Scarlet Hyacinth was born in 1986, in a Romania still struggling under the weight of the communist regime. As a young girl, she started studying the English language and fell in love with books. After a childhood spent devouring hundreds of pages of fantasy literature, Scarlet found her calling. While at uni, she discovered with the help of a dear friend that she had a knack for writing. The rest, as they say, is history, or rather, lots of hard work and sleepless nights. Today, she can only say with a smile that nothing is impossible and that no matter what others say, you can achieve your dreams if you work hard enough.
'Two Mates for a Magistrate' is the third book in the series and finally gives some answers to the bigger questions of how this world works and what exactly the role of the Magistrate is. Seeing Wolfram react as a man on top of his function added some good emotional aspects to the purely political revelations about the bigger 'conspiracy' that is being revealed a little more with each volume. I also liked the fact that the characters from the first two volumes came back and we see what happened with them over the last seven years.
Fritz is a human who falls into the spirit wolf world completely unawares. His need to prove himself and stand up for what he believes is right may get him into trouble, but it also helps his other two mates cope with what is being thrown at them.
Dietrich is an amazing man/wolf/witch. He has been alone for a very long time and is about to go feral. His strength of will and devotion to his mates, once he admits that's who they are, is wonderful to watch.
Wolfram is the most mysterious of the three. He has learned to keep himself at a distance, and even though he tries, I felt that never quite melted away. He tried, but this sort of change is not an overnight transformation - which made him all the more believable.
If you like tales of the supernatural with some dark enemies and a bit of a conspiracy thrown in, want to admire three hot men learning to deal with each other and aren't afraid of a villain who will surprise you with his identity, you will probably like this book.
typical Scarlet Hyacinth serial romance. nothing fantastic, nothing so bad it can't be finished. what is typical Scarlet Hyacinth? imagine a shorter harlequin romance but with no t&a (see, i was going to write no surprise pregnancies, but... yeah.).
out of sheer laziness, i will be using this as my template for all serials by UNLESS motivated otherwise by markedly good/bad writing: Scarlet Hyacinth joyee flynn sunny day lynn hagen stormy glenn carol lynne gabrielle evans
i'd apologize for said halfassedness, but i'm not sorry.
I was kinda thrown by the sudden jump forward in time in this book. Also, I admit that I didn't really feel as connected with this set of mates as I did with the previous two books, and thought things moved a bit too fast. However, overall I continue to really enjoy this series. I'm really looking forward to book 4!
