I love Brenda Jackson books but this was not one of my favorites. I did however like the 2nd story of Felecia and Trask. The other two stories were too rushed to me and were not on the caliber I am used to reading with Brenda Jackson, but I am still a fan of hers.
The common thread is that opposites attract. That regardless of past heart ached or assumptions love has a way of making things work. Trask and Felicia, truly had a journey and a history.
Three different couples finding love in "Essence of Desire."
In "The Makeover" hero, Robert Noble purchases a luxurious historic home in his hometown of Summerlin, TN and hires his best friend's sister heroine, Roxanne aka Roxie Miller to do a major makeover on the place. Roxie has always had a crush on Robert but he always seemed unattainable since Robert was loyal to her brother, Colton ... but things change as their attraction grows. Robert is different after a woman tried to set him up on a sexual harassment charge so it time for Roxie to give him a makeover- literally and figuratively!
"Truly Everlasting" was such a heartwarming and steam story! Heroine, Felicia Madaris had always been a thorn in hero, Trask Elgin Maxwell's side .. and vice versa for that matter! She's a gold digger, twice divorced and dresses very risque! Things CAN change, though, well somethings CAN? Well Felicia is not the woman she used to be after an incident almost takes her son's life and she discovers that money is not everything. When Felecia reads her 4 year old son's letter to Santa, she needs help ... because Austin wants a father for Christmas till the New Year! Felecia's cousin, Clayton tells his best friend, Trask about the letter and guess who acts as as Austin's Daddy for the holiday?
In "Bound by Passion ",attorney Royce Parker has been crushing over Michelle Kincaid for too long and it's time to take a well deserved vakay! Michelle owns a traveling agency and Royce wants her to go on his vacation with him ....as a friend. Hold up... it's Not so simple because these two once had a one-night stand after Royce's best friend, Jordan's wedding to Michelle's sister, Dominique! And they both can't get that smexy night out of their minds!
All of these stories end in memorable HEA and are very vivid, steamy tales to boot!
So far I have only read Corey's Mountain. The Westmoreland Family is one of my favorites and the only story I hadn't read was Uncle Corey. I was fun the see him find his one true love Abby after all these years and to know that you are never to old be in love. Corey was a very passionate man and after years of loneliness he finds the only woman that was meant to be his and too step foot on Corey's Mountain. Abby did what her parents wanted and realized instantly that she made a mistake. Now no can stop them from being together. Wow still some hot & sexy love scenes. Corey was smart he took Abby up to his Mountain and never planned to let her go again.
The Makeover (Roxanne & Robert): 2 stars I wasn't really feeling the connection between this couple despite the childhood friends background and Roxanne's reasons for Robert's so-called 'makeover.'
Truly Everlasting (Madaris #7, Felicia & Trask): 4 stars I really liked Felicia and Trask. Their connection was more believable because they had appeared in other Madaris novels and had a childhood history. Felicia's son, Austin was so adorable and his relationship with Trask was so cute.
Bound by Passion (Michelle & Royce): 3 stars I liked Royce. Michelle's 'be in control at all times' attitude was a little tiring. Steamy scenes though.
This is an edition that is three books in one. I read it for the Madaris Family Saga story and after completing it I took the time to read the others . The other two stories are continuations of characters from her books, The Perfect Fit and Perfect Timing. I haven't read those books yet but, as they have been recently purchased, I will in the near future to get the back history of the characters. If you are a Brenda Jackson Fan, there isn't much that I need to say, I personally haven't read a Brenda Jackson book that I didn't absolutely love.
Essence of Desire ..... 3 books in 1. The Makeover, Truly Everlasting and Bound by Passion. All new reads to me (although they've been out a while). All great reads. All full of life and love.
Merged review:
I love Mrs. Jackson's books and was thrilled to read 4 new stories. The stories may have been new, but the characters were very familiar. I love second chance love stories and these did not disappoint me. Great reads!
This book has 3 stories in it just like Forever Mine, my favorite story of the 3 is story 2. The 2nd story story line is really good. I felt sorry for Felicia. I really liked Trask's character. I loved Felicia"s son. The scenes with Trask & Felicia's son were touching. I liked the ending. The other 2 stories were okay.
No matter what the season, Brenda Jack's heroes and heroine produce fireworks!! All of these stories are ice water worthy, and if you're not squirming in your seat with passion at the end of each novella, you need to go ahead and have the coroner pronounce you dead!! Well done, Brenda Jackson, very well done!!
It was good to finally read Felicia's story after reading all the other Madaris novels. I just wish it was a full story instead of a short. The other two stories were interesting as well. Can't wait to see Truly Everlasting the movie.
Four novellas featuring secondary characters from some of B renda's novels. Barbara Andrews & Peggy Morrison from. Her Little Black Book. Cathy Bristol from Tall, Dark Westmoreland and Abby Winters from Stone Cold Surrender. it was great reading their stories.
Three stories about love and passion. Robert Noble and Roxanne Miller in The Makeover. Royce Parker and Michelle Kincaid in Bound by Passion; and truly Everlasting featuring Felicia Madaris and Trask Maxwell.
I LOVE Brenda Jackson's books. Tis the Season....for Romance was especially refreshing to read, showing more mature characters and how finding love isn't only for the young. I'd like for Ms. Jackson to explore older romance in other books.
I loved all three stories in this group of stories. So excellent each story. I read one after another. Brenda Jackson is my favorite author. I love everything she has written😊😊☺
The short stories were great, better than I expected. They are so compelling, which makes for a fast read. These stories will set your soul on fire. I recommend this book for the mature romance reader.
Great READ, I enjoyed how the Arthur would tie each episode together without leading the reader guessing what happened to such and such. I will be trying her Westmoreland series next.
Great book, enjoyed it. Felicia and Trask, Robert and Roxie, Royce and Michelle all great stories. Glad that Brenda did follow up stories for the secondary characters.
Because I wanted to know how Barbra moved on with her life after her divorce and how Peggy found love a second time and how Cathy got Orin to stop fighting his feelings
