This book comprised two stories rolled into one; Christmas Letters and Rainy Day Kisses. The latter was most predictable, and was in fact enormously clichéed. So I myself was surprised when I found myself enjoying Rainy Day Kisses most.

Christmas Letters proved to have a weak Romeo. I tried to picture him in my mind, but he came across as a gangly type of man trapped in a teenager's body. He didn't have enough chemistry with his girlfriend and future wife Katherine O'Hare.

Rainy Day Kisses was more vibrant. It simply oozed old time romances, with nary a text or cellphone around. I liked this couple better. They could have existed, although they wouldn't have such an unlikely rollercoaster beginning from the get go. Still Debbie Macomber, I grudgingly admit, is a good writer, as far as romance is involved.

This book was great. I have read many Christmas books this month, and this was the best (in my opinion).

I loved the plot. Dr. Jeffries wrote a book about raising children, and how he believes you should do away with Santa...When Katherine hears about this she rages. When they meet they laugh, argue, love and fight. The story was sweet, the characters were fun, and the little details would be sure to get you in the Christmas spirit if you weren't already. Also, some parts were very funny!

This was my first book from Debbie, and I enjoyed it. She writes beautifully. Also, this story was set on her Blossom Street, and this book definitely made me want to read that series!

A great feel good, cozy book to read.

Two heartwarming Christmas stories inside one book. I loved them both!
Christmas Letters....a very funny story. Katherine who is very opposed to her sister Zelda following the book Free Child with her twin nieces. They used to be normal kids until her sister started following the book. Now she wants no Christmas for the girls. Of course the author of the book just happens to live in Katherine's building. So she sets out to show him how wrong his book is and the sparks begin to fly between the two of them. How will it all end up? Read the book to find out.

Rainy Day Kisses another delightful and funny story. Susannah who only knows the corporate world and nothing about babies gets conned into watching her niece Michelle for a week-end so her sister and her husband could have a romantic getaway. Luckily she has a new neighbor Nate who seems to know how to handle babies and helps her out. Suddenly Susannah starts to think of family life and not so much about the business world. Read the book to see how it all turns out.

The first one is very good and I enjoyed it so much but the second one is too predictable. I knew from page 3 what was going to happen next and the heroine was too stupid to suit me. She should have kicked that arrogant bastard down the stairs even if he was a cookie millionaire.

Christmas Wishes
Christmas Letters/Rainy Day Kisses
By: Debbie Macomber
Fiction, Humor, Romance, Holidays, Christmas
The Queen of Christmas, Debbie Macomber, has done it again! Christmas Wishes is a combination of two of her previously published books Christmas Letters and Rainy Day Kisses.

Christmas Letters
Plus(es)-True Christmas gold
Katherine O’Connor (aka K.O) is writing holiday letters as an odd job. Therefore, she is stunned to receive a Christmas letter from her sister explaining that Christmas will be celebrated differently this year and that her five-year-old nieces will find out the truth about Santa.

Apparently, Wynn Jefferies, a child psychologist, has written a bestselling book about child rearing which talks about parents not inflicting fantasies on their children. K.O. is outraged by Wynn’s philosophy, especially when she finds out not only is he childless, but he is not even married. As K.O. becomes better acquainted with Wynn, she invites him to babysit her nieces together. When theory meets reality, let the hijinks ensue!

I adore this story! This humorous story made me laugh out loud and reminds me of the true spirit of the holidays. 5 stars

Rainy Day Kisses
It is Christmas time at Windy Day Toys, and Michelle Davidson has an intriguing story to tell her coworkers. She tells them that she is the reason that her Uncle Nate, owner of Windy Day Toys, and her Aunt Susannah, co-owner of Motherhood, Inc., got together.

Seventeen years ago, Susannah Simmons was a high-powered marketing director, and she lived to work. Out of the blue, her “earth mother” sister, Emily, implores Susannah to take care of her infant Michelle. Susannah tries to object in vein, and baby Michelle is dropped off at her place.

Clueless Susannah is helpless as Michelle puts up a vocal fuss that attracts the attention of her neighbor, Nate Townshend. He swoops in for the rescue, and Susannah soon discovers that Nate is her polar opposite and savors the joy life has to offer outside of work.

This is a sweet and tender story about the power of love. 4&1/2 Stars

Awards/Recognitions: Macomber has won numerous writing awards including being a New York Times Bestselling Author many times over. She is also involved in a number of charities.

Rainy Day Kisses:

When I started reading this, I felt like it was dated. I had thought this was a new story, but that it takes place 17 years ago, so I was pretty forgiving for a short amount of time….until I realized that this is a reprint and is not a new book at all.

