Charlotte Blackwell, author of The Embrace Series, is delighted to have the opportunity to follow her dreams of writing. She would love to share a little bit about herself with you now. Charlotte was born in October of 1976. On the day of her birth, Charlotte's father was racing stock cars, while her two older sisters watched from the stands as their father crashed through the wall of the racetrack. Within moments, the stock car he was driving came back through the wall, and he won the race. He took his two daughters and hurried to the hospital for the birth of his third daughter, Charlotte. Raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Charlotte enjoyed swimming, singing (although not so great at it) and writing her thoughts down. She never shared her passion for writing with anyone, and it got put on the back burner. As Charlotte grew, she found a new passion in medicine. She became the athletic trainer for her high school men's basketball team. Helping the team through their injuries are some of her best memories as a teen. After the birth of her first daughter, Jorden, Charlotte moved to Calgary, Alberta where she returned to college for her practical nursing certificate. During her schooling, Charlotte became pregnant with her second daughter, Shawnee. Due to complications, Charlotte was put on bed rest and had to step away from school. Shawnee was born, but was not breathing. The staff worked to resuscitate the small baby, and succeeded. Charlotte returned to school only six weeks later and completed her course. She began working with children, and eventually in the special care nursery for ill and pre-term babies. Charlotte and James finally decided to get married in 2005 and completed their family with a son, Lucas, in 2006. Lucas was born six weeks early and had three surgeries by one month old. Today, all three of their children are happy, healthy and very active. Charlotte and James live with their children and their many animals, just outside of Calgary, Alberta. They cherish every moment they have together as a family, and hope to soon travel the world. James and the children have been great supporters of Charlotte from day one, and continue to cheer her on along the way. Charlotte has a strong passion for young adult novels, especially those in the paranormal or dark fantasy genres. As she continues to work on The Embrace Series, Charlotte is also working on a mainstream romance. She will continue to update this site with her work and what is next, and she thanks you all for your support and encouragement.

Immortal Embrace is a story about a girl name Sophia Pierce who was tragically turned into a vampire. When she was embraced by her new vampire family, she found hope and the support she needed to move on. Living a very long life can be a bit boring for a teenager, especially when you don’t have many friends. But soon enough, she bumps into a mortal, Nathanial, who utterly takes her breath away. Her thoughts are consumed by him and she wonders why she is drawn to him besides the fact that he smells delicious. Lucky for her, Nathanial is head over heels in love with her and accepts her for who she is.
Immortal Embrace was enjoyable and I was hooked from chapter one. There are many wonderful characters, but I found myself attached to Sophia and her family. This heartwarming story will pull you in as you read about Sophia, who wants to be a normal teenager, but can’t. Though a vampire, she tries to found her place in life. She is also grateful for all that she has. I highly recommend this book to all the young adult readers.
Her scream rips through the entire house, as the family runs to the horrific source, the wailing cuts right through to my very core.
And so, with a scream, it begins: Charlotte Blackwell’s masterpiece of adverbial sodomy. In these pages paper thin characters Instantly, Suddenly, quietly, Reluctantly, softly explore the boring side of teen romance and…vampirism? Magic?
To quote Charlotte: “How do I explain it to her without letting the cat out of the bag?”
Sadly, the cat is already out of the bag. Charlotte let it out herself, suddenly and with a flourish of some of the most painfully poor writing written badly I have ever, ever-ly had the displeasure to read. The cat in question being Charlotte’s dark secret: She can’t write.
But enough already. Here is all you need to see. Below are three sentences taken from this awful lump of feces. Read them. If you enjoy the writing, then hell, spend the 5.99 and consider it money spent wisely. If, however, you find yourself wondering if Charlotte can even speak English then save yourself now and ignore this (and the other) turds floating the the Charlotte Blackwell bowl.
“Printing off a picture of Nathanial for myself, and I tuck it in my bag.”
“I will admit to my brother’s stunning appearance, but enough is enough.”
"Everyone seems curious because everyone knew his goal, but the way he follows you around like a lost puppy is kind of throwing a few people off,” she explains.
