*this review covers both books #9 and #10, as the series is based on dual book story-lines*

I was both pleasantly surprised and extremely pleased to finish these 2 volumes of 'Les Legendaires' because so many of the criticisms I had had for it in earlier volumes were not only addressed, but, for the most part, also brilliantly executed. While these 2 books are the first half of a quartet know as 'Le Cycle D'Anathos' (involving numbers 11 and 12 as well), they hold up really well on their own. In number 9 we not only continue to get more backstory on the main characters (in this case, done in a much more meaningful and mature way for Razzia), but peripheral characters are brought back into the main story-line, and treated as fully fleshed-out persons, rather than random story accessories that are just as easily discarded as they were introduced. Number 10 not only offers great fight sequences, but also numerous unexpected twists. The art is on point (especially when dealing with the adult versions of the characters) and I didn't really notice any 'lazy panels' like I had in previous numbers. Most importantly though, the story is not only engaging, but very much makes you want to continue reading -and not just because of the way number 10 finishes on a cliffhanger, but more so because all the elements leading up to it have created characters that not only demand your attention, but also your empathy.
Really happy I decided to stick with this series in the end, and very much hoping that the upcoming numbers live up to the precedent these two have set.

Where is the line between doing good for good, and doing bad for good ? When does the end justify the means, and how do you explain it to others? And so we have the new question for the Legendaries, who have just discovered that one of them will become the host for Anathos – a god who wants to be the “mastergod” of the entire universe! What’s more, is it possible to reconcile past evil actions? And is it possible to change the destiny written in the book of the past, present, and future: the Alystory?

And finally, a little humorous questions which we might have been asking ourselves since the beginning of the series, thanks to Ténébris: “Did the Jovénia accident also downsize your brain?” (page 13. I also ask myself this question from time to time, lol…)