Also, it was marketed as a Christmas book ~ and it’s not. I was very disappointed. The whole Christmas Eve thing was just thrown in there and it didn't even belong! The romance didn't even happen at Christmas time.

I really liked the character of Nate Townsend. He’s mischievous and always seemed to have something up his sleeve. He was a great contrast to the character of Susannah Simmons ~ who was completely uptight and needed someone like Nate to compliment her character.

I didn’t really like Susannah. She was uptight, buttoned-up, and had no sense of humor.

I also found myself rolling my eyes a lot and saying, “Oh, please!” Too much, actually. There was just something off on this one.

This was Okay (but only because it gave me a few laugh-out-loud moments). I used to love, love, love everything that Debbie Macomber wrote. Now, her stuff is hit or miss with me. This one was a miss. But, because it was included with a story of hers that I liked (Christmas Letters) I’m keeping it anyway.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Christmas Letters:
Debbie Macomber creates some of the best Christmas romances I’ve ever read. Watching her characters come together is often like watching magic and is a terrific holiday gift for the reader. I haven’t read any of the other Blossom Street books yet, but if their stories are anything like this one I know I’m in for at treat.
Katherine (known as K.O) is in her late 20’s and has just graduated from college with a PR degree. She works as a Medical Transcriptionist and also writes Christmas letters on the side in order to have steady income. Wynn is a psychologist who’s first published book is very popular. Unfortunately, K.O. doesn’t agree with Wynn on his theories of child rearing and they butt heads often.
I’d say this is between a Good and a Very Good read ~ I enjoyed it very much and it was a quick weekend read. I’m looking forward to reading more of the Blossom Street series.
Ok, I was drawn in by the charming cover; sweet. Christmas Letters, the first of the two short novels that make up the book has a catchy premise: an under-employed, recent graduate supplements her income writing creative Christmas newsletters for non-wordsmiths, at $150 a pop. Great idea! But the novel stalls, it's silly, simplistic and unbelievable. I didn't bother with the second selection. So much for the charming cover.
I was pleasantly surprised this book is two seperate holiday stories in one book.
I needed an uplifting book to curb my isolated curve.
Ive always enjoyed Debbie Macomber's books and this one doesn't disappoint. This Christmas Wishes is two:
Christmas Letters , a charming humorous story,Katherine single and is going to prove her sister's child phsychologist hero, Wynn Jeffries wrong.
How can this childless unmarried psychologist be a top book seller and she is raged to see her sister follow his beleiefs in child rearing especially to have her twin neices not beleive in Santa.
He is not only handsome, but lives in her apt bldg as well and her sister Zelda is dying to get an autograph.
This story will have you laughing and rooting for a love story to enfold.
Rainy Day Kisses,the second story , has nothing to do with Christmas. A good romance , quick read .
Michelle, now grown, is telling her story how her parents met and the creation of Windy Day Toys . Susannah, a single career girl and Wate has a secret that Susannah discovers.
Unmarried Wate also has his knack at hushing screaming baby Michelle .
This story is delightful and short and sweet. I enjoy short quick reads and this one was a nice surprise when I found it contained two stories in one book.
Review originally published on my blog: Snuggle Up and Read (http://nurseatkins.blogspot.com/2010/...)
I enjoyed reading this Christmas book by Debbie Macomber. It contains two short novels, both of which were fun. I read this book for my Holiday Challenge, which is a perfect way for me to start the Christmas season.
Christmas Letters was a fun novel with many different laughs in it. K.O., the main character, has a small side business writing humorous Christmas letters. She made me laugh out loud. Some of those comments truly made me giggle. However, I found almost all of the characters to be too strong. The characters could have used more depth, and so I did not understand their actions and they seemed to portray the extremes of their particular characteristics. It caused me to be annoyed with the novel at times. However, overall it was a cute story, and one that teaches the lessons of compromise and not judging a person too quickly.
Rainy Day Kisses I found to be quite cute. The novel is based around Susannah, a corporate career woman, and Nick, her neighbor, as Susannah attempts to take care of her 9-month-old niece Michelle. It was a typical romance novel. I enjoyed the characters more than Christmas Letters, though I was annoyed by Susannah's stubborness to judge a person by his cover not the person himself. Of course, it had a happy ending that tied things up beautifully. And really it was a cute, quick read without major depth in it.
Ultimately, I gave Christmas Wishes a 3/5 because I enjoyed it, but I probably won't read it again. I love Christmas, and I read it purely for the Christmas aspect. I found some things annoying at times, but it is an enjoyable quick read. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance and chick-lit.
I thoroughly enjoyed both stories included in this book. They were both lighthearted and touching and perfect to get you in the Christmas Spirit. They were both short, easy reads!