As a side note: Did you happen to notice how many reviewers failed to finish this fine work? Toilet paper, but don’t wipe with it, you might catch a disease.
Today is the best day of my life. Finally I met Charlotte face to face! it was sooo unexpected. Normaly ppl dont come to Calgary and finally I met one of my most Fav Author. Charlotte is an amazing person as well. Also! I personaly think shes really pretty!
When I first read the synopsis I couldn't wait to read it. But when I got it the cover looked very cheap, with the writing being very blurry.
I found it very difficult to read due to its style of writing. It was very uncomfortable. It lacked emotion and it wasn't very conversational when the characters were interacting, it wasn't believable. A lot of the same things were being repeated on numerous occasions for example, Sophia ranting that she cant be near Nate.... I cant be near him, I'm a monster...... Yeah, yeah we get it already!! The authors attempt of being humorous was also a let down. I didn't find any of the so called funny comments made between the characters to be amusing at all.
The story was hard to enjoy also as I felt I was just rereading Twilight. Yes, there was differences but the initial story is the same. The story was also very unrealistic. You want to be able to believe something like this could happen but I couldn't. What parent in their right mind would allow their sons new girlfriend whom they just met stay overnight with him in the hospital while they would go home... Why would the parents go home in the first place?! Their son is in the hospital!! Sophia should have been able to sense he was a vampire... So much for heightened senses! And lets not forget the Christmas gift. A car!! Letting someone else buy your son a car and be okay with it? It just made no sense to me at all.
The build up to the "something tragic happens and blood is spilled" scene is complete rubbish... Come on, I want some action, not some stupid crappy written stabbing.
I'm being very generous by giving this book 2 stars. I'm only giving it two as it managed to keep me some what entertained by wanting to see the comparisons with other vampire novels.
Here are some comparisons I noticed the Immortal Embrace have with others of the vampire genre.
Twilight
- the vampire needs to stay away from their human love because they are stupid, broody and believes they are a monster - they share similar powers such as being telepathic, psychic, empathic - there are two vampire doctors - they drink animal blood - they live far away from the locals and in an area surrounded by forest - they boyfriend in annoyingly romantic (at least Edward had class) - has an attraction to the mates blood sort of like a singer - the vampires have some type of venom - their eyes change colour due to hunger
Vampire Diaries (I'm going off the TV show.. have yet to read the books)
- they have jewelery that allows them to be in the sun - they can eat and certain things help to reduce the blood cravings
EDIT: So I'm changing this to 1 star... three years can change a persons taste and generosity.
The book is good, but there was a few disadvantages. The language of the book seem to be lacking. Blackwell's writing can be a bit irritating and it seems as though she may have rushed up writing the book and it did seem the dialogue was not legit. Blackwell's style of writing was like the other book i read by Lanzarotta, i think if the writing was more clear, conversational and emotional, the book would of been really amazing.
The things is love about this book is the first person. I'm a fan of novels having POVs. I loved the characters in the book especially the Pierce family. Charlotte made a great plot and i love the couples in the Pierce family. I wish Blackwell will write more about Caspian in the sequels. His character amazed me the most, i just want more of him.
Sophie Pierce is a vampire who and has suffered since her brother left for a couple of decades. When her family moves to Wenham, her family tells them to return to high school and to protect their recently new sister, Danika. During school, she bumps into a guy, whom to be her soul-mate, Nate and discovers her life is about to change. This book is about Sophie's life, finding romance and meaning of destiny.
To be honest, this book has similar aspects to the Twilight Saga and Vampire Diaries. The book is enjoyable but there's no need to compare it to Twilight or Vampire Diaries. I'm sure Twilight fans would love this book in-exception for the style of writing.
Immortal Embrace is not like a Twilight movie or book. There are more than just vampires, there are witches as well. The author did research of places as most authors don't. The book held me to the edge of my seat and I finished it the day I got it. It was nice to see that there were more than just vampires, but with the witches it give it more pizazz. The following of Sophia and Nate was understandable because of what Sophia saw her brother do to someone he loved and Sophia trying to resist love with someone that was meant to be with her as a soulmate made it more exciting to see her resist the love she was beginning to feel for Nate but not wanting to go thru what her brother did. It's a five star book and deserves more. Can't wait for the entire series as I have followed this series. I think the book was well written and kudos on excellent writting.
