4.5 Stars She woke up without a past, without a memory of who she was, what kind of person she was, who loved her and who wanted her gone. The cold stranger in front of her told her she was Amelia, his wife, but nothing about this man was familiar and he ruled with an iron fist and an arsenal of drugs to keep her under control. Somewhere in the back of her mind were fleeting thoughts, or ghosts of thoughts, a man, a life, and love. Nothing like the sterile and cold world she lives in now, complete with a bodyguard and a credit card for her only “friends.” Firing synapses, more flashes of another life, knowledge of things she shouldn’t know and dark shadows she cannot bring to the light. It all revolved around Marseille and the man in her past, a man who was not her husband.

Gerard Besson now lives life as a police commissaire, but there was a time when he lived many other lives and found a woman who stole his heart, but she died violently, her body was unrecognizable. His painful memory was re-opened when a strange woman contacts him, saying she doesn’t know how, but she knows him and he is important to her past. Walking the Edge is a book tailor-made for readers who love spy fare like "The Bourne Identity" and "La Femme Nikita," with a little "Hitman" thrown in. And the bonus is the heroine is equally if not more lethal than the hero. The atmosphere is spot on, with a sophisticated European vibe that is almost obligatory with this sort of espionage storyline. This is my first read by Zee Monodee, and definitely not my last. I have met her on Goodreads and shared friendly discussions about our mutual love of dangerous heroes and romantic suspense. She definitely brings all that knowledge and appreciation for these genres to vivid life in this book. The romantic elements are authentically hot and sensual, and they fit well into this edgy, noirish suspense tale of a woman who truly doesn't know who she is and goes on a journey to find the answer to this million dollar question. There are plenty of storyline twists that kept me reading, and I found myself pleasantly surprised at how well and intricately plotted this story was. Normally, you read these sort of books and criticize the decisions the characters make. Not here. These people act like the pros in the field that they are. I liked that she gets that cold, hard edge that needs to be present in this kind of story. Spies don't live sunny, fluffy lives. They walk in the dark, and that darkness always tries to encroach on their heart and minds. But love can vanish away that darkness, and the time comes when tough choices have to be made to reach out for that light in the darkness. It takes one heck of a heroine to deal with this, and this book has that kind of heroine.

For readers who enjoy a tough, sophisticated, edgy heroine, this book will definitely make for a good read. Especially with an equally tough, sexy, but loving hero at her side, and lots of suspense and adventure to round out an appealing romance.

I recommend this book.

Edge of Danger is the first book in the Corpus Agency series, and it starts us off with a serious bang. I really am excited to see where this series heads, as there is so much potential for great things. Honestly, I feel a serious addiction coming on.

This first book starts us with two things that always grab my attention: amnesia and clandestine agencies. Mixing the two together gives you a story that will leave you gripped, curious as to how every detail comes together.

I’ll be completely honest by saying it took me a while to get into this story. Although I was interested by the storyline, I wasn’t pulled in by the characters. They were merely a way to give the details I so desperately wanted – at least at the start. Once things really got moving, once information started to come to light and the connections were being made, I found myself pulled in by the characters a lot more.

This story has everything you would expect from a great romantic suspense novel. There is all the mystery surrounding the unknown and the criminal happenings, alongside all the drama of romantic life. There were so many layers to both elements of the story, both the mystery and drama grabbing you. Each time you came to terms with one detail, something new would be thrown at you from a different location. It constantly kept you on your toes, leaving you unsure as to how things would play out. Whom could you trust? What was going to happen next? How did certain elements come into play? So many wonderful questions, enough to keep you guessing until the end.

Whilst the individual character storyline comes to a head in this one, leaving us content with how things played out, there are still many questions remaining regarding the bigger picture. I’m super intrigued by all the possibilities that await in the future, unsure as how things will come together.

There really is so much potential for this series and I cannot wait to find out how everything will play out.

Walking the Edge is the explosive debut novel of the Corpus Brides series by Zee Monodee. Shrouded in mystery and half-truths until its climactic ending, Walking the Edge is a romantic suspense novel that rightfully earns its position as one of the best romantic suspense novels to line my e-book shelves this year.

Walking the Edge kicks off with the heroine Amelia in the midst of a shopping complex, closely guarded by the hulk of a man sent with her seemingly for her protection by the cold and aloof man who proclaims to be her husband. Amelia suffers from amnesia and though her 'husband' tries to keep her under the influence of mind altering drugs, some deep hidden instinct within Amelia refuses to let her believe the nicely made up history of her life that comes out of Peter's mouth.

