Singer Ginny Marshall is one signature away from the recording contract of her dreams—a deal that would guarantee success for the former foster child, who still struggles to bury the memories of her painful childhood. But Ginny needs advice from the one person who will look out for her best interests—her former fiancé, Brett Miller. She travels to the remote town of Glacier Bay, Alaska, where the town’s colorful characters and stunning scenery provide respite from LA’s pressures.
In Glacier Bay, Ginny discovers a box of old letters and is swept up in the love story between Clay, an early missionary to Alaska Territory, and Ellie, the woman who traveled there to be his children’s governess. When Ginny is reunited with Brett in Glacier Bay, will she discover—as Ellie did—that healing and love are sometimes found in the most unexpected places?

Why I read this book: I am proud to say I am a part of Tricia Goyer's 2013 launch team to help promote the books that she is having released this year. So that being said I read the book to give an honest review of it. What I did like: I like how the book just flowed. I am usually a slow reader and this book was a can't put you down type of book and I ended up reading it in one day. Overall Impression: I don't know how to exactly put into words all the good things I felt about this book. First I recommend seeing my post from December 24th and reading some of the background and looking at the pictures from Glacier Bay that the authors provided us with. Here is a link to that post: Glacier Bay - Launch Party The reason I say this is that it just made the book that much more personal to me. I felt as if I was right there and knew each person and location that was being talked about. I loved Ginny so much and wished I could just tell her to trust and things will be better in your future. Grandma Ethel what can we say about her other than she was a sweet person and knew just what Ginny needed. Who could not help but fall in love with Brett, he was so patient and just wanted to be there for Ginny. I did not care for Danny from the first moment I read about him. I loved how the book would go back into the past with the letters. I found myself like Ginny wanting to hurry up and get to the next letter so I could see what was going on with Ellie and Clay. I think everyone should take a day or two and read this book. It makes you stop and think about things and to know things are not always as you think they are. I would now love to go visit Alaska and go to the places in that Ginny went to and see all the great people of this little town with a big heart. I don't want to give to much away so I won't go into specifics of what I read but I think you will like the ending as much or better than the beginning. I think the end was very fitting. Great job to these two authors. Well worth 5 stars in my book.
One of my new favorites for the LFY line, this sweet romance had a gentle smoothness to it that just stuck with me, even during the period of time I had to set it aside to complete other reviews on deadline.
What I loved so much? It wasn’t your typical formulaic romance. The characters have already gone through their struggles and are now coming back together. Which is often unheard of in today’s romance genre. And it worked. So completely worked. Yes, the tension was still there as well as the romantic “sizzle” without the roll-your-eyes-get-over-it factor.
Combining Ginny and Brett’s story with a love story through letters from the past was pure genius. Letter writing is hard to make intriguing in a novel. It can often lack the tension it needs to keep the reader interested, but these veteran authors pulled it off.
It’s one of those stories that is so smooth. So seamless you forget that you’re really reading. The setting becomes a character, Brett’s Gram is a complete dear and what a fun surprise it was at the end of the story to find out who she really is. (shh, but I won’t tell for spoiler alerts)
It’s one of the best gentle romances I’ve read in a long time and I’m for sure and certain adding this one to my already maxed-out collection on too-small shelves.
This review is my honest opinion. Thanks to the publishers through Litfuse for my copy to review.
When the copy of Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska arrived, the snow was flurrying and ice was forming outside my door – unusual but not impossible for Texas. At my age, I can easily feel the cold in my bones and curled up in my cozy chair with a favorite throw and somewhat dreaded reading about Alaska with such cold weather about.
Soon, my chill lessened as the words of Trish Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss warmed my heart with the blessings of how they joined together to write a sweet lovable story of a modern day successful popular singer Ginny Marshall who still yearned for her lost love and decided to leave her responsibilities behind in Hollywood temporarily to find ex-fiancé Brett Miller who had returned to his home in Glacier Bay, Alaska.
Ginny was not prepared for what she would find, and could she…would she allow these things to change her life forever or return to her singing career. Everything was completely different and opposite of what she knew as life and she was faced with not understanding what she was learning. Ginny found that Brett was away in the wild beautiful mysterious Alaskan country with no way of contacting him. Surprisingly, Brett’s Grandma Ethel knew who Ginny was immediately and insisted she stay with her. Soon, we are immersed in two periods of time when Grandma Ethel’s wise sense of discernment gave Ginny a box of letters from the 1920’s that told the story of Ellie who had traveled to Alaska upon her own broken engagement to become the governess to missionary Clay’s children upon the death of his young wife. From here our story becomes much deeper in emotion, hardship, and endearing information on history of this charming but untamed part of Alaska and the people brave and determined to settle this area as their home.
The authors blended together the two ongoing stories with skill and Biblical truths that kept the story’s strength alive in this reader’s imagination. The descriptions of Alaskan scenery made it very visible in my mind and awed me. Being a history buff, I admit shear admiration and fascination for the research that was essential to the story.