I was chosen as a teen test reader prior to publication and... wow! I read this book in 6 hours and I just couldn't put it down! This book made the characters come to life and it felt as if I was watching a movie of it in my head and honestly I liked it better then twilight!
I recommend this book to young adults, teens, adults and really just anyone who like vampire romance and it even throws in a little bit of witches for you. SO, if your like me and like the shows charmed, vampire diaries, ect I bet you will LOVE this book as well.
"Immortal Embrace" by Charlotte Blackwell is a great effort by a new author that combines Vampires, witchcraft, suspense and romance - all for young adults. Sophia is a Vampire moving to a new school with her family after her brother accidentally killed his girlfriend by greedily drinking her blood. With some magic they are able to live amongst the mortals in the daylight and lead seemingly normal lives. A teenager and condemned to an eternal life rather than blessed with it Sophia falls for Nathaniel, a mortal. Sophia has been embraced a long time ago, [i.e. turned into a vampire] and it seems that she not enjoying her life until she meets Nathaniel. Now that she is in love she has to face the challenges of trusting her love and her conflicting feelings as a vampire, she has to make new friends and stay safe. While there are some minor stylistic issues in this book, Blackwell does one thing very well and that is to show us the fragile mind of a teenager trapped in a tough world, a girl that has the same issues as all the normal and mortal girls and to whom her magic and her powers are more of a threat than a gift. I loved the sensitive and empathetic way in which the author brings the mind of Sophia to life and how well she portrays the romance between her and Nathaniel.
A great story of vampires coming to age. It's moving and heart warming. The characters are people you take into your heart and keep them there. Charlotte Blackwell's first story in the Embrace series is a great beginning and I see this series becoming one that adults as well as teens will read over and over.
Sophia was turned into a vampire over 100 years ago. Nathaniel is human, they are totally attracted to each other! There are witches, bad vamps, good vamps and a great storyline!
This immortal family of vampires are very devoted to the well being of their extended family members. The younger members are sent back to high school to help the newly turned Danika adjust to living as a human. On their first day of high school, Sophia meets her human soul mate Nathaniel. This story is her struggle to fully accept her soul mate and whatever fate has intended. A good start to this vampire family saga.

If you like YA vampire fiction, you'll love this book. I enjoyed the characters as they are very true to how I felt as a teen. The reluctance to love and friendships, the sibling rivalry all adds to this story. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I finished this one in one weekend. Reading Immortal Embrace pulled me right into the story. It moves smoothly and plays out like a movie when reading. Well done.
It had been 30 years since her brother left and she is still missing him but her life is about to change. She meets her soul mate. Follow her as she learns how things can be different . See how she gets on

The first book by this Author that I have read and I found it to be a well-written story. The first book in the Embrace series and I want to read the other books. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
To live for so long, Sophia didn't think she would ever be happy. Then she found Nate, her soul mate. She is wary of the connection at first but then, with a nudge from her family she lets him in, even on her secret that she is a vampire. This book has wonderfully written characters and the story plot is great. I can't wait to see what happens into the next book.