I believe that both stories really has great character development and story lines that kept you interested and involved and rooting for the main character! They were both charming stories with great but realistic romance.
If you looking for a breathe of fresh air and something to get you in the Christmas spirit, then look no further!
Christmas Letters: This book was full of awkwardness. First of all, Katherine being called K.O. annoyed me so much. I know it's petty, but the letters just do not roll off the tongue like AJ or DJ does. I get it, the novel is Christmas Letters, she writes Christmas letters, her name is letters. But it was just a terrible idea.
Then there's Wynn who has lived in the same complex as Katherine for about the same amount of time and somehow they have never run into each other before.
LaVonne thinks she has these psychic powers and predicts Katherine and Wynn getting together. Katherine hates Wynn before she even meets him because of his terrible viewpoint on raising children in which he writes a book about. Somehow, women all over the world thinks he's a miracle worker and follow his book.
LaVonne sets the two up on a date and it's basically love at first date. Totally lame. Wynn hates the fact that she disagrees on his ideas of raising children and vice versa. Yet, they still love each other. It just makes no sense.
Rainy Day Kisses
After reading the first novel, I wasn't expecting much from the second. That's why I was shocked to find how wonderful Rainy Day Kisses was. It's a simple, short, romantic read and beautifully done.
Susannah's life revolves around her career. She has no time for friendships or relationships. Things drastically change when her sister needs her to babysit her 9 month old daughter. Susannah doesn't know the first thing about caring for a baby. On the first night, Susannah tries calming her niece with ni success. That's when her neighbor, Nate, comes over.
Nate has no job and bounces from one adventure to the next. It's clear he has money, but that's all Susannah knows. She sees a wonderful man with zero ambition. He's wonderful with Michelle and the two bond over the baby. Their bonding becomes more serious. Susannah, who never saw herself finding a husband, catches herself falling in love with Nate. Nate is head over heels in love with Susannah and taking his time with her.
She finds out about his past and how Nate has been keeping secrets from her. She decides to call off the relationship, but finds herself thinking about him constantly. She finds herself donating all of her savings for a man she never thought she would have.
Liked the first story, but hated the second one. To start with, Rainy Day Kisses was soooo cheesy. It was almost embarrassingly cheesy. What was more annoying than that, though, was how dated it was. Although the copywrite for this story says 2015, I’m not buying it. It seemed to me as if they took an existing story that had been written and maybe sitting on a shelf for decades, then added an intro to make it seem as if the whole story was a flashback in efforts to explain the dated references. For example, it mentioned “Gentlemen’s Quarterly” magazine a few times...which, by the way, was rebranded as GQ in 1961. There were also several instances where the baby was put down to sleep on her stomach and covered with a blanket, when the Back to Sleep campaign began in 1994. May seem like I’m nitpicking but the huge number of dated references kept taking me out of the story. Ultimately though, I’d be okay with a dated story, but that on top of the fact that it was packaged as a Christmas and Blossom Street Anthology, when there was no mention of Christmas OR Blossom Street just made it seem lazy and began to frustrate me the more answering machines and other dated and sexist references I came across. I did enjoy the plot and characters in the first story, Christmas Letters, and found a lot of parts cute and funny, so that was the saving grace for me. Overall 3 stars; solo, I’d give Christmas Letters 4 stars and Rainy Day Kisses 1 or 2.
Christmas Wishes was in the local free library so I figured I would give it a try. While it is two stories in one only the first story really feels like it had an Christmas aspect to it.
Christmas Letters
Kathrine otherwise known as KO to her friends loves Christmas, in fact she loves it so much she writes other people's Christmas letters as a side job. To KO's horror her sister announces she is following the works of a famous child phycologist who suggests Santa gets buried under a sleigh. Having no doubt that the phycologist is a monster who hates Christmas KO is horrified when her neighbor introduces her to Wynn and the two form a friendship where sparks fly but little does KO know that Wynn is the famous phycologist who wants to bury Santa.
Rainy Day Kisses
This felt like a major stretch to add in the Christmas aspect, despite the story being told on Christmas Eve nothing else relates to Christmas. Susannah is happy with her life of being single, not having kids, and climbing the corporate ladder at her job. All that changes when she agrees to babysit for her niece, knowing nothing about taking care of a child she is saved when her handsome neighbor Nate comes over to help quiet the crying baby. Soon Susannah is rethinking the no babies and no dating rules as her life is turned head over heels.
Both stories are cute with feel good moments. I did enjoy Christmas Letters more. Typical Debbie Macomber writing, light and easy to read.
