"People will not negotiate with you unless they feel you have the power to help them or hurt them…"
“When you appear unconcerned or uninterested in the success of the negotiation, you will often unnerve the other party and induce concessions from him or her before you have even taken a position or made an offer.”
“The person who most wants the negotiation to succeed has the least bargaining power… Skilled negotiators develop the art of appearing polite but uninterested, as if they have many offers, all as attractive as the situation under discussion.”
“No matter how badly you want something, you should appear neutral and detached. The more important something is to you, the more important it is for you to appear unemotional, unaffected, and unreadable. Don’t smile or appear interested in any way. An attitude of mild boredom is best. The more you can make the other party want it, the better deal you can get.”
“Make a list of all the benefits of dealing with you. Organize the list by priority, from the most persuasive benefit, to the least persuasive… ”
“The first party to make a concession is the party who wants the deal the most… Most purchasers and sellers are aware of this and are prepared to take advantage of it.… Early concessions are a sign of eagerness… Be careful.”
“Small concessions on small issues enable you to ask for large concessions on large issues.”
“You never know the final price and terms until you walk away…. The power is on the side of the person who can walk away without flinching… Walking out of a negotiation is just another way of negotiating.”
“A common tactic, when teams are negotiating, is for one or more of the key players on one team to get up angrily, storm out of the room and vow never to come back. The remaining party will be friendly and accommodating, as if really on the side of the other people. Another version of this is called ‘Good-guy/Bad-guy.’ In this version there will be 2 negotiators, or interrogators in police investigations, one of whom will be hard and demanding, while the other will be friendly and accommodating. One will be unreasonable, while the other guy will try to make peace by getting you to concede a little to placate the bad guy. It’s all part of the game, and you need to be aware of it…”
"There are 10 types of power you can use to influence… :" ----------------------------------------
1. Indifference “The party who appears to be the most indifferent to whether or not the negotiation succeeds often has power over the other party…
2. Scarcity “…The item you are selling is in scarce supply, and others want it, so that the item will soon be sold anyway…they may not be able to get it at all…”
3. Authority “When you have an impressive title or you look as though you have the authority to make decisions, this image alone intimidates the other person and allows you to get the better deal… When you look like a million dollars, and the other party, especially if he or she is not as well-dressed… will be much more responsive to your demands.”
4. Courage “You create the perception of courage by being willing to take risks… put yourself on the line for this deal, or walk away from it.”
5. Commitment “… Finding a way to overcome any obstacle to agreement, you radiate a load of power that often causes people to cooperate with you…”
6. Expertise “A person who is perceived as an expert in any situation has power over those who do not feel as knowledgeable… The more research and preparation you’ve done in advance, the more knowledgable you sound.”
7. Knowledge of the Needs of the Other “…Find out everything you can about the other person before you begin negotiating.”
8. Empathy “Every study of top negotiators shows that they are highly empathetic, low-key, solution-oriented, and pleasant individuals. They make it clear from the beginning that they really care about finding a solution that everyone can live with.”
9. Rewarding or Punishing “When the other person perceives that you have the capacity to help or hurt him or her, the other party is usually far more cooperative…”
10. Investment “…Make it clear that you have invested a lot in the issue under consideration…”
What would I do without my favorite author Brian Tracy? He is one of the most inspirational writers I've ever experienced! I couldn't imagine my life without his words inspiring me as I move along in the journey that has been my life. His words inspire me to work harder, and get more done. His words motivate me to do everything that I do with excellence. His words inspire me to think about things in other ways, to pay attention to the opportunities that come up for me and making the right decisions about that particular opportunity. Every time I read one of his books, it makes me think about my life and what I am doing that I shouldn't be doing. It makes me think of the things that I should be doing. The one thing that I could do that would most benefit my business. I truly believe that if you follow everything in his books, you will become truly successful in life.
Tracy packs into this book a huge amount of fundamental wisdom about success in business. The laws are categorized into topics like personal finance, negotiating, goal setting, and time management. He explains each law concisely, often with a brief story or example. He continuously pushes the reader to action by presenting techniques for applying each law immediately. I find Tracy's writing style and word choice to be extremely clear and precise. This list of 100 points could have become overwhelming, but it didn't because of the way he organized and presented it.
I can say three different things about this book: - Very cheap (no pictures, just plain text) - Very simple ideas and thoughts, none of them are new or somehow breaking-news - But the effect while reading is astonishing: the thoughts inspired me really, in my mind I transformed those thoughts to my own perspective and it really helped me to make changes to my own projects.
I almost quit in the first two chapters! The author is one of those painfully optimistic people who peddles the notion that if you believe in it, it will happen.
The opening, and then the beginning of each chapter is a pep talk assuring the reader how good/solid/effective the ideas are.
He uses a list of 100 Unbreakable Laws. These are old saws. They are convenient ways to break down each category. As he gets into each law, the sugary optimism is seasoned with reality. Reading carefully, I realized that he is a serious businessman. He doesn't deceive himself into ignoring problems, but faces them and deals with them. He even acknowledges that some problems are not solvable, but are just the way things work.