I was contacted by the author of this book and asked if I would read it in exchange for an honest review. I read the blurb and an extract on her website and decided it looked good and so accepted. Sophia Pierce is a Vampire, she never wanted this life but has learnt to deal with the consequences, her adopted family live by rules and refuse to feed off of mortals, they control their cravings and live on donated blood or animal blood. They try to blend into society and come across as a normal loving family. There is now a new member to the family,Danika, she has to be integrated and needs to learn the rules and her control. Sophia and her siblings head back to school to keep an eye on Danika and get her back into society. Sophia doesn't particularly want to go back to school, she's done it all before and prefers to keep to herself, not get attached to anyone, that is until she meets Nathanial, the school hottie and it's love at first sight. Sophia must learn to open up and accept herself so others can accept her too. I loved the twist of this story, the vampires weren't all blood-sucking monsters, but rather a special family unit that although different, wanted to be a part of others lives and were kind, caring, loyal and loving. I really felt a warmth and attraction to the family and almost felt like a part of their unit. Nathanial sounds great, I wish I could find me someone like him, he is so understanding of everything, loving and sounds good looking too. I could just imagine his adoring smile. *heart melts* The story is really well paced and once I had sat down I found it hard to pull myself away. I was sent the pdf version as I don't have an e-reader so I could only read it in the evenings when I was home with my computer, when I had to log off, I found myself wondering what would happen next and I struggled to read a different book, as I couldn't keep my thoughts off this one. I ended up reading it in three sessions, but it didn't take me long at all. I was captured into the story and felt like I was standing along side the characters. For a first time novel, I am excited to see what else Charlotte will release. Most of all I am looking forward to book two in this series, as this book doesn't come to a complete conclusion, it's left me on tenterhooks and I want to know what will happen. Definitely one to look out for.
I did an interview with the author a few weeks ago, if you want to know more about Charlotte Blackwell and her work, read it here.
I really hate to give a 1 star or a bad review...especially when everyone else loved it so much. Truthfully reading this book was painful for me. The writing wasn't my cup of tea. I've read far better written things in first person and its my least favourite voice to have a book in. I felt like the author and her characters kept saying the same thing over and over and over again. Sophia's indecision.....her constant way of saying how she's found love and how much he appeals to her....seriously....did we have to hear it every few pages? Then how much everyone loved everyone else in the family. I'm not sure what year they were in Wenham but I'm pretty sure a normal teenage guy didn't talk like him. I felt Luke was more believable and spoke more like a real guy. I just couldn't attach to any character. And that's important to me as a reader.
I think the biggest thing for me was the lack of passion in the characters and lack of real character development. We just didn't see enough of it, and I could not bring myself to personally care about a single character. It started out promising with Caspian, and then it just dissolved from there. The writing just didn't feel like it had any ....I guess the word I'm looking for is fire. It's almost like she didn't know her characters well enough to give them enough traits for us to identify with them. Not that any of us identify with vampires mind you...but still. In a lot of other vampire novels, the authors have given them life...and a past...and things we love about them...things we hate about them...things that humanize them almost.
I almost want to try to read the next book, but I just don't think I can. The style of writing turns me off and now after 500 pages of the first book and I don't care anything about any of the characters...I just don't think that justifies reading any further. Which I hate, I really try to have an open mind when reading, but I just can't move forward with this series and I really wanted to like it!
This is the story of a teenage girl named Sophia and her family, all of which are vampires. Although they are vampires, they live among humans. So that neighbors do not get suspicious of them, they have to relocate places to live about every 10 years. Samantha and her family return to a town they once lived in before and get settled. On the first day of high school for Sophia and her siblings, Sophia bumps into a boy named Nathaniel. Their attraction to each other is instantaneous, intense and cannot be denied. Sophia acknowledges her feelings for Nathaniel but struggles with them based on a prior incident that happened 30 years with her brother and his lover, a human woman. Sophia would never want to harm Nathaniel. As hard as she tries to fight it, she cannot deny that Nathaniel and she are soulmates. She realizes she can no longer fight it and decides to give in to the fact that they are meant to be together. For the first time in her long life, she is in love and feels happy and complete but she knows it cannot last forever. Throw in the fact that each vampire has a special power, the family is friends with witches and that there are bad vampires lurking around and you have a great story.
This book is part of a series. I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down! It very much reminded me of parts of Twilight. I loved the writing and the detail, as well as the characters and the story. The relationship between Nathaniel and Sophia is so sweet. They are so in love but Sophia realizes they cannot be together forever which is sad. It makes you wonder what will be the outcome for them in the next books- will Nathaniel be changed into a vampire or not. The siblings’ relationships with each other as well as their parents and Nathaniel’s family are also very sweet. I am ready to jump into book 2!!!