Two love stories…..Ginny and Brett, Ellie and Clay – both very parallel, but unalike with the exception one couple learning to love; while the other attempted to find their love again. This story is about love. All the kinds of love God has created and told so well by the writers Trish and Ocieanna. My chill of the weather outside was soon forgotten through the warmth and heart rendering stories of these characters, their community, and their history. The authors added clever wit and humor throughout that made it such a joy to read and I wholeheartedly recommend it to you….see how God can work all things together for good.
Have you ever received advice that completely changed your point of view? Your life?
Little does singer Ginny Marshall know that when she sets out on a journey to Glacier Bay, Alaska, the advice that changes her life forever will come from a love story chronicled in letters written over 80 years ago. Ellie's story, captured in hand-written letters, brings flashes of hope and a fresh outlook on life to a confused and heartsore Ginny. Can Ginny learn from Ellie's experiences how to trust God to heal the pain born from her broken past? Will she allow God to help her choose which path she should take in her life's journey? Will she sort out all her problems too late for a second chance with the man she loves?
Tricia Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss masterfully co-wrote a beautiful story of history, experience, advice, a love lost and rediscovered. The authors' hearts are very evident in every piece of Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska. Most likely, that's the reason I feel this novel is an emotional roller coaster well worth riding. Plus, it's a story within a story, which is an intriguing style the authors perfectly captured, if you ask me.
One of my favorite characters in Glacier Bay, Alaska is Grandma Ethel. With her spunk, advice and overt matchmaking attempts, she adds a spicy flavor that kept me flipping pages -- and sometimes laughing until my stomach ached! Something she told Ginny on page 157 really leapt off the page at me. "I want to be around to discover God's good plan for sending you up here. That's more exciting than any novel." As a writer, this comment of Grandma Ethel's made me giggle. As a tutor who has seen God's good plan taking form in many young lives, it had me nodding with a knowing smile upon my lips.
The Lord's magnificent plan comes alive all around us. I believe Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska, reveals this in its setting, history and people. I wouldn't mind journeying to Glacier Bay, Alaska sometime in the future to experience the community and heart that defines the tiny town of Gustavus, the entryway into Glacier Bay.
I hope you get a chance to read the sweet adventure that is Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska. Perhaps, some far-off day in your future -- or nearer to now -- you'll make plans of your own to visit Gustavus.

REVIEW: This book is definitely one of my favorites among the Love Finds You series. The double parallel storyline incorporating both the present and the past was intertwined excellently through the letters written by Ellie, Clay and Brother Peter aka Grandfather. Reading through their story and beginning to find herself as well as forgiveness and love helped Ginny discover healing and open her heart fully to others.
The characters in this story are well developed not only the main ones but also the secondary. I loved the children and the part they played in Clay and Ellie's lives. Grandma Ethel along with Ellie's grandfather played vital roles in both the pair's lives.
I really appreciated the symbolism of the rock throughout the story and how it was included in the ending.
The scenery descriptions were well done and brought back fond memories of my trip to Glacier Bay and Mendenhall Glacier.
If you like a blending of past and present within a novel, then I highly recommend this Love Finds You story.
FAVORITE QUOTES: "When we're afraid, we always run to who we feel safe with."
"That's how life is, don't you think? If given the chance, new life is born from what's once been stripped away."
"Don't you realize it's the doing that often gets us into trouble? It's not the doing that makes God happy. It's not about what we've done...it's about what's been done for us."
When a book plays out like a movie in my head—even after I’ve closed the cover—I know it’s a keeper. AndLove Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaskapasses that Wish-It-Were-a-Hallmark-Movie test with flying colors. Tricia Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss’s novel contains all the elements that capture my imagination: the stunning physical setting, the beautiful, torn-between-two-beaus heroine, the handsome, good-guy hero, and the feisty-but-wise grandma. Plus, there’s an intriguing story from the past told through a box of old letters.
In modern day times, singer Ginny Marshall flies to Alaska while struggling with tough romantic and career choices. She leaves her current boyfriend behind to seek advice from the one person she trusts most in the world, her former fiance, Brett Miller. Then the story shifts to 1928, when heartbroken Ellie McKinley seeks refuge in Alaska from a broken engagement. As governess for the children of grieving missionary Clay Parrish, Ellie learns life lessons that she shares in letters. Her letters profoundly affect Ginny and add depth to this sweetly romantic story.
Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska tells the story of two women who run to Alaska when their lives are in crisis. There, God meets them with healing, hope, and love.
This novel is a great read for teens on up! Come visit me at Doorkeeper on January 8th, when I’ll be GIVING AWAY LFYIGBA! ***Thanks to the authors for providing a copy for me to review & a copy to share with you!