Its the dreams when she she is forced to slumber that brings her to France to meet the man who seems to have been her lover, a man who doesn't recall the fact which makes her lose all hope of ever finding out the truth about herself.

The last thing Gerard needs is a woman to turn up claiming to be his long-lost lover even though he has no recollection of the beautiful woman in obvious distress who stands in front of him. When Amelia saves his life from a close call and inevitably shows a side of herself that even she is not aware of, Gerard knows that he cannot walk away from the lure that this woman poses, a woman who makes him crave as he had craved for another woman that he should best have forgotten about.

As Gerard and Amelia give into the explosive mind numbing passion that whirls between them, questions about who she is and why she resembles the woman whose death seven months back which still haunts him mount up with no answers forthcoming. Amelia who is a mass of contradictions refuses to bow down to the fact that she is just merely the wife of someone she can't stand and continues to stalk the truth about herself which frustratingly remains elusive until everything comes tumbling down, giving both Amelia and Gerard answers which once again has the power to drive them apart once and for all.

Walking the Edge delivers the sort of suspense that I love to find in books and movies, the type that makes my mind restless to find out the hidden truth which is so very well done in this novel. Together with this aspect, Zee Monodee keeps up with the relentless passion of the red-hot variety which escalates from one encounter to the other, delvering raw emotions between her characters that they both need to face head on. The basis of the covert secret agents that makes up the bare skeleton of the series is well done and I for one am definitely looking forward to more novels in the Corpus Brides series.

Recommended highly for fans of romantic suspense novels who love those stories that deliver on a mystery that puzzles you and makes you positively itch to find out the truth. A story that combines red-hot passion, sizzling sexual tension, a mystery that taunts you to read on and a love so powerful that even forgotten memories couldn't keep them away.

Ms. Monodee has become one of my favorite new authors with the way she writes her characters with so much complexity and bite. Her upcoming Walking on the Edge came just as I was getting into Anne Stuart's romantic suspense books and I have to say both whet my appetite for more books of it's type.

Amelia Jamison awakens to a life that doesn't feel quite like the one she left before her boating accident. Her husband Peter doesn't feel like a loving husband and is more interested in keeping her sedated on pills than comforting her. She notices his sneak calls and the way he's always "at the office". As she tries to jog her memory to the life she led before, she remembers snippets of a man she may have been intimate with during a time where her life may have been completely unlike what she expected. During one of Peter's outings, she decides to start on a track that would soon lead her in the path of a high ranking police official...

Gerard Besson is the commissaire of Marseille. After losing the love of his life to a bombing accident that nearly took his own life, he has thrown himself into his work. Once he notices a mysterious woman following him, he is on alert. As attracted he is to her, he knows she could sent to catch him off guard when he least expects it. At her persistence, he soon finds that he may share a dark past with her. Amidst a twist of events Amelia closes in to her her true identity and eventually discovers her true connection to Gerard.

This was an awesome read. I couldn't figure out what was going on and in a suspense that's exactly what I want to keep me turning the pages. The action and mystery was taut and the turn of events kept taking me by surprise. Gerard was a hot hot hot hero and I can so picture him as a serious yet very masculine type like German actor Thomas Kretschmann. In fact, if this book becomes a movie one day (I would so love that) I hope Thomas K. gets to play Gerard.

I'd highly recommend this read to all suspense enthusiasts (romantic or otherwise) and those who love a good story. I had a chance to read this in 2009 in its first edition and it went on my best reads of 2009. I'm definitely going to give this one a re-read because of the many intricate details in the story that I know I may have missed the first time around.

Fans of Anne Stuart will love this debut novel, this time with a switch featuring a dark heroine rather Stuart's dark hero slant.

In the case of books I've abandoned before finishing them, I don't presume to write a review, or rate them; but I do sometimes offer a brief explanation of why I didn't finish. Though the bad language was off-putting, I could have tolerated that if the book had compensating positive factors; but I didn't find enough of these. For me, characters tend to make or break a book. The main character here, however, is hard to get to know, because she doesn't actually know herself; her amnesia makes her largely a blank slate, and her actions seem to be dictated by the needs of the plot rather than by anything inside her. (Sometimes she seems strong and self-directed, while at other times she's an easily-led damsel in distress; we're as clueless as she is about what is or isn't in character for her.) The explicit sexual content came across to me as sleazy and coarse, and again without compensating factors; I judge that kind of thing in a book on a case-by-case basis, and sometimes it's a part of a character's journey that's headed in a better direction, but I didn't get the latter vibe here. Finally, the dragged-in reference to the "morning after" pill was the proverbial "straw [or in this instance, steel beam] that broke the camel's back."