When first got a copy of this I thought it would just be about the usual vampires, I am glad to say I was wrong. Not only are there 2 types of vampires, but also witches.
Reading Immortal Beloved I sometimes forgot it was about vampires, as its not in your face, and it let me concentrate on the budding friendships between the characters, both friendly and romantically.
I loved the family dynamics of the characters, they may not be related to each other as a "real" family, but from reading Immortal Beloved it seems like they are, and they feel like a close knit family, not only thinking of themselves, but also humans with the lifestyle and choices they make.
Reading Immortal Embrace took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, to loving the family and how they treat Nate, but also making me really dislike a character from the begining, making me feel something as not right with them, but not able to really pin point it till the evidence was there. I have never disliked a character in a book so much before and I applaud Charlotte for making me feel like this.
Charlotte's writing has just enough detail, explaining backstory and history as part of the book, but also adding enough descriptive language so we actually get to picture what is happening, but not too much to distract from what is going on.
Immortal Embrace was a page turner from start to finish, and I am so glad I have Forbidden Embrace waiting to be read, as I don't think I could wait to see what happens next.
After her brother accidentally kills his human girlfriend in the throws of passion fear causes Sophia to be wary of allowing herself to get intimate with anyone. When the family move to a new town and she finds her soul mate in the form of Nathanial, a human boy at her school Sophia tries to ignore her feelings. On the night of the school formal an evening stroll ends in tragedy forcing Sophia to face her insecurities and deal with the thing she fears most.
I really wanted to enjoy this more than I did but I found it very predictable. I was disappointed with the story and let down by the writing style. We were ‘told’ everything and ‘shown’ nothing if you know what I mean, so I felt like I was reading someone’s diary rather than a novel. Adjectives were few and far between and even though I don’t like books over written and filled with metaphors etc I realised after reading this that we need something!! A dialogue and thought driven story is clearly not for me as it lacks the ‘umph’ I need to hold my interest.
Maybe I read too many ‘vampire’ books or watch too many ‘witchy’ programmes but to me this story seemed like a combination of them all rolled into one book! The large family of vampires who don’t agree with killing so have a diet of animal food and donated human blood. The witch enchanted jewellery that allows them to walk around in daylight, the mind reading, predicting the future, the appearance of wolves long after they have become extinct and the vampire in love with a human!! None of the ideas are new or fresh…… I felt like I had already met these characters before, and their story was all too familiar.
This book is about Sophia, an eternal teenager that is forced to go back to high-school to keep an eye on her youngest sister, Danika. The reason? Danika is the newest addition in her family, a vampire family. This means that if she struggles to behave herself in high-school at least she won't be alone.
The only problem is that since her older brother, Caspian, killed his girlfriend in a terrible accident and then ran away ashamed of what he did, Sophia prefers to keep her distance with humans and the only people she allows to enter in her world is her family so going back to high-school is not something she wants to do. At all. Specially since she doesn't trust Danika...
But we all know high-school is not as bad as it seems, specially if we have in count that you can find a few cute guys *big smile*. And that's what happens with Sophia when she bumps - literally- into Nathaniel. Is not that she wants to reveal herself to him and tell him all their secrets but there's something about him that drags her to his arms. It doesn't matter how many times she tries to stay away from him, its useless.
And then her fears become reality...
I had a good time reading this book, is not very long so I finished it in one night. Now, I'm always going to be honest and this book has a few similarities with Twilight, there's no denying that. So, if you liked it this book should be a nice one to read. Saying that we can also find witches and another supernatural beings that make the story very entertaining.
