She survives all the discomforts and endures the pain by sacrificing each day by disguising herself and hiding her identity.

She develops an instant connection with Mohtadi Ali Rahman , who becomes her romantic interest. Mohtadi had been an ultimatum by his father to marry someone of his choice or he shall have agree for an arranged marriage organized by his father. When criminals track down Danielle , their happiness is threatened.

The story-line is intricate and the book ends in a cliff-hanger. Reading Risky Shot is fun and it keeps you engaged. The book is based on supporting characters like Danielle and Mohtadi. It intrigues me enough on reading how smartly Danielle manages to disguise her identity and escapes from the dungeons of the criminals who are trying to trace her presence ; being a girl born in a wealthy family she makes her own way.

The book is highly recommended for readers who are fond of reading adventures thrill. Overall it’s an average book , I enjoyed reading it. Reading this book is always fun , drowning into oblivion of world of Keeneston. I see myself reaching out for the third book ie. Dead Heat.

Risky Shot is the second book in the Bluegrass series by Kathleen Brooks. ‘Bluegrass’ combines romance and suspense, with a touch of Southern charm.
A few years ago a friend recommended this author, and her many series, to me - as she had devoured every book and absolutely loved them, singing the author’s praises from high from the hilltops. So, being an avid reader who loves discovering new authors and enticing reads, I took my friends recommendations seriously, and started amassing Ms. Brooks many books, with the plan to have a huge binge session/buddy read with my friend. But with so many books on my TBR, and new, exciting ones releasing every week, I always seemed to get pulled into other books- as these just kept piling up.
Since part of my yearly reading challenges for the past few years has been to dust off my TBR pile/s and read the books that have been languishing there the longest, I decided to finally dive in and get the series read. While I did ‘enjoy’ the books for the most part- I didn’t fall madly in love with them as my friend promised that I would. But that’s ok, I am really happy that she loves them as much as she does. But for me, they were just an ‘okay’ read.
With plenty of small-town drama, intrigue, angst, chemistry, humour, community, family, friendship, charm, mystery, tension, danger, emotion, and suspense- the stories are about finding love unexpectedly and love conquering all.
The books can all be read as standalones if you wanted, without feeling ‘lost’ or like you are missing big pieces of the picture. This is because each instalment introduces its own ‘couple’- providing plenty of romance, a dash of suspense, and some sweet development to make your heart flutter.
But I have to be honest, I found there were a few issues which detracted from my overall enjoyment of the stories/series. Such as the ‘wordiness’ which really slowed the flow of the storyline at times, as there was such an overwhelming amount of detail which didn’t really ‘add’ to or propel the story in any way, except to perhaps distract from the plot. I love details, normally- but not when there are pages of descriptions, as things tend to ‘bog’ down and the flow/pace/plot gets lost amongst the detritus- and also leads to some ‘wandering’ storylines. There were also many loose ends, for me- threads that were left hanging, or not fully woven into the storyline- which I found a bit frustrating.
I really wanted to love this series as much as my friend did…. but instead, I was left a little disappointed.
Happy reading! 📚💙

Audio book review.

I really enjoyed seeing Dani's side of the story, how she viewed McKenna leaving and how she survived on her own running from the men who want to kill them both. I think her falling for the sheik was so incredibly insta-love it's not even funny. Not that I don't want these two to get their happily ever after, but it just felt so rushed and under-developed. I didn't really feel the spark between them, but I still love the characters, both major and minor. Especially the Rose sisters! I actually cracked up when Mo got drenched because the landlady was just emptying her flower vase. Haha! That ending though....With Chad, and then the very last scene at the court house? How dare you end a book that way?!? Of course I had to read on immediately to find out what happened. Way to pull off the shock ending!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I LOVE THIS AUTHOR!!

Danielle De Luca is a force to be reckoned with—an ex-beauty queen with a hidden past and a determination to take down the criminals hunting her. Escaping to Keeneston brings her face-to-face with Mohtadi Ali Rahman, a quiet but powerful prince with his own burdens. Their connection is immediate, filled with sparks, but complicated by secrets and danger.
The romance in Risky Shot is richer and more layered than the first book. Mo is a fantastic hero—protective but respectful, and the contrast between his world and Dani’s adds depth to their relationship. The action and suspense are also dialed up, keeping the tension high without overpowering the romance.
Kathleen Brooks does a great job balancing humor, steamy moments, and thrilling suspense. If you enjoyed the first book, this one takes everything up a notch and delivers an even stronger story.

Overall Amanda score: A
Mo and Dani! Finally!
Ok real talk. Dani is like my hero. She acts like she is this broke girl with walmart flip flops when really she is what??? She is so strong, refusing to use the money from her parents wanting to make her own way. That is one of the reasons why I admire her so much. Also she is a bad***.
Mo: mmmmmmmmmmmm..... oh so sexy. I do think he could have pushed all those girls out a little better. IDC who his dad is. I know he had his mom in his corner... But I get it. kinda. I mean I am no princess, I mean some long lost grandma hasn't come to tell me I am the princess of Genovia or anything yet...
Ahmed: when is his story??? I love this character so much! He is the perfect daddy figure. Storng and silent and yet can make you smile.
I really loved this book as well.

2.5 stars rounded up.

It had some interesting parts, which is why I've rounded up instead of down. It was worse than the first book, though. The relationship between the main 2 didn't make me feel anything. I was actually bored for most of the 2nd half. I don't know what it is about this series, but I almost want to know what happens in the next book. It's sort of like a train wreck, you should look away, but you can't.

Eric G Dove-4 stars-much much better here than the 1st book.

Stile semplice e scorrevole, ambientazione realistica e dialoghi frizzanti. Il finale è un cliffhanger che ho adorato.

Dani and Mo. love how they met and their immediate attraction. The buildup of the relationship, the case that brought them together, and the town dynamic was colorful, vivid and well developed. Ahmed continues to be my favorite, but I also am here for Marshall and well all the men so far. The three sisters are adorable and I wish every town had them because they enrich this series and the characters so much. The ending was extremely unexpected and makes you dive into the next book immediately.

How do I feel about the series? I have already dug deep into Book 3. Risky Shot continues the tale started in Book 1. The colorful characters are back, digging deeper to track the dirty officials and bad guys, while romance blooms. The book is fun (the whole series in fact) and has so many twists and turns. Bravo, Kathleen Brooks !!

Dani finally makes it to Kentucky, and has more information about the people involved. She settles into town, and meets Mo and they are attracted to each other. Dani starts working for Kenna. Kenna and Will get married . The bad FBI guy comes to town to kill Kenna & Dani, and is captured. Then Chad comes back, and Dani shots him. Mo and Dani become engaged.

Major cliffhanger

I really dislike cliffhangers, but I still gave this book 5 stars because I enjoy the setting, the writing, the characters, the suspense, and the romance. It has some unique and lovable characters. But of course I'm forced to get the next book to see what happens to the 2 main characters in this series. And they better not die!!!!!