Since she woke up from a comma, Amelia has been kept guarded and drugged by her husband. But after a dream and an overheard conversation, she begins to doubt whether what he has told her is correct. With a chance to escape from his grasp, she heads for Marseilles, in search of a man she only knows from her dream. She hopes he will be able to tell her who she truly is and whether they were lovers.

What can I say about this book, except that it has everything a fabulous book should have. There is mystery, gut-clenching suspense, action, emotion and some very steamy scenes. I had no problems clicking with these characters, wanting to know their story. And the ending left me oh so satisfied. I look forward to reading the next book in Zee Monodee's Corpus Bride series, too.

This is one of those books that I wish I just hadn't picked up. The writing wasn't horrible but something was missing and it ended up just irritating me. I don't believe that I'll be grabbing the next one in the series or another one by this author at this point.

I was really excited to get this one, I found the blurb intriguing: a woman with amnesia, an abusive "husband", stirring dreams about a mystery man and killer skills that the amnesiac doesn't know how she acquired. Unfortunately, the blurb was the most exciting thing about the book for me. When you first start the story, you're thrown into Amelia's life while she's trying to figure out who she is and where she fits into the world. That was pretty interesting. I could sense a fire burning within her but it never blossomed into anything for me. I was wanting this wolf in sheep's clothing type of thing and I think that may have been the intention but I just never saw it.

I didn't understand the immediate chemistry between Amelia and Gerard. Well, that's not true. I understood it - they wanted to shag each other ... that's not difficult to pick up - but I didn't think that it really fit into the novel. It didn't seem like it was truthful to the story that they were in. And the thing is ... that's the whole story ... figuring out how these two fit together. But to me, it just didn't work. There wasn't enough. Of anything.

The story as a whole just didn't do anything for me and if I'm being brutally honest, I found it a tad boring. Walking The Edge didn't keep my attention, I wasn't chomping at the bit to read more and when I was finished with the last sentence, it didn't resonate with me. I didn't want to talk to anyone about the book or bug my husband with all of the details (I'm sure he's thankful) and I didn't want to pick it up and immediately read it again.

Not the novel for me but I'm definitely in the minority on this one and don't take just my word for it on this book, read a few more reviews from other bloggers and see what they think. Maybe my radar for good books is off right now because mine is the ONLY rating on Goodreads that is under 3 stars. Oh, well. On to the next book!

The first thing that comes to my mind when thinking about Walking the Edge is an episode of female action stars, like Le Femme Nikita, but add in some love to the mixture, making it a non-stop reading book.

Amelia is one of those characters we cannot really relate to in the action-esque sense (unless you’re like Angeline Jolie or something like that), but who we think is awesome for being strong, sensitive, and down-to-earth enough to make a truly complete action star. (Cuz you know, sometimes it’s all about the action and none about the love).

The hunk in the story is Gerard, and as he and Amelia give into passion, she stars to wonder who she is, and why in the world does she looks so much like a woman who died 7 months before??

Beautifully written, the story flows trough the pages . It’s an action story injected with suspense and a dash of love. Her characters face unknown things and unanswered questions that makes them face their most raw of emotions, forcing them to solve an intricate puzzle, and despite all that, love is always present like a force so strong not even amnesia can kill it.

Finally a book where a woman has to do all the work. Well, most of it anyway. In this story, the heroine has to uncover who she is, has to fight to recover her past, survive the present and build a future. She is strong, determined and extremely brave. She has to fight not only to survive, but to create a life away from drug cartels and guns, next to the ones she loves.

Amelia Jamison wakes up in a hospital after being in a terrible accident that left her with no memory of who she is. She also suffered damage to her face and body, thus plastic surgery has altered her real appearance. She now lives a perfect life, with a husband who provides for her, even if she has to take daily pills for her memory. All until one night when she remembers her lover and much to her surprise, it’s not her husband. Since she does not receive the needed answers from him, once putting a name to the face she dreamed, Amelia embarks in a journey to understand who she really is. First step is to find Commisaire Gerard Besson, her mystery lover. Maybe he can shed light to her dark mind.

A story with action at every page turn, “Walking the Edge” combines very nicely thriller and romance elements. I was not bored at all reading it. It gave me an immense pleasure to uncover the mystery behind Amelia and see if she manages to have the sense of reality she so desperately longs for. Both main characters are complex and well balanced, but the same can be said about the other ones.

I can say that the author paid great attention to details, leaving nothing at random and adding the correct dosage of love, action and mystery. I loved it and recommend it to all the fans of the thriller + romance combination.