The book was very good. I couldn't put it down even though it seemed a bit... staged. The plot was very good, with the villains defined and you could practically see trouble coming. The characters were so-so believable and the only one that seemed truly alive was Alex and Caspian, other than that it felt a bit forced or, like I said before, staged. I found myself rolling my eyes in almost every page at the cheesy lines thrown in between Sophia and Nate. And the first thought that came to my mind when I began reading the book was Twilight. While I'm not trying to compare the books as to which one was better I'm saying that this book resembled Twilight a lot. Still, the vampires didn't sparkle but had amulets that made them somehow more human. That was something new for a change. The romance between Sophia and Nate was very... romantic. Very. There were times when I couldn't stop smiling and other when I was frowning because it seemed like this was a soap opera in which everything was exaggerated. Now, the writing was very good. Charlotte made the story float and I wish Caspian would have come out more. I liked him very much. Besides, she did a great job describing the backgrounds of the characters, though some some of them were a bit vague and some she didn't say more than a couple of words about. Perhaps she'll talk more about it in the next book, which I'll definitely want to read because I have nothing against books with super-duper in love couples. I love them.
Oke first of all, I love the cover. So I'm kind of in struggle with myself what to say or what to think about this book. The book is about vampires, although you tend to forget that throughout the book. I hated the writing style, you were told everything and shown nothing. I'm not really sure how to explain. It was kind of like a big diary instead of a story. I was frustrated with the writing style the moment I began. It lakced emotion and it wasn't really conversational. The story was okay, but very very predictable. The whole concept about a family who doesn't eat human blood, but blood of animals is kind of old. The daytime jewelry the wiches made for them is also done before. I did like the part of the wiches in the story though. When I read the story I thought to myself oke what did I just read? There wasn't really a big deal in the story, not really a struggle. Yeah there was supposed to be the struggle for vampire Sophie and human Nathaniel, but they fall instantly for eachother and declared love. Although Sophie keeps repeating she's bad for him, a monster, yeah yeah we get it. It was boring, without action. The story could be so much more, but unfortunately it sucked, pun intended. Don't waste your time or money over this one.
This is a really fantastic young adult love story by Charlotte Blackwell. I had heard previously about her writing thanks to my good friend, author Kathi Barton. One of my goodreads book clubs read it for October, and I ate it up immediately. I read this in less than 24 hours, it was just really good. I enjoyed the nods to other famous vampire stories of my generation--such as mentioning that sparkling is only for vampires in the movies.
Sophia is a vampire who moves to Wenham, Massachusetts with her family. When she starts school, she meets Nathanial McCord, the star quarterback who usually has no attention or time for the ladies--until Sophia. They are instantly attracted to one another, but her secret looms: will he accept her and love her as she is or will he run away screaming if he ever finds out?
Very easy formatting and conversational writing style. It made this a breeze to read. Not a fan of the sort of cliffhanger ending--but that's only because my Kindle replacement is on its way to me and I can't wait until I get it so I can download the second book. :)
I really liked this book, even if it did seem very similar in parts to twilight. The characters are likeable and you get to know them very well. Sophia has to be my favourite and by the end of the story I felt I knew her so well that I should have been going round to her place for coffee.
Some of the love scenes were a bit too soppy for my liking and did seem a little staged. The characters also seemed to fall in love a little too quickly, and I wished Charlotte had maybe lengthened the novel to allow this to progress more naturally.
So why the 4.5 stars when I seem to have these gripes? Well, the answer is easy. The book kept me interested, I didn’t want to put it down. While some of the scenes are soppy, others were so beautifully written that I actually became jealous. I would like to have a love like that. In fact, I don’t know many people who wouldn’t. This book isn’t just your typical vampire novel either, but if you want to know more, I suggest you purchase the book, make yourself a tea or coffee and be prepared to enter a brilliant world.
If you are a lover of paranormal romance, I strongly suggest you read this novel.
Many thanks to the author for allowing to read this book for review.
I'm sorry... I'll have to rate this a two. *Contains minimal spoilers. Won't absolutely ruin the book if you read this though.* First off, the writing in this book... is not a sight for sore eyes to say the least. It was as if you were reading a journal (a badly written one at that.) You weren't shown anything but instead told, and although Sophia was "likable," the writing just threw me off. Also the use of language that were just inappropriate (not sexually) for the characters. Since when does a boy "gush?" Then there's the OBVIOUS idea stealing from several main stream media shows, books and movies.
