Draycott Abbey #5

Season of Wishes

Rate this book
Beautiful American heiress Jamee Night feels someone watching her: someone who knows every move she makes. And she knows firsthand what fear is, since she survived a kidnapping when she was just a girl. But Jamee has worked too hard to lose her confidence now. She has come to Scotland on a mission of hope, and to return to the land of her ancestors.

Jamee would never knowingly accept protection but when she meets Ian McCall, tenth laird of Glenlyle, she is unaware that the proud Highlander is a top kidnapping expert secretly working on her behalf. But there is no mistaking the quiet strength and steely confidence which pulls her inexorably toward his powerful, sheltering embrace and wakens within her a desperate yearning --- as well as intense memories of an ancestor who lived, loved and made three solemn wishes generations before.

Now, here in the windswept hills, with Jamee's courage, Ian's trust, and a bit of otherworldly help from the irrepressible spirits of Draycott Abbey, miracles can take place --- and even ancient wishes really can come true.

Why did I leave this one in my To Be Read pile for years? I enjoyed it....a mix of romance and whimsey. Will look for others in the series which I might have stashed somewhere or another. Ian and Jamee are interesting main characters in a plot that combines the present with the past. Now to go back and find Nicholas and Kara's story!

Only read this because my mother in law recommended and gifted it. I was desperate for a book! A quick, lightweight, incredibly shallow and predictable book full of glistening hair and boobs, tight engorged trousers, lust at first sight etc etc. I am clearly not a fan of Romance novels or from another planet...

Another novel in the Draycott Abbey series - we see the paranormal primarily in the presence of an Abbey ghost and his cat, but otherwise there isn't really any paranormal happenings. As in every story thus far, Jamie and Ian have an instant attraction/connection that sort of propels them together but they fight it as long as they can. Gotta have some angst, right? And, as usual, things end in a showdown with the villain and the angst between the H and h is drawn out as long as possible. Cameos of previous characters included as well. Although it seems to be formula now, it works. The characters have chemistry and some steamy love scenes, the action and suspense keep me turning the page and I like seeing how previous characters are doing. It's a good book (actually the whole series is pretty good).

This is a great story if you want to see the heroine grow. She overcomes obstacles and in the time change I had a hard time putting the book down. In the past she is faced with some hard decisions that actually help her deal with overcoming kidnapping trauma. There are questions I have after reading the book and that is a good thing. Keep me guessing. In this series it so far is the most nail bitting.

Any of the Draycott novels are excellent pleasure reads. Her female protagonists are always strong characters who manage to overcome their adversities, and Jamie is no exception. Romance aside, she is a strong character that readers can identify with. There is the odd syrupy moment or remark, but the rest of the novel makes those moments forgivable.

Jamee and Ian's story. Ian is a security expert in kidnappings. James's brother have uncovered a plot to kidnap her again. They enlist Ian who is reluctant as he is losing his sight. Together the flush out the culprit and heal an old wound from the past.
The bears are here.