This is 2 novella length clean romances from DM. This book was in my mom's large book collection. Since DM was an author I've never read before I took the Christmas books.
Christmas Letters - copyright 2006. I gave this 2 stars. The story wanted to be a rom com, but ended up dumb IMO. I've never been a fan of people without children giving parents advice.
Christmas is in season!
Rainy Day Kisses - copyright 1990. This is supposed to be DM fans favorite short story. I wasn't that impressed. The hero keeps a big secret from the heroine & is surprised when she takes it badly.
The heroine embarrasses herself by offering the hero a job thinking he's unemployed. He is, but it's complicated. I really don't know why the hero is in love with this stick up her butt woman.
Christmas is really not in this at all.
There's a cute baby involved (the heroine's niece).
Overall, it was readable, but I didn't like it much. 2 stars.
I'm thinking DM just isn't my kind of author. I won't be going out of my way to read anymore of her books.
Christmas Letters:
K.O. ( no I don't get that nickname either just go with it) has a sister who read a self help book and decides to turn her life upside down. Including getting rid of Santa! As fate would have it when K.O. meets the author of this book, sparks fly. They are perfect for each other except their opinions on child rearing. Wynn tries to explain why he feels this way. ( Although seriously how does a 10 year old boy with no name come up with Wynn?) Still, K.O. feels the need to prove him wrong. That proving breaks them up. Thankfully Christmas is a time to forgive.
Rainy Day Kisses
So this story has nothing to do with Christmas. It really is a sweet story though. It waa pretty early on that I guessed Nate's big secret but it was fun watching Susannah find out. Has this been a hallmark movie? I think it would make a really funny one. Especially the bachelor auction. Michelle yelling Da-da was hilarious!
A lovely book about Angels who creatively find answers to people's prayers. In the first part of this book - The Christmas Angels, Debbie writes about having hope in your life when things have gone wrong in your life and how with a little love and a prayer request your life can change for the better. Where Angels Go is the second story in this book and once again the three mischievous angels are out to answer three simple (or maybe not) prayer requests. This story shows how important family is and how you never know how special they can be until you look beyond the obvious. Such lovely stories of love and kindness in a tricky world. Loved it!
I've had this book on my shelf because one of the stories, Christmas Letters, was part of the Blossom Street Series by Debbie Macomber. I've read it before but it had been so long I couldn't remember it and I am rereading the series starting from the beginning. I thought Christmas Letters was the better story of the two in this book and enjoyed the humor in it. The other story, Rainy Day Kisses was okay but I am not big on romance stories.
This is actually two short stories - Christmas Letters and Rainy Day Kisses - cute stories - nice endings.... Christmas letters is about a single lady Katherine O'Connor who accidentally meets an author who wrote a book on child rearing.... her sister lives by this book and Katherine doesn't believe in it at all... there is a happy middle of the road.
Rainy Day Kisses is about Susannah who is single and sworn off a married with kids life until the weekend that she babysits her niece with assistance from her never met neighbor. That weekend changes her life.
This was a fun read. No "real" surprises but a feel-good journey.
Christmas Letters was a bit of a frustration. I always want characters to step up and make the points quickly. But this would not make for much of a story. I always like a happy ending.
Rainy Day Kisses is my kind of story. I couldn't have asked for a better ending. I was a little put off how Susannah was totally melted by Nate's touch. It was a bit much. In the end it felt everything was as it should be!
Sweet Christmas Romances
If you are looking for a sweet romance to read by the light of the Christmas tree this is your book. Consisting of 2 novellas, "Christmas Wishes" by Debbie Macomber provides enough substance to keep you interested and plenty of romance to keep you amused. This is the Christmas equivalent of a summer beach read - light and airy with a happy ending.
I saw this in a Little Free Library and thought it might be a fun read over the holidays. I was wrong.
The first story was super frustrating because the premise wasn't believable. The guy never says he wants to do away with Christmas; he says he doesn't believe in lying to kids (ie Santa). And he seriously says "A beautiful name for a beautiful woman." Ack! Then there's all the horrible/ridiculous stuff the the neighbor and the dad...
The second story features a woman who gains two pounds and jumps on the treadmill because she knows the guy won't want someone who gains weight that fast. God, all that stuff about the two pounds was so annoying and pointless to the story. And sad. Way to reinforce what's wrong with our culture.
Debbie Macomber never fails to entertain me when I read her books. There were really 2 "books" in this one. The first is CHRISTMAS LETTERS and RAINY DAY KISSES. I don't know how I got this book, my sister said I had loaned it to her, but I hadn't read it before! Debbie's books are good to read after reading many historical fiction books and even some thrillers. They bring me joy.
