B.J. Daniels started her life in Houston, Texas, before her family moved to Montana at age five. She grew up in a cabin in the Gallatin Canyon near Big Sky and later on Hebgen Lake near West Yellowstone. Because of her love for Montana, most of her books are set there. Born into a storytelling family, all she'd ever wanted to do was write stories. After a career as an award-winning newspaper journalist, she wrote and sold 37 short stories before she finally wrote her first book, ODD MAN OUT. Since then she has won numerous awards including a career achievement award for romantic suspense. She lives in Montana with her husband, Parker, two Springer Spaniels. When she isn't writing, she quilts, boats and. makes rope/fabric baskets. She always reads, loving to lose herself in a good book.
I don’t really know how to review this. Some parts of it were good, some less so, but the biggest problem was the two different storylines running parallel. It would’ve worked better in two books, but I guess one of them isn’t done yet, working as the main series arc.
As far as the main story goes – the haunted house, the clairvoyant in denial etc. – the pacing was good and the characterization also, the plot interesting, but once again, I didn’t particularly like the heroine (the denial part just bugged me) and the hero seemed a bit bland. I guess the supporting cast (Sierra in particular) stole the show in this one.
Another great mystery/suspense book by B.J. Daniels! Alexa Cross if forced to face her past that she has tried so hard to forget and deny. This book is filled with mystery and old ghosts and a new love/protector, Marshall Chisholm. Great story that kept me wanting more. Book #4 in the whitehorse Montana, Chisholm Cattle Company series.
I got this one because I read the previous one in this series and there were unrevolved issues. Those issues are still unrevolved. I give it a 3 stars based on that. The romance between Alexa and Marshall was good and if the book had been solely about them I'd have given this 4 or 4 and 1/2 stars. But it's not.
Another in the Chisholm Cattle Company series in which Alexa Cross is intent on finding out what is going on with her brother after his marriage to a woman Alexa doesn't know and doesn't trust. When she arrives at Wellington Manor, her clairvoyance feelings tell her it's not a house she wants to spend time in, but she has no choice.
Marshall Chisholm sees Alexa when he rides near the Manor and when she finds herself running for her life toward his nearby house, they meet and begin a relationship that is a surprise for each of them. Neither was looking for love, but is that what their attraction is portending?
Too bad the weirdness of certain characters is a turn-off unless one likes supernatural elements, which this reader does not. Then again, there's the problem that stepmother Emma continues to have with that insurance inspector who has claimed she's in danger from Hoyt's first supposedly dead wife. What's going to happen next?
Her mother is a psychic and well known for it. And when her brother calls her and asks her to come to Montana, because he thinks the house is trying to kill him, she drops everything and goes. The house belongs to Sierra, his wife who inherited it from her family and was known as the Wellington house. Some thought it was haunted. And it sure looked that way when Alexa had some strange things happening to her. But she has a nightmare one night and goes running to the nearest house in the vicinty (actually the only house) and gets rescued by a good looking cowboy. And it takes off from there!
Clairvoyant and a haunted house in a western romance? Oh well it worked. Sometimes I wish the end development and the romance was a little more fleshed out instead wham dam we are all done and everything is figured out!
BJ never disappoints. She keeps her readers going with the suspense she provides in her stories. You can’t help but try to figure out who did it. She keeps it up right to the very end. Loving this series.
Oh this one is so good. You won't be disappointed it was that's hard to put down with lots of twists and turns and when it comes to almost the end you will be held in suspense and say I really didn't see that coming so enjoy the read
I really enjoyed this one, it had quite a interesting twist from the other books! Was kinda sad at the end for the house, but there had been a lot of evil in it.
4 stars. Another good read in this series. The only thing I found disappointing was how rushed the ending was making it a little convoluted. Good read though.
The cliffhanger is still on going. Now the main storyline and characters in this book were fantastic. The drama and suspense were above the previous books. I had a hard time putting the book down.
"It was just a nightmare, " she whispered to herself as she stepped to the window, hoping for a breath of air... That's when she saw him. He wore nothing but jeans and boots, a towel draped over one shoulder as he sauntered toward the pond.
He disappeared behind the trees. A moment later she heard a splash.
The sound pulled her - just as the thought of the cowboy in the cool water of the pond did.
She knew what could happen if she continued down to the pond. Just the thought sent a shiver through her. She took a step, then another. As she walked through the deep shadows of the trees, she felt excitement stir within her - and desire. She began to run.
At the edge of the trees she stopped. She could see him swimming through the dark water, droplets washing over his brown skin, his back and shoulders shimmering in the moonlight.
Again, I'm reading this series out of order and I get the 'walking in to the middle of the conversation' feeling. The author didn't go over what previous happened that much, though I got a general idea of the on-going story lines from the previous entries. I really should read these in order, but alas, I have no control over what the library book sale offers!
I really felt the ominous atmosphere of the hotel and the majestic setting of the countryside. All the characters were interesting as was the main storyline. Who/why questions of the mystery were pretty interesting with shades of woo-woo.
I have a few more books by this author but whether they follow from this series, or her Whitehorse Montana series, I couldn't say but I look forward to reading them nonetheless.
After a lifetime of running from her "curse", Alexa Cross must now confront her past to save her family from an evil force. Is Wellington Manor haunted? Alexa senses something and finds nowhere to run except to a most definitely irresistible ally.
Marshall Chisholm's top priority is ending the threat against Alexa, and he'll stop at nothing to cure her fear and replace it with desire. But the closer they get, the more mysterious she becomes. And if they stand a chance of uniting to unlock a killer's secrets, Marshall must first try and unlock hers.
To escape a killer, Alexa must accept Marshall and all he offers her.
Great story. As always, B.J. Daniels tells the best.
I thought it was good. I didn't realize that this was a part of a series until about chapter three. There were names I thought sounded familiar and then it dawned on me that I have read another book from this series. Now of course it makes me want to buy the other two books in the series just to read the whole thing and to actually own the entire series. All in all not a bad book. Suspenseful indeed. Kept me on my toes the entire time. I thought one way and it went another way. Just the way I like it.
If you love a story heavy on the Intrigue and light on the romance, you'll probably love Stampeded. The romance built up quick and sweet with two likable characters in Alexa and Marshall but the family back stories overwhelmed everything.
Alexa's mum still scares me and Marshall's father's ex-wife twice-removed is an unknown so who knows what could happen there. I guess we'll have to wait and see...
The story of marshall and the new neighbours that move into the old abandon house across the pasture. The sister of the new owner whos mother was a sear. The story of aggie also continues in this book 4th in the series. Is the old mansion haunted or is there more going on there than renovations for a bed and breakfast.
Marshall, bro 4 of 6 continues the Chisolm Cattle Series. I agree this one was light on the romance, but that was ok with me. Loved the continual drama from old Aggie. Love BJ Daniels writing.
I really liked the suspense plot in this book and the ongoing twists and turns in the overarching plot of the series. The romance did not really do too much for me this time around
I loved loved loved this book. This book is my favorite out if the series so far. I'm a sucker for a good ghost story. This book had a little bit of that and cowboys. What more can a gal ask for!!
Okay book with a bad title. The story of a girl who sees dead people, who comes to rescue her brother from a cursed house and falls in love with the cowboy next-door.