4.5 stars. Wow--this book had me guessing over and over and over. I wasn't sure how it would end or what was going on until very close to the end. I'm not going to say much about the plot or the characters because I don't want to give anything away. At the beginning, I thought I knew what the story was going to be, but I so didn't!

I liked the hero and heroine very much and loved the unusual setting of Marseille. I also liked the hero's best friend, and I hope he shows up in another book in this series.

Definitely reading the rest of this series!

If Jason Bourne was a woman he'd be Amelia Jamison. Seriously. This is one kick-ass spy adventure with some romance thrown in. I love stories with characters with amnesia and I love that not having her memories made Amelia vulnerable and as we find out more about her, we get to see a different kind of person. We are taken on a journey as Amelia discovers more about the herself and her relationship with Gerard. I really can't tell you more without giving away the plot. This a fabulous story for fans of spy thrillers. Just strap on your seat belts and enjoy the ride.

Walking The Edge is my first book by Zee Monodee. Give me more! Ms Monodee has delivered a well written book. Gerard and Fey's story is a fast paced nail biter. The characters are fantastic and made this book amazing. There is plenty of action, suspense and sizzle to keep the pages turning. I enjoyed Walking The Edge and look forward to reading more from Zee Monodee in the future. Walking The Edge is book 1 of the Corpus Brides Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

This was like getting a peek inside the head of a female "Jason Bourne". An amnesiac who senses things are not quite what she is being told. Suspense and mystery combine to make one heck of a thriller based novel with an underlying romantic theme. The action-junkie in me loved every twist and turn in this stupendous rollercoaster ride.

Amelia Jamison recently woke from a coma after a near fatal car crash left horrifically burned. Not only does she have amnesia, but thanks to the plastic surgery to fix her burn scars, she hardly recognizes herself . She's fed sedatives and unknown pills by her husband Peter, telling it's for her healing process.

Amelia keeps having dreams about a man other than Peter, convinced she was never in love with her husband at all. With knowledge of Peter's affair and his abusive behavior, she makes a plan and escapes, searching for answers to fill her memory and hopefully find the man she remembers loving but doesn't actually remember.

The plot is consistently surprising and unpredictable, so even some of the slightest spoilers can ruin the experience for a reader. Going in blind is best, in my opinion. Some events in the story are stretched a bit beyond realistic, but it just adds to the feeling that the book would translate well into an action movie.

Amelia wakes one morning not remembering who she is. Her husband, Peter, does not seem to care about her, let alone love her, plus he is keeping her highly medicated. By her surroundings, she knows she is wealthy. She slowly begins to have flashbacks and begins her plan to escape. When the right moment arrives, she steals as much money as she can from her husband and flees, trying to find someone she has seen in a flashback in the hopes of finding her true identity. What she finds out about who she really is is shocking and terrifying to her. The question is, will she ever be able to have a "normal" life?
In all honesty, I did not think I would like this book. But it did hook me in right from the beginning. I did find parts a bit confusing, especially all the aliases of the main character. The characters were interesting and for the most part believable. The writing was concise.

Walking On the Edge is a romantic Suspense and the first book in the Corpus Brides series. It's NOT about weddings, this is hard edgy suspense. Amelia Jamison lives in London with her well to do husband Peter who allows her plenty of money for shopping, with her own bodyguard/ chauffeur. She's living a privileged life as she recovers from a traumatic accident that left her needing plastic surgery.

Yet something is off kilter, the marriage is cold and Amelia was left with amnesia from the accident, all she knows is what Peter tells her of her former life. Each day she must take drugs to help her recovery which knock her out for hours and Peter is most insistent that she continues with the drugs months after her surgery.

It starts with glimpses of memories whilst she's asleep, and a feeling of being followed while she's out shopping. Amelia plans an escape and grabs at an opportunity when she loses her bodyguard one day. Marseilles rings a bell with her and she heads there looking for answers.

Commissaire Gerard Besson is suspicious of the Lady who arrives asking for him. Yet when he is later attacked she's there saving him. Why does she feel familiar? Instincts and police training pull him in opposite directions as he tries to help Amelia solve the mystery as to just who she is. Yet he's also pulled in by his feelings for her, which are dangerous to allow when more than one dark character is also drawn to Marseille and the hunt for the truth gets serious.

I liked the fact that there were lots of layers to this story which kept getting peeled away, just when I thought I knew who Amelia was, another layer revealed more. A very good suspense mystery.

Let me start off by saying that I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review. That being said, this was both a good book, and a bad book…let me explain. (This is a different style than my normal reviews…I’m trying something different here, go with it, lol)

Good Book: It kept me intrigued and wondering who she was and why her “lover” didn’t know her.
Bad Book: SPOILER seriously, if she got/took drugs one more time…

Good Book: I liked the way it was set up, sectioned off like a diary, so you knew when and where things were taking place.
Bad Book: I don’t speak French so I had no idea where things were taking place (LOL).