Favorite Quote: “I’m quite certain that before God can ever bless a woman—and use her to impact many—He uses the hammer, the file, and the furnace to do a holy work.” Grandma Ethel
What an excellent romance novel! I loved the story in the past as well as in the "now." Both were equally compelling and engaging as well as a perfect balance between the two.
My favorite thing is the hidden nuggets of wisdom spoken by Grandma Ethel. So many times I had to reread what she had said so I could get the full effect of her words.
I really enjoyed how the romance itself was not rushed in either story as well as that it was not far-fetched. I think it made this novel all the more enjoyable because it was so easy to relate to Ginny and Ellie.
I would highly recommend this novel to someone who is looking for a great romance! It's wonderfully written and keeps your attention grabbed while imparting beautiful wisdom from life experience and the Bible.
The story of Ginny and Brett is so sweet, the way that they understand each other really adds to this story. I got swept up in the love story in the postcards! And..Brett's Grandmother is the sweetest little lady.
If you love romance, gorgeous Alaska settings, and a little bit of history, you will enjoy this book!
Tricia Goyer is one of my favorite Amish fiction authors so when I realized she had co-authored a Love Finds You book I was totally excited because I have been reading this series for a couple of years and just love them. The thing that I enjoy most about the Love Finds You series is that each book always sweeps the reader to a different locale. With Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska the reader finds themselves swept into a snowstorm in Alaska. We meet Ginny Marshall, who seems to finally be getting what she wants, a top recording studio wants to sign her to a major contract, and she is dating one of People magazines most eligible bachelors, but instead of feeling happy, she just feels like she wants to run away. Brett Miller is the only person she feels like she can trust to talk to, thing is he is in Alaska and she is in LA and more than that he just happens to be her ex- fiancee. Will she find the answers she needs once she makes the trek to Alaska?
This book was a visual treat! The author's descriptive prose really brings the setting of Alaska to life, allowing me to easily picture Alaska in all it's beauty! While the characters in the story were great, and easy to relate too, after all Ginny was dealing with past issues, issues that her new boyfriend new nothing about.I thought the chemistry between Ginny and Brett was great. For me though, it was the story that is revealed thru a box of old letters. The letters transported me back to the 1920's revealing a remarkable love story. Even though the story shifts from past to present, the transition is always smoothly done. If your looking for a very well written story, that blends together a wonderful historical story, while also providing a great contemporary read as well, your not going to be disappointed with this book. A great story line with interesting characters and beautiful scenery made this another great addition to the Love Finds You series!
A complimentary copy of this book was provided in exchange for an honest review.
Love Finds You in Glacier Bay Alaska By Tricia Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss
We have all experienced it, that moment where we wonder how we got to the point we are at. We wonder about the what ifs, what if I had stayed? what if I had gone? What if I took that interview? What if I chose him over my career? There are a lot of what ifs in our lives, some that we move further with no regrets and some that we will always wonder about. That is exactly what Ginny Marshall is wondering now, on the verge of signing a huge music contract, a dream that she has had her entire life, the chance to date the big time music producer and have her future set.
However, there is something holding her back, her ex-fiancee whom she turned away from when the chance to pursue her career was offered. Now Ginny is in need of answers from the one person that knows her best, from the person she left behind, Ginny travels to the small town of Gustavus in Glacier Bay, Alaska to find Brett, in a town where everyone know everyone she finds that most know of her history with the much beloved Brett.
Unsure of where to turn Ginny finds herself at Brett’s Grandmothers house, who welcomes her with open arms and offers her a stack of letters to help her find her way.
Tricia Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss have done an amazing job of pulling you into the story and making you a part of the small town culture of Gustavus, their characters feel familiar and you feel as if you have known them for your entire life, with two stories folded into one you will share in the heartache, the laughter and understand the healing that takes place as Ginny searches for direction. By the time you finish this book you will be searching to book a flight to the town of Gustavus, the descriptions of Glacier Bay will have you dreaming of visiting!
I received this book as a part of the Tricia Goyer 2013 Launch Team. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is how my reading schedule for this book went:
Day 1: Read through intro and two chapters - about 25 pages. Chuckled a bit over the description of Juneau, having just been there a couple of weeks prior. Thoughts: 'eh, well... I don't really love the main character yet...
Day 2: Read through 7 more chapters - about 45 pages. Hmm... interesting. And then I thought about the story all night, frustrated that I didn't have more time to read it.
Day 3: Ordered pizza for the family so I could read the rest of the book - 240 pages. lol! Kidding, I actually had a (wholesome) freezer meal ready to thaw. Nonetheless, I read through naptime, through the time that I should have been preparing dinner, through dinner, and all the way until I finished the book at 11pm. There were of course interruptions and a few children's book read aloud, but for the most part, I just couldn't stop the story.
As soon as the main character started discovering the beauty of Alaska, I was hooked. My family will be moving to Alaska in less than a month. After just one visit, I can picture everything Ginni saw, and my breath catches.
