Omega #1

The Beginning Of Sorrows

Rate this book
Popular, dedicated nature worshiper, Aristide Luca Therion, becomes President of the waning United States of America when President Biship Beckwith dies in a fiery plane crash. Therion implements Project Final Unity, an electrical blackout covertly contrived by the German Union allies and Minden Lauer, Therion's spiritual mistress. The blackout is soon out of control, shutting down the entire country and bringing about chaos, anarchy, and famine. Will believers be able to once again bring hope or is this "The Beginning of Sorrows?"

Note from Publisher: Due to the overall sales of the first two books in the Omega Trilogy, we regret to report that the third book, Seven Golden Vials, will not be releasing. However, we are happy to announce a new series from Gilbert Morris, debuting in the spring of 2003, tentatively titled "The Creoles." Be looking for the first book to hit bookshelves early next year.

First book of a trilogy. The publisher never published the 3rd book though (due to sales of the first 2 books) so the reader is left hanging.

I actually really liked this book. But I have two complaints. The first is the amount of extraneous characters in it. Enough that, at times, it can be confusing trying to figure out if they are an integral part of the story. My other disappointment, when researching where I could buy the second book, since this is supposed to be a trilogy, is finding out that the third book has never been written. And there are no plans for it to be written. That being said, I still went ahead and purchased the second book. I’m hoping, but not expecting, that the second book will wrap up a few things. But all in all, I found it a very enjoyable book, that definitely kept my attention.

I liked this story. It is set in America in 2025. People live in enclosed wall cities because the environmentalists have gotten totally berserk about saving the earth. So, people are not free to to roam anymore. It’s nuts and not totally unforeseeable.
A blackout is planned but soon becomes a life unto itself. Things are running amuck and control is lost. People are dying, trapped without food, light or water. This was not the way is was supposed to happen.
The characters were interesting. The old couple and Zoan are among my favorites. It’s an easy read and will hold your interest.
Lots of action going on and now looking forward to the sequel.

A book that made me stop & think - there are a lot of characters so kinda hard to follow at first but once you read enough to know them it becomes an excellent story - Written in 1999 but seems we could be headed this way!!

A very different take on the conspiracy theories!

The Prologue tells about beautiful bluish green lights. Dr. Niklas Kesteven had found them in a cave. There were 5 men with him who followed his orders and sealed the cave with a solar blanket. No one seemed to know which country the mountain was part of. Dr. Kesteven sent the co-ordinates from his Cyclops unit & requested several things be sent to them, including a full microbioassay kit. He then left instructions that the Cyclops not be touched but watched, & if there were any black dots they were to all get in the cave. After the Dr. left, men came & took samples and sealed the cave. None of them ever saw it again.

This seems to fit in with many themes in fiction and TV series even this was published back in 99. Will have to see if the last in the series has been published yet. Will be interesting to see what happens in the second book of this trilogy.