Good Book: It’s the first in a series.
Bad Book: This, and the next two books, have an underlying “character”, but all the stories are separate.

Good Book: Whenever I put it down (usually at a chapter break), I couldn’t wait to see how things would change the next time I picked it up.
Bad Book: I feel like every chapter (from, say, the middle of the book on) the main character had a different name and I did get a bit confused at one point.

Good Book: Yeah, I would recommend it. It’s a quick read (though not a quick as my last one, lol) and will keep you wondering who she is/was/and will be.
Bad Book: Honestly, it was not a bad book. Sure, it had some “(sarcastic) really” moments, but all in all, it was enjoyable and I look forward to reading the other books in the series…even though they are completely different stories.

Pulse racing action, emotion, and hot sex scenes. That’s a great combination for any story. Ms. Monodee keeps the twist and turns coming, not allowing the reader to figure it out what will happen next until it’s just about to occur.
No story is complete without a character doing something stupid. You know, the kind of event that makes a reader re-read the section to make sure it actually happened? The heroine had one of those moments. I wish I could tell you what happened, but let’s just say that she learned the error of her ways once it was all said and done. I was able to forgive her because her motive made sense and she was such an overall strong character (with an edge) that I couldn’t hold it against her.

The attraction between the hero and heroine (to be honest I’m not sure what names to call them anymore) was intense. I liked that the love scenes balanced the action.

I’m looking forward to reading the stories of the other kick ass women in the two remaining books of the series.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review, and I was one happy girl about it, too.

When Amelia awakens in a hospital with amnesia, a mysterious man is at her side telling her that he's her husband. What follows is a roller coaster ride of thrilling espionage as she goes on a journey to discover her true identity. Just when you think you know how far down the rabbit hole goes, something else happens to add another twist. Amelia has several aliases and is some sort of spy/assassin. But which of the identities is the true one? And is the instant connection she feels for police officer Gerard Besson something real, or something one of her aliases became involved in as part of a larger lie?

This book kept me on my toes as I tried to figure out where it was going. The setting with rich with detail, and the author writes with a languid yet crisp prose, with lots of attention to detail. Gerard was my favorite character by far. While Amelia took a bit longer to latch on to me, I was sympathetic to Gerard from the minute I met him. The ending is heartwarming, but leaves room for more. Can't wait to read book 2!

Walking the Edge had me "walking the edge" or holding onto the edge of my seat right from the start. I was taken right into the action and the suspense and I immediately vied for the heroine to find her way. Amelia wakes up from an accident with a husband who gives her the creeps. The hardest part is she has amnesia and remembers very little from her past life. We can tell from her descriptions of her "husband" that he doesn't have her best interests at heart. When he becomes violent, she escapes to France and tries to find a man who haunts her dreams who turns out to be a police commissioner. But there's so much at stake and she can't remember enough. And Gerard doesn't trust her yet he's drawn to her. To top it, their lives are in serious danger.

The sex scenes were awesome, tender yet smoking hot. This was a great read - it will keep you invested the whole way through and there are many mysteries to unfold. There's plenty of action and you'll be desperate for answers right to the end.

Walking the Edge was a blend of assassin/spy thriller and sizzling romantic suspense story with a tough female heroine suffering from amnesia. When snippets of a memory of a man she must have been close to appear to her, she escapes London and her frosty husband who has been keeping her drugged and closely guarded and travels to Marseilles in search of answers from Gerard Besson, the local commissaire de police.
In France, layer after layer of her past is revealed in a captivating manner, and the relationship between the heroine and the local cop develops into an intense love story while the action accelerates when both are chased by dangerous opponents.
Fast paced and well written, this was a really good read by an author who was new to me. With lots of drama and mystery, this kept me entertained throughout, and I look forward to reading the other books in the Corpus Brides series.

Since some free books were offered by Lucia Jordan right at the beginning of the book I had expected this book to be very erotic and I was grateful that the erotic scenes were not as frequent as I had expected
There was a plot though though I did think that the relationship between the 2 main characters was a bit imaginative the rest of the story was acceptable.
She does offer the complete series for free unfortunately it is not available in Australia .I did receive this book for free from Instafreebie
I do wish that authors would write a complete novel instead of extending it over a number of books as 1) I lose interest 2) it does not become viable to spend money on books that you cannot share or exchange
So I give her credit for offering her series for free if we are able to receive them