And I loved the way the authors wove the two love stories together. They enriched each other.
"Glacier Bay" was an easy read. It took a bit to get going. But how enjoyable in the end! Kudos!
(Side note - I'll be living 50 miles from Glacier Bay. I'm so tempted to hop on a little plane and live this story vicariously. Think I could convince them to stock up on the novel in their gift shop? Wonder if they are aware...)
I enjoyed this book on different levels. The Alaskan scenery came alive to me and made me want to visit. There are really two story lines in this book. Ginny Marshall is on the brink of achieving a singing career that she has wanted for a long time. She is offered a recording contract, a chance to sing at the Grammy's and her agent is interested in her romantically but things just don't feel right. Ginny was engaged to her best friend in college, Brett, but broke things off to pursue her singing career. She decides that she wants to talk things over with Brett and travels to Glacier Bay, Alaska to visit him. Upon arriving in Glacier Bay, she discovers that Brett is out spending time in the wilderness. She visits his grandmother, Ethel, who insists that Ginny stay with her. Ginny spends time getting to know Ethel and while with her she is transported to another time reading letters that Ethel has in her possession. There is a whole other story from the past told in those letters. Ethel has some health issues come up that require the need for someone to stay with her so this keeps Ginny with her at least until Brett returns. Once Brett returns, he and Ginny rekindle their friendship but Ginny has a lot of security problems that she has dealt with her whole life growing up in foster care. Ginny has to decide what is important for her in her life and who is important. And so does Brett. In the meantime, her agent is trying to get her back to Los Angeles. Similar events are going on in the letters. I enjoyed this read a lot!
Tricia Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss have come together to create a beautiful love story, that warms the heart. They're both talented authors, who draw the reader in, and immerse you into the small town of Glacier Bay, Alaska. I know it may sound cliche to say, but I really did feel like I was there, and I could see everything clearly as if I was right there with Ginny, Brett, and Grandma Ethel. And while the setting was beautiful, the characters were equally enjoyable. I especially enjoyed Brett's Grandma Ethel. What a sweet, precious lady; she added so much to the story, and I love how her character imparted so much spiritual wisdom to Ginny. Truly great stuff!
I found this story to be quite unique, in the fact that there are two stories in one; Ginny's story blends beautifully with Ellie's story through Ginny's reading of the letters that were written in the early part of the 1900's. Ginny has her own struggles, and through Ellie's letters, she's able to relate and work through some of the issues she's having, and it's wonderful to watch how she (and Ellie) grow in their faith.
I love how everything comes together, and how the authors have perfectly woven two time periods, and two love stories. With its amazing setting, heartwarming romance, contemporary aspects, historical charm, and a well-written spiritual thread, I recommend this one with two thumbs up! Definitely a great read!
Have you ever read a book, that makes you want to visit another place?
Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska did that for me.
As I read the novel, written by Tricia Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss, I was suddenly transported to Alaska and the land where Ginny Marshall discovered the key to her heart.
Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska isn't a typical "mind candy" romance. Yes, boy and girl meet again, and rekindle a lost romance, but the layers Goyer and Fleiss add to the text make it stand out.
It was a sweet read, with meaning. It will make you think about things - including how we follow our dreams - and what happens when you seek out and find healing and love.
The wee bit of historical story, woven into the tale, was an added bonus. I also loved how they talked about written letters - and how they can be deeply meaningful for years to come.
Ultimately, this would be a fun, read on a rainy, blustery day book - sitting in front of a fire with hot chocolate (ah, bliss). It's a delightful escape from the world, with a touch of romance, faith and more.
I know one thing - it's painted an amazing picture of Alaska, that someday, I would like to see in person.
On a scale of one to five, I give it a solid three. Once again, Tricia Goyer (along with her writing partner) succeed in creating a novel that speaks volumes.
Yes - I received a review copy for my honest review - which was not influenced in any way. I promise.
Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska is about making choices, forgiving the past and taking that step into the future without knowing what that future holds. Ginny grew up in the foster care system learning how to NOT rely on others and NOT allow others close enough to see her pain at not belonging to anyone or anywhere. Yes, that's hard but Ginny has taken it one step further and RUNS whenever someone tries to get close to her whether it's family, friends or marriage.
What I really liked about this book was the letters. It almost felt like there were 2 completely different stories here (which there was) and I found myself connecting with Ellie w/ her historical drama more so then the contemporary drama of Ginny's life. I'm not really sure why - maybe the adventure of setting out, not knowing the outcome and the stronger faith of the characters in the early 1900's. The situations of both girls (Ellie in the early 1900's and Ginny in the early 2000's) was very different Ellie's outcome was not at all what I expected - maybe that's why I liked it and the fact that it kept me guessing. Yep, that was it!
Disclaimer: I received Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska as part of the Tricia Goyer Fiction Launch Team. I was not required to write a positive review and no money exchanged hands.