The best chapter, ironically, is the chapter on Sales. He uses hard figures to show that most sales is prep-work and most sales don't close. He offers a list of tools to help close a sale.
If you are getting into your own business, or joining a company, you might find this book useful.
States the obvious, but then again the obvious many times does need to be restated. All of the laws are abstract of course. Good for reference. I will keep in library.
Wow praise for the book “The 100 ABSOLUTELY UNBREAKABLE LAWS or BUSINESS SUCCESS” by Brian Tracy
This is absolutely an excellent handbook for those who aspire to succeed in their journey of business career. No doubt it is comprehensive, complete and all-rounded for any reader who determines in pursuing the success.
The author highlighted that These are indispensable laws and principles on the patterns of human behaviour And it’s practical, timeless and is proven laws. By maximizing life, living and practicing (any of) these laws consistently, without violating any of these laws, one will enjoy the fruits of success. Success is predictable as we know more (knowledge) today. Thoughts are creative, you become what you think about. Thoughts and feelings are changing. Whatever you truly believe with feeling, becomes your reality. Your outer world is a reflection of your inner world. Your outer world corresponds with your dominance pattern of thinking. (Law of Correspondence)
4 Basic Laws of Cause & Effects that lays the foundation for all of other law are: 1.Belief 2.Expectation 3.Attraction 4.Correspondance
And the author round off the book with Law of Time Management: The rules of Business Success are quite simple and easy to apply, with the 4 Ds 1.Desire 2.Decision 3.Discipline 4.Determination – to overcome all setbacks
There is no limit to quality of what you can accomplish in your life, except the limit you placed in yourself by your own thinking.
10 selected laws: 1. The Law of Cause and Effect - "Everything happens for a reason. For every effect, there is always a specific cause." 2. The Law of Direction - "Successful people have a clear sense of purpose and direction in every area of their lives." 3. The Law of Responsibility - "You are completely responsible for everything you are and for everything you become and achieve." 4. The Law of Overcompensation - "If you always do more than you are paid for, you will always be paid more than you are getting now." 5. The Law of Applied Effort - "The harder you work, the luckier you get." 6. The Law of Persistence - "Your ability to persist in the face of setbacks and disappointments is a measure of your belief in yourself and your ability to succeed." 7. The Law of Creativity - "Every advance in human life begins with an idea in the mind of a single person." 8. Parkinson’s Law - "Expenses always rise to meet income." 9. The Law of Differentiation - "A product or service must have a competitive advantage or an area of excellence that enables it to stand out from its competitors in some way if it is to succeed in a competitive marketplace." 10. The Law of Optimism - "A true entrepreneur radiates the confidence that all difficulties can be overcome and all goals can be attained."
The book gives 100 beautiful principles or laws that a company can implement easily to attain amazing business success. Brian Tracy is one of my favorite authors who gives amazing strategies that can drastically transform both the people and the organization they build. I couldn't stop wondering how Brian Tracy was able to pick these pearls of wisdom that can change ordinary people to world changers. The chapters are divided into laws of life, laws of success, laws of business, laws of leadership, laws of money, laws of selling, laws of negotiating, and laws of time management. The book is immensely useful to set the mind if one wants to become a business leader.
Read, reread, it eat, regurgitate it and chew it's cud. Meditate on this book and do not fail to consult it daily to learn from it and draw wisdom and motivation from its premise (more importantly consult and meditate on your bible more). Brian Tracy has very motivating books, and this one is at the very top. As the title implies, it can be a culmination of the laws of success in business and life as a whole, 100 in all, with clear, concise explanations and how one can apply it immediately to one's everyday life.
4.5/5 This was a nice synopsis of general business and personal practices. Many of the key laws in this book are entirely focused books by Tracy and other authors. His laws of time management was a synopsis of ‘Eat that Frog’ and I’m sure the other key laws have been extrapolated in his other books as well. Regardless it was a nice, fast lead into the main points that lead to business success…from negotiation, sales, time management, leadership, and more. It’s worth the read to either get an idea of what to dive into further or get a refresher on things you’ve read in the past.
The book is a good list of a 100 "laws" in business. Most are insightful and useful. You might have come across them in other books as well. Nevertheless, this is alright, as the idea of this books is not to be unique, but comprehensive.
The only portion I found contradictive was the part of negotiations. Some of the laws I think are difficult to put together in the same package.
Success is a choice as long as you are disciplined with how you use your time.
Totally a run of the mill business book, but perhaps that's Tracy's super power. The advice is generic, but useful. I had a boss who used to work out listening to B Tracy's lectures, and I get that. The book is perfect for passive listening. To boil the core ideas into a 45 sec YouTube would be do-able
This is one of those few books that’s more of an encyclopedia for personal and professional development. I wish I had had access to this thirty years ago. I’ll be referencing the golden nuggets in this great work for years to come.
Довольно устаревшая книга, и многие законы, скажем так, противоречивы. Встречаются и фактические ошибки, которые ставят под сомнение остальные постулаты автора. Не закончил.