The "Magnificent Ones" (Most powerful witches in the universe. Sisters with the same first letter of name being guided by their grandmother.) - The Charmed Ones
The Pierce Family (Vampire family, each "member" having a specific role, aunt, uncle, mom, dad. "Dad" figure in medicine field. Each vampire having different powers) - The Cullen Family or Twilight
"Embrace"- Having to give blood of a vampire then kill to become one - Vampire Diaries
Shapeshifters (Although I'm not sure if this is in the next book but..)- Twilight.. Again.
I just... why is her book so popular when their are tons of much more TALENTED authors out there?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Immortal Embrace is a delightful read! Charlotte Blackwell spins a terrific story, building intrigue in layers that keeps you turning the pages for more. In the past I have been turned off of most vampire novels, but Charlotte has completely won me over, and I am now seeking out other vampire stories.
Sophia Pierce is a young woman who was turned, or embraced, and has learned to live as a vampire through those who have become her family. She meets a young man, and the story takes off in a wonderful romance with lots of mystery and magic to make this one of the more enjoyable reads I've picked up in awhile..
Charlotte does an excellent job of building suspence. The depth of Sophia Pierce, her background, and the level of vampire mythology and magic, as well as the characters, pulled me in, and before I knew it I was so hooked I couldn't let it go, had to continue right on into the next novel of this series--and come back later to write this review:) I thoroughly enjoyed Immortal Embrace and highly recommend it to adult paranormal lovers and ya paranormal lovers alike. I gave this novel 5 stars.--a must read!
This is a story of a boy and a girl! She has a secret, he is open minded! He is mortal, she is a teenager turned vampire over a 100 years ago! She and her family lives off of donated blood or animal blood and they have powers ~~ Twilight! She meets a witch at school, only now coming into her powers ~~ Vampire Diaries TV series! They have rogue vampires threatening their existance ~~ all the above with a touch of Sookie Stackhouse! The witch friend ~~ one of two sisters! Combined their powers is greater than any before ~~ Charmed! Those are the nagatives! Here is the positives~~ The author pulls these lines together to form a comfortable story line! The characters are likable and the reader is saved the teenage angst so prevelant in said series'. As a debut novel it holds a lot of promise and with a bit of editing it will flow easier and be more enjoyable still. I am sure that the fan fiction that was so apparent to me is what will make this book a go to for many! But go ahead. Get a copy and read it! Then you can make up your own mind between comfortable vs new and unique! WaAr!
I was very surprised by how much I actually enjoyed this book. It was good, but I do have a few complaints. The italicized thoughts were a little annoying. Some things were a little repetitious especially when it came to Sophia's inner thoughts. Sophia's emotions and thoughts could be condensed and shown more than told. A little bit of the dialogue seemed awkward and staged. The book is somewhat similar to Twilight, but it is hard to break out of that shell with a vampire book.
**Be Warned, Somewhat Spoilers Ahead**
Nathanial was definitely my favorite character, but I wish Sophia turned him. I'm hoping she "embraces" him soon. The term for being turned into a vampire was "embraced", and I very much liked that. It sounded romantic and went well with this book. I think that term was my favorite part of the whole book.
Rating this book was difficult. I gave it two stars, but if I could have I would give it another half star. My final rating it two and a half stars. I will read the next books because I am interested to see what happens with the characters.
Immortal Embrace has a plot well and truly based on a more traditional vampire story that does draw some direct comparisons to its predecessor the Twilight series. The Pierce family unit, special vampire powers, new school, teen trying to fit in, falling for a mortal. Blackwell does shake up the package with the interaction with the sisters who are descendants of the Salem witches, however they replace the role of the werewolves. Although it does go in a different direction, and I did like the role of the ‘protector’, it’s not different enough for me to be totally enthralled and the style of writing isn’t one that I instantly took to. As a first novel though it is very commendable and now that Blackwell has forged ahead with the series it might benefit from a bit of a ‘revamp’. Give me less statements and more conversation with emotion. When a full series is out there and a new reader takes the plunge first impressions count and the author has already taken a step in that direction with a beautiful new cover.