Each romance novel in the Summerside Press Love Finds You ™ series draws on the compelling history or unique character of a real location—thus, the names of American towns in the titles. The stories center on romance and are big on setting, ranging from Treasure Island, Florida to Victory Heights, Washington to Sunrise Beach, Hawaii. Summerside is well on its way to its goal of publishing a novel set in each of the fifty states.
Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska, is their latest offering, penned by award-winning author Tricia Goyer and multi-published Ocieanna Fleiss.
LFY in Glacier Bay is a well-crafted love story written with care and attention to detail. The authors obviously delighted in Glacier Bay, which they researched on site, and their affection for this place is imbued in every page. The writing by these two experienced authors is as fine as you’ll find in a Christian romance. As I read the book, I often paused to savor a particularly well-turned phrase (“The life vest captured the pounding of his heartbeat…”). The story is peopled by kind, Christian characters—and a few who aren’t. If you love Christian romances and you’re looking for an easy escape to an intriguing time and place, you’ll find what you’re looking for in Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska.
Once I picked this book up I wasn't putting it back down. Such an awesome book! We are treated to two love stories in one. Ginny Marshall has a promising music career, living the good life, or is she? She is now on threshold of making it big, but she wants to talk to her exfinancé Brett Miller before signing. Why? She was the one who chose to leave him, she just drove away! One thing I found throughout this book was the love of the Lord, no matter how far back we went, He was their Rock. As soon as we meet Brett's Grandmother, we see that she walks with Her Lord. She embraces Ginny with her love, and gives her a might gift....Ellie's and Clay's letters and journals. Oh how I never wanted this to end! Made me want to move to Glacier Bay, what a beautiful area that is described in this story, and the people care! No seat belts, the speed limit is 25mph, no stealing, and so much love. What a warm loving movie this book would make! It was a wonderful read that I recommend!
I received this book from the Author through her Launch Team, and was not required to give a positive review.
Oh how I love a good story! This particular book reminded me of The Notebook, but with a deeper moral compass. It was the letters and going from back-in-time to today, is what reminded me. The stories themselves were so very different, and for me, this was richer in the things I look for in a good book. When I read a good Christian book, it has to have challenged my own morals and beliefs. Did I ask myself what I would do in that situation? Did I feel a tug on my heartstrings or did I shout out loud at the book in moments that were sensitive and intense? Did I smile lovingly when others I read about had good moments to smile about too? Yes, yes and yes!!! So many reasons to love this book and none to complain about. It was THAT good! I also loved the author's personal notes in the back, complete with photos from their journey to Glacier Bay, Alaska. (View the photo slideshow below.) I have, am and always will be a fan of these two ladies, and this book just emphasized why.
This was one of those books that held your interest from the beginning. I would not call it a "romance" novel; I would call it a story of love. Maybe even a story of second chances.
There are two stories in this book. The first, Ginny and Brett who after being engaged two years ago, and going their separate ways, try again. Brett's grandmother does a bit of matchmaking by giving Ginny old love letters to read. Thus the second story in the book. It was a little aggravating at times, switching back and forth between stories. I'm also not a fan of a romance or love story that you have to wait until the last few pages of the book for the first kiss.
All in all, it was a very sweet and easy read that will grab your attention from the very beginning. However, it could have been better, in my opinion, had the authors include an epilogue. Although we did get a happely-ever-after ending, it still left too much to the imagination regarding the future.
I just adore the "Love Finds You In" series, and this book, set in beautiful Glacier Bay, Alaska, is probably one of my favorites. Authors Tricia Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss once again brings their readers a sweet, inspirational and loving story that will charm their readers!
I particularly was impressed with how the authors wove the current day story of Ginny and Brett with the past story of Ellie and Clay. The characters are personable and interesting, and the setting of this story makes me want to head North to Alaska!
This is a well-crafted, well-written tale that showcases the writing talents of both ladies. I hope they have plans for projects together!
I highly recommend this book for those who enjoy inspirational fiction, romantic fiction, and location fiction.
Just $.99 with Amazon. This was a very sweet story following two different love lives. One in the present, the other in the past. I read this book because it had great reviews and because it took place in Alaska. I've always have wanted to go to Alaska and I've read many books about the state. This book would make a great movie due in part to the scenery. The reason it's a 4 and not a 5 is because it was bit too sappy and religious for me, but I still really enjoyed it.
This is not only a well written and researched book, it is a very inspirational read that will change lives. Both authors did a very good job in researching the area including the history. It's very easy to visualize being there.
This was good. It is nice to read a good clean romance every once in a while. Thanks Rebecca for loaning it to me. It does make you want to go to Alaska!
