Key topics presented in clear, concise language. Straightforward, easy-to-use A-Z listing of over 7500 entries. 36 specially commissioned maps supplement the text. Over 40 tables and over 25 family trees list the members of important dynasties and monarchies. Cross-references.
It looks impressive, but beyond the (attempted) ambition of being a one-stop source for brief snippets of information, it's nothing to write home about. It serves its purpose.
An excellent historical resource complete with cross-references to related entries. I've had it on my shelf forever and used it extensively. Although admittedly it's become considerably less relevant with the advent of Google and Wikipedia etc. I still enjoy having the book to page through.