I know! This review is probably WAY too long! But, I LOVED this book! LOVED it! I could sing praises for this book! It just touched me in a way no other book has in a LONG time! I think it's the Grandmother in this book that reminds me of mine, who, Bless her Heart, passed away in 1990, and I miss DEARLY! EXCELLENT BOOK! I would give it MORE stars if I could! I've never read a book in this series of Christian Fiction books called "Love Finds You in . . . (a city, and state) . . . ", before, so this was my first, and let me tell you I WANT TO READ MORE of these! I really enjoyed this book VERY much! I HIGHLY recommend this book! I'm sure I'll recommend others in this series after I read them, too! I LOVED this book! I LOVE these authors and the way they write! The writing is amazing! It's beautiful, the story is beautiful, and the characters really touch your heart! You feel like you are right there, and you've always known them, too. Faith plays a major role in this book, too. In this book, "Love Finds us in Glacier Bay, Alaska", the city was originally known as Strawberry Point when first settled in, because of all the wild strawberries that grow there still to this day. A lot of the history in this book is true, too, which makes it this an even more interesting read! They are still known for their strawberries, and farm a lot of them, and share some of them with the grizzlies, too! The people who lived/live here, 400 at the most in the Summer, gets a LOT of tourists through the summer. The people who live here still deeply depend upon God, as they have to being way out in the wilderness. Being out here, they are exposed to every element there you can imagine, and prayer gets them through. How could you not have a deep relationship with God in the middle of all the beauty/glory he has made for us in Alaska? Or, anywhere, for that matter! As you can tell, this book explains the true history of this city, how it was founded, how it was named then renamed, history of the town and more. This book was simply AMAZING! I love how all of this was explained and worked into the story. It's unlike any other book I've read! The characters in this book are so colorful, caring, interesting, loving and lovable, I fell in love with them all, immediately, especially Brett's Grandmother. I just wanted to hug her! She is wise beyond her years, and knows that Ginny and Brett are in love and belong together, and hints this to Ginny, too, in so many words! I LOVE Grandmother! It reminded me of one of my Grandmothers very much, whom I miss dearly. Who are Brett and Ginny? They were once engaged to be married, but broke it off. Ginny is now living in Hollywood, fast following her dream to becoming a well known as a singer across the country. She decides to go to Gustavus, Alaska, (Strawberry Point) to visit her long time, once fiance', Brett, to talk to confide in him many things before she feels she can go any further with her career. When Ginny first arrives, she finds out Brett is out camping on his own, spending time with nature and his creator. Ginny stays with his Grandmother. It was so cute in that Grandmother was pretty happy Ginny tried but could not find a way to get back home to Los Angeles once she found out it was unknown as to when Brett would be returning home! Well, Grandmother happens to have a 'spell' with her health, as she calls it, some heart troubles, and she is prescribed rest for it. She also needs someone to care for her. Ginny foots this bill, and would not have it any other way. Ginny happens to find a box of old letters, and starts reading them. Grandmother encourages her to read them, and Ginny is really enjoying reading these as she waits for Brett to return from his trip. Ginny cannot stop reading these letters, and as she reads them, she reflects on her own life at the same time. The letters are all through the book, so, yes, we get to read them too, and this story goes back and forth from the first settlers of this area, to now, the current time. Oh! I just want to tell you ALL about this book, but I can't or else there won't be anything left for YOU to read! I LOVED reading these letters just as much as Ginny does! Grandmother knows and has read every one of these letters as well, and might even know some of the people in these letters. It really shows what life is like in this remote area of Alaska, and what this woman in these letters, Ellie, has gone through, as well. The letters are very clear as to what she does and does not want. So why all these letters in the first place? We find out in these letters that Ellie has a fiance who breaks off their engagement. Ellie's own Grandfather sends Ellie out to live in Strawberry Point, Alaska, (Glacier Point, now) to be a Governess to a Widower's children ranging from all ages. This was the last thing that Ellie wanted to do, and couldn't help but to feel she was also sent out there not only as a Governess to the children, but also like a mail-order bride for this Widower, and was not too happy about this situation, however, over time, Ellie thinks she might just be falling in love with this man named Clay, after all. Ellie continuously writes to her Grandfather, and these are what most of the letters are what we read, correspondence back and forth from Ellie and her Grandfather confiding in each other, asking questions, telling her Grandfather things that have happened, and more. It is very clear that Ellie loves her Grandfather very, very much. Other letters are written by other people, too, but I'll leave that for you to find out who when YOU read the book! Here are a few quotes from the book I LOVED! When Brett returns from his trip a little early, not even knowing Ginny is there, he and Ginny go out to eat at Four Corners, where he tells her, "Alaska is like your first kiss. It's not what you thought, more wonderful than you realized, and it fills you with more emotion and longing than you can explain." He chuckled. "And that no fake fur slippers can never express." Later we learn from Grandmother, "I have no fear of meeting my Maker. In fact, I've been looking forward to that for many years." I always hate when older people say that because I find when they say that, they are ready to go, and I LOVE Grandmother in this story so much! Personally, I was upset when I read that, and wanted to ball my eyes out. It really brought back memories from my own Grandmother. I really found myself personally invested in this story very deeply. Later, Grandmother gives Ginny some more advice. "We meet people, live with folks, build friendships our whole lives, and there are those few tenderhearted souls who stand out." Then, one last quote I'm going to write down. Ginny asks Grandmother more about Ellie and Clay, if they do get married, the children, etc. So Grandmother has some more advice for Ginny. Don't you just LOVE Grandmother! "Dear child, don't try to figure out love, just embrace it ... embrace it while you still have the chance." Hmmm? Brett, after all? Or Danny, back in Hollywood? I just LOVED the writing in this book, all that happens, the decisions to be made, and how it turns out! I LOVE Alaska! You'll have to read this book to find out what happens with Ginny and Brett or maybe Danny? Or does Ginny goes back to her singing career? This is a book you do NOT want to miss reading! It is one that will stay with you forever! (You know, some strawberries dipped in chocolate would go wonderful while reading this book! For some reason while reading this book, I had such a craving for chocolate! It 'had' to be the strawberries! LOL!) In the back of the book it tells us about the author's trip to Glacier Bay, Alaska, has some photos from the trip, and information about it. In my opinion, and may I suggest; this is one of those books in which you want the actual physical book, and not the ebook in order to be able to appreciate this book like it should be. Sometimes ebooks do not show the photos or other information like this book does, and I would hate for you to miss what this book offers, so I would definitely suggest purchasing the book and skipping the ebook for this one. I'm all FOR ebooks, but there are just times when the physical book is called for, and this is one of them. This book is going on my list of 'The BEST books of 2013 I've Read!' I look forward to reading MORE of these books co-written by these two authors as well! I absolutely LOVED this book! I am glad I found this series of books, too! Thank you, Litfuse! About this book, and this series of books: These books, "Love Find You In (a City and State)", are a series of books that eventually will cover all 50 states! There are a lot of them written by various authors, and inside this book it shows you two things: a 'map' of the US which has flags all over the place with the name of the city and the state in which a book was written about, and also a long list - three pages full - of all of the books and their authors who have written books in this series of "Love Find You In . . . ". Be prepared! There are still quite a few states that have not had a book written about them 'yet', so get ready for more books to come in this series! I see myself wanting to read ALL of these books, especially the ones written by these two authors! They have co-written several so far! Tricia Goyer is one of my MOST favorite authors, and this is the first book I have read (that she has co-wrote) with Ocieanna Fleiss, whom I enjoyed just as much! No, you cannot tell this book was co-written by two separate authors at all! It reads smoothly, very descriptive and you feel as if you are right there in Alaska. I could relate to how Ginny felt, and I felt like I was right there with her. The only bummer is I did not literally get to 'see' the the scenery, which I can only imagine is breathtaking, and the pages FLY by! (No!) You do NOT want to put this book down, nor do you want it to end! I'm going to miss Glacier Bay, Alaska! I received this book for FREE from the Pubisher, Summerside Press and LitFuse Publicity, in exchange to read and write a review about it. It is NOT required for this review to be either positive or negative, but of my own honest opinion. “Free” means I was provided with ZERO MONIES to read this book nor to write this review, but to enjoy the pure pleasure of reading it. I bought this on a Kindle deal a few years ago, and it was the title that intrigued me into buying it. It sounded like a fabulous place to visit. I started it not long after, but didn’t get too far as it didn’t capture my interest and I was a bit disappointed.
A summer holiday challenge provided the perfect time to pick this book up and try again. I pushed through that same “not capturing me” bit as before, and it wasn’t long before I became interested in the story, and really enjoyed it – especially the historical part of the story.
Favourite Quotes:
Over the top of the ridge he could see the Fairweather mountain range. He needed this. Needed to be reminded of God’s creative order. Needed to realize that if God cared enough to create such beauty in this distant place where few experienced it, maybe He would create something beautiful out of Brett’s life too.
For some reason, he needed to tell her that sometimes the hardest things in life make us strong. And that love—true love—would always be there, even if she chose to run.
“Like the rock, Bell, I break. My body is breaking even now. I will let you down, my dear heart. I have failed you many times, even though you don’t want to admit it. Others are bound to fail you too. There is no hope in a new career, a fiancé, or even in me (especially in me!). You must place all your hope in the One who is forever faithful. The Bridegroom who will never leave you, the Master who will never dismiss you, the Father whose strength will not fail.”
“...remember your solid rock, Jesus. Stand on Him, my sweet Ellie, and no matter what storms come, He will hold you. Amen and amen!”
“Others are bound to fail you…. There is no hope in a new career, a fiancé…. You must place all your hope in the One who is forever faithful, the Bridegroom who will never leave you, the Master who will never dismiss you, the Father whose strength will not fail.”
“The glaciers came down the mountain and wiped everything out. I think it was about three hundred years ago. After the ice receded, things began to grow again and the land could be inhabited. I have Tlingit friends in Hoonah. The stories of when the big glaciers came down have been passed on for generations.” “But the trees, they’re everywhere,” she said again, still not able to believe it. “That’s how life is, don’t you think? If given the chance, new life is born from what’s once been stripped away.”
The best thing we can do for God is to grow closer to Jesus and follow Him day-by-day.
“I suppose sometimes it takes getting lost to enjoy the joy of being found.”
Christ is my solid rock. Everything else can pass away, but He will never leave me. My hope is built on nothing less.
I don’t need the approval of others to make me happy. I’ve got Christ, and He’s enough. Well, at least that’s what I’m trying to learn.
I have only read one other book in the Love Finds You series which was also written by these authors: Love Finds You in Lonesome Prairie Montana. I enjoyed this installment in the series even more than the previous book!
The Alaskan setting, especially the town of Gustavus, is practically a character itself. It's a small town where everybody knows everyone and are all up in each other's business, but with the best of intentions. They support each other, cheer for each other, maybe even gossip a little about each other, but it's definitely an interesting and scenic little town. This gorgeous setting and all of the photos I have seen from the authors' research trip have me dreaming about taking a trip to Alaska some day.
The central characters are carefully crafted. Ginny is a complex character that reminds me of those girls you know in high school; the pretty, talented ones people admire. I couldn't relate to her style with the heels, long flowing locks, and beautiful singing voice. But I could relate to her past hurts that she carries around with her and her longing to have a strong family unit of her own.
Brett is the kind of guy that every girl dreams about; handsome, supportive, and a "man's man". He's who Ginny runs to when she feels like she's losing her sense of self. And his grandmother reminds me of my own grams; wise, frail in body but strong in spirit, and full of stories. I loved Ethel and how she embraced Ginny without hesitation. It made me miss my grams very much.
There is another love story contained within the letters that Ginny reads dating back to when the town was first being settled. While I found this story interesting and the premise behind it meaningful (I am a history buff), I also found myself a bit distracted by all of the details in the letters. However, this is just a personal style preference that doesn't take away from the enjoyment of the unfolding story.
I highly recommend you check out the research behind this book and the authors' pinterest boards. It will give you another perspective and help you visualize the beauty of the setting.
Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska is a touching story of love, healing, and hope that is definitely a must-read!

Tricia Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss in thier new book, “Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska” published by Summerside Press takes us to Glacier Bay, Alaska and into the life of Ginny Marshall.
From the back cover: Love finds you
Sometimes the love we’ve always wanted is the one we’ve always had.
Singer Ginny Marshall is one signature away from a major recording contract—a dream come true for a girl still struggling to bury the memories of the past. Wanting to talk to someone with her best interests in mind, she looks up her former fiancé, Brett Miller in Glacier Bay, Alaska. There, the stunning scenery provides a respite from LA’s pressures, and Ginny finds community among the charming residents.
She also discovers a box of old letters and is swept up in the tale of Clay, an early missionary to Alaska, and Ellie, the woman who traveled there to be his children’s governess. As their story unfolds, Ginny just might discover that healing and love are sometimes found in the most unexpected places.
I have yet to visit Alaska but this book makes me want to remedy that situation soon. Glacier Bay seems like a really nice place to hang out in with the people to meet and the places to see. ”Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska” is written by two authors so we are treated to two stories that dovetail together. And both of them are romances. It just doesn’t get any neater than that. ”Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska” is great fun to read. Ms. Goyer and Fleiss have a great way of telling the story and moving it along at a nice pace. Their characters are wonderful and they give them life and unique voices. All this and Glacier Bay, Alaska also. A really enjoyable read.

In the midst of a cold snap here in Pennsylvania it's easy to imagine how chilly it gets in Alaska but even if you live in a tropical paradise Tricia Goyer and Ocieanna Fleiss will transport you to cold but beautiful Glacier Bay in Love Finds You in Glacier Bay, Alaska. From the minute I opened the book I knew I was going to love it and by the time I flipped the last page this book made its mark and earned a spot in my permanent book collection. This was one of the best contemporary books I've read in a long while and it's certainly my favorite by this writing duo. This wasn't simply a romance but a spiritual journey and coming-of-age tale of not one but two women who lived decades apart. Ginny is trying to find out if her true path in life is as a superstar singer in LA or something else. Ellie's family lost their fortune in 1927 so as a last resort and favor to her grandfather she agrees to become nanny to a widowed missionary's children. Even though they are decades apart both must face their pasts and discover God's plans for their futures. Their stories both are gripping and all of the characters made this one mighty difficult to put down book. Tricia is truly talented in her own right but what these ladies have woven together are simply divine. Every book I've read by this pair I've enjoyed but this one is by far the best. Entertaining, romantic, and captivating are just a handful of words to describe Love Finds You in Glacier, Bay Alaska. I highly recommend this one to all who are fans of the genre or the Love Finds You series.
